    • Has anyone tried this yet?  I want to get some for my grandfather but how do they know what prescription strength to use?  Also, what does 1.5 index lenses mean?

      • G8trgirl1005

I have no idea what 1.5 index means.  I just used what was on my prescription my optometrist gave me.  Hopefully they will ship to me and be right.

        • Emilytwinmom

The “index” is how thin or thick the lenses will be with your script, which will also affect the weight of the glasses. The stronger the script the higher the index you should order. To give you an idea my script is -6 in both eyes. If I ordered a 1.5 index lens I would look like I was wearing microscopes. My eyes would look tiny and you could see things behind me in the outer edges of my lenses. My glasses would also be pretty heavy! The usual recommendation is if your script is beyond +3 or -4, go with at least a 1.67 index. Anything lower than those numbers should be fine with a 1.57 index. I have never ordered a 1.5 index, because they would be too heavy and make me look like a total dork!!! Hope that helps, I’ve worn many many pairs of glasses, mostly mail ordered.

While this is technically true, and good advice, I have a prescription of -5 and ordered the free 1.5 index glasses on a gamble and they look perfectly normal. I chose a plastic frame that was already a little on the thick side, and the lenses are the exact thickness of the frames, so I guess I just got lucky. Since I only wear my glasses at night after I take out my contacts I didn’t really care one way or another, but I wanted to let anyone who might be in a similar situation know that you may not have to pay for the special ones if you’re getting a thick frame.

          • ok thanks!

      • Mjsbassett

I did this with the last code.  Got my eyes checked at Sears, was due anyway, and then used the prescription to order.  I’m wearing them now.  They are great!

    • G8trgirl1005

Thanks for the post!  I just ordered my glasses :)

    • Sheila

I’m unclear about the shipping/handling comment in Jenny’s post. If you’ve ordered this deal, what did you have to pay? Thanks!

    • Acmjrm79

      I got a pair of $98 glasses for free & a discounted ship/hand fee. I ended up paying $12.90! :0)

      • Sheila

        Thanks for the info!

    • Jessica_5308

You had to pay full shipping last time, the glasses are great! They come with a case, Cleaning solution, and a tool to tighten the screws.

    • srt8021

I got a pair for $12 after shipping.  They are awesome!

      can you get prescription sunglasses.

    • Debnsc1971

Is this offer still working?  I can’t get it to work for me!  :(

    • This is a great offer! I got it about a year ago, just thinking it’s nearly free, so it will be good to have a back up pair.  Well, I loved the Coastal glasses more than my store-bought glasses!  I now wear my Coastal glasses every day.  I paid about $14 in shipping and insurance.  This is a great deal.  $14 for glasses. period!

If you need prescription glasses, then you have to have your prescription with you in order to be able to type in all the proper info on the order form.  You will need to know things like your pupil distance and vision in each eye.

    • mommyof4

Just got my free pair of glasses and only paid $12.90 for shipping/handling….Thank you :)

    • Keep in mind that the 1.5x lens will not work for everyone. My son lost his glasses a few months ago and had been relying on an old pair. I got excited when I saw this offer a few weeks ago. Well, turns out his prescription will not work with 1.5 lenses and with shipping and everything it came out to about $60. Still not a bad deal. My son is very happy with his new glasses and the do come with that tool that some others have mentioned.

Just something to keep in mind as not all glasses will be free.

Is the first pair free option always available for new members with coastal?  I just purchased new glasses through Zenni, which aren’t as nice as these; but I’d rather wait until my next exam before ordering utilizing the free pair offer  through coastal.  I wish I had known this before.  I’ve used zenni before, but I wasn’t pleased at all this time and was planning on changing next time.

Great customer service! I ordered a pair last time they had the promotion and I had a problem with the frames and they issued a full refund, tney paid return shipping and made me eligible for this promotion again! I would definately recommend this company to anyone! I got anti-reflective lenses, UV coating protection, scratch resistant, and the fastest method of shipping and paid $39! Cannot beat that!
