It’s really hard to believe that there is one more week left to September.  This has been a fast month, but for my family that has been a good thing.  I declared September “get out of a rut” month in our house and as my kids favorite foods were used up I didn’t buy anymore and made them eat some of the many other options that we have had sitting around for months.

Three weeks in, and my 3 year old still asks for Pop Tarts every morning for breakfast only to have her two older sisters remind her that we haven’t had any in weeks.  We have started to make a dent on cereal and frozen pancakes that were collecting dust though!

I got to the store this week as promised.  Hit both Publix and Kroger and feel like they were successful trips.  If you are new around here there is one thing to learn about me.  Successful doesn’t mean it was all free, successful grocery trips means that I got everything that my family will eat that was on sale and saved at least 50% doing it.  We eat a lot of produce and meat in our house (especially with my husband being on a sugar and starch free diet) and those are not going to be free.

Publix:
Total before sales and coupons: $95.80
Total Spent: $41.31
Total Saved: $54.49 or 57%

This was milk, grapes, plums, carrots, potatoes, Boston butt roast, and then a number of the top B1G1 deals with coupons.

Kroger:
Total before sales and coupons: $99.82
Total Spent: $34.72
Total Saved: $65.10 or 65%

I grabbed more produce and milk and then stuck with most of the top mega event items.

Weekly Total
Total Before sales and coupons: $195.62
Total Spent: $76.03
Total Saved:  119.59 or 61%

We have a weekly budget of $50 per week for all food, household and personal needs.  While this week appears over I didn’t shop last week so we actually still have $23.97 in our envelope for food.  I am saving this and some extra from past weeks to use on a big farmers market run that I hope to do in the next week!
