This week we have a regional giveaway, but it’s a fun excuse to get away for the weekend.  Southern Living is hosting an event where you can visit acclaimed editors and experts for live food demos and learn some new holiday entertaining and fall decorating tips.  If you live in the Charleston area or you can get away for a little weekend vacation, you should consider this fall-filled event.

The Southern Living Taste of Charleston will be held October 8th and 9th at Boone Hall Plantation in Mt. Pleasant, SC. The two-day festival, open daily from 10:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., will showcase Southern Living editors and experts demonstrating the season’s best recipes, holiday entertaining ideas, and fall decorating tips guaranteed to wow your guests. Visitors will enjoy Low Country cuisine from 40 of Charleston’s top restaurants, live music, dance lessons, interactive games and more.

If you want to go ahead and order tickets, visit the Southern Living Taste of Charleston website. Unless you feel like going to the same festival two days in a row, there is no need to purchase a ticket for both days. The lineup is exactly the same for Saturday and Sunday. Tickets are $15 in advance and $20 at the gate and food and beverage tickets can be purchased inside the gate. Proceeds for this event will go to support local charities.

On a personal note, I’m sad that I can’t go so anyone that can go needs to look up my sweet friend Christy who is one of the presenters and give her a hug from me.

You’ll find recipes for southern style cooking, travel info , all kinds of art including info on the artist, sometimes lists of events going on in southern states and lists of note worthy restaurants that may be of interest . The magazine has all the info that anyone that didn’t know any thing about the south would definitely be appealing. My favorite southern cuisine would be some good fall off the bone barbecue ribs !

I’ve subscribed to Southern Living since I graduated from college and began to cook and take care of my family. I love the recipes the most!     Living in Charleston has been amazing, food wise. Everywhere you go, the mac n’ cheese is AMAZING! Especially the mac n’ cheese with gouda and country ham at Poogan’s Porch. The biscuits there are sooooo good too!! Another favorite is probably fried green tomatoes and you can’t forget the ultimate coconut cake from Peninsula Grill! YUM!!     Love Southern Living, for the food, decorating, and especially the Grumpy Gardener!  But I not only love the magazine, but the southern living life! And now it means so much more to me.  I am currently undergoing chemotherapy for colon cancer, my husband died last November of cancer and I was hit very hard by the April tornadoes and Hurricane Irene. The hurricane killed my rooster, Barry, (named after the president) a tree fell on him.     Boone Hall Plantation is in my backyard.  I love to throw a net off the dock there, and bring home fresh shrimp.  Toss it in a fresh basil pesto cream sauce, and serve over angel hair pasta, with a crusty loaf of bread..  Oh, did I mention the pinot grigio?

    After spending 9 months in Moncks Corner working there are three things I greatly miss from the area. First is the wonderful people there friendly and helpful. Second is the the surroundings giant live oaks, blue bottle trees and spanish moss. Third is a little ole place just off the beaten path in Summerville SC named Oscars that has hands down the best shrimp and grits to be had in the entire state!

    Southern Living is a life saver. When I was getting to know my seemingly-rigid future mother-in-law, we were sitting in her kitchen listening to crickets until I spotted a Southern Living magazine.     My favorite Low Country cuisine would have to be Oysers!  To be specific, a Low Country oyster roast!  You have a bucket of your fresh raw oysters thrown on a  piece of tin suspended over with a pit of wood coals.  Throw a dripping wet burlap sac over the oysters, wait till they open, scoop them onto your picnic table and enjoy with saltines, tabasco sauce and coctail sauce. YUM!  Makes me miss Beaufort!

    My favorite thing about Southern Living magazine is that I can get inspiration for my home decorations from special occasions to everyday life. I have tried some food recipes and they have turned out delicious. Several years ago I read article on raspberry bushes that grow well in South and got those for my garden, and have enjoyed fresh raspberries since through summer.
    I have not been to Charleston, but always wanted to go. This would be a wonderful getaway trip for me and my daughter if we win. Please select me!

    My first true “southerner” dish was a Creole Cajun Gumbo and I was shown how to make the “roux” from scratch. I fell in love!!! This sounds like such a fun weekend, I would totally take my mom for the day. She lived in Charleston as a child and hasn’t been back in decades!!!

    I moved from Savannah, GA to Charleston recently and love many of the foods that are popular in the lowcountry. My favorite has always been a low country boil- that’s how I said it in Savannah but now that I live in Charleston many people refer to it as frogmore stew…love it no matter how ya say it! I have been a longtime subscriber to Southern Living which always has the best recipes but what I love the most is the travel section especially when it has something local- several times it has let me know about things in my area that I was not aware of (and gave the pricing so I knew if I could afford it). I just took a crabbing excursion in my area that I had clipped out of a Southern Living article.

    Hi!  I’m new to the south.  I moved to Georgia from northern California.  When I first visited Charleston, I realized I was seeing places that I taught about to my US history high school students!   I love low-country cuisine. I had shrimp and grits and She-Crab soup for the first time in Charleston. I couldn’t get enough of either.

    Southern Living is the best magazine ever & I started reading it with my Grandmother many years ago.  I the time we spent together but especially all of the wonderful recipes we made each month from the magazine.  She has been gone many years but I am fortunate to still have my Mom at age 76 who 4 years ago survived the fire that took away my Grandmother’s farm house & Dad, but she still carries on our Southern Heritage with cornbread, beans, fried cabbage & too many deserts to name.  It would mean so much to her if we could attend this year.

    The “jolly” would be missing from my holiday meals without Southern Living recipes and table scapes. And, Charleston is the perfect city to begin holiday family traditions. Crab cakes, sweet iced tea, the sweet smell of magnolias and the cool mist from an ocean spray along the battery.

    Love all sea food! Shrimp and grits, though I initially was not a fan of grits, the blvd diner won me over on that one…she crab soup and red velvet cake! I am enjoying discovering more southern cuisine favorites.

    As a recent Charleston transplant (due to the Air Force),  I am enjoying trying all the foods native to the lowcountry!!!   I’d have to say so far…. Shrimp and Grits! My husband and I are looking forward to attending this festival, and would love to be able to go for free! The tickets would be GREATLY appreciated.. Thanks!
