There’s supposed to be a Catalina deal on the Nature Valley granolas at Walgreens, so it’s probably working at Kroger too. With double coupons, fuel points and slightly better customer service, I’m going to try it at Kroger this week.

Not to me…K is a dirty, unorganized store with uncaring employees here in Atl area. Never go in there unless for free items.
Publix is number 1 in customer serv as well as cleanliness and attentive,helpful staff.

To each there own, I will agree, but, was this an experience in one store that soured you on all of them? I am not a big fan of Kroger, but, I will go in there when they do have good deals, not just for the free ones. you might have various grocery stores to choose from where the only store otheres have is a Kroger, so, that comment might be construed as a little harsh to the new folks or theose that only have a Kroger

I agree w/ 3gakids, it is not fair to say all Kroger are bad. In fact, in my area, Kroger is the best as far as Customer Service! I’m sorry your experience is poor. I have to wonder why you read this thread if you dislik Kroger so much?? I’d pay a little more to go to a diff store if I was treated as poorly as you convey!

You get more coupons depending on how much money you spend there each month. My town has very little competition (although the rumor is growing that Publix is coming soon!) and I spend most of my money there so I get coupons in the mail almost every week.

wow. i just price checked a list of 21 items and only found 2 things cheaper at walmart. there’s no reason to shop elsewhere (at least in my area) when we only have 2 options of real grocery stores.

I found I had a catalina coupon expiring yesterday, wasn’t sure if walmart took those or not since they say manufacturer coupon. The cashier said that’s a kroger store Q that can only be used at kroger. So I said take that item off and I’ll grab it next door at kroger.
She said I’m SURE we have a much better price, you might as well buy it here. I laughed and said right, you are 20 cents less on price, but you refuse my $2.00 coupon…so on this item that makes kroger $1.80 less than you, so see ya!

My understanding on these is that you would have to buy 1, the store would give you 1, and your bogo should give you a third. I’m not positive on this, but I think that’s how it works. I think there may be more info in her “how to coupon” link.

My store had these on sale this past week B1G1. 1 pack was priced at $6.22. I bought 4 and used 2 IP Qs for $6/2. The four packs rang up at $3.11 each and $12 was taken off when my coupons were scanned. I got 4 packs for 44 cents! It was a GREAT shopping trip!

Depends on what quality of razor you prefer. You would only get money back from the thin handle twin blade razors at walmart. I prefer to pay a few cents to get the much better quality razors with wide handles, lotion strips and 3-4 blades. You get less razors but they last a lot longer and give a much smoother shave.

The best deal, at least for men’s razors, was a few months ago at Walmart and Target when that P&G Q for $4/1 Gillette Fusion razor Q was available. Target had the deal buy 2 get a $5 gc (at $9.97/ea). So you spent $20 – $8 in Qs = $12oop – $5 gc back = $7 for two razors (or 4 cartridges since each razor comes with two = $1.75/cartridge which is OK and certainly better than the refills). The better deal was Walmart had their gift packs for $4.97 (came with a razor, a cartridge, and a couple of small bottles of Gillette products). Used the $4/1 Q on those too and got them for $0.97oop. They also had, at Walmart, the special edition team Gillette razors on clearance for $6 and they came with two cartridges – so after the $4/1 Q it worked out to just $1/per cartridge as well. If you can get that low it works out to something like $0.10 per shave depending on how many shaves you get out of each cartridge.

I expect there will be some great deals coming up for the holidays. So if they issue high dollar value Qs like that sometimes it pays to hold them until they are about to expire and just keep an eye out for the deals!

I was lucky enough to get those $4.97 Fusion gift packs at walmart when the $4 coupons were around, that was such an awesome deal! I have not seen those gift packs in walmart since. I also got a great Hydro 5 deal at target about a month ago, after sale price & coupons I paid $5 for 2 and received a $5 gift card back.

Yes. And look for bonus packs of mens extreme 3 sensitive…usually 4 razors per pack but they had just a few with 2 free razors in each pack. I got 4 of the 6 packs for a total of $12.74 minus $12.00 for the 2 coupons!

The ladies Quattro were bogo also but they only have 3 razors per pack and are only 5 cents cheaper per pack.

My store had Campbell’s soups on sale for 5/$3 with my coups (2) 40/2 doubled I got 5 cans for only $1.40 and the Kroger brand chicken noodle soup is a dollar a can! I stocked up for the winter.:)

Dillons(Kroger) in the Wichita,Kansas area has now gone to a limit of 5 like coupons and only 2 total internet printed coupons per day. I found out at the check out this weekend. Sometimes it seems most of the coupons come from internet. How do we use only 2 a day. And I checked with them to make sure and it is 2 period not of each kind or brand or anything like that. I geuss if it doesn’t need doubling i’ll be at target. Can’t go to the store everyday for just 2 .

Our area just changed too,but they are saying it is 2 per product, so you can use 2 Betty crocker cookies, 2 betty crocker potatoes, 2 Cheerios, 2 Green giant veggies, etc. I wonder if you store is misunderstanding? It is still a bit limiting, but it beats empty shelves.

I thought so too. But I ave checked with them several times, with diff. people and still get the same answer. 2 internet prints per day period. I just cant understand. It would be soooo much easier if they did it like you are saying ( per type of item) that would be limited enough. I think I might call home office and try to check with them. I don’t know that it will get anywhere though.

Publixs are only good because of their BOGO deals and the fact that they let you use competitors coupons, double, and stack. Okay…that’s really awesome. But if I have to get something that i don’t have a coupon for and isn’t on a sale but I need it anyway, then I go to Kroger. It is ALWAYS cheaper than Publix, guaranteed.

Ye, Mrsf, I totally agree with your entire thought. Stated previously, I have given Kroger numerous tries here and there. I will say, this last trip, my bill was 111.00. I NEVER spend that much at Publix in one trip. I rarely ever walk out of the store spending 50.00. The temptation for me is the 25.00 plus card credit when you transfer a prescription. That’s easy money considering a generic is only like 4. or so. This last credit I had lasted me over a month because I never could really find any good deals.

The Hormel Pepperoni’s that are on sale aren’t the ones in a box. They are in a plastic package with no box. I usually find them in a display near the lunch meat section and they aren’t hanging up where the lunch meat and hot dogs, etc are. Check again and you might find them.

Wow, I’m really surprised by the negative feedback on Kroger. Mine here in Covington, GA isn’t too bad. They take all my q’s and don’t give me any trouble. I agree the add isn’t great but there are a few things I need to get. Thanks to this site I am getting the hang of stocking up and don’t need to buy too much this week.

They do not allow overage. The coupon is usually adjusted to the price.

YMMV – at the two stores closest to me in Smyrna, GA (and the one in Acworth I sometimes will drive up to) they do allow overage as long as it will apply to the rest of the order and not end up causing a negative balance. If I know that’s going to be the case (the Q or Q + double is more than they item price) I usually give those Qs first to make sure there isn’t an issue and then give the rest of my Qs.

My Krogers will give you overage on a Kroger card. Which I think is awesome.

I never get overage in Atlanta, the register always auto adjusts the value of the coupon.
Say an item is 1.75 and I have a $2 coupon, the coupon scans as 1.75. Same with doubling, say an item is .90 and I have a .50 coupon, the register deducts .50 for the coupon then .40 for the “double”.

E-coupons are different, if it is more than the item cost it won’t deduct at all.

That’s how they are suppose to handle e-coupons. If it’s like getting it for free or a straight up free e-coupon, most Krogers won’t let you use it. As it states in there coupon policy.

I will tell you that I have a brother-in-law that is a manager of Kroger where I live and a sister that works at one 100 miles away. The coupon policies are different from these locations. Each Kroger can limit the coupons etc and make their own policies. You really should check at the customer service desk of the Kroger you shop at.

I shop at the oldest Kroger in Newnan most often, and I had an overage of 4 cents and was given 4 cents….I usually use self-checkout because the lines are so long for regular cashiers and I can pack my reusable bags the way I want them packed….but Yes, the downtown Kroger seems to allow them through the SelfCheckout process…hth!!!

$6.40 here in Owensboro, KY, too. I don’t sweat it when prices don’t match exactly. I have paid for lists that have less on them. The other items on the list more that make it up. However, I was bummed too that it wasn’t 4.99.

From time to time I hear folks arguing with cashiers that an item rang up wrong. I never say a word because I know I’m a few steps from getting the item free at customer service. Today I had a mgr special half price item marked $6. It scanned $12 and I thought Yay now it’s free. But the cashier said “oh, that’s not right” and she deducted the $12 and keyed in $6. It’s still a good deal, but I feel kind of cheated. Opinions?

If they have any kind of policy about correct price when the item is scanned then I would have taken it to Customer Service and just dealt with it after the transaction. They could have easily verified the issue by doing a price check, seeing it scans for the wrong price, and then taking action. Fortunately I’ve never had that issue at Kroger but have had it happen at Publix and they take care of it immediately right then and I get my item for free!

I think if the cashier caught it then you should be grateful. Do you go in there hoping things ring up wrong so you can get them for free? That’s cheating the system to me.

I didn’t cheat anyone…it is store policy to refund for THEIR error when they overcharge, that’s why they call it scan right guarantee. Why in world do you think a customer who got overcharged then refunded PER store policy has cheated the store?? The store that overcharges is the one doing the cheating. A customer only gets a refund if they actually notice they got overcharged.No I don’t buy things “just hoping they scan wrong”, that would be absurd. I buy what I need and if it scans wrong I do get the refund that each store policy says I am entitled to. Kroger, Ingles, Publix, Walmart all have scan right guarantees. It’s rare for items to ring wrong anywhere but I do check my receipt at every store for every item.

I think the negative response is to the tone of your first comment…you made it sound like you were upset she caught it and you didn’t get it for free. I personally thought it sounded like you were upset the cashier caught it. OF COURSE you go hoping something rings up wrong so you can get it for free! It’s obvious! I think it’s great the cashier was on her game and adjusted the price appropriately. Good for her!! I wish more of them were that conscientious. I personally tell the cashier when it rings up wrong. That way, the store isn’t cheated out of their money by giving it to me for free and I’m not overcharged. Win-Win. Also to say the store is cheating you because it rings up wrong is just plain absurd. Mistakes happen when keying in pricing. They don’t do it on purpose! Good grief.

The real point is if the store has a “scan right” policy then it has nothing to do with the cashier catching it or not and certainly doesn’t require the transaction to be completed before the error should be corrected. It means the item SCANNED at the wrong price, fell into the policy as described for price scan accuracy, and then that policy should have taken over meaning the cashier should have complied with that policy instead of just correcting the price – seems to me it had scanned incorrectly previously, they knew it was wrong, but instead of correcting it in the system they were leaving it alone and cashiers were correcting it on the fly (which to me has a fishy smell – how did the cashier know the price was incorrect unless it had been dealt with earlier or she had been told? How many cashiers know item prices off the top of their heads for various items in their stores?).

Not sure…I was responding directly to Laura’s tone in her very first comment. I understand there is a policy but I guess I am just the type of person that gives someone the benefit of the doubt and isn’t always thinking someone’s out to screw me over. I personally don’t think they are purposefully not putting in a sale price just hoping someone doesn’t catch it. There are far too many consciencious shoppers out there and they would have to give alot of free things away by gambling on people NOT being consciencious. Just sounds ridiculous to me. Plus, when I was in college, I worked at Krogers here in Texas and know for sure there were errors made…on accident…because people are human. Again, I was more responding to her tone of being upset she didn’t get it for free instead of being grateful the cashier was making it right. Couponers have such a bad wrap for wanting everything for free and this is precisely the reason why.

Not necessarily – you’d be surprised how many people really don’t read their receipt until they get home if at all. And those couponers who specifically go looking for a fight I would have to agree about – it’s not necessarily about price but value (I’ve been known to pay full retail or maybe full sale price if I believe the item has value at that price or the value vs price is worthwhile). I think her complaint was legitimate and she’s being unfairly criticized for expecting the policy to be adhered to – if it had been me I would have taken it to the manager on duty and gotten satisfaction right then and there (not necessarily with the cashier because she was just doing her job and possibly thought she was helping by catching things like that).

I had something similar happen to me. The Manager’s Special (clearance sticker) stickers are placed over the barcodes on the packaging so that the original barcode isn’t scanned. The Manager’s Special stickers have the price in bold. I bought several aluminum foils that were on special and one of them rang up the full price of $3.46 instead of $1.46. It was because the teeniest little bit of the barcode on the actual box was showing and that is what scanned. Of course, I caught it myself in reviewing my receipt before I left the store and had to stand in line at CS to fix it. I don’t think the cashiers know the prices at all, look at the Manager’s specials(i.e. clearance specials) and they have the prices on them usually. This must have been the case. Regardless, I agree that the poster sounded upset that her cashier did their job in changing it to the correct price. I love saving money, but my time is also valuable. I don’t like having to spend my time waiting at CS for have something fixed. I say GOOD JOB Kroger cashier for catching it!!!!

I am an employee for Kroger the policy is if it is under $5 you get the first item free ad the rest rang up for the correct amount if it is over $5 they are supposed to give you the item for the amount and a $5 gift card. You can still use your coupons with the item.

I think as long as they caught it before the transaction was ended then they are still adhereing to their policy. No one has officially been charged anything until the money has been paid. If a problem is noted afterwards then the money should be refunded. Mistakes happen and the cashier took care of it. She did her job and no one was cheated.

Like someone else said, If the item is over $5, it is not free, they just correct the price and you have to ask that they follow their policy of giving you a $5 gift card (when the item is over $5). I personally would much rather the cashier catch it, then have to stand in line at CS to get it fixed.

I am about ready for a good deal, also, Diana! Honestly, I believe our two Kroger stores and Walmart need some good competition!! I actually emailed Publix about the possibility of opening a store in NE Mississippi, but they did not have any plans to do so. We don’t even have a Target! It’s hard to find ANY real deals. :(

Every week I force myself to simply check out the Kroger ad, and every week I see why I no longer shop at this dump. I always hear people say that Kroger is so much cheaper than Publix, but until Kroger gets up to date in running decent sales (like Publix’s weekly B1G1 Free system), I don’t plan on shopping there. They redeemed themselves for a while a couple years back when the stores began accepting competitor coupons, but it was incredibly short-lived (like less than six months).

Walked away with my basket full tonight. The cashier nor manager would except my 4 covergirl coupons due to the price of the products not being $8.00 or more. Really tired of trying to play by the rules as a customer & the stores not abiding by their policy. His reasoning was it is against the law for me not to pay sales tax. I ran into this with the Bengay coupon a while back. The Bengay was $4.35 and the coupons was for $5. At first they said they wouldn’t take it, then they said they would take it, but only at the value of $4.35. I let them keep the Bengay. I personally do not agree with the devaluing of a coupon.. The store will get back the full value of the coupon plus 8 cents handling. Just go use your coupons somewhere like Publix or WalMart that will give you the overage. JMO.

Did anybody use the Pilsbury Crescent rolls coupon or the General Mills printable coupons? Yesterday I tried to use them and when they wouldn’t scan the guy at Kroger told me they were fake. He showed them to a manager who also said they were fake. They were linked on this page in Southern Savers, and I have NEVER had a problem with a coupon that was linked on Southern Savers before. I’m thinking maybe Kroger just didn’t want to deal with it and assumed they were fake. Any ideas on why these didn’t scan? Thanks!
