amazon mom policy changes

Update: They are now putting people on the waiting list again.  Sorry…

Amazon Mom has been closed for a while, but is now taking new members now!  This is great news for anyone stocking up on things for little people.

As an Amazon Mom member, you get:

3 Free Months of Amazon Prime
Half off the year price of an Amazon Prime membership
20% off diapers and wipes
15% off grocery
5-15% off household supplies

Amazon Mom is a free membership and open to anyone caring for a baby or small child, not just moms.

As an Amazon Prime member, you will get access to free movies and TV shows from Amazon Instant Video as well as free 2 day shipping, enjoy this for the first 3 months and then consider whether the $39 (half off) is worth it for the rest of the year.

tried and it said not currently accepting.  Is there anything special we are supposed to do to sign up?

    • Elizabeth

Tried, Not accepting but added myself to waiting list.

    • Heidi Johnson

Amazon Mom account gets your Prime shipping but doesn’t get you the instant video access. This is listed in the FAQ – http://www.amazon.com/gp/feature.html/ref=amb_link_360027562_21?ie=UTF8&docId=1000535321&pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_s=center-1&pf_rd_r=14561E6NQMWNKCH9N5Q9&pf_rd_t=1401&pf_rd_p=1346755742&pf_rd_i=1000535321#pivko

      • Rosie

They have changed this with the new (2012) Moms.  Basically, it is Amazon prime with discounts on diapers and wipes.

    • Candace

      also tried but no success!

    • Mneukam

      Yep, already closed. :(

    • Ben

Tried but no luck. I added myself to the waiting to the list. Are we missing something here?

    • carlie

They are not accepting new members… all you can do is join the wait list… you need to take down this post!

    • Shan7seh

      It’s closed….

    • heaya

Wow, I never realized that it had a time where it took or had a wait list. I enrolled back in October with no issue. I’m at the point where I have to make $25 in qualifying purchases to add the additional free months of membership.

    • Tara

I’ve been on the waiting list for two months now and being on the waiting list they will send emails out to those who can enroll to the program/when the program becomes available. So far it has been closed for awhile:(

      • Chrissy

Apparently registration was open to the general public earlier today. I’ve been on the waiting list, too, but I haven’t received any emails from Amazon and I haven’t heard of any other waiting list folks getting emails to register either. Needless to say, I don’t have much faith in the waiting list . . .

    • Mpstephens13

      Closed. On wait list now

    • Julie

I got “wait listed” too. Darn.

    • AnnaBella

      Where do you sign up?

    • einnaej

If you have to be ut on a wating list, this really shouldn’t be posted!!!!!!!

    • Lilflkbe

how do you get the 50% off prime membership?

    • Nora

How frustrating?  How do I get on the wait list?

    • Chrissy

It’s working again!  I just signed up!

    • Maria

I just tried and they wanted to charge me…..

      • Rebeccajo

Same here. It was going to charge me $79 with no free trial.

    • Mwpcv

I was just able to sign up by clicking on the “Amazon Mom” link above.

    • Couponingcoco

I signed up too.  Yeah!  However, it said that it would be $79 for a year after the 3 free months.  Is that correct?

      • Chrissy

I saw the same thing in my account. I looked up the benefits of Amazon Mom online also and didn’t see anything about 50% off a year of Prime. Maybe they’ve removed that benefit?

      • heaya

You get the first 3 months for free, but while you have those 3 months you can get up to 12 additional months for free by making qualifying purchases in the Amazon Mom/Baby store. To earn a month you have to make $25 in QUALIFYING purchases in one single action. The items that are qualifying will have a yellow banner over them at the top  when you are logged into your Amazon Mom account that tells you “buy this to extend your membership.” Each membership extension will be listed in you Amazon Prime member info, the extensions are granted after the items have shipped. So for example, if you buy a Britax car seat that is $250, you would get 10 months of free Amazon Prime membership extension added to your 3 months from the date you signed up. You can also make these qualifying  purchases anytime during your free trial, say you only got 2 free months, and are about to run out, just go make $25 in qualifying purchases (diapers, certain beauty creams, toys, etc) and it’ll give you an extension. The amount of months that you can earn is subject to change, but now it has been 12 months only. Also, cool note, if you buy something that is on a special, like say is normally $25 but they’re doing a 50% special with the Amazon Gold Box deals or a Coupon deal/coupon code deal, you then are paying $12.50 out of pocket, but your account will still be credited for an extension if the product was a qualifying item. I got a month for free when they had that 50% off on the Melissa & Doug toys during Christmas time. Just be careful about qualifying purchases, and note that it has to be at least $25 in a SINGLE purchase, so if you buy a few items throughout the day but you didn’t check them out together,it won’t count, it has to be all in one order. HTH!

        • Chrissy

I thought Amazon changed the rules after 2011 and is no longer allowing you to extend your free Amazon Prime with qualifying purchases. Can anyone confirm this?

          • heaya

Yeah that’s correct, I only was going by memberships made prior to 2012, but they just recently discontinued the extension part of the program. Still, 3 months for free is awesome.

        • Rosie

This is old information, you do NOT automatically renew your membership for free anymore, you will be charged 79$ after 3 months.

    • Laura

I just signed up….was wait listed earlier.  I got the 3 months free but its $79 after that.

    • Emjokedz

I was able to sign up just fine!  Thanks!
