I was introduced to these about a year ago, Hallmark sent me one to test last Christmas so I gave it to my Grandmother to record the The Story of Christmas for my girls. It was something that she had to have a little help with since her fingers can’t unscrew the lock that goes over the record button, but in the end it was a gift for her and I. She was brought to tears at the idea of being able to forever read my kids a book, and I am still brought to tears every time I hear it (to confess I’m crying just as I type this).
I have no doubt that anyone in your life would have the same excitement as we did.

I lost my dad when my first child was 1 1/2 and I was expecting my second. I really wish they had these 16 years ago! I would have my mother record it. That way I will always be able to hear her voice and so will my children & grandchildren.

Wow-I have no doubt who I would have record this (and I almost started crying as I read this post just thinking about how special it would be!). My husband’s grandmother is almost 98 years old and is as sharp as a tack even though her health is slowly deteriorating. Her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren adore her and this would be such a cherished gift!

My mother and father in law are in their mid 70’s and are the most involved grandparents I have ever known. My eleven year old son was kept by them until entering school whenever I had to be at work. There has never been an illness, school function, or celebration that they have missed. My son prays very often that God will allow them to live a long healthy life (and my husband and I do the same) I know my son’s children will probably never know them, so recording them reading would be as much for my son’s children as for my son, since they have helped in so many ways shape the young man he is becoming.
Definitely my mother as she has Alzheimer’s. She was a teacher and was a wonderful storyteller! It would be something for my children to cherish- a little piece of their grandmother.

The sweet southern sound of my Granny’s voice was always a delight growing up, especially when she was reading to me. As tradition goes, my whole family stayed at her house on Christmas Eve night. She always read a story to me before bed. Now I have a son. My sweet Granny is now a Great Granny. I’d love for her to start that same tradition with him. With a recordable storybook, he would be able to love that sweet southern drawl for the rest of his life!

I saw these books at CVS & thought about purchasing one for them from Nonni & Papi but both my husband & I lost our jobs earlier this year… So funds are tight trying to catch up since my husband found work but I could only find a part time temp position.

That would be a hard choice because my girls are extremely lucky to still have all 4 grandparents. It would probably be my own mother because she spends more time with them than any of the other grandparents and they have a special bond with her. My husband’s grandmother lives next door. She loves to read to the girls, but as she gets older it’s harder for her. She is 86 now, and having a really hard time. I would love to have her record a story, so my girls would have it forever.

I would have my niece read the story. Her two little boys live in Iowa with their dad and she lives in Florida. She will not get to be with them this Christmas morning as it is their dad’s turn to have them on Christmas. Since she won’t be with them, I think it would be wonderful for them to hear her read to them on Christmas.
My mother has been bed or wheelchair bound for most of my children’s young lives. The one thing she is most able to do with them is read. They absolutely love to read with her and have gained an immense love for reading from her. I can’t count the number of books they’ve memorized with her! The kids are now 3,6 and 9. I can’t imagine what an incredible gift this would be for us all, especially my mom, to know that she could forever read to the children.

I would have to confess that I, myself, would have to record the story for my kids. I recently gave birth to my second child and almost died during the process. I have read a book to my oldest child every night since I was 11 weeks pregnant with her and I cannot bear the thought of not being able to read to her every night before bed.

We live in Tennessee and I’ve lived in the US for the last 14 years, my family lives back in Romania and I have tried to have them come and visit to see our 4 wonderful children. I am granny to two wonderful 7 yr old twins girls that love to read. They “borrow” books from granny that belonged to their mom and uncle when they were children. I allow them to take so many home and return and exchange for more when they come to visit. They keep the books separate from their other books at home since they are special books.
I recently found a “cassett tape” in some old tapes that has a story that MY MOM recorded, oh what a surprise, since mom passed 2yrs ago. The girls loved her so much. I am planning to have this tape copied for all her great grandkids and hopefully can find a copy of the book that she was reading from. It will be a surprise for my sisters and their grandchildren.
I had just started researching Hallmark and thinking how great it would be to record one for the twins too with my voice. Their mom is a single parent and we were told when she was a child that she would not be able to have children. She was not trying but God so richly blessed all our family with not one but two!!!!! God is so good!!! They are our only grands and we have prayed for them before they arrived and we continue to pray that God’s hand be upon them all the days of their lives and that they serve him.

As I sit by mymother’s bedside here in MN as she lay dying, I wish I could have had these storybooks when my children were little so they would have her voice forever – for them and their children. Oh, gosh…I would try to get my Mother-in-law to record for my daughter who will be 1yr old Dec. 16. MIL recently fell and broke her leg on her way to our house the day after Thanksgiving! She has no mobility now since that was her good leg after her last stroke (she even has had cancer twice – breast and uterine) and I am afraid she might not be around long enough for my daughter to remember her one day. Something like this would make a great memory…if we help her to do it. She has arthritis in her hands and probably can’t work it herself. So sad.

Orlando is also in the military and stationed in Japan right now for three years. My son is very upset he can not see him and he doesn’t even realize it will be three years before they are state side again.

My mom lives in Ukraine, thousands of miles away and my kids miss her BIG deal!!! That is something I could do to make them feel a little bit closer to her :)) It’s another Christmas without her, but if she can’t be physically present, at least we will be able to hear her voice!!
When my first grand child was born, my husband got one of these books to record. At first he was nervous and re-did the recording several times until he got it “just right”. The story talked about how much the child was loved. I will never forget the first time our little Emma made the connection of the reader with her “Papa” as he read along with his recorded voice. We live far away and can only visit 1 or 2 times a year but she can be reminded of how much her Papa loves her with the turn of a page. Now we also buy one yearly for our second grandchild! They are great gifts and real tearjerkers!!

He was calling me everyday at nap time because she was crying because I wasn’t there to sing to her. I’ve had to record myself singing on his phone so she would have my voice. She is too little to play the phone herself, but a recordable book would work perfect. She could listen to my voice anytime she wanted to. This would be the perfect gift for her.

My 89 year old father-in-law that lives with us, a true gem! He is a WWII Marine combat veteran, the oldest at this year’s Marine Corp Anniversary Dinner. His 4 & 5 year old Great Granddaughters (my Granddaughters) are the highlight of his life, as he was widowed 4 years ago, after 64 years of marriage! They only had one date before he was shipped to the South Pacific… she waited for him to return; the rest is family history! Now he waits for the Grand-girls to come running in to see him every week when they visit. Hard to say who enjoys that the most: him, them or us…

I would love to be able to have my daughters and I read the story to my two nieces. My brother is a United States Marine and he’s had to move his family 3 times in the past 6 years. We were blessed that for 3 years they were only a couple of hours away from us, but this summer he was moved 13 hours away. Just a few months after they moved my sister in law gave birth to their second little girl. We’ve only been able to see her once because were so far apart. We miss them dearly and this would be a way we could be with them this Christmas.

She has shown me how to cook,sew but most importantly the prayerlife of a God fearing women. My granny means the world to me. My uncle was recently diagnosed with a rare form of cancer and the doctors were clueless as to what it was or how to treat it. He was given a very small survival rate, had a bone marrow transplant, and is still fighting like a champ. The doctors seem hopeful but not certain that the cancer is gone. I would have him read it to my niece and nephew so, not only they could always hear his voice, but the rest of our family could too.

I am a counselor in a low income school that serves students from a children’s group home. These students are considered at risk and have often times been through multiples forms of abuse and numerous foster care families. Some students are up for adoption, while others get the occasional visit. I would like to give a recordable book to this one particular fourth grader who wants to be with his grandmother and his siblings. His grandmother could record her voice on the book during his next family visit so that he can feel closer to her. This student loves to read, but is a little behind grade level. Having a book like this would have him re-reading and enjoying reading more.

I would have my Dad record “The Very First Christmas” book for my daughter. My grandfather was in World War 2 and I taped some of his stories for a college report. I treasure ever word of those tapes now that he is gone. This would be an awesome keepsake for my daughter for years to come.

I have been wanting to get one of these for my family up north to record for my 19 month old son…we just haven’t had the extra money because of my son being hospitalized numerous times due to his CF. My son, husband, and I live hundreds of miles from all of my family and don’t get to see each other as much as we would like to and this book would absolutely be the perfect gift for my son…he would love it…and appreciate it…especially when he hears his MawMaw and PawPaws voice….so sweet!!! Hi Jenny, First of all, thank you so much for all of the effort in putting this website together I have been able to save so much money to feed our family now that I have lost my job.
As for the book: We would have our daughter read the story and send the book to her grandfather who is in a assisted living home in another state. Our daughter is his youngest grandchild and he would get such a kick out of hearing her read. She just started reading fluently. Her voice is animated and its so much fun hearing her read. I think it would make a neat gift for grandpa. :)

My Aunt always struggles to find gifts for her but she loves looking at books with pictures and turning the pages. My Aunt goes to see her each week but has a hard time being away from her so much. This would be perfect to let her record a story and have it for April to hear her voice anytime she wanted.

These are such great books. My husband and I have started buying these for our nieces and nephews for their 1st birthdays (we had 3 born last year).

I would have my grandmother who is 88 and lives 5 hours away record one for my children who are 2 and 4. She is an amazing woman, but her health is failing. It pains me that my kids probably won’t know this woman who has so much wisdom. She left her farming family and became the first to get a college degree and then went on to get her doctorate. She has always given to those who she saw with a need. I would love for my little ones to hear her voice telling one of these great stories.
My granddaughter would love to be able the hear her “Mamaw” read to her. She “talks” to me on the phone. Can’t understand her yet, but she does. I think she’d like to be able to hear her “Mamaw” anytime she wants to!

What a fabulous giveaway! I have a friend who has a mother living in another state who is dying of cancer. She told me that her mother (who is currently living on disability) wants to be able to give a recording of her reading a story to each of her grandkids for christmas so they have it to remember her by. Because of money being tight they were going to do it on a DVD and buy a story book to accompany. What a precious gift this would be for her!

My mother will be 83 years old on Dec. 3 and she is the person I would have record the story. In addition to her own grown children, she has 3 grown grandchildren and 5 small great-grandchildren. Her health is not good and she may not be with us much longer, but we are all so close to her that this would be something we all would cherish. From her 56 year old son all the way down to her 1 year old great-grandson, this would be a priceless treasure for all of us.
Without a doubt, I would have my grandfather recorded reading one a story. He still very young (68, I think) and was diagnosed with IPF (a disease that will ultimately shut down his organs) almost 2 years ago. My first child is due in July and I do not know if they will ever meet. He is one of the most wonderful people in my life and I would love more than anything for my future children to have this awesome opportunity to hear him read them a story. It would mean so much to me.

Well, I would definitely have my mother record the story. My mother is a recovering prescription addict. She has had 3 strokes, seizures, ischemic colon, kidney failure, a bifemoral bypass, etc. I am only 28 and have been caring for her for the last 9 years. She has had a rough time, and I would want to hear it for myself. I am finally meeting my mother- experiencing things I had never saw of her before. Plus,l am engaged, and hopefully one day will have kids. I want them to have a piece of her for what she is. A survivor.

I just had my first child this past March. My father who is 76 years old became a grandpa for the first time. One of my most vivids memories as a child was my father reading me bedtime stories. Charlie Brown and Snoopy were my favorites. Because of my dads age I would love for him to record a storybook for my son so he will have the same fond memerios as I do.
My dad just had a stroke one week ago today, He is expected to recover, with lots of rehab, My dad has been my rock and life for me and my daughters, and I do not yet have grand kids, my girls are all on there way to there careers, so it may be a while, before I do, so I would like my dad to record a book now for my grand kids, in case he is no longer here for them to get to know.

Because I am not able to travel Last Christmas I recorded A Night Before Christmas which they have listened to over and over again.Having these books means they can listen to their Great Aunty anytime they want to It would be lovely for them to be able to pass them on to their own children when the time comes
