Hi! I went to CVS today and had the B1G1 coupon for Stayfree, as well as the $1 off for Stayfree. The cashier took the $1 off the free Stayfree, and left the one I was paying for as full price. So instead of me $2.89 and getting the second one free, I paid full price ($3.89) and got the second one free. Which essentially wasted the $1 off coupon! I politely questioned the mgr and she said that when I have a B1G1 coupon, they have to take the additional coupon off the lowest price item, which is the free one, and then I have to pay full price for the item I am paying for. This doesn't make sense to me. I thought Stayfree is reimbursing them for the free one at full price since I used the coupon, and then Stayfree would reimburse them the $1 for that coupon. can anyone explain to me why that didn't work, or what the policy is? When I add jenni's deal above, even though it was four packs of Stayfree, it still looks like they took the $1 coupons off the one she was paying for. can you guys explain? Thanks!

I have noticed a trend with comments on SS where they have gotten very snarky and downright rude and at even hurtful. I applaud your help and insight into what can be a hot button topic. I will admit there are times I feel almost scared to voice my opinion on here lately because I'm waiting to have my head chopped off by some posters. I love Jenny’s help and SS as the generous resource it is. I wish others would just breath deeply and think before they type. I think 99% of the people here are willing to help and I'm always glad to see that. It makes life much easier to know there is a community where others are willing to help people in the same financial boat they are in to stay afloat.

Crystal, I know this thread didn't go quite so nicely but I think the comment that you made back a few days was what TCP97 was talking about. You said, "Yeah, there is 1 card per HOUSEHOLD, not per person. So, if you got 2 then you ARE cheating. I'm all about getting a good deal, but not at the expense of honesty/integrity." I'm saying this very nicely and I’m not trying to be hurtful but may be you don't realize that putting words in all caps is considered shouting. Also, saying that someone is being dishonest and has no integrity is not very nice either. I saw several posts back that someone slammed you as well and I felt they were out of line for jumping all over you. That wasn’t right of them and I was sorry to see it happen to you.

Please know Crystal, that you are not the main person I am writing about and it was just in reading this thread that I finally felt compelled to put in my two cents. I have been holding this back for a long time. There are random comments from more and more that just feel out of line and I don’t think any are from bad people. I think we all just need to re-read what we post before we put it down for others to read. I know that if we were in a room, it would be much easier to convey our thoughts and to have a discussion that didn’t get misunderstood so quickly. Unfortunately words can be taken different ways when people read them and the internet is all about what we type without any of the helpful inflections of our voices which soften what otherwise might sound harsh.

Please, realize that I'm actually extremely nervous to write what I feel because I think someone is going to trash me for saying it. I'm not trying to be on a high horse or a soap box but I have been feeling this way for a couple of months now. I've even written to Jenny about it as well in hopes that we can just help our fellow couponers by trying to share info a gentle manner and discuss things without innuendos or name calling.

If I receive any angry negative responses to this, I can honestly say I will stop reading the comments and only concentrate on all the wonderful help Jenny has so generously given to me over the last five months since I started couponing. I always strive to be helpful but I will sadly feel compelled to stop trying to help others because of the bitterness of some. I have way too many sad things happening outside of this computer to be caught up in silliness that only drains me more. Thank you so much to those who read such a long post. I apologize for going on and on. I just hope I said something that was helpful to some and not hurtful to anyone. God Bless you all and may you all live peacefully and find deals that make you happy!

To chime in here. I'm sorry to say but any copied or duplicated coupon from an internet secure printable (coupons.com, smartsource, redplum, bricks etc.) is not reimbursed by the clearinghouse if it is a copy. Head over here for a little more info:
http://www.southernsavers.com/2010/01/spotting-...

These are detected by computers automatically and kicked out. Any use of a coupon against what is specified is considered fraud and is prosecuted by manufacturers and coupon distributing companies.

As far as policy is concerned, Walgreens has informed me that they have none but general guidelines. She also told me that they have left everything for the stores to decide how they will accept Qs. I asked them if it was allowed to pick and choose and when to accept any Qs under consumer protection. She said that Consumer protection "regulations" issue general guidelines and it is up to the retailers how they intrepret those. It is also worth noting that Store policies can not trample on consumer rights to conduct a fair business transaction. That is why you will note that retailers tailor their policies around a general consumer protection guideline structure and it is hard for them to change any policies because Qs are there for transactions-Period.

In my opinion, if you have time, energy and resources, you can legally challenge what happened to you. One argument might be that manuf. Q you presented does not state "not valid with any other offer." (?) If they do not state so, then BOGO should be accepted with store sales in general (unless the retailer has a better legal argument to make). Stores sales is one offer and manuf is extending another. Also, bluntly refusing a Q to one "class' of consumers, and accepting from another could be construed as a discrimination-most serious violation a public entity can engage in. In addition, stores must not be picking and choosing when and from whom to accept Qs. In your case, they were accepting at one time and not at another; then they must have some reasonable cause. Though, I must admit I do not know exact consumer protection law text at the moment that will cover all this. (Disclaimer:- Not a legal advice, nor am I a legal counselor-nor am I encouraging or discouraging any action disposable at your free will)

ok, so it sounds like your ECB went thru for tax amount as well and as it appears cashier did not like that. Most ECBs do not scan for taxes but some do. If it goes thru, then that is what it is. The cashier is probably obe of those close-minded ones who cant stand smart shoppers doing smart shopping. Such cashiers feel repulsed and try to make sure that the shopper does notget away with anything that she could control. next time, raise your objection. If ECBs go thru, its fine. However, know that ECBs can not be used for taxes as they wouldn't go thru the register even if cashier tried to puch it thru.

Thanks everyone. I should have asked about a raincheck. I just didn't think it would include the ECBs. If I get out tomorrow, I'll stop back by and ask...

That's it exactly. ECB's can't be used for tax.

Get a raincheck! The rainchecks never expire and they will still print the ECB's when you purchase them later.

This is incorrect to do so. If coupons and/or ECBs go through then this is what it is. CVS register is sophisticated enough and programmed in such a way that it detects ECBs. From my experience, some ECBs go thru for taxes and some do not. Someone on these boards in previous CVs week forum explained that in detail. ECBs that are generated manually would reduce the tax amount because those ECBs are considered store own discount. Whereas, ECBs that scan as "CVS manuf. Q." are those that were generated from normal shopping and would not go thru normally for taxes. In that case, the subtotal would be deducted.

In your case, it seems that ECB went thru even for taxes which was fine. If it went thru for the total balance, its great. The cashier should not be doing what he/she did. Or, I am thinking the way your balance is coming up, is that after scanning the $2ECB, your balance might have been negative -0.19c, not +19 cents. So, the end balance cant be neg., the cashier should have adjusted the ECB to 1.81 instead making you pay. You would have lost 19 cents from ECB.
