Not only is that an affiliate link but McAfee its one of the worst antivirus out there – it take up too many resources from your computer.

      • alabell

McAfee also let through a virus that nearly destroyed our computer earlier this week.  It was awful trying to restore our computer.  We may be looking for better antivirus software very soon.

      • aaabbb

had mcafee because it came with teh computer… it was terrible… had avg it was even worse because it was annoyingly invasive too…. we have microsoft security essentials + malwarebytes anti-malware, like the person above, and that works pretty well. I would suggest getting those (both free).

    • Nmckeown

doesn't work:   Although you've entered a valid promo code NEWCUSTOMER10, your order does not currently meet the code's usage criteria.
      Not good.

      • The code is only good for new users on newegg.  Can you try setting up a new account?

        • Nmckeown

thanks jenny-  i actually did set up a new account= but in any case- i was only doing it b/c it was a money maker.  =)

        • TNtallents5

I was a new account, and it still came up as not meeting “the code's usage criteria.”

    • Dee

The fine print says that the rebate may not exceed the purchase price.

      • Thanks for catching that!  I update the post to show it as free.

    • Mel

You do not make 10.00 after shipping but you do get the product for free after mail in rebate.  I just bought it.

    • Marysc1000

I have to say that free or not, McAffee (like Norton) has gotten pretty computer-invasive.  At the advice of many IT friends I am using Microsoft Security Essentials which is FREE and very highly rated!  I've been very happy with it.

      • Jackie

I agree completely. Had a terrible virus on my computer this weekend .Microsoft got rid of it and recommended free Security Essentials plus free MalwareBytes AntiMalware to run intermittently.

    • Andre

At best this is a break even with lots of hassle. AVG has a great FREE program that is excellent.

    • FenFen

As good of a deal this is, AVG Security is completely free and isn't a memory hog like McAfee is. Setting up AVG along with Spybot Search and Destroy is pretty much all you need.

    • Tyler

Norton, pass on this. AVG used to be good like 5 years ago but people still hang onto because it's free.  Spend a few and get better system performance and security with less “false positives” with Eset Nod32.

    • Leah

Best antivirus I've ever found is Avast! antivirus. The free version is great. It doesn't hound you to upgrade either. Used it for 5 years and nothing has ever gotten past it. I only have had one single false positive and it was fixed quickly.

    • Liz

Sounds like a great deal, but READ the reviews on this porduct before you order. Sometimes free is not always the best item to use, especially for those of us that are not compute experts!

    • anniesmom

Mcafee is awful!!! We have gotten two different virus' on our computer in the last several years.  We now have Norton and it is awesome!!

    • I have a Mac, so….

However, if you are a RoadRunner customer, you can download anti-virus software for FREE. It's from a company called CA. (can't recall what the acronym means).

    • Carrie

      Already gone

    • mel

I just ordered this and it looks as if everything worked just fine!

    • Teresa

Evidently it's not sold out- I just got it.  Mixed feelings because of the reviews, but I doubt any of them are  completely safe.  Will give it a try.

    • Dottie

McAfeee cost me two hundred dollars just to be put on my computer. Everyone be ware of Office Depot's computer techs. My computer only had a virus. They charged two hundred dollars plus the McAfee charge. He ruined my laptop to the extent of now my computers hard drive in not working. There was nothing wrong before the tech got hold to it.

    • Brencoup

will never have McAfee again not that great a product unless you want to spend money on fixing your computer from the viruses it lets in!

    • Nicara24

Not sold out! I just got it!
