Borders: Closing Clearance Sale 75% Off!

Borders has just announced their closing of over 200 store locations by April 2011.  This is a short time to close so many stores so look for great deals to start quickly.  Some folks are already reporting that stores are at 75% off select items!

    Interesting enough, there is NO Borders listed in South Carolina!!!! What a bummer!

      Borders bookstores also include Waldenbooks, which has 2 stores in SC (Charleston and Sumter). Thankfully, neither is closing. I can't imagine that ANY bargain should be worth our rejoicing over a store closing and its employees losing their jobs – especially in this tight economy!

        Thank you for this. I've heard lots of buzz in the last week from bargain hunters who are excited to try to find great deals at Borders. My husband works at Borders, and we have about a month left until we'll be totally unable to pay our bills. Glad some can afford cheap books, but there's no point in crowing about the bargains all over the internet when this means we'll have a hard time affording food. Thank you for having a heart. (And please note, I don't find this blog post offensive; I don't mind people informing others about the sales, but I can't stand it when people are rejoicing over their local store closing because it means they'll get a deal.)

    Should I be sad or happy that the Borders closest to me isn't closing? I really wish they had announced this about a month earlier, so I could have hit two that were closing while visiting family!

    I'm very sad, I am going to miss the Clearwater, FL location. Borders is my favorite book store.

    I just called the Kennesaw, GA store and they are 20% off. Does anyone else know the discounts in the Atlanta area?

    Only one closing in this state and nowhere near me. I hate to see a bookstore chain in trouble but I admit it's a little hard affording new books and I would mostly just browse.

    Although the few times one of my kids or myself went in to specifically get something, they usually did not have it and we bought it at Barnes and Noble.

    i am so sad! we spend a lot of time and money in the john's Creek Bookstore. me and my son went yesterday magazines were 40 percent off, books and candy was 20 percent off and he got his sister a poster for 30 percent off.

    I hate to see any business in trouble, but their return policy has become so ridiculous, I am not surprised by this. When you don't care about customer service, it's not a sign that things are going well…

      I agree with you! Not just the return policy though. They were seeling a book I wanted online for $14.00 and it was $28 in the store. I tried to get them to atlest come down to $19 in the store. I emailed the company after they refused to do so and they told me they couldn't do that because they had to pay for the “decorating of the stores”. Go figure!! Wish I had saved the email to share!

    We went Saturday and the Borders in Suwanee off McGinnis Ferry is mostly still just 20% off, though all calendars are $1 and all periodicals were 40% off.

    I don't like to see anyone losing their job, but Borders' policies are not customer-friendly. They don't bend AT ALL and there's there's any doubt, the customer doesn't get the benefit. I live near the one on Cobb Pkwy in Atlanta, and it's right down the street from a Barnes & Noble…which is the difference between night and day.

    I had a store close by a few months ago. not everything go on clearance they return a lot to publishers also. For example magazine, cds and video didn't. new book also didn't. Another store near me in Atlanta is only at 30 percent off and not much left.

    The store in Charlotte, NC closed several weeks ago. I stocked up on kids' items to keep for the many birthday parties my children get invited too when those items went to 60% and then 75% off. Great deals on some really high quality games, puzzles and books. I am sad to see Borders closing so many stores though. :-(

      Which one? The one at Northlake? I thought we were ok because there wasn't any NC stores on the list but then just read your post. I haven't been over to Northlake in about a month so I could have missed that. I'm so sad if it did. I really don't want it to close. :(

    So glad to see the Tallahassee Borders is NOT on the closing list. I love a bargain, but like others have already said – I don't want it to be at the expense of others losing their jobs.

    I love Borders – and have found really good deals there (after membership discount and coupons).

    The Borders in Austell is only offering 20-40% off. I did get some great deals on board books for my toddler, but I felt the deals were just “okay” for books for my 2nd grade classroom. They will offer deeper discounts in the next week or two I was told by an associate. Hopefully, it won't be too picked over by then!
