Friday Finals 1/1

Posted on Jan 01 2010 | By Jenny · Comments

I’ve debated where to put this weeks totals.  I did all of the shopping in 2009, but I don’t ever post until Friday.  I’ve decided since I skipped last week to enjoy Christmas that I will put this as that final totals for 2009.  We had a great year of savings, but we also had a good year of balance.

At the start of ‘09 if it wasn’t on sale it wasn’t coming home.  This quickly started to lead to burnout and boredom.  So now we do splurge a little but still have the goal of coming in at budget and saving at least 50% for the week.  It’s nice to have a weekly splurge or two, it almost makes us savor whatever it was a little more.

Publix
Total Before sales and coupons: $145.77
Total Spent: $42.10
Total Saved: $103.67

Kroger
Total Before sales and coupons: $101.30
Total Spent: $48.58
Total Saved: $52.72

I used up the final coupons in my P&G rebate booklet and did quite well with the deals and eCoupons.  I also had a few “free” product coupons from a recent Kroger “My Coupons” mailer.  I did learn that shopping on New Years Eve at 6 pm is not a quiet and calm time.

Weekly Totals
Before Sales and Coupons: $247.07
Total Spent: $90.68
Total Saved: $156.39 or 63.3%

Year End Totals
Before Sales: $6991.06
Spent: $2281.22 ($43.86 weekly average)
Saved: $4709.84 or 67.3%

I almost forgot…  My week one Swagbucks report.
25 SB from searching and codes
I went ahead used your advice and loaded the toolbar onto my laptop and desktop computers at home.  That was a big help catching the daily special codes and using the search feature whenever I needed to go somewhere.  If you have no idea what I’m talk about go here.
(If you earn less a day, keep in mind that I live on a computer!)

Where do you go to sign up for Kroger “My Coupons” mailer?

I have just started with swagbucks and have had problems with the "speed" of searching with the toolbar. It's just fine from the website, but the toolbar either moves incredibly slowly or freezes up. I don't know if that's just me or what.

Somehow my link to Friday Finals is not appearing, so I'll post here. My savings this past week were 84% at Bi-Lo! This includes 15 FREE pizzas! I am so excited about saving this year!

    Jenny,
I'm planning to use my savings from couponing to pay off a debt like you did. I'm getting a little stuck with the details of how to do this. Did you have a set amount each week to spend? If so, how did you take advantage of "stockpile" items and still stay within budget?

    Thanks!!!!

Somehow I only managed to shop at CVS and Rite Aid this week. I'm a newbie to Rite Aid. I'm really looking forward to the end of next year when I can see my year end totals, I'm only been seriously couponing since june/july and I've only been keeping track since november.

Rite Aid: I bought gillette razors, pantene, soy joy, kotex, organix

    total value: $66.28
    total oop: $16.36
    total saved: $49.92 or %75

I'll be getting back a $14 scr for this week and also I'll be sending in an mir for the organix shampoo ($6.99), so my savings are technically more than 100%!

CVS: I bought pantene, thermacare, nature's bounty, olay regererist, gillette razors, contact solution, highlighters, christmas clearance - including a jewerly box for my mom that was originally $29.99

    total value: $303.90
    total oop: $3.79
    total saved: $300.11 or 98.75%

I ended up with $10 ECBs fewer then I started with but I'll be sending in a $15 rebate for the olay and so will my fiance, we had a great week.

Oh, and I almost forgot about Kroger. I returned some hot dogs that were bad (I only bought them because I had a free coupon) and got $4.91 back.

    Weekly totals:

    total value: $370.18
    total spent: $15.24
total after scr and mirs: -$35.75! (not including the price of 3 stamps)
total savings: $405.93 or more than 100%!

I've done pretty well on Swagbucks this week as well (I signed up on Sunday). I'm up to 23 points! Thanks for the info, I had never heard of them before.
  • Thanks for this thread. It's amazing to look back at '09 and remember all of the great deals!!!

Man, I'm sorry but I just checked out your site too, and now I feel sick to my stomach. I hate to say this, but my God that just looks like so much greed. Who needs at least over 20 Winter Savings Booklets to get 20 little stuffed animals, etc etc? I just don't understand. But, I certainly do understand now why Publix has to hide the Winter Savings Booklets behind the counter.

I checked out the pics on your blog. Amazing! How do you get so many coupons? Do you buy all those newspapers or do you buy coupons?

    Jenny (and all),

What does your yearly total include? Is it just grocery/household items, or do you also include dining out and other expenses (i.e., gifts for children's birthday parties, other Walmart-type purchases, etc)? I feed a family of 5 on $550 per month and have been couponing for over a year now. I thought I was doing great...until I saw that your monthly average is only $140!!!!! For me, this budget includes EVERYTHING (food, diapers, toiletries, eating out, etc) except for gas for our cars.

    Thanks,
    Katie

Hi katie! I think $550 for a family of five is pretty good! My monthly budget for a family of four (one in diapers) is $600 (same as you, everything but gasoline and monthly bills). Thanks to Jenny's site, I often come in under that.

I figured it out a few weeks ago and I "earned" over $50 in Amazon gift cards. It really helped out at Christmas time.
  • Val
Delores, can you help me out? I cant figure out where to put the bonus codes on the search & win sites-
how do you earn most of your swag bucks?
thanks Val ps my email is rowval@hotmail.com
  • I'm really excited about keeping track of my spending/savings this year. I started reading your blog about 2 months ago and it has inspired me to coupon, and i even started a blog(its a little blog-no followers yet but I will get there!). Blogging seems to get me even more excited about deals and helps keep track of spending for me. With my new budget in place I should (hopefully) be debt free by 2011!!! I love SouthernSavers! Thanks for everything!

Do you have a spreadsheet with how to keep up with receipts, that you can share? Thanks
