Honestly, I don't think Publix was doing the penny item out of "kindness". Like any company, they are doing it to drive traffic to the store and earn a profit. If the program is no longer doing that, they change it.

However, I do agree that coupon shoppers have to be careful that they are following the policies correctly. Obviously, there has been abuse in addition to an increase in normal coupon use.

I do love shopping at Publix as well as Bi-lo, however, the penny coupon item is majority of the time what bring me to shop at Publix on Sunday or Monday over my Bi-lo. The idea for the penny item coupon is to drive traffic into the stores which it obviously does.

It is sad that others took advantage of publix kindness. I was informed that publix was cutting back on taking compter's coupons. However, the company helped me through difficult times. During that period, I forced myself to shop at publix only using managr's and their coupon. I prepared myself for the changes. In my opinion, even if they don't accept other's coupon, Publix still have the best deals. Love Them

I think they ought to keep the penny item, but maybe make it after a $20 purchase. That would be okay with me, and so would only one day.

My local Publix has stopped taking Target coupons! Now they only take competitor coupons from other grocery stores like Kroger or Food Lion. I've heard that some other Publix stores in my area (Nashville TN) still take Target coupons but I'll call & verify it with the store manager before I drive somewhere else. Just wanted to give you all a heads-up so you don't get burned in the checkout line like I did... but I spent $10 and saved $73 so I'm still pretty happy with today's shopping trip. Have a great holiday everyone!

**DEAL ALERT**
The Publix on Old Trolley in Summerville had a $2.00 coupon on the package for the Sorrento Stringsters Cheese, 24 oz, which are already on sale for $4.99. Paired with the $1 store coupon in the Winter Savings booklet, that makes for 1 1/2 lb. of string cheese for $2!

Also , they took my $15 World Market, my $10 Piggly Wiggly and my $5 Publix coupons in the same transaction–I had almost $350 worth of groceries in my cart, and I paid $107!

I'm in South FL and I got the $5 off $50 in the Sunday paper. Our normal Publix ad comes in Wednesday's paper and a small Publix insert comes in Sunday's paper. I never look at that one, but pulled it out just to check for the coupon and there it was on the back! Thanks a bunch for the heads up!

I agree I like the penny item way better too. AND since I just bought $221 worth of groceries for $90 we are good to go for a while, BUT I did need a Christmas Ham and Pulix has some Smithfield Shank Hams for $.99/lb. I decided to go ahead and buy meat and use my $5 coupon.

I used the #10 off of $50 PW coupon at Publix on Main Road Charleston. Took it no problem but they didn't take the $5 off $50 Publix since my total was only just over $50. Said it had to be $100 to use both. Went to the wrong cashier, most take all you hand over!

This is why I love Publix! I went to the CS desk to ask about the $5/50 since it didn't come in my paper, and they didn't have any left over, but the manager went to search the store for one and he told me to go and shop. A few minutes later he came to find me and gave me his own $5/50 coupon! So nice!! It made me so happy!

I went to Trolley Road Publix (Summerville) this morning. I used the $15/$50 World Market Coupon so they did not also take the $5/50 Publix, but $15 is better than $5, so I'm not complaining! I spent $60--that included a $17 turkey breast for "Christmas dinner" tonight with my parents, a $5 ham for Christmas dinner on Christmas day for just the 3 of us, and $12 Sam Adams WinterFest for tonight's dinner---3 big ticket items that would normally not be part of a grocery run! The rest was just stocking up on sale items and some fruit for this week--Even though I spent $60, I got those 3 big ticket items and spent $60, saved $80, so all in all it was a good trip---would've been even better with a penny item thrown in---not sure if I will want to shop on Thursdays! Sundays usually work for me and an occasional Monday!

I used the $15/$50 World Market Coupon so they did not also take the $5/50 Publix, but $15 is better than $5, so I’m not complaining! I spent $60–that included a $17 turkey breast for “Christmas dinner” tonight with my parents, a $5 ham for Christmas dinner on Christmas day for just the 3 of us, and $12 Sam Adams WinterFest for tonight’s dinner—3 big ticket items that would normally not be part of a grocery run! The rest was just stocking up on sale items and some fruit for this week–Even though I spent $60, I got those 3 big ticket items and spent $60, saved $80, so all in all it was a good trip—would’ve been even better with a penny item thrown in—not sure if I will want to shop on Thursdays! Sundays usually work for me and an occasional Monday!

This is a helpful coupon for those of us whose Publix's do not accept Rite Aid $ off $$ coupons. So I'm excited! :)

The cashiers at my Publix always have told me that the penny item is a pure loss for Publix, the coupon is a 'Publix coupon', they don't get nothing back from that. Also the managers have always statede that if they couldn't find anything to replace the penny item, they would 'discontinue' it for profit reasons.....that really is bad for us couponers who look forward to the item each week and if we don't need it, buy it anyway for churches or a food bank.
