I have been on autopilot this week getting everything ready for this weekend’s trip and getting the usual deal posts up. I made it to Publix and Walgreens. I have everything ready for Kroger and Bi-Lo it just didn’t happen.

On a side note: If you emailed this week and have not gotten a response I am getting to it, please forgive me. I am turning off the computer most of the weekend. My husband and I are enjoying our first weekend away in 4 years. Thanks Ma and Aunt Anna!!

Now for our savings for the week:

Publix:
Total Before Sales and Coupons: $137.46
Total Spent: $41.21
Total Saved: $96.25 or 70%

Walgreens:
Total Before Sales and Coupons: $61.96
Total Spent: $7.46 (used Walgreens gift card)
Total Saved: $54.50 or 87.9%
Register Reward Remaining: $10 (my Publix will still take these so this will be used next week)

Weekly Totals:
Total before Sales and Coupons: $199.42
Total Spent out of pocket: $41.21
Total Saved: $158.21 or 79.3%

My Walgreens transaction was the weekly diaper deal minus the coffee mate. I loved every minute of that trip. Three packs of diapers will last a long while (amazing the difference between the needs of one child and the twins we had first).

    Total spent out of pocket – $65.65
    Total saved $64.??

    Kroger total before printed coupons – $46.96
    Total spent out of pocket – $37.86
    Total saved – $37.28 or 52%

    This is only my second month of coupons, so I feel like I’m doing pretty good.

    Quick question for you – if I redeem a WAGs RR at Publix, does Publix get reimbursed that $$$ from the manufacturer since it’s TECHNICALLY a MAN coupon?

    I can answer Beverly’s question, I just bought the same baby food today. (I got the overage)

    It really depends on the cashier.

    I went to 3 Publix today and two of the cashiers scanned/input all my coupons, while the other tried to give me back several of them saying they were “too much”. I asked her why she wouldn’t put them in for the item price (because she and I both knew she could, if she would). She never said why she wouldn’t, and did it after I questioned her.

    Anyway, it’s never certain if you’ll get an overage, or just free.

    To Beverly: I am not as expert in couponing as Jenny, but I do know a thing or two. I *think* that, if you have other items, then that 21 cents overage would go to other items. I would say a good rule of thumb is that if you have a coupon that exceeds the amount of the item, to always have a few other “filler” items to take up the overage. Does that make sense?

    Some stores won’t allow for overage. Those stores would make your coupon for 79 cents instead of $1. But I believe Publix will allow for overage.

    I’ve been couponing and average a 60-70% savings at Publix weekly. I am fortunate to have a very ‘coupon flexible’ Publix. After using many competitor qs in the past, I asked a manager today about Target q, and other ?able qs. He admitted they will take them (Target and drugstore) but at the same time, really don’t consider them valid q’s. I’ve decided to stop using them, there seems to be a point where we’re just taking advantage of the stores and abusing their coupon rules. When I once was so excited about my massive savings, I now feel silly walking in and getting my deals from coupons I know they will not get re-paid on. Anyone else feeling the same way? I know times are tight and more and more people are couponing, so the original 10% stat may not apply anymore.

    I feel that its the stores choice to accept them or not. The more savings they offer, the more people will shop there. They know what they are doing and they set their prices accordingly. If they only accepted regular mfc, whats to stop shoppers from going to bilo or food lion? They don’t want to lose a potential customer. Publix regular prices are high so, if they didn’t offer such coupon savings, I would not shop there. My family is not rich and when I can go to Publix, have a total of $200, and only spend $90 due mostly to legitimate coupon savings, then I’m all for it. Yes, it can be a pain not to mention the rolled eyes and huffing from the cashier or person behind you, but worth it. It doesn’t bother me at all. I just huff back sometimes or say, “If you want to pay me what I’m saving with coupons then I won’t use them. I’m just trying to save my family money, not hold you up”.
