They do net the value of any coupon used to buy in determining your rewards value, but this is not a coupon is a form of payment. The special promo items do not show up online until they do the processing for the period end (i.e. 12/31 quarter end in this case). So you should see the battery purchases show up then. Since the purchase should push you over the minimum you will also get any small rewards earned during the year not previously issued added to the balance. I used my Staples reward from the backpack promo to buy the Batteries last week. I emailed them and they said that special promotions like this often do not show online, but that they are in fact credited to your account. The CS rep sent me the amount that I should receive, which matched exactly with what I was expecting, and I did get the correct amount as promised when my Rewards check arrived.
