Volunteer For a Day, Get a Free Day At Disney

Disney has set up a way for you to earn a free day to select Disneyland or Disney World Parks in 2010.  If you volunteer through the HandsOn Network, the largest volunteer group in the nation, and work for a day, you will be rewarded with a free day at Disney!  It is only one ticket per person and the tickets are limited, so put it on your calendar soon!  Go here to get more information.

Each member of your family over the age of 6 can earn a free ticket up to 8 tickets per family.  Make it a family project and then enjoy a special family trip!  Any up for a road trip?

      Did this on MLK day with my family, we picked up trash by a road. It was a great experience and already got our tickets!!!! I would definitely suggest anyone going out and doing it. We only had to give a few hours to get a very expensive ticket!!!

      Though this is a wonderful opportunity to get people to volunteer, it is sad that Disney had to “bribe” people with a free day at Disney to get people to do something they should be doing without any incentives…

        I think I would have agreed w/ you in my younger days BUT as a long time volunteer (over 40 years) I have found that once you bring in a volunteer even for a few hours you often have them “hooked” on your agency or program and they tend to keep coming back.

      I agree with Aymie (though we signed up, we volunteer all the time!). I have also discovered that you are not required to “give a day” . . . just a few hours. I think disney should have required at least at total of 8 cumulative hours of volunteering to get a ticket.

      I agree with you Susannah! I thought it would have been a cumulative of at least 8 hours. I already did my shift and got my voucher.

      I’m at a non-profit agency who is partaking in this project, and disney it making it quite difficult to manage accounts :( I want to sign my family up to volunteer as well but it seems like i have spent all day on this website. anyone else having difficulties?

      Lots of opportunities were all ready filled in my area (Anderson/greenville, SC), but wew are signed up to do ours next week :o) Thanks Disney! We also volunteer for other things in our community, not just this.

      Hubby and I are signed up for the morning of Feb. 14th. Since we live in Orlando this is such a fabulous and convenient thing for us!

      we live in nC does anybody know how it works if you’re buying a weeks worth at a time? is my “free’ day the first one that costs a fortune of the 7th day which is only about 8 dollars?

        i am a member of a disney discussion board, and from what I have read, you can upgrade your “free” ticket to however many days you want, plus you can upgrade to parkhopper, etc if desired. You will get a credit of the price of the 1 day ticket (around $80 I believe) towards your upgrade.

      What I’m upset about is that it’s only for kids 6 and over? There are many worthwhile places in my area to volunteer that my 5 year old twins can volunteer at, why the age limit?

      We already participated and received our vouchers for tickets. Be aware that the fine print says 1,000,000 TICKETS will be issued which makes me think that the voucher is worth nothing unless you are one of the first million to redeem it at the park for an actual ticket. I wish Disney was more clear about that. They also say that the terms are subject to change at any time. My advice is to use the vouchers as soon as you can after you get them and not wait too long or you might not get to use them!!

      Also, if there doesn’t seem to be much in your area keep looking outside you area – we found a United Way project in another city that was creating handmade cards for sick kids and the elderly and we were able to make the cards at home and mail them in! Didn’t even have to leave the house. There is no rule that says you have to do it in your local community.

        In what area did you find the United Way Card program? I make homemade cards for a living and have a large order that the lady canceled but I already made the cards. Would like them to go to good use. Thanks Ginger

      My husband and I volunteered this week, just waiting for our vouchers! We are supprising our daughter with a trip for her 6th birthday!

      We are volunteering next weekend. My son almost 5 is volunteering with us. We will have to purchase his ticket, but I wanted him to see the value in volunteering. I think it is a great lesson for our children or the rewards of volunteering so tangable some not.

      My family and some of our friends did this project a couple of weeks ago and we received our vouchers for tickets this past weekend. We made blankets for hospitalized children and mailed them to Jacksonville, FL. It was a great family project!

      We would love to do this!! My children have volunteered since they were very little. I took my 2yo when she was 2 months old to volunteer and every chance we get, we help out our community and our world. I don’t know why people feel they need to “bribe” people to be responsible citizens.

      I signed up for “The Measles Initiative” thru the Red Cross on January 2nd. It was the only opportunity for younger kids in the Charleston, SC area. I went to the mandatory volunteer orientation (2 hours) to understand the project and when I went to sign-up for an actual time to do our project it said the opportunity had passed!!!! I haven’t been able to resolve the technical issue of signing up, Red Cross sent me to Disney, Disney referred me to the “Hands On” organization and they haven’t returned my calls. We are still going to do our project and hope that it works out for us :@) I may also look outside my area for ideas as well, thanks for that idea!!

      At the very least, we’ll spread the word about the work the Red Cross does globally to help people. Tickets would be nice though… We’ve been saving for Disney for 18 months!

        Wow seacoastmom,18 mos?! We started saving for Disney in January. The kids are so excited. If they see a penny on the ground, they pick it up & put it in the jar. It’s their way of showing us that they want to contribute also. Have you come across any good deals?

          My mom had a time-share so we paid the trade & yearly dues for that so we have a really nice place to stay. A little every month to pay for tickets. 2 days for DIsney, Sea World & Universal. Plus I want to be able to go out to eat at Disney and at least 2 other times & not worry about cost. We’ll be coming home with no credit card debt :@) :@) It’s been 14 mos with 3 1/2 more to go. (so a “wee fudge” on the timeline!)

          This is our 1st really big “destination” vacation with our girls 6 & 9. We’ve been putting every extra coin in a vacation bowl & it’s added up to $150 in about 9 mos. That $ is what the girls get to spend on thier own for keepsakes. (Ok, it’s mostly my change…) but they have put in some earned & gift $.

          I am really liking the come home with no credit card debt idea.

            We were about to score a condo for 7 days for $301 & that is with taxes. No timeshare gimmick or anything like that. It’s a 3 bedroom & has a full kitchen. I need the full kitchen b/c I get sick of eating out every night plus when we come in some days I may throw together a quick lunch to save on $$$. I was able to get the Universal Tickets for $94 (the 7 day/2 park deal) & now we have the free Disney ticket so we plan to go there also but I will continue to shop around for another 1 day ticket at Disney, maybe. My hubby is thrilled to be going to Sea World since we’ve never been. I don’t want to overplan the trip b/c sometimes that takes all the fun out, being on the go the entire time. We plan to enjoy pool nights & the resort offers crafts & things during the day as well as movie nights so I hope everything works out. I hope you guys have a great trip. Keep us posted on how it goes.

            Visit the Disney area Wal-Mart for nice inexpensive souvenirs. The in-park prices are quite expensive and the Wal-Mart had shirt, keyrings, etc.

              Thanks! I’ll take my girls there so they get more value for thier $$ for some of thier souvieneires (spell-check please). My younger daughter is so “thrifty” that she’s already asked if she can keep any $ she doesn’t spend….Ha! her $$ will be spent on stuffies, I can just see the car now, filled on the ride home with Disney stuffed animals……………

      My family & I completed our volunteer service back on MLK day when the kids were out of school. My son learned alot from the experience & I fell deeper in love with my husband that day. We got to work with senior citizens. I loved it & it definitely brought the family closer together.

      My hubby and I gave blood on the 2nd and got our tickets a few days later. Then my daughter (6 yrs old) made a blanket for the children hospital and we got her ticket too! I can’t wait!!!!
