My publix substituted candy for a gallon jug of Publix "drinking" water... talk about a depressing substitute item. :-(

IDK, those of you that got the one can of Chef Boyardee might just be just depressed as I was.

Heheh, better luck next week! ;-)
  • Sad, sad day @ my publix (Lawrenceville, GA)....they have a sign posted @ the register that they will no longer accept coupons except for "traditional supermarkets" & for our area that will only include Kroger & Ingles. This will totally change my shopping! I know many areas have already done this but I use Rite Aid, Babies R Us (diapers & laundry detergent), Walgreens & target coupons. I talked to the manager & he said it was from the top down & he had no control but was passing all the comments on to corporate because so many people had complained. I told him that it would drastically reduce my shopping at publix & gave him many examples of how it would affect my shopping. SAD, SAD day in Lawrenceville, GA!
  • Sue
    Which store in Lawrenceville?
  • Ashley
Yeah, every publix is different... :-( I called a nearby publix in Acworth (not "my" publix, but one I was going to be near) to see if they took Rite Aid and Target coupons. They did, however, she said that they will not accept the "$5 off of $25" Rite Aid coupon or any other "customer loyalty" type Q's anymore. Oh well, I guess I will just stick with my normal store... they still accept all Rite Aid coupons.

They used to accept Food Lion Q's, but cut that off 6 months ago or so. Doesn't surprise me since we don't have a Food Lion any closer than an hour away... not really a "competitor" in my eyes.

Oh well, it was good while it lasted.

So I go into Publix today w/my $1.00 off Q and my bogofree Q on the Herbal Essences and the Manager tells me NO I cant do that ,I was thinking I could use 1 Q on each (1$1.00andaBOGO on 2 products)So amI crazy or what?Publix tonight was the worse so far.Very rude. Some one tell me what is right PLEASE!!??
  • Susan
I used both to buy 2. I do not understand the problem (for the store). I used the $1.00 off coupon and cash to buy 1 Herbal Essence, the BOGO Free coupon for the second Herbal Essence. They will get reimbursed a $1.00 for one product and $2.49 for the second product. What difference does it make to the store, if it is the customers $'s or the manufactor's $'s. Sorry you had a problem.
  • Abby
IF you were buying 3 you should have been able to use both. But if you were only buying 2, you would only be able to use one of the coupons
  • Regan
She had it posted on here that you could use the $1.00 off one and the bogo off of the other, what is the deal Im so confused?
  • Kayla
Yeah, I work at Publix, and if you have a BOGO Coupon, you can only use that one, because that coupon applies to both items. Hope this helps.
  • meg
I did this one this am- Sixes Rd Canton Ga store - only bought 2 Herbal essences - used both $1 and B1/G1, paid $1.79 for both. Cashier didn't say a thing
  • Melissa
Publix store in Antioch, TN had 2 Liter Publix Soda.
  • Bellevue store in Nashville had Kraft BBQ sauce at noon yesterday!
  • Brook
How many penny items are you able to get in one transaction? If you spend $20 shouldn't you be able to get 2?
  • Jenny
It is limit one per household per day, sorry.
  • Laura
Really? I usually only get one, but I have on occasion broken my order up into into 2 or 3 $10.00 transactions to get more than one. They've never said anything...I didn't realize it was one per household.
  • sloan
chocolate covered raisins in Downtown Greenville.
  • Jennifer
That is where I should have gone!!
  • MarySC
The manager told me there was no candy at the Charleston area's distribution center. In Summerville's Dorchester store, they were subbing two kitchen utensils for a penny. Actually pretty nice stuff; they had some heavy duty spatulas and ladles!
  • Andrea
At the Publix on Thornblade Pkwy, you could choose from 5 different types of candy; smarties, candy corn, gummie animals, mints and sour gummies. I grabbed the smarties to put in my Operation Christmas Child boxes.
  • Misty
The penny item that I got at the Brentwood, TN store was 32 oz Gatorade.
  • Marci
Spring Hill, TN also had Gatorade.
  • Bethiepoo
My Publix in Hermitage, TN had some of the candy (after dinner mints or jelly beans) but also offered coffee. I guess they anticipated running out.

Paper towels would have been fabulous.
  • Lacey
The penny item that I got was a reusable shopping bag. Certainly better than candy! :-)
  • Melissa
NE Columbia, SC (hardscrabble road) was subbing a big bag of Ralston cereal - only chocolate puffs and something that looked like captain crunch. We got it anyway for donation to our local food bank - harvest hope. Definitely get those penny items for donation if it's not something your family will use. I would've liked papertowels though or even the sugar - great items that most anyone can use.
  • Kim
My Publix in Peachtree City had their 5 lb bag of sugar as the penny item. As we live in the south and are big sweet tea drinkers, I prefer this over candy.
  • melissa
The Summerville Publix in Oakbrook has Kraft Mac & Cheese. Better than a bag of mints any day!
  • seacoastmom
Yeah! Looks like I'll be running out today after all!!
  • Lori
Lex. Publix had Welch's 64oz grape juice. YEAH!
  • Sharon in SC
The Lexington store now has Lipton tea, Regular or Decaf as of 10pm Sunday. They also have posted in store special B1G1F on the Lipton Reg or Decaf.
  • Jennifer
You know those nasty after dinner mints that come in a bag and are not individually wrapped? That is what is at the Publix in Greenville on Pelham....
  • Boo, I was hoping for candy corn. Maybe I'll go late tomorrow and hope that they've ran out and started subbing. Of course, with my luck they'll start subbing with their coffee.

    Kelly,

The Low Country Food Bank is where you can donate and the Carolina Youth Development Center will take toothbrushes, deodorant, toothpaste, etc. There are other places. Exactly which area of Charleston do you live in?
I've found a family in need in the Charleston area. They have 10 children combined in the household. The dad & his wife have their own and they are taking care of his sisters children who passed away. If you would like to share in helping them out, let me know.
  • Kelly
Thanks for the information on food banks. I have looked into the Low Country Food Bank before but the food items they list on their website seem to be very specific (ie: low sodium canned goods, sugar free items). I am definitely intersted in donating toiletries though. Will the youth development center take any sort of toiletries? I am in the North Charleston area. Thanks for your help!
  • scqponmom
Yes, CYDC will take toiletries. They are located off of Montague.
  • Mel
Thank you for this info! I have so many personal hygiene items I would like to donate.Just didn't know who needed it. Any info. on My Sister's House and their needs?
  • becca
my publix substituted downy for the snuggle price and took the snuggle coupons for it!
  • marie
My Publix had the penny item, Publix Bagged candy. But it was the unwrapped candy (like candy corn, jelly beans, gummy worrms).
  • Kate
At our Publix, the only wrapped candy was Smarties. They will be good for trick or treaters or for prizes at school though.
  • Stephanie
So my Publix (in Birmingham, off Hwy 280) still had Publix coffee as the penny item. When I went to customer service to get a raincheck for the Snuggle (as the shelf was BARE!) I asked about the penny item and the woman said they didn't get any of the candy shipped to the store.
    Stephanie
  • Claire
Stephanie, did you go to lee branch? b/c when i went tonight they were out of snuggle and the penny item was kraft salad dressing. the penny item on overton rd was the candy, and they had plenty of snuggle.
  • Stephanie
    Claire,
I did go the the Publix in Lee Branch. When I went early Sunday morning they didn't have very much coffee left, so it doesn't suprise me that it was a different penny item later in the day (the Kraft dressing would have been nice!) After work today I went to the Publix on Montclair Rd. and their penny item was big bottles of Juicy Juice!! I was thrilled with that! And they had lots of Snuggle, so now I don't have to worry about the raincheck.

I had some good Publix shopping over the last 2 days - spent $56 and saved $73!
  • Lynn
Try to Homewood location. I bought one there yesterday (on Saturday)and the shelf was full. The Vestavia store is generally pretty well stocked, too. HTH!
  • Ginny
The Charleston/Johns Island Publix has subbed a can of Chef Boyardee mini-ravioli.

I was bummed as I was looking forward to free candy to give at Halloween, but no luck! I got it anyway, guessing if I don't use it (we never eat that kind of stuff), then I'll donate it. Another (almost) free item for my donation box! Jenny, you are awesome. I love feeling like I can actually make donations these days...and usually all it costs me is time.
  • Kelly
    Ginny,

I have been looking for a place to donate some of my couponing extras in the Charleston area. Where do you donate?
    Thanks!
  • kelley c.
You could donate to The Seacoast Church Dream Center. I'm sure they would love to be able to help others in the North Charleston area. They are located on North Rhett Drive. More info on seacoast.org
  • Jessica
I live in Mount Pleasant and have donated to the East Cooper Community Outreach. They were very pleasant.

I donate through my church (they take a collection each Sunday for the Interfaith Crisis Ministries Shelter and for a food bank). But see the person who posted a few posts below me for a couple other great ideas. And honestly, I have a box of things that I've yet to donate because I was wondering where else I can go with it.
  • Michelle
Hmmm...8:30am on Sunday morning and they already have a sub? How's that possible? This wasn't listed when I left this morning, so I didn't know...my publix had seasonal paper towels as the penny item. Has anyone ever asked the manager to give you the "real" penny item when there's a sub? I'm new to all of this. Do the stores just pick their own items? I mean, it's not like they've sold out of the candy this early....
  • Dottie Regan
Our Publix (Alpharetta, GA) was a box of Betty Crocker Sweet Potato casserole! I'll be saving that one for Turkey Day. YUM!!
  • Nina
I'll take the paper twoels over the candy anyday...especially if it is not suitable for trick or treaters!
  • Michelle
I just read further down and found out that it is unwrapped candy...I'm glad I got paper towels now, because I was thinking candy for halloween, but I can't use that and won't eat it!
  • marianne
My local publix penny item was a jar of pasta sauce!! What a wonderful substitution...I didn't need any more candy!
