A week of Christmas giveaways from Southern Savers!

Our week of Christmas giveaways are coming to a close, and we’re still going strong with some fun prizes.  Today’s prize is one of my favorite past times: Cabbage Patch Kids.

cpk

Cabbage Patch Kids are celebrating their 30th anniversary in 2013!  They have a new line of Cabbage Patch Celebration Kids that are dressed to for the occasion with festive, playful, party themed attire.  Always fashion forward, each girl comes with a cupcake comb and each boy comes with a pair of trendy glasses.

Cabbage Patch Kids are still going strong and stretching across generations.  It’s fun to see your kids get excited about playing with a toy that you enjoyed when you were a kid.  Do any of you still have your doll with their adoption certificate?

The Giveaway:

3 Southern Savers readers will each win their own Cabbage Patch Celebration Kid!

To Enter:

Leave a comment below telling me either your favorite CPK from when you were a kid, or which CPK doll your kids are going to love the most.

This giveaway is sponsored by Jakk’s Pacific, but all opinions are 100% my own.

Tomorrow is the big day of Amana’s GIANT giveaway, so make sure you check back for that!

I LOOOVEEED Cabbage Patch kids as a child and I decided this year to get each of my girls one every Christmas in hopes they might keep them around long enough for their own children! It would be awesome to win a new addition for them!

    • Jennifer Boatright

I got my first cabbage patch when I was 18 months old. It was one of the babies. Every Christmas after till I was a teenager, I received a cabbage patch baby or kid. I loved them. I would set them up as a daycare or classroom and I would be their teacher! I hope to continue the tradition with my own children one day!

    • misty

I got my first cabbage patch for my 9th birthday…Her name is Polly. I took her everywhere and treated her as a real child. Thirty years later at 39 yrs old, I still have both of my cabbage patch babies put away but I cannot dare depart with them.

    • Kristin G

My girl would really love any of them!! she loves dolls!!

    • Miriam S.

I loved CPK when I was a kid and would love one for my daughter now! I loved the one that looked like me!

Cabbage Patch Kids 30th Anniversary Holiday Kid African-American Girl with Purple Dress

    • Charity

I got mine for Christmas in the 4th or 5th grade! Still have her!

    • CC

When I was about 7, my parents bought me a talking cabbage patch doll…she would sing and take drinks out of her cup, you could ask her questions and she would answer. She was the coolest doll! I played with her delicately (I took very good care of my dolls) and still have her today…I am in my 30’s! I hope one day to give my niece my dolls when she is old enough and can appreciate them.

    • Jessica

I loved my CPK doll! It had brown hair like me!

    • Keisha Forton Wicker

Too weird, I was just thinking about my favorite cabbage patch doll, and immediately remembered my Preemie (Sarah) that smelled like baby powder. Then I read Gina’s comment below, awesome!

    • Angel Ledford

I received Jessica Ruby for Christmas when I was 5 years old. My parents specifically chose Jessica because I had an imaginary friend by the same name. Jessica Ruby had red cornsilk hair, just like my friend. Ater I received my CPK, my “friend” Jessica went away, never to be heard from again. I would LOVE to find one similar to her to give to my little Daisee.

    • lovesavingmoney

I don’t remember the name of my cabbage patch doll but the first time I changed her outfit and saw the signature on her butt I started crying cause I thought someone had drawn on my new doll. My mom had to explain to me that all cabbage patch dolls have the signature on their butt.

I loved all my CPK’s but guess my favorite was my bald headed little boy named Logan. I took him everywhere with me. My daughter has my bathtime doll now after all these years. She would absolutely love any of these. Hope we win!!!!!!

When I turned 6 I asked for a Cabbage Patch kid. I wanted a girl but since they were so popular they could only get a boy. I didn’t care. His name was Merl. He had blonde curly hair and blue eyes. He wore a green layette. This was a huge surprise for me. I’m pretty sure my daughter would love any of them.

    • Heather

    • Shannon McCoy Hawkins

I don’t remember the name of my CPKs (I had a few) but would love to give my daughter’s one of the 30th Anniversary Dolls. CPKs brought so much joy to me as a little girl!

    • Julie

Oh my gosh! I love the one with the long curly blond hair and the light pink dress! This one reminds me of my youngest daughter with those curls.

    • melsmayhem

I never had a Cabbage Patch doll but I remember working in a toy store dealing with yelling parents and long-distance requests to mail them. My nieces would love one and even my older girls (and guy) would enjoy having a doll that looks kind of like them with dark hair.

    • Jen

I want to get my daughter, Emily, the exclusive Emily Grace CPK!. I don’t remember which doll I had when I was a kid, but I had several and since we live in Georgia near the Cleveland Babyland General, I plan to take my daughter one day when she is older!

    • Nora

My daughter would love the Cabbage Patch Kids 30th Anniversary Holiday Kid Caucasian Girl. When she was younger, we put her blonde hair in pig tails and she would puff her face out and look just like a Cabbage Patch doll. She loves all princess dolls and this one does look like a princess.

    • Danielle Robinette Bangert

I was never allowed to have a CPK :/ its that gift u so badly wanted as a child and didn’t get! It would be something off my bucket list.

    • Lesley Ellis Ferencz

My love of Cabbage Patch kids started when I was 5 years old and I got my “original” cabbage patch doll and many other dolls to follow over the years. Then when I turned 15 I got the pleasure of working at the hospital with all the dolls. I would love to be able to give my child one of these celebration dolls for Christmas. It would be like coming full circle! :) BTW – I would to have a little blonde headed boy doll!

    • Denise

My favorite was the Christmas elf cabbage patch. I was only 5 years old when my grandma died of cancer. I gave that doll to her 1 week before she passed away. It made her very happy. She collected the cabbage patch dolls and i inherited them all.

I still have it and have passed it along to my daughter. I even passed along with my baby clothes and gave my daughter some of her clothes to play with as well. I would love to give her a brand new one that she can love from the beginning and maybe pass on to her daughter one day.

    • Nicole Harms

Oooh, I had a set of twins and one had the special thumb that could hold a crayon. I loved them and thought I was so cool because i had the thumb one. Oh and one of them had a tooth, which was a big deal. They were blond with green eyes, a boy and a girl, and they had these soft velvet outfits. I still have them safely tucked away in my parents’ house to this day!

    • RK

I only had one growing up. Her name was Rosa and she had red hair in a ponytail. My daughter has a few. We love being so close to Babyland General.

    • Sarah Jolley Browning

We love our cabbage patch Gabriel!! I got him when I was 3 years old. My parents stood in line hours just to be able to get one for Christmas for me. I have kept him all these years and he has been our middle child’s doll since he was born. Kyle, who is now 8 years old sleeps with my doll Gabriel every night and takes him wherever he goes! Our youngest son, Anderson, really loves Gabriel and keeps trying to sneak him from Kyle. I would love to surprise Anderson with his own doll. I hope that for Kyle he will always love Gabriel and will be able to pass him down to his own children one day

    • Rachel S.

I still have my cabbage patch doll from when I was a kid and I still have the adoption papers. Her name is Kate Paula and I absolutely loved her. I even have professional pictures taken with her. I cant wait for my daughter to get her first cabbage patch doll!

    • Larissa

Cabbage Patch Cuties for my nieces!!

    • Kessa Englert Connan

I had a CPK preemie. My mom stood in a crowd waiting for the shipment to come out on the sales floor. When they did roll out the door there was a frenzy of women grabbing and snatching the CPK out of each other’s arms. My mom came out with a Preemie that I adored on Christmas morning. CPK are a great memory for me. I know my grand daughter would love one too.

I had 10 CPK when I was little I think the twins were my favorite! My daughter loves the girl in the middle row with blond & pink pigtails. We had to get rid of all her soft babies a few months ago due to lice (yuck!) So this would be perfect for her!

    • Kisha

My first Cabbage Patch was Dodie Nellie, and I had twins named Eva Ginger and Aurora Marjorie. I think the twins were my favorite, but then again, Dodie Nellie was my oldest. It’d be a hard call. (There was a newborn boy, too, but I forget his full name. Teddy something, I think, but he wasn’t ever a favorite. Poor kid.)

    • Tabitha W

Growing up my favorite cabbage patch kid was a brown haired green eyes girl. I was so young I renamed her Laura because Little House on the Prairie was my favorite show at the time. She went EVERYWHERE with me and was my best friend. My daughter would love any doll. She loves to play school with her dolls and love cabbage patch kids. I have a toddler boy who would love a boy doll… he loves to borrow and play with his sisters babies, and she is nice enough to let him usually.

    • Sabriya Reid

I don’t remember the name of my cpk, but I do remember that wonderful smell the new baby had. I had about 3 different ones. Wow brings back childhood memories. My daughter would love the African American doll with the purple outfit! Thanks

My fave CPK growing up was named Hazel. I still have her!

    • JeanAnne Sheffield Gant

    • Lauren Cacciatore

My daughter would love the preemie one the most (since she is one herself!).

I never got a Cabbage Patch Kid when I was little because they were too expensive but I always wanted one. I was CBK deprived. :(

    • Emily

My sisters and I all had a CPK when we were growing up. I had forgotten all about them for my kids until recently! My girls would love all of them!

My brother and I each had our own CPK…I actually had 2. I had a “toddler” named Alexandria and a “baby” named Callie. My brother had one named Timothy Thomas. I wish my mom would have kept them! I’m so excited to see that they are making a comeback! Would love to get one for my daughter.

    • Amber Slater

I still have all my beloved CPK babies, looking back at them I find it amusing that my first was a beautiful girl with red hair and then as I got older and had my own children my first daughter is a beautiful red head! I would love to pass along the love of a CPK to the next generation!

    • Allie Pust

Best babies ever!!! I loved them as a kid. My girls would love any of them.

I had a red haired doll named “Natalie”. We moved around a lot and ended up letting lost but we still have the one my husband had as a boy. His is a bald baby boy one.

    • Joyce

I have my CPK collection proudly displayed in my adult home. I have a blonde pigtailed girl, curly brown haired boy, a yellow Koosah, and two premies, one girl and one boy. Chrissy, my blonde girl, was my very first and still very favorite!

    • laces

I never had a cabbage patch doll, but i would love to have one for the lady who watches my child during the week. She collects Cabbage Patch Dolls and my son would be so exicted to give her one for Christmas.

    • Mindy O’Neill Laesser

When I was a kid, my mom waited in a loooong line for my very first cabbage patch doll. She was a beautiful bald-headed baby who’s name was Elinor. I loved that baby so much… I lived in California at the time, and my best friend Kellie and I would spend a lot of time at Disneyland. We would take our cabbage patch dolls on all the rides, (and were especially careful to hide them under our shirts on the water rides). Tragically, Elinor was ruined when our basement flooded when I was 25. I was devastated… I wasn’t able to keep her dry under my shirt that time…

    • Karen

I got mine straight from delivery at Babyland General! I loved making the trips to see all the different babies! Mine was an original newborn!

    • Mindy

    • can_gilbreath

I still have three cpk dolls with clothes. My favorite was the brown curly headed one. We had matching pajama gowns. Great memories.

    • Kimberly Kovach

I actually liked the pre runner to the Cabbage Patch better-Little People were also made by Xavier Roberts and they were all cloth and bigger. My favorite CPK was a harvest blond haired little girl with braids. Very unusual color. All together my mom and us four girls had over 30 of them!!

    • kristi

i loved my red-headed cabbage patch kid the most but had a ton of them!

    • Atalie Donaldson

My favorite CPK from my childhood was the one that had “real” hair that i could brush!

    • Anna Norton

I had one when I was little, she had blonde hair I remember. I would love for my girls to have one also!

    • Jamye

When my brother was born I was 6 years old. My parents were worried I would be jealous so when they brought him home they brought a cabbage patch home and I loved her so much. So it totally worked. Our house burnt down when I was in 8th grade and we lost everything and that was one thing I really missed was my dolls. If I could get one of my toys back that would be it so I could pass it a long to our new baby girl Elizabeth who 3 months old today.

    • Jennifer

My favorite CPK was Emma Grace, the little girl I adopted when I was 6 years old. I now have 2 little girls and can’t wait for them to get a CPK!!

    • anna2668

I remember having a brown haired one, but I don’t remember her name. Love CPK!

    • Laura A

I saved my two from childhood and gave them to my girls. I wanted the hair styling one so bad that I saved up my own money. Now my girls call the regular one “the one with the spaghetti hair,” and the other “the one with the bendy hair.”

    • Miranda

My mother practically (well actually she did) had to fight to get my first CPK for Christmas when I was 10… and in the typical brat fashion… I threw a fit when I open it Christmas morning because… it was a BOY!!! What a rotten little stinker I was! Looking back now, I know my mother probably saved for a long while in order to get me that doll and I was so ungrateful. But in time, I learned to love him and carried him all the way from CA to GA to Babyland General Hospital when I adopted his sister :-). He somehow disappeared when I was a teenager… I would love to have him now to pass down to my daughter :-)

    • Sarah Foard Cox

Aw, fun giveaway! As a child, I had a preemie CPK whose head smelled SO good! I know my girls would love one of these!

    • Rochelle

These came out when I was 2 and my auntie waiting in line for hours at toys r us to get one for me. A bald headed newborn with a blonde curl on top. I still have her and her bassinet :) Would love a new cabbage patch doll though for my niece!

    • Amy Cowden Walker

I love Cabbage Patch Dolls. The first doll I ever received was CPK when I was just learning to talk. Her name was “Esther” and my family thought we would have to change the name because I would not be able to say it. Wrong-o! “Esser” as I referred to her was very loved and I still have her today. Now my 3 year old daughter plays with her…and she too says “Esser”!!! hahaha

    • Linda

I have a CPK that I use only at Christmas so of course it is the Santa Claus baby with removable beard.

    • Rachel Nichols

I didn’t have any when I was a kid but have been looking at them for my own daughter. The one with brunette hair is so adorable and my daughter would love it.

    • Sydney

I never had one :( My sister had one of the newborn dolls.

    • Marcie

I had Otis Lee and he was my first cabbage patch kid

    • Noel

Definitely loved my kid when I was a kid–awesome prize

    • Bill

I would love a version of this doll for my kids

    • Ginene

I love CPK. When I was little we couldn’t afford one when they first came out. My mom bought me a home made one from down the street. I loved her, but still wanted a “real” one. I eventually got a store bought one, now as a mom I understand how come my parents got me a home made one first. And I still love them all!

    • Nikki Shannon

I had several cabbage patch kids. My favorite had blond hair and pigtails. I remember when my llittle sister put playdough in her hair. What a catastrophe. I still have her though…playdough hair and all!

I had a CPK doll when I was a little girl. I remember my parents saved up for it by putting change in an old jelly jar because we didn’t have a lot of money. when I finally got the doll she became my instant best friend. I named her star and she had brown pig tails. I would love for my daughter to have her own doll too!

    • Carol

My mother actually made me a CPK look alike for Christmas when they first came out because she couldn’t get her hands on a “real” one. I later got a girl with blonde hair & blue eyes, a newborn and a bumblebee. My friends and I played with them all the time. Both of my girls have played with them too. My youngest (4) has one on her wish list this year.

She had reddish hair/green eyes, but her name was too abnormal for me to remember. :-) I do have good memories of visiting the cabbage patch hospital when I was a kid. My dad took my sister and me, and we had so much fun watching the dolls “being born” in the cabbage patch.

    • Jay Coupon

My CPK was a preemie. She had a tuft of yellow yarn hair in the middle of her head. I named her Mindy and took her everywhere. I was seven and all I wanted from Santa was a CPK. I found out when I was older that my parents couldn’t find a CPK anywhere that year-everyone had sold out. My Father heard a rumour that our local Richway would be getting a shipment in just a few days before Christmas. He got up early that morning and stood outside in the cold in line for hours. There was a lottery for the dolls and he was able to get one for me. It was my favorite Christmas as a kid. I even got the Big Wheel with the seat for my doll. I hope my Daddy knew how much that meant to me.

    • aliceneasley

My little one loves the Snugglie Angel!

    • Amie

I remember going to the store with my grandmother to buy my first cabbage patch, Rufus Kirby, It was when they first came out and people were fighting to get them. I was crushed to see the shelves were empty. However, my grandmother God rest her, actually took one out of someone’s buggy who had like four near the checkout when they weren’t looking. When I think back I can’t believe she did that, but I at the time I was an ecstatic 6 year old to actually get one.

    • Cabbage Patch Kids brings back so many memories. I remember how excited I was to get my very own. My 3-year-old plays with my preemie while my full-sized doll is put away. Thanks for another giveaway and a trip down memory lane.

    • Kelly

When I was growing up, my dad used to tell me he picked me out of the cabbage patch, it made me laugh every time he would tell me that. I got to go to a cabbage patch kid adoption house and adopt my own from a house full of dolls. Don’t remember her name but have the memory of that day.

    • Tanya Henson

I remember Christmas morning for many years waiting to see the Cabbage Patch Preemie Xavier under the tree from Santa. I would love to win one of these for my little ones and carry on the tradition. Thanks for making this possible!

    • Jenn

My 7 year old daughter cherishes her and when she isn’t playing with my CPK, she puts her in my room on her special seat :). She means the world to me because I was poor growing up and my dad spent a lot of time/$ to make me happy. She still smells like baby powder, as the original dolls did.

She was always so talented and creative and the outfits she created were absolutely amazing. Unfortunately she passed away 6 years ago, but I am trying to build that connection with my daughter who just turned 4. I still have some of the outfits my mom sewed and hope that she will feel a connection to her through the never-ending sweetness of the cabbage patch dolls. I hope to take her to Babyland Hospital this year! I can’t wait!

My favorite story was buying my tough 8th grade brother one when my family was in NY. We had gone to the nursery where they were being born from a head of cabbage, he was immediately drawn to an Atlanta Braves little guy. He kept going back to that doll even though he totally did not want to go at first. My younger sister and I bought it with ou own money and gave it to him later that day. My parents always made us look for a CPK with either our same birthday or our same name before they’d let us get it… out of every trip at every store, the 4 of us each only found one! It was so much fun hunting for a CPK that was “supposed” to be ours with their birthday or their name. My 2 daughters haven’t found their names/birthday CPK’s yet so it’d be awesome to win one and start their collections on a new tradition!

My twin sister and I both had a Cabbage Patch Doll when we were little! I loved pretending that was my “real” baby! We both had a newborn baby! My mom had to label them because we would fight over whose it whose! That was over 20 years ago! • Claudia

I have 3 daughters who are now grown and now we have wonderful grand-daughters. One Christmas each girl wanted a cabbage patch doll, but we were in a very difficult financial situation. Also there was a shortage of cabbage patch dolls that Christmas. I was able by a miracle to purchase 2 dolls, but could not find a third one anywhere. (at that time we were living in a very small town in northern Canada serving in Christian ministry). One business in town was having a Christmas drawing for the one cabbage patch doll that they had in stock. I filled out the paper for the drawing and said a prayer to the Lord that he was in control and in charge of Christmas for my girls. I dropped in the box. I was in awe to the Lord when on Christmas Eve the store called and I had won the drawing. My 3 little girls had an amazing Christmas morning and I told them the story of how GOd had supplied their gifts. My girls still have these dolls for their girls. I know my granddaughters would love to have new ones. Thank you

    • Tabitha Williamson

    • onefrugalgirl

My parents couldn’t buy one the year they were the most popular, so they tried to have one made for me. A woman made an all cloth one. At the time I hated it, after all it wasn’t exactly what I wanted, but as I got older I learned that my parents were just as disappointed that they couldn’t get me what I wanted.

    • ikemom3

My memory of CPK: I was about 8 or 9 years old and I was at a store with my mom and I had a doll in my arms, in the craze that it was a woman snatched it out of my hands and ran to the register, my mom was angry! But, I looked around and there were about 20 black ones, so I said to my mom its ok, I will just get one of them! And to this day I still have Minnie and my 7 year old daughter plays with her. I would love for her to get one of her own to pass on to her daughter

    • Tracy C

My favorite was my first (the year they came out) that Santa gave me for Christmas (unfortunately I lost her when I was 9 in a house fire). I’ve been given many since then but no CPK is as special as your first.
