ways to save at chick-fil-a

Traveling a lot means that we know the menus on a few too many fast food restaurants.  Hands down the favorite in our family is Chick-fil-A.  We could eat there every day I think and no one would complain.  When we do eat somewhere else my two year old still calls her nuggets her “Chick-fil-A”.  I need to teach her that we call them nuggets, but it’s just too cute to correct.

There are some tricks to saving money at Chick-fil-A that I feel are passed down from wise older parents.  In case no one has ever taught you these tricks, I thought I would compile all of our tips in one place!

8 Ways to Save at Chick-fil-A

Free Dessert for Kids
Convince your kids to skip the kids toy and they can get a free kiddie cup or cone of ice cream.  My kids used to have to put serious thought into this, but now they see the value of free dessert!  The toys just add clutter to our already crazy car anyway.

Join the Kids Club
Something new this year at Chick-fil-A is the Kids Club.  Sign up and get mailers with activities for your kids and possibly some fun coupons thrown in too.  This is brand new and not available at all locations, but hopefully you’ll find one in your area in the list.

Yearly Cow Calendar
Every year the Chick-fil-A calendar is filled with awesome freebies.  These come out every November and are sold until they sell out at each location.  Each month has one freebie.  We give the calendar to our kids as a present because they love the pictures and then we enjoy the coupons as a family.  Many families ask for this for Christmas and get more than one so that a few folks can enjoy the freebies each month.

Cow Appreciation Day
The eleventh of July every year is a special time at Chick-fil-A.  If you haven’t taken part in the annual tradition of Cow Appreciation Day, you are missing out on the best freebie deal out there!  Dress up like a cow and you get a completely free meal!!  Most locations allow you to pick from any meal on the menu too!  It’s the only night of the year that I can eat out with all my kiddos and pay nothing.

Follow on Social Media & Text
Most locations have their own facebook pages and email lists.  Make sure to follow your favorite locations to be in the know on special events and discounts.  They will run receipt days that allow you to get the meal you just ordered again for free if you save the receipt and come back on a special day.  Some locations even offer text message discounts!  Just ask at your location what they offer.  You can also follow Chick-fil-A corporate on instagram they post fun pictures.

There are more coupons than just in the Cow Calendar.  While they aren’t all over the place, you will find coupons for free ice cream and other treats at various events.  Pretty much anytime you go somewhere and see a Chick-fil-A tent up stop by and see if they have goodies they are passing out.  A few years ago I had surgery and even had the Chick-fil-A cow stop in and pass out coupons in my hospital room…

Report Card Freebies
If your kids manage to get all A’s and B’s many locations offer report card incentives. Bring in a report card and see what they are giving as a reward!  The locations we’ve visited have given ice cream for free! For homeschoolers there are many sites that offer free printable report cards.  If your kids have earned it, they also deserve the sweet rewards.  Print out a report card for them and most locations will accept it too.  As with other special events, ask your location if they are participating.

Christmas Gift Card Promotions
This is my go-to tip to save at many restaurants… every November and December watch for promotions on Chick-fil-A gift cards.  These vary every year but many times they are get a $5 gift card free when you purchase a $25 gift card.  That’s a 20% savings if you think about it.  Get a few of those deals and save them to eat on in the months ahead.

Do you have any other tips to saving at Chick-fil-A??

I don’t know if all the locations do it, but our CFAs in Florida print out surveys on their receipts fairly often (I’ve gotten dozens in the course of my CFA addiction!) that if you fill out within 48 hours, you get a free sandwich! Totally worth a few minutes of answering questions about your experience – which is always good!

    • Me

There is the “A” lister club at our CFA. For the frequent visitors. Also, they take expired paper coupons (like you get for going to the fair).
You get coupons if you do the Winshape Camp races.
Oh free CFA food a year if you are one of the 100 at an opening. Fair warning you have to camp out to be one of the 1st 100.
What calendar are you getting? They only have a discount card now inside the calendars, you get one freebie a month with no other coupons. Also, if you don’t use it in that month it goes away. Or maybe we were the guinea pigs. It is limit one card per transaction. Limit one per e-mail.
On Kids nights they often have give away’s, maybe not food or anything “great”, but, we’ve got free t-shirts before.

      • Av8hermommy

My calendar didn’t have coupons either. It had the card (Florida)

      • mommalana

We use two cards per transaction every month without any issues.

        • Me

They might have changed it. I haven’t tried 2 at a time since they started. Thx for heads up.

      • AP

They have permanently switched to the discount card instead of the paper coupons on the calendars. Also, some free food promos also are provided via a plastic card similar to a credit card so that it can only be used once (we participated in one a while back at an event where the new salads were being introduced and the promo card offered one free salad a month over the following three months)

        • Me

Nevermind I mis-read what you wrote, I thought you meant they don’t have paper coupons anymore. I was going to say I got one yesterday. We get both plastic and paper. I prefer paper personally.

We were at the playground one day and one of our chick-fil-a managers was walking around handing out coupons for free kids meals! He asked how many kids I had and gave me one for each- since I have four that’s pretty generous!

    • Av8hermommy

If you’re a member of sams club, they sell gift card packs at a 20% discount. I believe it’s five $10 cards for $40. We can use that for several months combined with other discounts for great savings.

Sometimes they give surveys on receipts for free sandwiches. Complete the short survey and go back for free!

      • tcpanz

Can you tell where you have seen this? I checked the Sam’s closest to me and most of their cards are not 20% off and they don’t carry CFA cards. I am wondering if this is only in certain stores.

I run a lot of local 5K races and love it when Chic-Fil-A sponsors because they always bring the cow out as well as some coupons. I’ve gotten lots of coupons from races that way and sometimes they bring sandwiches and snacks for the runners. It is one of the pricier fast food establishments but I feel like the food is better quality.

Another tip is if you like the cookies and cream milkshake, I will order the ice dream in a cup, then add oreo cookie crumbles (like a 25 cent upcharge). Let it sit while you eat your meal and when you finish, it will be milkshake consistency!

    • Never_Speechless

I signed up for email and listed my local store. They send me coupons for free food. 3 times so far in 6 months.

Boo hoo, Kids Club is not in Asheville or Hendersonville NC

    • Haley Anne Wall

Awesome about 5 of the ones around us participate! Thanks so much

    • mommalana

Free drinks for seniors with the purchase of an entree! This means we buy two breakfast biscuits and both get a free coffee. Not all locations have this deal but it really pays to ask.

    • amyr

I remember the days when my kids were little, and they shared a kids’ meal. That saved us money. Now they eat more than I do!

    • tori729

I totally did NOT know about the Kid’s Club and it’s in my area. Score!! THanks!

Some locations do kids eat free nights, but I haven’t checked on that lately. Every restaurant is different and it totally varies.

    • KittyLuvr

The Chick Fil A in Huntersville NC has the best promo nights for children including Daddy Daughter Princess Date Night, Mother Son Date Knight….all are advertised in the drive thru line and have many fun activities..including giveaways and free items.

    • Janet Shelton Fugett

Sometimes on your receipt, there is info to complete a short online survey about your visit (seriously, I can complete it on my phone in the drive thru) and in exchange for doing the survey, you get a free sandwich!

    • Tracey

With three teenagers in my house, I have learned that it is cheaper to buy a nugget tray and a couple of large fries to share.

    • Elisabeth Ruff Townley

Some Chick-fil-a’s give military dicounts. We have 6 kids, so have often used multiple calendar cards in one trip. It has never been an issue. We each have one on our own e-mail account. It helps cut down costs! I have also ordered a small nugget tray and some large fries because that is cheaper. We have 5 local chick-fil-a’s, so I am on all of their social media sites- we have gotten a lot of free food from Chick-fil-a by doing their special events! I am definitely going to have to watch for gift card deals this winter- what a great idea to stock up and use them later in the year. And I just signed up for the kid’s club. Didn’t know about that. Thanks everyone!

    • JHriv

Here’s another one – you can order any of the salads without meat and it is cheaper. Instead of $7.99, my salads are $5.99. It is called a “base salad.” I know that many of you will say that the chicken is the best part (I’m a vegetarian now and I still agree with that sentiment), but keep that in mind if you want to save a few calories and dollars every now and then!

    • Alex

You can order a kids meal and upgrade to a sandwich…costs less than regular sandwich meal and plenty of food for a meal. Also, although their kid meal gifts are great, if your child doesn’t want it, you can exchange it for a kid’s size ice cream cup.

      • Thom1977

Wow! Didn’t know that was an option. Thanks for sharing.

        • Amy L

Not all stores honor this! Tried it .. doesn’t work if they won’t honor the request .. I just got charged for a #1 combo instead!

    • Jenny

My local store has bingo every Wednesday morning which is free to play and the prizes are free coupons (my parents both play every week so I get a lot of there free coupons)

Our Chiour CFA (St Augustine, Fl) has BOGO nuggets every Monday night. We go every week…Love those nuggets!

Hi I am a marketing director for a local Chick-fiL-A and something exciting is coming this year. An app called Chick-fiL-A One where you can do mobile ordering, and it will also
be an awards program where you can be sent free food coupons. This is coming to Charleston, SC Jan 25th and the rest of US in June. It is really going to be great.

      • Teresa

I was wondering if you saw this post. I was going to copy it for you, haha. I am glad you get to do this job. :-)

        • Teresa

Cheri, did you ever think about Bingo for seniors? I saw this done in Warner Robins. :-)

      • sarah

what type of degee does someone have to have to be a marketing director?

    • David

People tend to do the math wrong on the gift card thing. Technically you’re getting $30 by paying $25. $5 off $30 is NOT 20%. Still worth doing, but when people who understand math hear that they cringe on the inside.

    • amanda

some receipts have surveys on the bottom. If you take a minute or two to complete it, I think they reward with a free chic fil a sandwich

    • James McEntyre

Chick Fil A is some real STINGY FAST FOOD RESTAURANT.
