Slim-Fast Ready-to-Drink Recall

Unilever announced today a massive recall of Slim-fast products.

All Slim-Fast ready-to-drink products served in cans, regardless of flavor, best-by dates, lot code or UPC number that are currently in retail distribution centers, on store shelves, in warehouses or in consumer homes are being recalled.

Unilever urges consumers who have purchased the possibly hazardous products to discard them immediately and contact the company at 1-800-896-9479 for a full refund.

I don’t normally post recalls but this is a big one.

Note: This only affects Ready to Drink products, all powder mixes, snacks foods etc. are fine.

There has been no announcement as to what form the "refund" will take, but most likely Unilever will NOT issue checks; they will send you coupons good for Slim-Fast or perhaps any Unilever products instead.

As for the reason they recalled these ready-to-drink products, they determined that some were contaminated with a bacteria that causes nausea, vomiting and diarrhea, but generally nothing much more serious than that.

I just got a check from SlimFast for $15.30! What a nice surprise!

Does anyone know why they are being recalled - in other words, should we be scared that we've had some?

I just called and they said it was due to a potential contamination in all the ready to drink cans. She said the effects would have been diarrhea, vomiting and stomach issues!! I am assuming it has something to do with the milk in it?? Anyway, thank the Lord no one has gotten sick here yet!!

I wonder how much the refund will be? I bought three six-packs a few months ago, on sale, with coupons, and I got a catalina back...so my out-of-pocket was very low. I am sure this will be a moneymaker for me. I am guessing they will refund retail, which is like $5.99 for a six-pack? That will be a nice surprise in my mailbox!

Are any of the store brands included? Not sure if Unilever makes them, but they do taste like the same product.

I just called the number provided as I have a couple of cases that I picked up last week at Sam's Club and have had a few out of. They have a recorded service that asks you to leave your name, address and phone number and the number of cans you are requesting a refund for. Once you leave that information the recording is played back for you to confirm then it tells you that your refund will be processed and sent in 4-6 weeks. Thanks so much for the heads up on this as these are generally my breakfast every day!

I have a huge case size box I think it was 24 or something like that. I did drink a couple, but now I have the rest NO receipt & the box is long gone as well.

I wonder how they will verify for a refund???
I bought it at Sam's Club, I wonder if I can get a copy of my receipt from them??

I got real sick off these cans a couple weeks ago, called Slim Fast and they sent me coupons for free products. Didn't understand that. Talked to Manager at Publix and she will refund me the full product price for the 12 pack.

I just called, and all they asked for to receive the refund is name, address, and number of cans that you are requesting refund for. Couldn't have been easier!

There is probably a code on the can that you can read to them to prove you do own some. I don't expect them to be too difficult with the refunds, but please do share what you find out.
