We’re all trying to save money – especially on groceries!  How far do you think you can stretch a $50 gift card?  I’m going to give 4 winners a $50 gift card to the grocery store of your choice (needs to be one I at least cover on Southern Savers).  Free groceries on me!

There is a catch though…  The 4 winners will report back to us with pictures of what their $50 gift card actually bought them.  We will all hold you accountable, because everyone wants to see how you did!  You could take your time and get loads of things at CVS or spend it all on a big trip to Publix.  It’s your call how to spend it, I just want to see you try to stretch it as far as you can.

How great would it be if y’all took my $200 and at least doubled it…  I know some of you could do even better than that!

    • Nate

I’ve gotten pretty good at stretching my dollars at RiteAid. By recycling my UpRewards from week to week, shopping sales, and using coupons, I could probably get $150 worth of items if I started with $50.

    • MEG

I would totally do this! Who doesn’t need $50 for groceries? Let’s see Target or Teeter, Target or Teeter… Hummmm Teeter! I would like a card to Harris Teeter. My Little one and I love going there.

    • Spinner

I’d take it to target! I’m betting I could get at least $100 worth of goods. Love stacking target coupons with mfr ones and even ibotta deals! I also love a challenge! ;)

    • Katy

My husband and I get a lot of stuff from Rite Aid. We could double the value of the gift card at least. It sure would be fun to give it a shot.

    • Aubrey M.

I’m a Food Lion shopper so I think I could get about $75 worth of items for $50, but it would not include stockpiling. It would be for things I actually need and will use during the upcoming week only. It’s not a savings if it just sits on your shelf.

I would want to get a card for Kroger. I used to be able to get at least $100, but now that they’ve stopped doubling in our area, I think more realistically it would be $75-80. I’ll definitely be sharing this on Facebook.

I am a mom of three young kids who has recently had to start using a wheelchair, due to a neurocardiological illness, so shopping is a lot harder now. I’d love to use a gift card to Publix, combined with Jenny’s coupon links and the weekly ad, to motivate myself to get back in to couponing and buy $100 worth of snacks and treats to share with the friends who do most of our family’s errands for me now.

    • andrea

Unfortunately our stores don’t double coupons, so I could turn $50 into $150 of groceries at my local Publix. If they doubled coupons it would be more. Thanks for the chance to win!

I shared this post on my facebook page so that everyone can have a chance to enter.

The idea of this really excites me! I would have to say Publix would be my first choice. With the use of coupons and competitor coupons I could realistically stretch $50 to a little over $100. I typically save a minimum of 50% to 60% when I shop there with Jenny’s help of course!

    • I’d like to win a gift card to Harris Teeter, I know I could easily get $100 worth of groceries for $50- and this would be food, not just junk… but also include fruits and veggies and meats! Healthy stuff- I feel like when people save 90% and all, they get a lot of items but not necessarily things they can make meals from.

    • Tambry

I would go straight to Sams Club or Walmart, because they have the lowest prices, right?? :-)

I would shop at Bi-lo and Publix to take advantage of the gas promotions to save even more. The gift card money would be used to stock up on items when the prices are really low or free that exceed my budget in order to rebuild my stockpile.

    • Emily

Publix would be great…hopefully I could get at least $100-$125 but I might stretch it out as long as possible to get the best deals!

    • Varn9899

Bi-Lo would be my store of choice and I could easily stretch the $50 gift card into $200 or more in value through the benefit of their doubling coupons and buy this get this free promos

I would want a gift card to Bi-Lo. I could get it to $150-$160 worth of groceries.

I’d pick Harris Teeter but I wouldn’t use the card for me. If I win, we’ll use it to donate to some of our churches who are helping feed hungry people. I can take that $50 and turn it into $150 of groceries, and help feed a whole lot of people who need a helping hand.

Our rural county just saw the abrupt (and totally unexpected!) closure of the area’s largest food pantry, Loaves & Fishes. With no warning, lots of people found themselves without a resource that they had come to really, really rely upon. With North Carolina reeling from unemployment and now the government’s shutdown, it has left a lot of kids going to bed hungry.

The Salvation Army and a coalition of local churches have stepped up and are trying to do what they can to fill the void, but it’s been tough. Our Salvation Army branch says that while donations of money are always welcome, what they really need is food.

So while I could turn that $50 into $150 of groceries, it won’t go to my family – with Southern Savers’ help, we’re covered. It’ll go to helping those in need in our area.

Thanks for all you do, Jenny!

I would like a gift card to Publix. I’m not sure how much I could get out of it. I guess it would depend on how good of a sale they are having. I don’t want to overestimate, but I might could get $75 or $100 out of it.

    • Brittany Waits Albaneso

I would want my $50 to Publix. I feel I could easily get $125 out of it and if I really planned and couponed with b1g1 I feel I could get $200. If I win I promise to prove it!!!!

    • Monique

Publix is my favorite store to shop. With a $50 giftcard and the right match of sale and coupons, I could easily use $50 to purchase between $175-200 in retail priced items. I’d be happy to share my trip details, should I win!

CVS please! I think I could get around $250, since I’m usually running at about that with our favorite products. Oh man, so excited about a challenge!

    • Judy Kalley

It would depend on what i wanted to buy. I do not live in the south anymore but where i live we have a 99cent only store that i do most of my shopping at.They do not accept coupons (DARN!) but they have the most awesome deals on fresh ORGANIC produce and GLUTEN FREE frozen stuff I have ever seen. A salad mix that would cost $5 at Walmart or elsewhere is $1 there. The same with everything. I spent $5 the other day on what would cost about $20 elsewhere. I use coupons still at other stores but no one where i live doubles even so the deals are less spectacular. The sales at the other stores are OK, rarely that fantastic. Safeway did have pasta at 77 cents so I bought over 10 boxes. If i could not get the gift card for the 99 cent only store, I would go for the Safeway or even Walmart.

      • Judy Kalley

I also shared on FB. I still love Southern Savers and share the deals anyway.

Kroger and AT LEAST double it.. I am in need of money now so the groceries would be put to good use here!

    • Andrea B

Publix – I am no expert but could get close to $100 worth of groceries. Just not fruit and milk that we need today!

    • lee h

Publix. I think I could at least double the %0 dollars easily.

    • April Spivey Adkins

Target. I could use store, manufacturer, and Cartwheel to save some big bucks!

Publix! And I have done 800.00 and spent 25.00 oop and another trip was 500.00 and they paid me .75 to walk out. Depends on sales. I could absolutely do at least 200.00 depending on sales at the time :)

I would want to win a gift card to CVS. After navigating my way through your blog, I have learned how to get freebies at CVS with extra care bucks and coupons. Love the fact that I can get toothpaste, mouthwash, and much more free.

      • Stephanie McCann

I meant to say I could easily stretch it to $100 maybe even more with the freebies.

    • Tara

Either Martin’s (Giant) or Harris Teeter. I could at least get $100 worth, maybe more. :)

    • AshleyAshley

I would love a 50 dollar gift card to Publix. I can always double my money there by buying bogo, and then stack coupons on those deals to usually pay a third. So at the minimum I could manage to make 50 turn in to 150!

      Shared on Facebook. Thanks Jenny!!

    • Dramatico Loco

I would shop at DECA Commissary. I could see with decent planning using $50 to get approximately $85-$100 in products, easily.

    • KD

Kroger or Publix – either one I could make this worth at least $100.

With a $50 gift card to CVS, I could buy at least 8 packs of pampers to diaper my baby for a few weeks. that averages out to roughly $6 per pack. Normal retail for pampers at CVS is 12.99. So I would save over 50%!!!

    • Pam

      Publix $ 75.00

    • Cindy Wilson-Kosloski

I would pick CVS…yesterday I bought 3 bags of pistachios there for $10 and got $5 back. !!

    • Cindy

Oh wow. Umm….Harris Teeter would be my pick. During a good sale week I usually don’t even spend that much because of combining the sales and coupons, but I could sure try!

    • beattyjg

Harris Teeter! I could get at least $200. I love this challenge!

    • CL

Looking at all of these comments below, I sure wish we had a Publix around here! I’m so jealous! Here in Los Angeles, retail prices are significantly higher (usually $1-2 more per item), so I love shopping at Rite Aid because I find that I can stretch my dollar the farthest there! Taking into consideration Culver City prices, I think I could get away with at least $250.00 in products!

I have been couponing now for little over a year and cut my grocery bills in half. Give me this opportunity and I will show you and all the ones out their struggling to feed their families how you can take $50 and stretch it using coupons.

Jenny with your help you’ve been feeding us already a long time! I am Mom and yes a firefighter…lost my job a few months back when I went to HR to report harrassment and was terminated..issue never addressed. Proud to say I have done every odd job and NO GOVT HELP!!!! SO I COULD stretch a $50 Publix card for almost triple it’s value!!!

      • Musicalme4

Hi. I want to thank you for your selfless service to your community, and for your efforts to support your family independently. My hubby fought fire for just under 30 years who ended up retiring 5 months early due to disability, which resulted in a significant reduction in his retirement pay. He receives NO disability pay at all. We still have kids at home (one of whom is special needs) and I’m not currently employed, so we rely heavily on Jenny’s expertise and the help of those who comment to pinch every penny until it screams. My thoughts and prayers are with you.

        • firegirl1168

You are so kind!!! I’ve finally realized it is OK to CRY! I have been so prideful for so long… I have also learned …GOD WILL PROVIDE this is a test of FAITH! My lad is at home too! And eats too much! OK lets laugh I can tell you the mileage everywhere locally, how many gallons of hauled water per toilet, how to wash the car in the rain…Just means improvise. Just ask a firefighter and if there is a will there is a way. I did send to HR a complaint of being assigned a bedroom (NOT THE REGULAR DORM for all) 8×6 with one other man. And a locker in a hall of 30 ish male lockers. Even our military knows better. Worked many years at BHAM FIRE but St. 1 has different rules. 50

    • Xiocastro

I could at least double that with a gift card that size. I would let you choose between BI-LO and Harris Teeter. Either store I could probably get between 100 and 200 dollars worth of merchandise. Just from experience in the last week I saved over 140 and spent less than 100 dollars, primarily from the tips and advice that you give. My family and I are very grateful for your website, we are on an extremely tight budget right now. THANK YOU. With the latest family dollar ads, I could probably do the same thing there.

Definitely BiLo which is my favorite store. My savings so far this year are well over $5000 and with fuel perks even more. Today I went and bought $109.69 for $25.67. My best trip was $468.97 for $65.38, I LOVE BiLo and could go on and on. By the way my Bilo has the Swiffer Sweepers marked down to $5.74 and the refills (wet) are $5.09 with the B1G1 from P&G 9/29 you pay $5.74 for both, that is a $11.74 savings!!!

    • Cassie

I would say CVS its my favorite store and I think I could get at least $80 to $100 for the $50 gc and I would strive for a lot more!!!!!

I would more than likely say Publix However, as much as I try I just don’t manage to get the superbugs/supersavings. I do manage 5-10 dollars savings off the total. Certainly not super-couponing or super stockpiling. Times are tough and I sure could use the 50$ help though :)

    • wendyof

I am sure I could nearly double my money at target!

    • Lisa

Been unemployed and could definitely use it with two teenagers who eat quite a bit. I’d use it at Publix and would hopefully come close to doubling the amount in retail. Thanks!

Publix is the ONLY place I shop…My Publix (Hwy 96 in Kathleen, Ga) has the most awesome group of employees you will ever find at a grocery store. There is no doubt in my mind that I could easily turn a $50.00 card into a $100.00 worth of groceries using all of the information and coupons availaible on your site. My store of choice would be walmart – we gets lots of produce and stock up essentials there. I think I could get a whole pantry of the stock up items that we use and lots of produce to keep the fridge stocked with the basics. Would be fun to spend the $50 and then display in photo so it shows the free goods to everyone for their previewing. Thanks!

HEB, a regional grocery store in Texas. Between there meal deals and BOGOs plus my own coupon stash I could at least get 100 for 50. That would be fantastic because my grocery budget is only $110 a month after coupons and I could use the $50 for holiday food and my stockpile (its small but I like to know I can eat off of it for 2 weeks as a back up).

Thanks for offering this, its going to really help someone out!

    • TT

    • NonnieMouse

I would take it to Kroger. Mine was wiped out during the Private Selection sale, so I have some fantastic rainchecks that would make those pennies scream. With those, the $50 would easily buy over $150 in groceries at normal prices (but I never pay those prices, ha!).

I would love to receive a $50 gift card to CVS. By combining manufacturer coupons and rebates with CVS coupons and rewards offers, I usually save between 60-85% on all my personal care and household items. Products that I don’t normally use, I will donate or share with others. In September, I had one of my best series of shopping trips this summer – I was able to purchase 10 Revlon foundations and lipsticks, 2 Mitchum deodorants, 2 detergents, 4 pain relievers/vitamin products, 2 body washes, 2 canned soups, 2 Revlon haircolor kits and a combination of 9 Colgate mouthwash/toothbrush/toothpaste products – that resulted in a $11 moneymaker! So I would aim for $225-$250+ with the gift card. Thanks for all the helpful tips and leads to sales, coupons and special offers.

I would select Publx and with patience and determination, I believe I could stretch that $50 to about $150 with the combination of BOGOs, manufacturer coupons and Winn Dixie / Target competitor coupons! :)

    • Virginia Brooks

My store of choice is always Publix!! I believe I could stretch that $50 to $200 if the sales are good.

    • Leigh

I love Farm Fresh and I could get at least $100 worth of groceries with a $50 gift card.

    • hollyferrero

Either Target or Publix is where I do all my shopping. Too hard with 3 small kids and working full time to go anywhere else most weeks.

    • Marjorie Dee Dietz

Without hesitation, I would select Bi-lo. I know I can at least get $200 worth of groceries for $50 when I combine manufacturer, competitor, store, e-coupons and extra to boot with savingstar and fuelperks. I know I can do it because I got $208.60 worth of groceries for $54.20 on a recent Bi-lo trip. It was a lot of work but is was well worth it to be able to save money any way that I can.=) Shared on Facebook!!

    • Emily

Aldi! Sorry, but their prices can be lower than couponing prices with no coupon hassles.

    • Allie in SC

I do a lot of my shopping at Bi-Lo and could definitely come up with several scenarios (with Southern Savers help, of course!) to make this really stretch! Thank you for the chance at this giveaway!! Good luck everyone!
