I wish someone (anyone) would have told me … SLEEP when the baby is ASLEEP.

    • Ashley

I am expecting my first — so everything is new to me!

    • Beauwolter

I wish I would of know how many diapers and outfits babies go through in a day!

    • Catheirne

One thing I wish I would have known is how to change a squirmy baby. :-)

    • Anonymous

I wish I wouldn’t have bought so much clothes. I had things left that he never wore.

    • Couponing Momma

I wish someone would have discussed when I should pump with me prior to being sent home with the baby.  I did not fully understand that you use or lose it… PS.. just found out today that we are expecting Child #2!  My hubby has no idea yet..going to tell him on Christmas.  Just trying to figure out a cute/original way of doing so.

      • Missriza

You should buy one of those big sister/brother shirts for your daughter/son and give it to them as a gift, so when your husband sees it hopefully he’ll figure it out :). Babies R Us sells them, but you might be able to find something similar at any of the other stores.  Congrats!

    • Shelley

A lot of the “essential” baby toys and things are used for such a short period of time, so borrow or buy used what you can!!(then you can have money leftover to buy the real essentials like diapers, wipes, etc!)  They are nice to have, but some of those things like bumbo chairs, pampasan chairs, activity mats, tummy mats, exersaucer, jumperoos are use for only 3-4 months at a time and they cost soo much!

    • Missriza

I wish I would have known that the first night would be the hardest night of my life…getting use to no sleep, breastfeeding aches and pains, all the labor pains, but it was all worth it for my three little ones.

    • Faith

Wish I had known that baby blues are NORMAL. :)

    • Kim

I wish I had known how much fun listening to “baby talk” can be!

    • Katiemusic

I wish I had known that it was OK not to LOVE every single second… that it is still work and not LOVING every minute of the tough times doesn’t make a person a crappy mommy.  :) Just being honest…

    • Erin G

I wish someone had told me the IMPORTANT must haves to put on the registery. I got a ton of clothes, but very few diapers, wipes, feeding supplies. I guess I just got caught up in the “cute” baby items and forgot about the essentials.

    • Lauramartin1023

I wish someone would could tell me how to wean my 14 month old. Never thought it would be so hard.!!!!

    • Warren

Wish my wife would have put more diapers and wipes (different brands and sizes) on our registery

    • Jessica

Everything is helpful to me since I am expecting our first to be here in April. :)

    • mw5kiddos

I wish I had known how fast they will grow up!  Mom to 5 and wanting more!!!

    • Janice

I wish I would have known how quickly my babies would grow up!

    • Kelly at View Along the Way

Wish I’d known how hard the lack of sleep would be, but that this too shall pass!

    • angela

I wish someone had told me it was okay to think life was awful for a couple months.  I was normal!  It is awful to be so sleep deprived and feel like my body was not my own anymore!  If I could have just accepted that was normal to feel, I would have basked more in the special, miraculous, wonderful moments even more.

    • Carolyn

To play more and worry less!

    • Candace

That they are not babies for long!

    • Jess

I wish I would have registered for more necessary stuff- got so much clothes & blankets but not a lot of the stuff I really needed.  Now I only give the necessary stuff at showers.

    • Estacey77

Wish I’d known all as much about breast feeding as I do now-things would have been much less stressful.

    • Ashley

I wish I would have known how many diapers babies go through. I would have stocked up more.

    • Katiea813

I wish I would have know that a newborn requires very little “stuff” when you first bring them home. There is no need to buy everything all at once before the baby gets here :)

    • Sandy565

Always stock up on diapers! You can never have enough!

    • Dix

I wish I had not let the doctors worry me unnecessarily about slow wait gain! I knew my babies were okay, but I still let it get to me–ruined quite a few months that way!

    • Kelly

I wish I had more consignment stores around for my first 3 children. My last son has gotten way more stuff because I can afford more thanks to these stores.

    • Susan H

I wish I would have known more about breast feeding.

    • Carriearmywife

I wish I would have known to sleep! I always wanted to stay awake and ensure that my newborn was okay… I may miss something if I would have slept! Now I know that I am a better Mom when well rested!

    • Brookey52

I would find it helpful for the babies series to offer samples and coupons for baby products.  That would be awesome! :)

    • Pugcrazy

I wish I had known that a clean house is not as important as playing in the floor with some blocks.  Kids don’t remember that the house was spotless, but they do remember Mom sitting in the floor being silly and giving them her full attention.

    • Monkzardo

I wish I’d known to ignore a lot of the baby items the stores claim you need.

    • Anonymous

I wish I had known how many diapers a newborn goes through!

    • Jasgirl30

I wish I had known how many pictures I would end up taking- they grow so fast! I would have bought a really nice camera:)

    • Pollard1184

I wish someone had warned me about stretch marks. It wouldn’t have changed anything but maybe I would have been able to reduce the severity of them.

    • Sarah

The formula feeding section looks helpful to me, as we are adopting our first baby.

    • Jennifer

I wish I would have know more about breast feeding.

    • Melissa Cole

I wish someone would have told me how complete my life would be. My son has filled our home with so much LOVE and now with baby # 2 on the way we couldn’t be more content with life : )

    • carrie

Everyone told me that for the first few months I wouldn’t get any sleep. I thought “I can handle this”.  I knew it, but it is not until they get up every 3-4 hours to eat regardless of how long they were up previously.  They get up regardless of how tired you are.  And you have to get up and be ready to take care of them.  You love them so much, but you are so tired.  I knew it, but I guess I really had no idea how tired I would really get.

    • Heidi

I guess I can’t think of one thing…I know that no one could tell me how much my life would change for the better and the unconditional love you could feel for your child. This is only something a parent can know. Even when you’ve had no sleep and they are screaming at 2 a.m. you still love can’t imagine life any other way!

    • Esyke623

We are currently expecting our first baby– I wish someone had told me how terrible the nausea would be . . . and that “morning sickness” is a misnomer– it’s all day sickness! :(

    • Amanda

I wish I had known that it’s okay to ask for help! Being a new mom is overwhelming, and getting a little help here and there is perfectly OKAY!

    • Allinole

i wish I realized the true lack of sleep I would have

    • Elizabethdriver21

That gravity and bowel movements dont always work together!!

    • daylily

I wish I had known that babies can start teething at 3 months.

    • Tindall08

I wish someone would have told me  just because you ask for help doesn’t mean you aren’t a good mother.

    • Taylorsgirl9

Wish I would have not wasted money on the things I thought a baby would need but really doesn’t! Also, time flies by with the second one!! We’re so busy with our everyday lives and also our 2 1/2 year old, my second baby is already 6 months old and I have no idea where the time has gone!!! So, my advice would be to make extra special time with your second!

    • Cmwh2i

I wish someone would tell me how to put a bow on my babys head! She has no hair!

    • Luvisaverb1

I wish I would have listened to everyone about babies and their gas. We had to go out and get a bunch of gas drops. Come to find out, Walmart had generic gas drops for like half the price. We live and learn.

    • Danaldrman

wish i knew about extended rear facing.  iwould have bought a different car seat

    • CJ_Mom

I wish someone would have warned me how much you really have to rely on your partner.  Between lack of sleep, crying, feeding, etc., I am glad my husband ignored me when I told him I would handle 90% of everything.

    • Pierina

I wish I had known that everything doesn’t have to be perfect: clean house, outfits, meals, etc; as long as everyone is feeling loved.

    • Lianna

I wish I would’ve known how fast it would go by!  My baby is 3 now and it seems like only yesterday…

    • Jogmommy

I wish I would have known that “two hours between feedings” includes the first hour it took to feed the first time!

    • Anglsweets8

This is my first pregnancy, so I’m excited to learn about all of the different things related to her at whatever age she is!! You get everyone’s opinions that have “been there and done that”, but it’s nice to have expert opinions at your fingertips!

    • Susan

I wish I’d have know the true “must haves” vs. the things that “would be nice to have.” Due to space, we ended up not using some larger items with our second child, and I realized I could have EASILY done without them for the first. (That’s probably not what Walmart wants to hear though!)

I really like how the site has an area about diaper challenges and about changing diapers. Seems like a really educational site.

I wish I would of known how much work and responsibilities there is  to care for a child/children. My mother always said, “Wait until you have kids on your own, you’ll know what I went through.” I have my hands full with 3 children with ages close to each other and still wonder how she did it with 11 children…

WARNING— 2 is TOUGH…  Love my girls but they are a hand full…

    • Angelamona

Wish I had realized how quickly they grow up and I think I’d have cherished those times more!!!

    • Krittenmarie

I wish I would have known that 6 hours of sleep broken up into 2 hour spurts in NOT the same as 6 hours all together.  It does make a difference!

    • Jennifer

I wish someone would have told me to take it all in and keep a list of the things that make you laugh and smile…this way you can read them when you are at your wits end.

    • I wish I had known how much stress a new baby can put on a marriage.  I have 3 kids now and went through a rough time after each baby.

    • Raniahs

I wish I would have known how demading they were and the attention that they constantly need…was unprepared in this regard!

    • LThompson

I learned that sometimes you just have to let them cry.

    • johnstka

I wish someone would have told me car seats expire- would not have bought one off craigslist.

    • Adriane

I wish someone had given me an instruction guide on how to cut fingernails the first time.

    • Crystal

I wish I would have known not to try to be Super Mom. Cooking, cleaning, feeding, changing…all on no sleep…trying to make everyone happy and forgetting to take care of myself. Every new Mom needs some time for herself!!!

    • Shenelled

9 months doesnt seem long enough..

    • Zelda08

I wish i had known babies grow up to be teenagers….LOL!!!

    • MamaG

That I should have rested while my newborn was sleeping between feedings!  I will never have that chance again with #2!!!

    • Ginger

I’m 24 weeks pregnant with my first baby and really want to know what things you really need and which ones you can do without.

      • Six Quivers

:- ) I have six children…you don’t need all the newborn receiving blankets, one for the car and one for in the house is plenty. You want one piece outfits for bedtime with the little feet…but you want them to button down the center or zip down the center…it is a pain for them to go down the one leg!!  You will need about 3 packages max. of newborn diapers and then they are off to size 1’s.If you plan on breastfeeding, still get one set of Avent baby bottles..occasionally, there might be one night in those first few weeks where the baby just cannot latch on properly, it is ok to try and use a bottle with water to get through the stressful time and then try nursing again…The first three weeks are the hardest nursing and then it gets better. Put your babies in a larger diaper at night than what they normally wear so that you are not having to change a diaper in the middle of the night that way you can nurse them and get them back to sleep quicker ~~~Feel free to email me more specific children, I’m 44 and just had my 6th in August dono7685 AT bellsouth DOT net

      • Jessica

Everybody will tell you something different. There is a book (it was purple a couple of years ago, but they update pretty frequently, odd rectangular shape) that does review on baby products, but also tells you the basics of what you need, no fluff. I used it to register and it was great! For the life of me I can’t remember the name of it though..If I remember it, I will let you know.

    • Joey Bryan

I wish I would have known that all babies have their own timetables and not all babies acheive the same milestones at the same time.

    • Julie

I wish someone would’ve told me to have professional newborn photos taken. It would’ve been difficult to go to a photo shoot, etc. but I think it would be SO worth it to have those photos to cherish forever.

    • April

I wish I would have known that the first few months they are taking, taking, and taking but that after then, they start smiling and responding and it makes it all worth while!

    • Tropicsungirl

I wish someone would have told how much I really would want my mom around to help!  I had no clue how much I would need her.

    • Katie

I wish I would have known how exhausted I would be!

    • Kim hansen

I wish someone would have told me not to compare my baby and their development to others!

    • Tatyana

Probably how attached I would be to my baby-girl and how fast she grew.

    • Angie

      Having Babies and Kids means…….
You will never be able to go to the bathroom by yourself anymore! No matter if the are playing nicely with their sibling or sleeping. The moment you sit down, they will be standing there or wake up.

    • kim hill

how they group up but you are still their mother

    • Beth

      They never sleep!

    • Jamie

I wish I had known even if we did everything “by the book” to get our son to sleep through the night… it could still be after he was a year old!  Hopefully our little one coming next summer will just be a great natural sleeper:)

    • Anonymous

That time passes quickly and to treasure each second

    • Andrea

Sometimes newborns look like they’ve got the shakes, but it’s just their nervous systems working out the kinks. I thought something was terribly wrong with my son when his arms or legs would shake for no apparent reason. Then someone told me that as long as it stops when you hold his arm or leg, there’s no reason to be alarmed. And he outgrew it within the first month.

    • Becki

I wish someone would have advised me of the postpartum differences when you have a c-section vs. vaginal delivery.  Most of the education you get when you’re pregnant is for vaginal delivery/recovery.  There are some major differences and only once I started educating myself did I realize that I was “normal for a c-section mommy.

    • I wish I would have known that I didn’t need EVERY little thing that they make especially for babies. Like the swing that my son hates, the infant head insert that doesn’t fit into our car seat, the sleep positioner which has been deemed unsafe….etc, etc. Do your research and read reviews on items before purchasing/registering.

    • Katebres

you have To sleep when they sleep

    • Jburks

Hovering over your child will effect their independence. It’s OK to let your baby cry for a few minutes here and there. Otherwise your children will want you to fix every little need :)

    • ashley

You don’t need nearly as much baby stuff as everyone (all the stores) think you do.

    • Jessicabaggett1987

I wish that I knew how much they woould change my life. I am a different person than I was before I had my son. Much more selfless. I am no longer the most important person in my life. My son is!

    • Couponchick30

      How fast they grow up!

    • Swall

take naps when they do…everything else can wait!

    • AudraB

I wish I had known that it’s okay to let them cry sometimes.  I got up for every whimper with my first and about lost my sanity in the meantime.

    • Igot5ltlboyz

I wish I would have known how very, very fast that precious time goes.  :)

    • ParentInTraining

One thing i wish I would have known (although there are many things), is the importance of resting and preparation before your child actually arrives. Before my daughter was born, I worked 2 jobs, 7 days a week and 70 hours a week up until the day my daughter was born, and now that she’s here I still don’t have the opportunity to sleep. She’s worth all of the long nights and short naps tho!

    • I wish I had known more & felt more confidant about choosing cloth diapering when my son was born, but we got on track with it within 5 months and have loved it & never looked back since! It all worked out for the best really because 2 years later we’re having our 2nd child just in time for my best friend to hand-me-down her newborn size diapers from her daughter she had this summer (since we never got newborn size the first time around). Great timing!

    • Jamie

That they grow up incredibly fast and change so much everyday!

    • Rhonda Sml

How much I took eating for granted…I would have savored nights out with my hubby

    • ANGELA DRIGGERS

I wish I had known to take more pix…u never have enough!

    • Stormy

To enjoy time for yourself, even the small things like showering become a luxury with a newborn.

    • chrystal bachmann

I wish I’d lknown that it’s okay to let them cry sometimes!

    • Pandabear

Best advice ever given to me was to not keep a quiet house while the baby slept so it would learn to sleep through anything.

    • How fast they grow up and to enjoy every minute.

    • HM1968

That there is no other love like the love of a child and seeing their eyes light up when they see you is something no one else can ever do to you.

    • timschick

To not worry AT ALL about the condition of my house or the amount of dishes waiting to be washed.  ENJOY the baby!

    • Cel9000

That you can tell your doctor no… don’t let the doctors and nurses persuade you into things that go against your body and nature.

    • Pete_pipe

I wish I would have known that by contacting Similac, they would provide coupons that help with the cost and sometimes even cover it!

    • BrookeP

I wish someone would have warned me how hard that first month was going to be, but it was worth it.

    • Charity

I wish I would have realized how precious EVERY MOMENT is!  To slow down and enjoy the small stuff!!!

    • Sandra

I wish I had known how quickly babies go through diapers – I would have stocked up more before he was born :)

    • Arlene

I wish I would have known to enjoy every min. because it flies by.

    • Jessica

I wish I had known that I only needed loads of diapers, wipes and medicine.

    • Peggy Warnock

Letting them cry  is not always a bad thing.

    • Cindy3springs

I wish I would have asked for diapers as gifts…soooo many diapers

    • Allison

I wish I would have know how much jar food they eat. I made baby food with my second one, and it was sooo much more affordable (and healthy to boot).

    • Cherrycookin

I wish I would of know how super tired I was going to be and to the point of hallucinating due to lack of sleep :) !

    • Unc_kristin

that no matter how much you try to read, get advice from others, or prepare yourself for a child….you will never be ready.  just take it one day at a time, enjoy every moment because if you dont you will look back and hate yourself because time flies….learn to laugh at the things you cannot control and give yourself a pat on the back  because raising a child is tough yet fulfilling.

    • Jen

I wish I would have known how hard it is to get them to sleep through the night if you always jump to their rescue at the slightest whimper.

    • Bsurfergirl

I wish I had known how much food to feed him when he started eating solids…it always feels a little like a guessing game!

    • Eyes1227

I wish I would have known how cheap diapers can be if you use coupons.

    • blaire

well, this isn’t about babies exactly, but i wish i knew how to use coupons when we were expecting our little one. i would have LOVED to have a stockpile of diapers before she was born. I had no idea you could get diapers for SO cheap at cvs! and well…i guess how many diapers they go through at each stage… :)

    • Lindsaygreengirl

We are expecting our first in May 2012 and love gathering help from others who have already walked the path before us! We know we will not be perfect parents, but we want to be as prepared as possible!

    • Amber

I was given this advice with my 1st, but I wish I had listened then!: sleep when the baby sleeps! Laundry, cleaning, food can wait!

    • Amy

I wish I knew how hard it was going to be to leave my baby at the hospital for 10 days.  I didn’t feel like she was mine, I felt like she belonged to the nurses in the NICU.

    • Jessica

I wish somebody would have told me the amount of stress a new baby can bring to your marriage.  That first year of baby was rough!

    • Dixiegirlinafrica05

I wish I had known to use diaper/wipes/formula coupons with my first baby!!!  We spent a fortune on her.  I just had my 3rd baby in 3 years, and this is the “cheapest” baby we’ve had yet.  ;-)

    • Juliagoldieday

I would love to win! I’m expecting my third and its hard to remember what the first was like 8 years ago! I wish I had known how wonderful being a mother would be!

    • Mommy

I wish I would have known how to prepare my heart for the years to come…the magnitude of love, the worry, the extreme devotion…well, I suppose nothing but being a parent for the first time can ever perpare you for that.

    • Melly

I wish I had known more about couponing before my first baby!  I am on my third baby and and finally learned how to get good deals on things and save big money.  Who needs full price?  Who needs a sale?  I can get even better than that now totally with the help of blogs like this one.  Having a baby doesn’t have to break the bank!

    • Rhondaa31

I wish I had know how FAST they grow!!

    • Candace

I wish I would have taken more naps before I had children.

    • Assilem7477

I wish I would have known how to survive on only a little bit of sleep and a lot less income!  Maybe these baby step videos would have helped too!  Mom of a 3 year old and 9 month old.

    • Six Quivers

I wish someone would have said that you need a supply of about 8-10 washcloths that first few weeks after the milk comes in….because you need them to stuff in your nursing bra when you sleep at night and your milk is overflowing…change them out and then put in a new supply make sure they are nice thick ones, you will not regret it….waking up with sopping wet pajamas is no fun!!! :-)

      • Sarah

One of my 3 must-have pieces of baby equipment (along with a Miracle Blanket and a Nose-Frida) are these marvelous silicone breast “pads” called Lilypadz.  They actually invert the nipple and keep you from leaking at all!  Best of all, they are washable, so you can use them over and over again!

    • Anonymous

i wish i had known how fast time would go, i look at my 11 yo and it feels like i just brought her home from hospital yesterday

    • Soss336

I wish I would have know to stockpile diapers and formula when they were on sale and had active coupons.

    • happy

That you could use the Similiac manufcatuer’s coupons at warehouse clubs like Sam’s and Costco.

    • texasmom

That not all babies are “sleepers.”

    • Miranda

i wish someone had warned me about exactly what a bad diaper was! SSHHEEEWWW!!!! i never knew something so tiny could smell so big!

I wish I knew how much everything will change from work to my family to my marriage, etc. Being someone who doesn’t do change well, it was an eye opening experience.

How many diapers we were gonna go thru! LOL

    • Meredith

I can relax and not be Mrs. Perfect! Also I love getting a bunch of paper products before baby is born (we are about to do so for this one) and just using that for a couple of weeks (ie, no dishes). :) M

    • Wowformisty

Not that itd change my mind, but i wish i had known how much it would hurt my heart when my baby is in pain. 4 days after he was born we endedup in the er from dehydration. They had to poke him 5+ different times before they could get a good vein AND DO A SPINAL TAP. My heart hurt so bad, I nearly threw up. My one and only baby so far, 3 yrs later.

    • Mandypoo

I wish I would have known how much you save by buying with coupons!

    • That they require round the clock care, even taking a shower takes time coordination!

    • Cdcoffellx3

I wish I would have known about cloth diapers with my first two!

    • Robin

I wish I would have known to teach my babies to fall asleep on their own as opposed to walking them to sleep in my arms.  These are sweet memories though!

    • sandra

That they grow up too fast.

    • Six Quivers

Maybe get him and ivy plant or a flowering vine that you can plant in the yard…and put the scripture with it….your wife will be like a fruitful vine and her “children” will rise up and call her blessed……

    • Julie

I wish I would have taken people up on their offers more to help.  I tried to do a lot myself.

    • I wish I had known that it is really the toughest job on the planet.  No sick days, no days off and no rest!  But it is SO rewarding!

    • ericswifeowensmom

I wish I would have known how wonderful they really are. Maybe I would have started my family a little sooner:)

    • Myerse

I wish I had known that I wasn’t going to have a date night with my husband for months at a time, so I could have “stock-piled” per se before my first little guy came along.

    • jen

how different one child can be to the next

    • Sarah

I wish I’d educated myself more about birth with my first child.  Although I don’t feel it would have altered the outcome of his necessary emergency c-section, I felt so powerless in the hospital because I didn’t have a clue about what was going on.  Did a ton of reading/research after that and had two successful homebirths with a midwife.

    • Barbie

I wish I would have taken the extra steps at bed time b/c now that he is 3 1/2 years old, he STILL wants someone to lay with him & sleep all night with him. It’s getting SO hard

    • Eva

That they go through diapers very quickly.

    • Jwtaylor2000

I wish I had had more breastfeeding support and education with my first child.

    • ENGLISH_CHRISLEY

I WISH I WOULD HAVE STOCKED UP ON THINGS I WOULD NEED FOR BABY AND HOUSEHOLD ITEMS BECAUSE ITS HARD TAKING BABY PLACES. NO MORE RUNNING IN AND OUT OF STORE…

    • Babylynn25

What wouldn’t I have wanted to know. Two kids later, with the third on the way and I still feel clueless sometimes!

    • Jsings115

I wish I would’ve known how tiring they were, but the rewarding part makes up for it!!

    • Sarahbeth1210

Hmmmm…I don’t think there is anything that can prepare you for a newborn baby!  Each one is different, but they are truly gifts from God!

    • Anonymous

I wish I had known that I wouldn’t be able to remember every cute little thing they did. I should have written more down. They grow & change so fast.

    • Scflores

i wish i had known that you can actually function on little to no sleep for many, many days at a time:)

    • Nicole

How much they cost to take care of. I love my son more than anything, but he had three surgeries and money is tight. Yes, I also never new how much money we would spend on diapers.

    • Fondiejoy

I wish someone would have told me sooner that you need to point little boys’pee-pee’s down when you change their diapers.  My son peed through all his clothes the first few weeks we were home with him until someone shared this information with me :)

    • Hsuree

That they need feeding and changing every two hours.

    • Anonymous

I wish I knew about MOBY wraps (and other wrap carriers) – so much more comfortable than the backpack-like carriers you find in stores and my shoulders and back don’t hurt when carrying a baby with them.  Very nice to have now.  :)

    • Srichardson15

That they don’t care if you are sleeping and exhausted when they are hungry =)

    • SenoraLo

I wish I would have stock piled before I had my daughter. I wish I would have known how fast I was going to go through supplies.

    • Jessica

I wish I would have known the Target’s formula is sooo cheap. I went for a while giving my son Similac (using coupons) before I discovered that Target’s formula is wayyy cheaper than Similac even when using coupons!

    • Lorap7

How much fun and work they are.

    • lovely lady

That all babies don’t sleep through the night by the time they are 6 months old! :O)

    • Bethany

I really don’t wish I had known anything else before having kids.  There’s a reason why you start with a baby.  They grow with you and learn as you do so the whole situation’s actually pretty flexible.

    • Rachaelhaden

I wish I had known to rotate the way he slept on his head so he wouldn’t have gotten a flat spot!

    • Christine

I wish I would’ve known not to buy soooo many clothes because they outgrow them so fast…and to buy clothes at consignment shops.

    • Padawanlearner

You don’t need half of the baby stuff on the market – baby stuff takes up way too much space!  I’d still use gift cards, etc., to buy diapers!

    • DancerLady

I wish I had known how much laundry was going to pile up from all the messes!

    • Firstbrownie

I’m expecting my first and I am learning a lot from these comments! I hope I can be stocked up on diapers before he/she comes! :)

    • Catherine

I wish I had known how very different two siblings can be.  We have one good eater, one not.. one good sleeper, one not.. and I’m expecting #3.  Can’t wait to see how different this one will be from the first two!

    • MamaC

Before my boys (ages 10 and 11), I wish I had known the extreme love a mother can feel for a child.  Now that I am expecting our daughter, I already anticipate the full spectrum of emotions that come from the first time I see her and beyond.

I wish I would have know about super couponing when I was buying all those diapers. I used coupons but would always buy daipers at Walmart. Oh how I could have saved had I known then what I know now…..Now I still buy diapers but give them as shower gifts or to my friend who is expecting baby #3.

I wish I would have known about the swaddleme wraps…my sweet baby girl could not be put down to sleep on her own until six weeks in my pediatrician suggested buying one…it was a miracle worker!  Totally different from just swaddling with a blanket but not really sure why:)  I did enjoy all of that cuddle time though!!

    • Amyb

I wish I would have known to sleep when the baby sleeps. I didn’t do this when my now 4yr old daughter was born, using her daytime naps for housework and errands. I was so exhausted all the time! When I had my son 2 yrs ago I made sure that if he was sleeping, I was too!

    • sharon simon

I wish I had known how quickly they would grow!

    • rose

How hard it is to recover from 36 hours in labor with a C-section to boot.  No one warned me about how hard a C would be. :(  But, once past that I could handle it!

    • Jeana86

I wish I had realized how fast they grow up. My two children are now 25 and 23 years old, yet it seems like just yesterday they were babies.

    • Alexisboster

I wish I had know how important schedules are! Routines are vital especially around nap/bed time. I wish someone would have also told me that I have to finish everything away from my home before 6:30 because once it’s my daughter’s bedtime….we need to be at the house!

    • HeatherGman

I wish I knew more about babies digestion track

how much stuff you really end up needing

    • Beth

That they can seriously deprive you of sleep!

    • Margie

I wish I could have told my new mom-self that I was GOING TO make mistakes and fall down sometimes while I learn to be a mother. Those are words every mom needs to hear.

    • Vallyandsally

It is okay if you cannot breastfeed.  You are not going to do harm to your baby.

    • Linda

I wished I had known to exercise if possible when I was pregnant it would have helped with my first one but we live and learn!

    • Mcollins5

How to deal with Reflux.  UGH!

    • Daniel Carter

I would have wanted to know to take it easy. My babies don’t have to be super scheduled. They grow up way tooo fast so enjoy them. I would rock them a little more to sleep

    • sara

Wish I would have known that i didnt need all those “cute but useless in 2 months” items on my registry, now im expecting my 2nd and all i am asking for is diapers!

    • Harman Jessica

to introduce the bottle BEFORE six weeks…

    • Aperez1223

I never knew how hard it was raising children and all that was involved, but more importantly I didn’t know how rewarding children would be!

    • M_lee55

      To sleep when they sleep!!!

    • Katrina

To understand you will not sleep for at least a year and you will worry constantly just accept it and you will do fine

    • Jennifersanchezobama

I wish I had stocked up on some sleep before he was born lol

    • Sswafford

I wish i wouldnt have been induced at 39 weeks. We live 1.5 hours away from the hospital and i thought it would be easier to be induced. My son has been sickly since he was little. Let nature take its course and wait.

    • Ashley F

Wish I had known how to take some time for myself!

    • Lu_German

I wish I would have known that I did not need all of those new born baby clothes. My boys are not 3 and 5 and I still have boxes full of barely worn clothes that I am attached to and no longer need. They grow up so fast!

    • Lauren

#1- Wish I had started couponing sooner! Diapers, etc. would have been so much cheaper! #2- To sleep anytime the baby does. It was not always easy to do that!

    • Michellem621

I wish I had paid attention to how good breast feeding was for a baby. I did not have a desire to breastfeed, and my son was very gassy on formula. It is too late to go back now. Though I do enjoy that my husband is able to assist with feedings.

    • Wcushelley

Stick to the necessities.  You rarely see a recall on a simple baby item.  It’s the complex and expensive stuff that turns out to be a hazard.

    • Erica

how many diapers they go through

    • Ashley

Wish someone would have told me how to breastfeed!

    • Andy Albright

As a soon to be new mom, I think that advice on watching the baby instead of the clock while feeding is good advice.

    • southernrach

I wish I had known that they could explode…from both ends! I never anticipated how many burp cloths or diapers I would need.

    • Riakleveta

How fast they grew out. Of clothing would have spent more time in resales shops

    • Wanda

I wished I had known how much they would cost and how much you could save with couponing. I knew nothing about couponing when I had my first child.

I wish I knew how fast time was really going to fly by! Everybody tells you but you don’t realixe it until its too late. Enjoy every minute of your little ones because it seems like they grow overnight.

    • CatBlue

Would have wanted to save time and $$$ by knowing about your Best Baby Deals.

    • jaqueen

One thing I wish I knew about babies before having my first is how interesting potty training a boy can be.  If it was not for my husband’s “life experiences” it would have been a hopeless situation being a female and teaching my first boy child how to use the potty….some great memories but, what an experience.

    • Annabel

I wish I would’ve know that swaddling too tightly could be a possible cause of hip dysplasia. I would’ve checked to make sure he had enough room when wrapping him up. Oh well now I know one more thing to watch out for when I have my next baby.

    • Megster77

would have liked to know how to get cheap diapers and formula like I am getting now.  I fed/diapered 3 children on full priced items.  Now the 4th has nearly free diapers/formula.

    • CRJ

How hard the challenge of breast feeding was if your baby doesn’t naturally latch on.

    • Sophia

I wish I would’ve known that you can’t spoil a newborn by holding them to much. I wish I would’ve held my babies way more!!!

    • Crozetcouponlady

Before having my first child, I wish someone would have told me the REAL things you need to register for…not the cute stuff that you’ll never use!  Every time I look at some of those items I registered for that we’re not using with our second child…I see dollars that I could have used on diapers!

    • Joseline1982

I wish i would of known how important and that special bond that you create when you breast feed. I just did not have enough information.

    • Darla

That they truly DO grow up much faster than you realize.

    • Bspears51207

Regardless of how much time I want to spend with my son, that it is okay to have a Mommy day. In the end it makes me a better Mommy to not lose my cool, because I have had that Mommy day to refresh and recharge.

    • JulieP

I wish would have known that you don’t have to pay full price for diapers!

    • Gail R

I wish I would have known that alot of what you need for a baby is the basics and all of the latest and greatest is not so great most of the time.

    • Jennydeyarmond

I wish I  would have known how many diapers 1 baby can go through in a day…oh my!

    • Melissa Papenfuss

I wish i would have know that they my baby want be mad at me if  I let her cry it out. I wish i would have done is sooner. I probably would have gotten more sleep.

    • Brittany1m

I wish someone would have told me that even after 18 years old they still ask for money!

    • Connieb03

How many diapers they can go through in a day!

    • Cgoodman73

I wish I had known that the minutes I get into a hot bath or sit down with a hot plate of food my child will suddenly need me for no apparent reason.  LOL

    • Karolyn

I wish I would have know how fast my son would grow up, and that even though I was able to stay home with him from the time he was about 6 months old, that still would not slow down the time.  His babyhood still seems like a blur.

    • bugaboo

I wish I had known that its easier to just go with the flow. I watched a bunch of t.v. shows where the moms had it together and thought thats what I had to do. I know now when I have a newborn to let them sleep when they want

    • Becky B

I wish I had known that it is a lot of work to get them into a good sleeping schedule.  This is especially true when you’re nursing because it’s tempting to just let your little darling sleep in your arms instead of putting him down in the crib.  The problem is that if you don’t resist this urge, you will end up with an adoring baby who wants you to be with him all the time.  (And by all the time, I mean ALL THE TIME!)  I obviously learned this the hard way.  I love my little admirer but it makes it hard to get anything else done when your little guy cries every time you put him down or leave him with anyone.  It’s especially hard when he looks at me with those puppy dog eyes that say “Please pick me up.  I love you!”  He has me wrapped around his chubby little finger. :-)

    • Kutiekt

Wow, where do I begin.  That you really don’t need so much “stuff” for babies. The essentials work just fine.
Routine is so important and getting off the routine only causes more headaches later on!

    • Tsmith8966

I wish I would have known the importance of breast feeding as my daughter had acid reflux and that would have been better for her!

    • Cmbwest

I wish I would have known to really cherish and take advantage of the time before the baby arrived with my husband. Date nights are few and far between now.

I wish I had known more about nursing so I could have stuck with it longer

    • Jen

I wish I would have appreciatedmy mom more.

    • Laura S.

Mother-to-be, I like the information on changing a diaper. Also, the comments below are very helpful.

    • Teaguewoman

I wish I had known this website!  Nothing could have prepared me for how much I would love my babies! Now I understand how my mom feels about me and my sisters!

    • Alicox29

Literally how much savings are obtained just by using coupons!! I see people walking around a store with a big box of diapers and no coupon… oh the horror!! I just want to stop them and explain the saving they could have if they just did these couple of steps.

    • Lexdssmsw

I wish I had known more about food allergies, especially milk (including breast feeding while excluding milk products).  That combined with severe reflux made for a challenging first year!

    • Carmen S

I wish I would know the secret to getting babes to sleep an entire night

    • I wish I would have been told more about Colic.  My first one had it bad and I thought it was my fault that he was crying so much.

I wish I would have known about constipated babies.

    • Carolyn

I wish I knew about truth about what you really need.
Baby Bath .. I ended up using the kitchen sink nor than the bath.
Bottle Steamer .. always over heated the bottle so I used the microwave.
Wipe Warmer .. It didn’t fit on the changing table and would dry out the wipes.
Cute outfits.. For the first six months they spend more time in sleepers.
Dreft .. way to expensive. All free and clear or purex baby are just as good.

    • Sweetheartface

I wish I would have known how expensive having twins and two other children would “really” be

I wish I  would have known that I highchairs were such a waste.

    • SelahsMom

I wish I had started using coupons while I was pregnant to stock up on more diapers before the baby was born.  I also wish had had spent more time during my pregnancy reading about newborns than reading about being pregnant.  After she was born I felt rushed to catch up on all I didn’t know about feeding, swaddling, shushing, rocking, etc.

    • Mary M

i wish i would have known that  diapers can be really cheap, buying toys on websites with swagbucks is a great invention, and most importantly to spend as much time with them as you can because they grow up toooo fast and just cleaning the house everyday is not worth missing out on plying with them

    • Danita25

I wish I would have realized the precious time I had with my husband before babies that I won’t get back for a long long time :)…

    • Teri

I wish I would have known how to make my own baby food before my first child was bord.  I would have asked for baby food storage kits at showers.

The one thing that I wish I knew wasn’t before my first but before my third! I wish I would have known what I was getting myself into having a boy lol! My girls were so calm and didn’t destroy things but my son is a whole other story!!!

    • Cathy

I wish I would have know how little sleep I would get and how crazy and unpredictable my daughter’s schedule would be.

    • Muscproducer

I also wish I had bought more things at consignment stores. So much cheaper.

That you really don’t need all that “stuff”! So much of it is a waste of money!!!

I wish I would have taught my baby how to fall asleep independently earlier on. I didn’t realize that it’s something that babies have to learn.

    • Ywx17

I wish I know how little sleep I would have

    • Amber

I wish I would have learned to wait 10 minutes after my baby poops so I know that he is finished and not get poop all over myself, the carpet, the wall and the dog. Oh the joys of motherhood.

    • Jlovebzyscoupons

I wish I would have pumped sooner.  I was full of milk it caused me so much pain that I cried (almost worse than delivery (all natural)).  Everyone said to wait a couple weeks.  I finally broke down & pumped just a little off and what a relief : )

Oh, and I wish I knew that I should do neck exercises b4 baby was born.  I had a lot pain due to looking down so much at my precious angle : )  of course I didn’t let it stop me.

    • Kim

I wish I knew to be prepared for the sleepless nights and crazy schedules! Babies have helped me realize how selfish I am!

    • Barbie1032

I would have like had more info on diaper choices.

    • DH

I wish I would have listened more to my own instincts vs the over load of information others were sharring. I felt like a fish out of water planning and learning what everything was, but once the baby showed up, I had things under control!!

Wish I’d read Baby Wise with the first one a little earlier.

    • Vudoswing

I wish I would have known about couponing before my first. I am pregnant with my second (seven months along) and I already have a nice stack of nearly free diapers. In regard to the Walmart BabySteps – it would be nice to get timely coupons and samples…

I wish I would have known more about saving money with coupons. I started late in the game with coupons with my first son but in full swing now with the second one on the way (29 weeks and counting…lol!!!)

    • Brannum_marsha

My first pregnacy was with twins…2 beautifl healthy little girls, so i took all the advice I could get…anything was welcome.

    • ahill

I wish someone would have told me how awesome it would be.  I had now idea you could love someone so much.

    • Amy

Wish I would have stocked up on formula before my baby arrived. I was a breast feeding mommy, but that changed.

    • kcroxburycoupon

How fast they really do grow! I would have taken more pictures!

    • Mayra

    • Byron C.

I wish I had known how fast they grow up.  You can never have enough memories…..

    • Little A’s mom

it’s ok to not have that “instant love” for your baby.  It took me a while (about a month) to truly fall in love with my girl…but ever since then my love for her has grown each day…your feelings are your feelings…nothing is wrong with you…everyone is different

    • Mackenziechester

I wish I had trusted that eventually we would hit our stride…  And being a mommy would be easier and a joy.

    • Kcnicole1

I understood that my little one would probably wake up every 3-4 hours the first few weeks.  However, I wish someone would have told me that it would be take 30 minutes to an hour before he would go back to sleep.  It was a rude shock to realize that I would only get 2.5 to 3 hours of sleep at a time.

    • Kelly McDaniel

Things change every 6 weeks it seems with a baby.  If you are struggling remember that this too shall pass.  And, you will feel closer to “normal” when baby is 6 months old.

    • Ceasterling5

That they grow up so fast and no to sweat the small stuff.

    • Anonymous

I was fortunate enough to have had A LOT of experienced moms in my life when I had my first…perhaps TOO many..haha!  But the one thing I wish one of the wise women in my life would have told me was….when changing a baby boy’s diaper, make sure to point his little pee bug down in the diaper when fastening the diaper back up!!  I would have saved many loads of laundry, both his AND mine, had I known this BEFORE he was 3 months old!!  HAHA! =)  But, I guess they wanted me to figure some things out on my own.

    • Phairplu

I wish someone told me that their bm(s) could change color according to the food they eat.  It sure was a surprise when my first had a purple bm! i called my mom and she laughed and said that is what happens when you feed them beets!

    • jen r

the one thing that everyone knows…enjoy every moment…it goes so fast no matter how hard we try to slow down the precious moments!

    • Amanda

I wish someone would have told me how much in love I would be. Its a love you could never explain until that love comes along. My heart melts when I see that smiling face:)

    • Eshanel21

I wish I would have known how expensive they are!

    • Nchoneybee

I wish someone would have told me to find some way to volunteer (at home or take the baby with me) to transition from full time work to stay home mom. After I started doing this (and as he grew) I felt more like a productive member of society!

    • Ltrotter8518

I wish I had known to put him in our bedroom at night the first 6-8 weeks. We didn’t with our first, but put the cradle in with us for our second, which was SO much easier during the night!

    • Emily

That sometimes (not always, but sometimes) it’s best to trust your instincts rather than other’s “helpful” advice.

    • I wish that I had known to relax…hee!  But from the video, probably to test out to see if a diaper is too small by doing the ‘fist’ test b/t the diaper and baby’s stomach.  Will do this with my second little one, now 10 months old! :-)

    • Wendy

If you have a baby who doesn’t sleep, make sure you sleep when they do!

    • Drydendi

I wish I would have known that I wouldn’t use half of the stuff I bought!  There are certain things that are needed and that is all you will ever really use :-).

    • Rerdmann2

That they did NOT come with an instruction manual. Jk. I wish I knew that breast feeding was a task that I could have overcome. My first child was on formula for most of her first year. My second one was breastfed the whole 12 months. Yeah!

    • Shelley Hunt

To really sleep when they do!

    • Seastman14

      How fast they really grow!

    • Linda

I wished I knew that a humidifier was a must have…we found out while our first one was sick and throwing up constantly…it was a nightmare….having a humidifier made all the difference in the world.

    • Kimissweet83

Being a mom is definitely a 24hr 365/day job whether you have a partner or not. Most days it’s rewarding; some days a break is definitely needed.

    • Sarah

One small thing I wish I had known was how amazing Hyland’s teething tablets are for babies.  I did eventually discover them with my firstborn, but not until after the first few teeth came through!

    • KP

    • Lynn

I wish I would have known how to function without sleep!

    • SLPLaurie

that while breast milk is the best, it’s ok for your baby to drink formula, don’t feel bad or guilty if breastfeeding doesn’t work for you.

    • linmin26

can’t wait to use these tips for when I hopefully get pregnant next year!

    • frances

Wish I had known more about making breastfeeding work.  Great for babies & budgets!

    • Inflower

I received a microwave bottle sterilizer with my third. No more boiling water for me. Also learned with the second that powder formula doesn’t require heating. And with the first I learned that I wasted so much money on toys they never play with.

    • Jenn Marie Earle

I wish I would have known more about breastfeeding, and how to keeping doing it and how to pump and store.

    • Hazie

I wish someone had told me not to worry so much about cleaning, and doing chores as much as just enjoying playtime and cuddle time and fun time with my first baby. I finally figured it out though.

    • Vandahms

Wish I would of known just how fast time would go by! I would keep them a baby longer, if it were up to me.

    • Pawstoreflect

I wish I would have read more about premature babies, mine was 6 weeks early.  No time to read after he arrived.

    • Jen

I wish I had known what to expect from them when they have ear infections.  It took me months to figure out:(

    • Mel

Enjoy them, they grow up so fast!

    • Tara

I wish I would have known that I would give up my whole life for four wonderful sweet babies!

    • Angela W.

I wish I would have listened to everyone when they said “sleep when the baby sleeps.”  It’s so true!  Housework, etc. can wait, but getting that rest is so important.

    • Beckyroo17

My first baby is due in three weeks.  I wish I knew what stuff I have that she will like and what is unnecessary. :)

    • I found the baby steps video about finding the right diaper very helpful!

    • I wish I had known the absolute necessities. There are so many new gadgets and accessories that you really dont use! OH, and SHOES!?? They grow out of them in weeks! You really only need socks until they start walking.

    • Cheryl W.

I wish I had know more about how your life changes completely around your child for at least 18 years. And then you still worry!

    • Caroline

I wish I had known that my little one was going to eat every. two. hours. for six weeks straight.  I was one tired mama!

    • Erickandjen

I wish I had known how different each child could be.  I have two wonderful and completely opposite girls.  I love them so much!!

    • Windi Foster

I wish i had known not to worry about “developmental stages” so much.  Each baby is different, and one may not walk for several months after another….in the end they are both walking and very intelligent.

    • Karyn

I wish I had been told to take more pictures

    • Camc555

      The amount they sleep.

    • vbmint21

How quickly I don’t fit into my regular clothes. I had to shop for maternity clothes sooner than I thought I would. Getting dress for work in the mornings has been painful too!

    • Carla in PBG FL

I wish I would have understood nipple flows on all the bottles. It was a real learning curve the first time around!

    • Beth

How quickly the time flies and to enjoy them while you can!

    • marylee

i wish i would have taken it to heart that these days go by much too quickly.  everybody tells you,  but when you are in it – you can’t see it.  would have never laid those sweet babies down for even a second!

    • Luns777

I wish I would have known that Destin has some sort of fish oil in it and it DOES NOT mix with cloth diapers… had to throw out some of my diapers- so much for trying to save money!!

    • Apuckett524

I wish I would’ve known not to compare my baby to others.

    • Hasims

I wish I would have known that as long as my baby was having plenty of wet/dirty diapers, she was getting enough to eat.  I gave up on breastfeeding her way to soon because I was so worried she wasn’t getting enough to eat!

    • Bgwhite57

I wish I had read that poem, dust and cobwebs can wait til tomorrow for chidren grow up much to our sorrow…there is nothing more precious than spending time with your children…

    • Jessica

      Potty Training would be helpful

    • Eshe33

I wish I had known that is you wrap them in a receiving blanket while bathing them and only uncover the part you’re washing, they won’t scream their little heads off! It makes them feel safe a secure and bath time becomes MUCH more fun!

    • Nan

I wish I would have known how much life would change – but I think you just have to learn that… no one can explain it to you!

    • Jennifer

With a Walmart gift card, I could maybe finish my Xmas shopping for five daughters!!!

    • Rach_momof4

I wish I would have been more relaxed with my first. Everyone says do this , don’t do that, let them cry it out, don’t let them sleep with you, etc, etc.. I learned to trust myself and follow my babies cues, and by my fourth child, I had a much happier baby (and mama!)

    • Luv4grizzlies

I wish I had known how much some of them spit up.

    • Jennifer

I wish I would have realized how hard it is raising kids…especially girls!!

    • Jtpointer

I wish I had someone say to trust you instinct as a mom instead of letting others, even doctors to convince you otherwise.

    • Feliciarenee86

I Have 4 Children one 7 yo,5yo, 13mo. and a 2 month old… And i WISH i would have known about COLIC. Two of my children had/has this. And it gets VERY tiring.. lol.. and i know it hurts there little tummys so much// just have to hold them tight for a cpl hours everynight at the EXACT same time…

    • keri

I wish I had known that my husband didn’t like changing diapers.  Haha!

    • Jessica

I wish I knew that it is ok if you can’t breast feed.  If it just doesn’t work, don’t be so stressed out, your child will turn out just as smart and healthy as any other child.  My baby lost weight and had to stay in the hospital extra days and I was stressed of course and the whole time they were coming up with crazy ideas and set ups to get my baby to breast feed instead of suggesting we give her a bottle with formula until she was able to do it on her own.  She is totally healthy and is ahead of other kids her age and all on formula.  While I would have loved to be able to breast feed and not for a lack of trying but we were not able to.  We bonded just fine and my husband could help out on those middle of the night feedings haha

    • Hperryesq

i wish i knew how fast they grow.

    • Hperryesq

i wish i knew how fast they grow.

    • Aprilmh1628

My sister is due in April and this would be great for her to use to buy diapers, she is sure going to need them!

    • CC

I wish I had known that a baby’s cry isn’t always a bad thing. Also, that a baby has to learn how to sleep through the night. If you always pick him up when he cries, he can’t learn how to sleep on his own.

    • Sarah

I wish I would have known not to spend money on the silly things like a wipe warmer or a bouncey bath thing…. I always warmed the wipe by squeezing it first and she liked to be in the actual tub… lol.   Next time I’ll spend my money on things like… clothes!!!

    • amy

I wish I knew how to slow down the hands of time…

    • Chass

I wish I would have known how fast they grow up.  very sad- miss the baby smell…lol

    • All4yeshua2

I wish I would have known to slow down and enjoy them more while they were little.

    • Jessica

It would have been nice to know what we really needed and what we really did not need when preparing for baby.  So many things out there to buy it can be overwhelming.  All the different diapers and wipes, swings or bouncy, stroller or travel system, crib or bassinet, etc.

    • Kahinton

I wish I had known that My guy was going to love being on the floor and that there was no need for the swing, exersaucer, or bouncy seat!

    • Happymommy742

That babies are super tough, so don’t stress so much!

    • tltusin

I really panicked that I knew nothings about babies, even after watching videos, reading books, and the baby inquisition(when I asked everyone I could about baby knowledge).  But when Allie was born, it was all true…God just told me everything was okay and I just knew what to do by instinct.

    • Iamrichlyblessed

I wish I would have known how tired I would get of being pregnant!

    • sc

it’s okay to let them sleep in the swing all night!

    • Lynne

      Every baby is different!!

    • Pkak

As a first time grandmother, I am re-living the joys and fatigue along with our daughter. Her husband is deployed and won’t be back for about a year. So….her daddy and I are helping out as much as possible. I forgot about the sleepless nights! LOL But thoroughly enjoying the time we have with our grandson!!!!!!!

    • Brenda

Wish I had known that I would need my Mom to live close by to help me.

    • Jessica

I need a list of what is necessary for our first! There are so many things to think about, like what kind of stroller you need, or safety of a car seat, and what car seats you can use longer than others, etc.

      • Tristansmommy120910

I’m assuming your asking for input. My son was in a infant carseat for only 4 months his weight was about to exceed the limit. Then I bought a carseat that held up to 30 pounds thinking ok that will last awhile WRONG! He ended up being to tall for it once he was 11 months. Now we bought the safety first alpha omega elite. It’s rear and forward facing 5-100 lbs and im in love with it. Wish I’d of know about 3-in-1 before hand. The infant carseats are nice to use with a matching stroller to just snap it into. But think you’ll definitely get your moneys worth with a 3-in-1. I found mine at burlington for $100 but sighned up for their email and got a 20% coupon so it ended up being $85 after tax (this is just a bit more then your typical infant carseat) Hth.

        • Tristansmommy120910

Almost forgot. Consider a 3-in-1 crib also. Paid $200 for ours and will last many years. Crib to daybed, to toddler.

    • I wish I would have known how hard the first 3 months are!!

    • Studyalldaypartyallnight

wish we would have known that the 3-6 months clothes only lasted a week and so forth…. (clothes were never taken off the hangers:(

    • I wish I would have known how much formula costs.  :(

    • Coovertribe

My first child is 16 now, but I wish I had known more about breasfeeding.  I only
breastfed for 3 months with my first one.  The rest I have gone for 12 – 15 months..

    • Theaikenparrs

I wish I would have known to remind myself more often to not sweat the small stuff and “this too shall pass”

    • beem2004

You’re actually pregnant longer than 9 months!!

    • Prettylil2lt

I wish that I had known that I need to enjoy each day and not “wish” my baby to roll over, crawl, walk early.

    • Beth

I wish I’d known how quickly they grow up

    • Manar Aide

I wish I would have known the proper way to introduce solid food and reduce nursing at an appropriate age.

    • Lyndacoupon

I wish I had known not to make her formula using cold water from the fridge. She threw up the entire bottle about 5 minutes after finishing it! Then my brother-in-law explained to me that infants don’t tolerate cold items. We warmed all bottles after that!

    • AmyQ

I wish I new how to introduce solids (and the appropriate time) to my little one. She’s 14 months old, and is still mainly on formula/milk!

      • Tristansmommy120910

This may sound weird but have you thought about adding solids to her bottle? I did this with my son since he had acid reflux and needed thicker formula. He has never had a issue with taking solids. But maybe this is worth a try?

    • Ant0288

how to keep breastfeeding longer while having to work.

    • Smurray1277

No matter how many books you read when the time comes you will still feel unprepared to leave the hospital

    • Heather

I wish I had known to ask for help from LLL for breastfeeding when I had so much trouble with it.

    • trudi

How nervous I am about everything! This is our first and was totally unexpected.

    • keilah

I wish I had known how bad teething is/was!

    • Anonymous

I wish that I would of known how to coupon before having my son because I would of have a stockpile, and wouldn’t need to worry about how to get diapers or any baby supplies.

    • Michelle

how to swaddle … never figured it out

    • Beckymagic

That I know nothing! First one due in April!

    • Kmleopold

I wish I’d learned couponing/stockpiling sooner.  It would’ve been so nice to have stocked up before the baby came so that I didn’t have to make so many shopping trips!  (Sorry for those I duplicated, I just peeked and realized we have the same answer!)

    • Shelly

My baby is 7 months old.  So I am excited to hear about this.  I am sure that I have tons to learn.

    • Amanda

I wish I had known I wouldn’t get to use the massive amounts of clothes I bought and received as gifts in sizes 0-3 months

    • Kristy Miller

I wish I had known that its okay to make mistakes as a new mom.  The baby won’t die if he gets fed an hour late!

    • Rachel Shaw

I wish I had kept up with her baby book better. Now she is 23 and a mom herself. I keep trying to remember the little things that she did and at what age. It really is true that you can’t recall things when you get older.

    • Matt

i wish i had known how much better store brand diapers were than huggies!

    • Sheenabsb

Wish I had know more about diapers and brands, wasted so much money!!

    • Maryannpsmith

Keep things simple..and enjoying loving your baby. Don’t get lost in all the work.

    • Eibeachbabe

I wish i had known not to waste my money on a baby bath you can hold them when they r that small and they dont use it long at all

    • Hapyshoper

I am due in 14 more weeks with my first child and I wish I knew everything! I can’t wait to learn and this programs sounds cool.

    • Kim N.

I wish I would have known how to burp a baby! That took some time to figure out.

    • Kristen H.

I wish I had known that babies aren’t as fragile as they look; they are resiliant and love their moms and dads in spite of our mistakes!

    • wendy n.

I wish i had stocked up w/ diapers, diapers & more diapers…there was always an extra trip to town!!!  4 children later, you think we would have learned…we love our 4 children and look forward to growing older w/ each one of them!!!

    • Carol

Wish I had known how tiny babies tummies are.  I tried so hard to put my baby on a 4 hour schedule and she needed more frequent feedings.

    • DianaY19

That everything is just a phase. When my daughter would only nap for 30 mins at a time from newborn to 1 year (and the books all said she should nap 1-2 hrs) I stressed myself out unduly.  Every issue,problem,stress-maker, etc. will pass.  It really helped once I realized that.

    • Anonymous

I wish I would have known to start trying to teach sign language young so they don’t cry as a meaning for everything when they get older!

    • Stephanieswalker08

I wish I would have known that you become hyper-sensitive to every sad/scary/horrific story about something bad that has happened to another child. Makes you worried about the safety of your own.

    • childressj

I wish I had known about the “time flys” and to stop worrying about the little things that happen and enjoy that sweet baby before he is grown!

    • I Cooki

I wish I would’ve known how to calm them. They are always crying and loud!

    • EAC

I wish I had known the little tricks that nobody tells you.  Baby oil on the head to fight cradle cap, rubbing the earlobe to help the baby sleep, store brand detergent is better than name brand, etc.

    • Kellib

How intense the love is that you can have for another human being…

    • Jessi56

My first child, who is 5 month old, had colic for first few months (wish I was prepared for that phase!) and went from that into teething (already has 2 bottom!). I wish I could have been more prepared on those two things…and much more to come I’m sure, so this would be great!

    • Fallaya

I wish I had been more prepared for my baby’s colic.

    • pat

I wish I had known that although parents can influence their children, children are born with specific predetermined personality traits.  I am so thankful to have an easy child (who frequently surprises me with her frequently changing new found interest – so unlike mine or what I imagined we would enjoy doing together.

    • WENDY

I wish I knew that babies “fought” sleep! I know the baby is tired, the baby knows she’s tired–but she is forcing herself to stay up! WHY!! lol

    • Kei2448

I wish I would have known that when your tiny baby gets sick, it is officially the scariest thing that will happen to you..

    • Leah

There is no one right way to do things.  Each child is different and you have to figure out what works for them.

    • Shellibass

I wish I had known that I needed to separate the tiny rolls of fat on my daughter’s neck in order to clean it.  Well, after two weeks of not knowing this, my god mother noticed that she had all kinds of lint and dirt in those creases.  I felt terrible.

    • Kara G.

I never really knew how much I was going to love my daughter! You can never be fully prepared! Every new. Thing is an experience and a great one at that!

    • vanessa

i wish i could have known how hard it really is to be a young mother, (My mom made it seem so easy raising 3 girls!!). I’m 23, and my children are 2 and 4. I feel like me and my boyfriend of 6 yrs are doing it all backwards.. Having children, buying our cars, home buying, then hopefully marriage when we can afford it. I wish i would have known how hard it really is. But god blessed me with 2 beautiful boys and at the end of the day, I wouldn’t change a thing.. We would be lost without them!! oh and how baby’s usually have their days and nights mixed up!

    • Couponeagle11

      How to handle colic

    • Munk2323

I wish I would have know to start a journal when we got home… the first few weeks are really a blur! I started when my sweet son was about 10 weeks b/c I realized how fast it goes and the little things that are so amazing that happen daily as they become little people (something as simple of he “reached” for his toy on his swing!)

    • Clbolt69

Wish I had known how much I needed to sleep when the baby slept !!

    • Jaylene Scott

I wish I would have handled the sleep situation better!

    • Bawade2000

I wish I would have known not to stress out over every little thing.

    • Caroline

I wish I would have known that I really did know what I was doing.  You always doubt yourself but what you are doing is probably the best thing for your baby.

    • Clothing that has snaps and doesn’t have to go over a babies head is much easier to handle.

    • Pecanrattie

I wish I would have known that my sons would grow up to be my best friends.

    • Brittneysterner48

I wish I would have taken seriously the whole sleep when the baby sleeps part, but its so amazing that no matter how little sleep I got, each time I saw my sweet baby boy, all I could do was love on him and hold him. As he has gotten older (now 6 months) he has become more chunky and I have to make sure I clean and dry his little folds and neck creases because he got a small infection in them :(

    • I wish I would have known the sacrifice, that from the moment you look into your new babies eyes and he grabs your finger, and latches to your breast that your life has been turned upside down, side ways and all around. That from that moment on, you would do anything for your baby, no matter what the cost to you, and I knew from that moment forward that I would be the best mom that I could be.

I wish i would have known what a wonderful young woman my daughter was going to become. She is 19 and i think wow and i use to question to myself with all the decisions i had to make as a mother.  She has made me so proud!!

    • Anonymous

Trust your gut. You know your baby better than anyone else. Though other well-intention individuals give you advise, go with your gut. Momma knows best! Love those little ones. They grow up too fast.

    • 5higgins

I wish I had know just how sleep deprived I would really be.  I would have slept the last 3 months before delivery!

    • Sarah Mcintosh

With 3 kids 3 and under and one on the way I wish I would have known how handy a diaper pail would have been! Hopefully I will be able to get one with this baby! ;)

    • Lauren

I wish I would’ve known how little baby’s need. We bought way too much stuff.

    • Moore1759

Oh my goodness I wished someone would have told me about all of the things/stuff that you would have to clean up, wipe up or catch in your hands.

    • 2stokleys

I wish I would have known how little I would be able to get done in a day!

    • AshleyE.

We just brought our new baby girl home after spending a month in the NICU. We also have twins at home…I wish I had known how hard it would be to care for a preemie with needs and take care of the twins…and keep the house going as usual…

    • Windermarie

How hard it really is. Having a baby is really hard. Your whole life changes. I was 15 when I had my first. I was so scared that I was doing everything wrong. Now I am almost 27 and I have two more beautiful children. I would not change anything! It is very hard raising a child, but in the end it is so worth it. I would do it all over again, maybe wait til I was 20 or so to have my first. So very thankful God has given me 3 precious, healthy children.

    • Bre9238

It takes an entire day to fold one load of laundry!

    • Shannonwells

You always hear how fast they grow, I wish I would have relaxed with my first as I have with my second and third in regards to other chores. The laundry along with everything else will eventually get done. But I will never get those moments I was “too busy” for a story back. I now enjoy every stage a little more.

    • Tammyla

How tired I am. No one can prepare u for the exhaustion….but it’s worth it when they smile at u

    • Viv

Being a new mom is just as special as having a new baby!  Enjoy your glow, your changes, and your new feelings.  That’s what I wished someone would have told me.  New Mom’s are very special too! :)

    • I’m expecting in January. We’ve been taking childbirth classses but haven’t had a lot of education on baby care. The videos are a huge help! I really thought the video about what to pack in a diaper bag was helpful…it’s a simple thing that I hadn’t even thought of yet. Thanks WalMart!

    • Nikkidelois

I wish I would have known that nobody gets it perfect.  It is a series of baby steps that we take along side our children.

    • Breich

Your house will never be clean again.  Love the kids, not the crumbs.

    • Amy

That disposable diapers are much easier!

    • Doris

I wish I knew how important it was to put my twins on a schedule as soon as possible.  I was told by friends but didn’t realize the importance of it for my sanity until they were a year when I got my act together…

    • Lindsey Beckham

I am reading all these comments, and clicked on this particular ad because I am expecting my first child. Apparently there are a lot of things that everyone wishes they knew, I just pray I have the ability to get through each day with my child (a little girl, due in March!)… and as far as Walmart goes, I am going to watch these videos and hope to get something out of them, but most of all I am thankful that they are open 24 hrs in my area for those times I need to go out and get something whenever I get the chance! I suppose after about 3 more months I am going to have my hands full, and I can’t wait!!

    • Chelsea L

I wish someone had told me how bad breastfeeding hurt! Shocker!

    • Siaulisa

I wish I had known that it is okay to ask for help…..it doesn’t mkae you a bad mother.

    • Ashley

You can never be perfect being a parent

I wish I had known the importance of breast feeding with my first child. I’m expecting baby #3 at the end of June. =)

    • Prestonlms

I wish I would have known how to get her to sleep through the night or at least just a couple of hours at a time! lol

    • Ana Maria S.

I wish I had known that you really don’t need all the “stuff” people tell you to register for…by my second and third I knew what was essential and what was a total waste of money ;)

    • A Baldwin

Wish I had known to stock up on diapers ahead of time.

    • Anonymous

I wish that I had made my daughter go to sleep by herself. It was so tough to break the habit of her needing to be rocked to sleep.

    • Shari

It’s ok to call people in the middle of the night if you are at the end of your rope. We didn’t with the first one and it nearly broke us!

    • Brandi

Newborns are slipperly little buggers during bathtime! Breastfeeding is a learned task by both mom and baby but the effort put forth is totally worth it!

    • Purplecrayon1970

I wish someone had told me to sleep when the baby is sleeping, the housework can wait.

    • Olivefamily3

Don’t register for so much stuff because you don’t need it.

    • DSTPUNKY

People always talk about the expenses of diapers and wipes but no one told me how expensive daycare was.

    • Shabonias

I wish I had known that it doesn’t make me a bad mom if I have to ask for help.

    • Theluvsong

Let the baby go to sleep on their own… mine still needs me now to go to sleep and he is 4. I still love our time together. Before I know it he won’t need me anymore.

Hormones can make you do and think crazy things! :)

    • While I had been told this, I wish I had understood how truly quickly those baby days pass!

    • Tina Dover

I wish I had known that some babies do not take to latching and breastfeeding no matter how hard you try, how bad it hurts when the milk comes in and you have to pump, and that feeding a baby a bottle does not make you a bad mom.

    • Tristansmommy120910

I wish I’d of known more about the “risks” (that noone tells you about)of putting your baby on their back to sleep. My son at 4 months after 3 xrays 1 ct scan was diagnosed with plagiocephaly and torticollis. After 3 months fighting with insurance we finally had to pay for my sons cranial helmet oop (almost $3k) and 6 months of physical therapy he finally looks as close to normal as possible. To all parents if you notice your newborn favors laying/tilting their head to one side please don’t ignore this. Talk to your pedi. We didn’t even notice how mis shapen my sons face was until we held him in the mirror. All of this plus acid reflux and a very rare medical condition my son has and no doctors can even tell me about it because its so rare and a new finding. It’s been a very long hard journey. But I kept fighting. A Walmart gift card would mean soooo much to us.

    • Thepierces

I wish I had known how easy it would be to stay at home if I just put my mind to it.

    • Tammyjnim

There is no shame in sleeping with your baby, if you do it safely and correctly.  And your baby will eventually learn to sleep on their own.

    • Anonymous

I wish that I’d known more about colic and how to deal with it…whew, I am so happy that my baby and I got threw it!!!

    • Katy

I wish I would have known that the bottles with the drop in liners would save me so much time and hassle. I was so upset about the film that the breast milk and formula would leave on the other bottles. I was constantly scrubbing and boiling them. Still they never stayed clear always looked cloudy. Then we tried drop ins and it’s amazing!! It feels so much more sanitary. I know I will need to plant a forest worth of trees to offset my carbon footprint but I’d rather do that then watch my child drink from a bottle that just doesn’t set right with me.

    • mammamia

To trust your gut.  You know better than anyone else what your baby needs.  I doubted myself many times with my first baby and of course the answer always turned out to be what my gut was telling me to do, but I was too scared to rely on it.  I hope I do better with the second.  (Due in June)

    • Seema_skumar

I wish someone gives you a clear answers for all your anxieties, fear and many questions about becoming a first time mom. Also all your doubts about becoming a loving and caring mom you always wants to be.

That you’re not going to do everything perfect and that’s ok.  Enjoy your baby while their a baby.

I wish I had known about childrens consignment sales when my kids were babies. Babies / kids grow so quick and can be so expensive. Shopping at childrens consignment sales can save you a ton of money. And as your kids grow out of things you can consign your families things and maybe make a little money or at least break even and get the next size up for your kids.

    • Anonymous

I wish someone had told me about consignment sales before I had my first child. I could have saved so much money on clothes and baby equipment.

I wish someone would have given me advice for how to prevent and treat diaper rash. My baby had it bad for the first month, then we were able to tame it, but she still always has a mild case.

      • Slocklair

Use Boudreauxs Butt Paste after every diaper change and make sure you find a wipe that baby isn’t sensitive to.  I have found that I can only use CVS sensitive unscented on my little ones tush without some kind of rash popping up. Hope that helps

    • RRBritt

One thing that I wish I know before my first child was born, would be how to effectively save money through couponing. My daughter went through several types of milk/formulas because of her acid reflux.  It was a costly trial and error phase. I am so thankful the issue was resolved, but I often think about how I could have put that money into her savings account.

    • RB

I wish I would have known how much sleep I would lose.  I would have taken more naps!  Every minute I lose is worth it though.  There is nothing in the whole world like my two babies!!  Love them both more than anything in the world!

I wish I would have known that my baby would not need EVERYTHING in the baby section! Some things, like a wipe warmer, are a complete waste.

    • Denamar2

i wish i would’ve known that even though you want to hold them ALL the time, it’s not always the best practice. If you do, when they get to be a couple months old and older, they will never let you get anything done and expect to be held ALL the time.  They need to learn to entertain themselves and develop.

    • I wish I would have known that newborn babies have a crazy sleeping schedule.  I have never been so sleep deprived in my life!

    • Ashley

    • Melissa

I wish I had known that babies don’t need as much crap as everyone would like you to believe (ie. bouncy seat, swing, playmat, etc).

    • Taniafish

The one thing I wish I would have know about babies is how slippery they are when wet. I remember my mother in law telling me that I was going to have to wash my son in the baby tub. I was terrified. He was so slippery and I thought I would loose my grip but I got through it and he came out squeeky clean. Like all things new it just takes a little getting used to. I have three nieces who are pregnant and expecting. There will be babies everywhere again. our kids will grow up together because I have had my kids late in life but I wouldn’t change it for anything. I love watching them grow and discovering new things everyday. They say the strangest things

I wish I would have known about consignment shops with my first one…I could have saved a lot of money then! That was 9 years ago. Our 3rd one (due in a few weeks) was a surprise, so I went straight to the consignment shops to get everything that I need!

    • Stlynn31

I wish I would have kept a journal and written daily all the little things you take fro granted…… My baby, now 17 is expecting our first grandbaby in February….. needless to say she will be getting a journal at the shower.

    • HopeMomma

I wish I knew “they” didn’t write a book about MY baby…. I wish I had known the “right” answer might not be out there… and it’s OK to do the best you can under whatever the circumstances. (I’m about to have baby number 4, so “good enough” MUST be OK.)

    • Cassandrapa

Its always ok to ask for help.

    • Katie

I wish I knew how to deal with everyone trying to tell you how to raise your child…. New moms are very hormonal and when everyone that I came in contact with told me how to do different things…. can upset a new mom very very fast!!!

    • LC23

I wish I had known to ignore the majority of advice people give you. everyone, I mean everyone has an opinion on kids. and I wish I had given more attention to my son’s napping. getting their sleep makes a big difference.

    • Rudy6

I wish I have known more about breastfeeding. My daughter only breastfed for two months. :(

    • Julia

I wish I would have known how to avoid conflict/competition with other moms. It always leaves me feeling inadequate.

    • Abraland

i wish i would have known how to manage my time better.  i would get so stressed out trying to be the best mom and continue a life of a spotless house, making sure dinner is ready, etc.  i really just needed to understand that those things could wait. :)

    • aegaggbw

that no two babies are the same. what works with one may not work with another and that their personalities are so different

    • jessmess

I am expecting our first child in a few short weeks, and reading all of your posts is very helpful.

    • Diana

I wish I knew that it was okay for a newborn to sleep through the night.

    • Drswallace

I wish I would have known that it is easier having the children closer in age.

    • Melissa

I wish I had known that the more relaxed Mommy is, the more happy baby is – it seemed like a vicious cycle with my first baby – she would cry, I would cry, she would cry harder…;o)

    • Savannahcouponshrink

Expecting my first now…wish I had known how much there is to learn before I got so tired!  It is going to be a busy 8 months, but I am sure the Baby Step tips will get me started.

    • Kern101103

I wish I would have known more about time management and priorities.

    • Brandy P

Wish I would have documented in her baby book more than I did.

    • Sdabney25

I wish I could manage time better .

    • Denise

The site has some interesting info on potty training.

    • Charlene

I wish I would have relaxed more and just had fun. I love my boys.

    • Jennifer

All the advice on the series is very helpful

    • mommaofcrazypants

Each baby has been a totally new learning experience. They are so alike in many ways and so different in others. My daughter would eat anything and sleep right on through the night where my son does the exact opposite. Just roll with it, and enjoy it. They don’t come with user’s manuals, they are sweet little people with their own personalities and identities.

    • Calmond5

New moms enjoy every special moment with your baby. They grow so fast.

    • Couponqueen8205

I wish I would have known that you have to modify your sleep habits around a new baby for the first few months.  My son ended up training me very well.  Now that I’m a grandmother with twins grandsons, I can give better advise and help to my daughter-in-law, while my son is deployed overseas.  It’s true when they say two hands are better than one.  The better to rock those lil ones to cleep

    • mrcouponer

I would go with potty training, we have a 3 year old that is potty training but our 2 year old is just starting! Fun times!!

    • Sarah

I wish I had known that it was far more important to just sit and enjoy each moment with my baby than to quickly establish a routine. Time goes so fast!

    • llb

Wish I would have realized how fast time goes and to slow down and enjoy every moment.

    • Kristy

I agree with many other comments: slow down and enjoy it all! Time goes so quickly and before you know it they will be grown. Mine are 3 and 1 and it has flown by!

    • Lejane84

I wish that I would have known more about breastfeeding.

    • Tleisten

I wish I would have known about coupons. Sure I used the occasional diaper coupon or formula “Check” but it could have saved me TONS of money!!! Now I tell every new mom I now!

    • Bjessa

      Allergies to milk!!!

    • Brenda K.

A lady at my church asked me weekly,  “When are you going to have a baby?”.  At that time it was a painful question.   It was a few years before I finally got pregnant with our first.  I wish I had known then that we would ultimately be blessed with 7.

    • mandylovesmath

I wish I would have read Baby Wise before I had my first child . . . maybe he would have slept through the night before he was 7 months old!

    • Bills_chic1999

i really wish id know how quickly they grea out of clothes! i wouldve spent less on outfits that she never got to wear :)

    • Saraarwen

I wish I had known that babies aren’t completely still when they’re asleep! I kept picking up my sleeping baby before I realized he was just transitioning into deeper sleep!

    • Caszos

I would love a gift card, I wish I had known how quick she would grow and how sad it would be when she’s sick!

    • Anonymous

My mother was right. Do not baby talk. They are like sponges. You have an advantage when they are babies. You have a captive audience. Cleaning, shopping,or in the car. Sing, talk, abc, numbers and rhymes. You will be surprised at how soon they start singing or chiming in. Remember do not forget to share those coupons with a new mom and this site. She will learn about how to make her money stretch.

    • Couponsforheather

How to put that child down and deal with a little crying to get them to transition to the crib vs Mommy’s arms.  I nursed and spent the first five months sleeping in a recliner with my child.  I hope I will not repeat that for the one on the way.

    • AmyAck

I wish I would have known how much love a child brings into your heart….I would have had children earlier in life!  My daughter reminds me to slow down, enjoy the littlest things, laugh often, and be way less serious.
She’s taught me so much in her 3 years on earth about becoming a better person and becoming VERY patient / understanding about
life’s little obstacles that may come our way!   Life is short and fast…enjoy it!Baby #2 is on the way….looking forward to utilizing Walmart’s Baby Steps program as a reminder! :)

    • B_j_adkins

I wish I had learned more about c-sections and not given in so easily. Also that ultrasounds can be up to 2 lbs off so don’t have surgery just because you “might” have a big baby.

    • RAN

I wish I would’ve known about consignment sales as I was shopping for baby stuff for my 1st – wow! What a wealth of goodies they have for such a great steal!!!

    • Ken

To enjoy the time with them more.

    • Blairford

That I didn’t actually have to do so many doctor’s checkups, vaccinations, ect from my children.

    • Holly

I wasnt couponing when I had my first child 7 years ago….that would’ve saved me a ton of money.  Glad now that I have 4 to have gained knowledge in this area…thanks for your help in saving with our family budget!

    • Megan

I found the “What to do with a squirmy baby during a diaper change” to be a helpful video.  Thanks!

    • Brdcow30

I wish I would have known that couponing for diapers was a great way to cut costs and signing up for free samples is a great way to get diapers as well.  I wish I would have known that babies are picky eaters and that it’s basically trial and error when it comes to feeding them.  I wish I would have known motherhood is so rewarding.

    • Alex Porges

I really wish I had known how wonderful each day is with my beautiful girl! Before I thought it would just be all work. And yes, it is for sure, but she is really the sparkle in my eye! :-)

    • Vlanning

I wish someone would have just said “it is okay for them to cry”.  I had twins and it took several weeks for me to not feel guilty if one was crying while I was trying to help the other one.  It is just their way to communicate.  Once I realized this – life was alot better.

    • sweetmelissa

I wish I had know that “accidents” could travel up the back of a diaper especially when your little one is in their car seat.  Ugghh!

    • TFrank

I wish I would have been couponing then….diapers, wipes and formula were very expensive for us….if i’d only known…….

    • L_jackson427

I wish I would have know that I wouldn’t have any more until they were grown. Oh and yes, I’m still broke!!!

    • Alex

I wish I would have known/been more prepared for the gas! It could have saved me and my first from weeks of discomfort! LOL

    • Mama71fl

that babies are just babies and not everything is a result of something i did wrong, sometimes babies are just fussy.

    • Bathomas11

I wish I had known that babies do not read the baby-care books & sometimes you have to do trial and error until you find what works for your baby.  Then go with it!

    • Alicia

This is going to sound odd, but how to trim fingernails and that there is a difference in temperature depending on where/how you take it.

    • Francomom00

trim their fingernails while they are sleeping

    • Lewkel2000

      Swaddling nursery techniques….:)

    • Esther

Wish I had known that all babies are different — my first and second were as different as night and day.  I kept expecting the second one to follow the same milestones as the first, but he was on his own schedule!

    • Cherpooh2

Man, there are so many things that come up on a daily basis that I say, “no one told me about this.”  But, I would have to say the “one” thing would have to be that labor was not the hard part.  Breastfeeding was the hard part.  Everyone focuses on the labor when they are pregnant and you have the impression that breastfeeding is just this natural easy instinctive behavior. Then when it becomes hard, baby won’t latch, breast are sore, baby cry’s and turns its head, milk supply lessens you get frustrated because no one told you it would be hard.  So when it happens you think you are alone and can’t do it.  But you can!

    • Chasing3barrels

I wish is known how to coupon before kids!!! Lol mag I wish is gotten more sleep when they were sweet lil newborns :) god bless u all :-)

    • Louise

I wish I would have known that sometimes it’s ok to let them cry.

    • There are many things I wish I would of known….trim fingernails when they sleep, that they grow up to fast, to stick with breastfeeding(it does get easier), never be too busy for sloppy kisses and sticky hugs.

I wish I had known that just because you have been blessed with big boobs doesn’t mean you’ll be blessed with enough milk to breastfeed and you should’nt feel guilty about it…

    • Theambereffect

listen to your instinct more than other well-meaning moms, family members, random people, etc. :)
also, being a mom is the most rewarding job, but you are constantly questioning your success at it.

    • Couponer

I have a 10 week old. I wish I would have known to take a change of clothes for me too in the diaper bag. Blowouts can be really messy!

    • Erindurkee

I wish someone could have prepared me for gettting no sleep for almost a year. :/

    • ChristiL

each child is different — sometimes you have to adjust your parenting methods appropriatley (as long as you stick to your core values).

    • Shebella30

I wished I had known that diapers were very expensive and you would need tons of them.

    • Dtcampbell

I wish I would have known that EVERYONE would give me advice and tell me what I should or shouldn’t be doing!!  I quickly learned to just nod and let it go in one ear and out the other…so I wouldn’t hurt anyones feelings!!

    • K2solo4

I just had twins and I also have a 2 1/2 year old. I wish someone would have told me to wait and use my gift cards after the babies are born for all the unexpected things that a baby needs.

    • Christy_hall55

I wish I would have known when the 1st one came how important prayer and devotion time with them needed to be because when the 5th came it was a bigger job to tackle.

    • Laurie

I wish I had realized that once your child is a little older, no one cares anymore about some things that were such a BIG deal. There is no place on a college application that asks how old you were when you switched from bottles to sippy cups, whether you wore cloth or disposable diapers, or when you were potty trained.

    • Gina

I wish I had more been focused on what I would actually need for the baby instead of just how good the nursery looked.

Breastfeeding is overrated and not for everyone.

    • Jmefelix

I wish I hadnt spent so much time killing my self to try and get breastfeeding to work.  I should have enjoyed the first month more.

    • i wish i had known how much diapers i would need!!!

    • Siglinda Smoak

The one thing I wish I would have known about babies before my first was how important the first few years of life are. That every thing we do in their formative years affects the rest of their life  … from the food they eat to the clothes they were. We are shaping their personalities likes and dislikes from the moments they are born. The better we prepare ourself in turns prepares them for a better future. It is nice to see Wal-Mart cares for our future generation by providing a service like BABY STEPS. Bravo Wal-Mart … job well done :)

    • Sdg032708

That you are gonna mess up sometimes.  There is no need to sit and obsess over each incidence.

    • Sunchic27

Control, or loss thereof! That I wouldn’t have spent so much time worrying about controlling everything or having everything perfect, that the blessing of children is just that a blessing and to spend more time focusing on that and enjoying the moments that FLY past!

    • Anonymous

This too shall pass!  (Which refers to the children growing up and also the LEGO’s they swallow)

    • Jacqulineashley

That most of the time your mother is right about everything she tries to give you advice about! Sleep when the baby sleeps, don’t worry about not knowing “how to be a mother” it amazingly comes to you when your baby is born.

    • S Martin297

I wish I hadnt known what it was like to have 2 kids 14 months apart. I rather of gone into it blind!! I’m a single mom and before my 2nd child was born, Sept 19 2011, everyone would tell me what a hard time I have ahead of me. It really stressed me out… I already thought having ONE baby was hard as it is. I love both my chunkas without any regret. It’s hard work but it’s worth every minute of lost sleep, unshowered hair, stained shirts and bags under my eyes. Gods little blessings!

    • Dlbandjeb

wish someone told me not to buy 20 packs of newborn diapers. They will outgrow them too quick.

    • Amoritadyer

When  I was a first time mom I regret working so much I worked two jobs so i wouldn’t have to be on welfare. Just so my son could have everything he needed. I regret working so much that first year is so important they grow so fast and I missed majority of that working. It is best to be financially stable babies are expensive!

    • AnointedSaver

I’d like to see one about babies and allergies.

    • dmr3

You ARE doing a good job! Trust your motherly instinct and you can not love them too much.

    • Courtney Phillips

that they WILL cry, it doesn’t mean they hate you!

    • Amandagracely

Snuggle your baby as much as you want becuase once they start crawling and walking…you miss it. You can NEVER cuddle you baby too much. I promise :)

    • I just wish I had known not to freak about everything right away….babies cry a lot, poop a lot, and (my boys) are always hot

    • Rachel G.

To document everything! They grow up WAY to fast to remember the little things! =)

    • Shawnfullcircle

    • Tina Weaver

I wish I would have realized that every baby is special and different. You should not worry about how your new baby is progressing in comparison to your other children. My first son did everything earlier than my new baby, and sometimes I still find my self making comparisons and being worried about it.

    • amckenz

Wish I’d known to try to keep them from crawling for as long as possible!!  haha ;)

    • Mfshore81

that just because they’re girls, doesn’t mean you don’t get peed on!

    • Felicia Ramirez

I’m 41 now, I became a parent at 15. Up until a few years ago, I heard someone say “It takes a village to raise a child”.

Indeed, it’s very difficult to do alone. I quickly realized the importance of a strong support group of family and friends. Which in my case, there were little to none at that time (family moved away and friends were no longer to ‘be friends’).

No regrets. For we befriended the ULTIMATE friend, our Creator which by His grace got us through it all.

    • Kendra

Don’t really need baby shoes if they can’t walk!

    • Janice9

I wish swaddlers had been available! I just COULD NOT swaddle properly with a blanket and my first baby had colic!! She cried for the first three months until she found her thumb! And yes, we tried pacifiers. We were also told to always put the baby on their stomach to sleep, which we now know is WRONG! (I’m sure you can guess that I am now a GRANDMOTHER!!)

    • Mimilious

Relax…don’t worry about “what if” because your motherly instinct becomes apart of you forever, and you will know what to do with every situation.

    • Mallory

Wish that someone would have told me that it was okay if I didn’t drop everything every single time that the baby made a little noise. :-) That it is okay to ask others for help too.

    • momto2girlies

I wish I would have realized that is was okay to let my 1st babies cry.  I now have twins, and would never have any sanity if I picked them up every time they made a peep.

    • savingmoneyisfun

I was blessed with a baby boy on 10-10-11 he has grown so much since than, everyone says he looks like he is 6 or 7 months old. I have never thought that i would go through baby clothes like i am doing now. As i was growing up everyone told me to wait till your about 25 to have kids cause there so expesive and im only 19 now but with everything going up in price whats the difference from now and than? i had to grow up quick so i was ready to start a family, now people tell me i am a wonderful mother..It’s hard to just let him cry, thats there way of telling you something needs to be done and i sure do go get him right away..

    • Heather

I wish I had know about colic.  My first born screamed and cried for the six months of her life.  When she started to be colicky I freaked out thinking that something was terribly wrong with her.  Nothing made her happy.  Now she is a very happy and healthy 5 year old.

    • anita

I wish I would have let my 1st child cry it out instead of always tending to her right away.  she now is 5 and thinks someone has to watch her 24/7…

Don’t compare your child to the next. My daughter was born with Down syndrome, so it was even harder for me not to compare her to her “typical” peers, but one must remember that EVERYONE has strengths as well as weaknesses. One person may simply have more skills in certain areas than others, but this is what makes us all unique to begin with!

    • Erinp500

I wish that i would have used store brand diapers well before I did.  i would have saved a bundle.  We didn’t start using off brand diapers until my son was 2 and they worked just fine!

I wish I had relaxed more with my first one…understanding I wasn’t going to “break” her if I didn’t do something exactly right.  I stressed out about EVERYTHING, which made her unsettled, which made me more stressed.  Vicious cycle!  No wonder the child never slept!

Definitely how many diapers they’d need — ahh!

That not everyone has a easy time breastfeeding! Some people do have a easy time but for others it requires a lot more effort and if I had know that in the beginging I may not have spent so much time thinking something was wrong with me.

That sitting the baby in his bouncy seat on the running dryer could stop his crying and give me time to take a shower.(Dryer is in the bathroom)
