Starting this week Dollar Tree is accepting coupons! They have some strict rules, like only 2 printable coupons for an entire transaction, but looking at the deals it may be worth the trip to check out what your store has.

Keep in mind you are going to find a different stock at most every store, also be patient and take a copy of the new coupon policy with you these first few weeks as the cashiers learn everything.

Three warnings:

Remember that every store will have different stock.  In my area on store had a number of cosmetic items and  another store only had a small number of house brand items.

As I walked the stores near me I noticed that many times Dollar Tree does sell a name brand product, however it is a size package that you will never see in another store.  A great example is the Hefty Slider bags below, they sell a 6 ct. freezer bag box where you’ll normally find a 22-24 ct. box in a grocery store.  Make sure that you are comparing the unit size not just the brand name when buying deals.

Also please check expiration dates on food items!  I found hamburger helper that was good for a year right next to boxes that expire next month.

so is this saying we can use as many Manufactoring coupons as we want but only 2 internet coupons?

      • ME

The store I went to yesterday (I spent 30 mins at register for 12 items) follows the coupons to the letter.. for example.. the Post Shredded wheat on coupon it says 4 per transaction… they only allow 4.  they wouldn’t do a seperate tranaction, however they were more than happy to let you go out to your car drop off your groceries and come back and do it again.  Some items say 1 per customer per day….  The clerks were threatened that if they took a coupon incorrectly it would come out of their paycheck and they would lose their job – (which I think is illegal if I am not mistaken).  Anyway.. I will try another store toward the end of the week and see what happens.. however at this time I am not impressed with the process.

        • swirlypop

They should “follow the coupon wording to the letter” and so should we. If a coupon says 4, then 4 it is.

          • jessica2140

I’m okay with following the “rules” on the coupon…what is NOT cool is threatening employees like that!  The people at the Dollar Trees in my area only make minimum wage to begin with…to threaten them with paycuts on top of it is just wrong!!

          • Me

My problem was NOT the “following the coupon to the letter”  I just noted that to let others know… because as we all know not all stores care.  My point was to point out the mistreatment of an employee on day two fo accetiong coupons.. with no treainging.

        • Newcouponmom

That’s horrible! I didn’t think stores were allowed to do that to their employees! :(

      • Yes.  And like she said, be prepared to wait and be patient as the cashiers seem to have no training on how to enter coupons.  The lady who checked me out was nice, but you could tell that she was thinking “OH, crap!” when I handed her the coupons and it took her a few minutes to figure it out.  The only deal I was able to get were Softsoap body was for $0.50.  They are a smaller bottle, but whatever.  I usually have to pay $1+ for the full sized bottle after coupons.  Everything else I had hoped to get the store either doesn’t carry or the shelves have already been picked clean.  It was hard to tell since they don’t have the shelves marked with price tags, so I couldn’t tell what had been in the empty spot.

    • Natalie

I have two $1 off Bounty Paper Towels from Vocal Point a few months back, which would make them free!

    • Mary

has anyone seen the bounty napkins at the $ tree?  I used my bounty paper towel $1.00 coupon at walmart also sells for $1.00 a roll.

      • Ginger

I’m in Cali, but my Dollar Tree frequently has Bounty Basic.

    • My trip to Dollar Tree went smooth.  I was the first one to test the coupons, and they did key them in one by one, manually!  They said that’s how they have to do it.  They won’t scan.  Anyways, they were asking me questions about coupons and they were very nervous about the entire thing!  I got some great deals though!

      • Newcouponmom

Yeah, my DT cashier and manager were so sweet and patient with me! They used my couponing spree as a training exercise and asked me several things about it. Good deals and pleasant staff!

      • Yes, they have to put the coupons in manually.

    • Scouponmom73

I tried to add a coupon to the list but it didn’t show the Dollar Tree name yet but at my Dollar Tree they have Palmolive Dish Liquid and I have several – .25 cents off ANY SIZE making it only  .75 cents!  These coupons came from the Sunday paper inserts and ends on 9/1/2012 so hurry and get your deal!

      • Scouponmom73

ALSO….Another great deal is the Maruchan Yakisoba noodles…I found – .50 off
coupons in the past months newspaper inserts making them only .50
cents!  These coupons expire Oct 31, 2012.

        • Mcoupon11

They have been on sale for several weeks at Kroger for 0.99 cents, the fifty cent off coupon doubles making them free – may check there first.

          • Morgan

they are also only .14cents each at walmart after coupon

    • Dawn

I found very few items in my local store worthy of using coupons with. I did get some Sunny D and some Shredded Wheat though. Your best bet is to use coupons with NO size restriction. I had no problem at my store with the check out. They were prepared and friendly.

    • Ed In Ncarolina

I think coupons at Dollar Tree will last a long time – like maybe til Christmas or New Years. They are like Aldi, cheap and understaffed. Who hires these decision-making executives now days?

      • jessica2140

        Tell it!!

    • Sunshinecakes10

I went to Dollar Tree this afternoon and I was told they were not accepting $1.00 coupons.   She said they would not accept any coupon that would make things free.

      • Newcouponmom

That’s too bad about your DT :(
Mine accepted the $1.00 Q’s. Got 30 Speed Stick deodorants today for families in need.Dollar Tree policy says, “Coupons cannot be redeemed for more than the purchase price of the item.” Unfortunately it also says, “Management has the right to refuse any coupon or otherwise limit quantities.”Maybe try a different store?

      • Newcouponmom

Oh, by the way, the Speed Sticks I found were 1.8 oz, which are not on the restricted sizes for the 1.00 off Q ss 8/12 which reads: “Excludes 2-oz., 1.4-oz. and 0.5-oz. Sizes; Limit 4 per transaction.”

      • I used 1.00 coupon at our local Dollar Tree just this morning on a 1.00 Secret deodorant….cashier accepted it.

      • You need to go up above in the post and print out their coupon policy and take it to them.  No where does it state that they will not accept a coupon that makes things free.  They are unable to accept coupons for FREE items….where the price has to be written in and where there are no purchase requirements.  Again, this is ignorance on the part of the cashier or the person who trained them.  I bought a Speed Stick deoderant at our local DT this morning along with a bunch of other stuff and used a $1.00 coupon.  That deoderant was free (except for the sales tax).

      • jessica2140

Agree with below…I had to do the same at my store, except it wasn’t a $$ limit, it was a # of coups limit!  In fairness, its a new experience for them so far, but I’m getting nervous about the future, as they’re being kind of difficult so far…

    • Ok, so here was my couponing adventure this morning at Dollar Tree (and it really was a good adventure!): Bought 8 rolls of Bounty Basic paper towels (had a coupon for each for 25 cents off), 7 boxes of Hefty One-Zip bags (I had 3 coupons for saving $1.00 on two—so they were basically BOGO free, and one coupon for 55 cents off one), and 1 Speed Stick deoderant (had a $1.00 coupon–so this was free). Had a really nice talk with the manager of the store (I had to enlist his help to get a couple of paper towel rolls from the TOP shelf)–he asked how coupons were going there. I told him that the cashier was really thorough (and she was the one who waited on me again today–and was just as thorough!) and I had a really good shopping experience yesterday. As I checked out this time, he stood and watched…My total before coupons (with tax) was $17.12…and after coupons, my total was $10.17. The cashier was really thorough, as I said, going thru the coupons prior to scanning, making sure they hadn’t expired and that the ounces were right (like with the deoderant). I think I am gonna like Dollar Tree taking coupons! While I really don’t need the Hefty One-Zip bags right now, they will certainly come in handy at Christmas time or any time my daughter decides to bake cookies!

      • mewatts

What speed stick q are you using? The only one’s out that I can see exclude the smaller sizes like the 2.oz etc..

      • mewatts

    • I can’t say enough about how nice both the manager and the cashier who checked me out were about the whole thing…..it’s definitely a learning experience for everyone!

      • Mel

The one I got was a mens roll on.  Its blue (like the “linky” color blue  It is a 1.7 oz.

    • jessica2140

I did not have the best experience…but I got a TON of stuff for free/cheap!  When I got to the register, I was told I could only use 4 coupons per order (ha!), so I brought out my copy of their coupon policy.  I was told that “their company does not have a website” (really?  I made a fake coupon policy for their company?)  I made him call the manager, who informed the idiot that the policy is no more than 2 PRINITIES per order…and then was allowed to work my deal!  I got FOR FREE:  10 Revlon tweezers, 30 packages of Efferdent, 10 Scotch Pop Up Tape wrist dispensers, and 20 Pop Up Tape Refills!!  I got 10 boxes of Honey Maid Graham Cracker Squares for .50 each!!  So…Five dollars spent on the shopping trip (plus a dollar on fairy wings for my daughter, who had to have them!)…and I got $80 worth of stuff!  Mental Note for the future though…go to a different Dollar Tree where the cashiers are not so ignorant!!

      • Beckyjacksonhall

Goodness! Do let us know which Dollar Tree you’ll be leaving some deals for others to take advantage of.

        • jessica2140

Luckily… the Dollar Tree I went to was super full of these items (50 or more of everything I purchased)…I didn’t even put a dent in the bins!  I don’t believe in shelf clearing…but I DO believe in making a deal work when I can!

          • mewatts

I would like to know which store you shop at that has tons of efferdent. You said you bought 30? Just how many does that store carry?

          • mewatts

      • funny…..www.dollartree.com takes you to what website?  lol

      • sullysaver

Don’t you think that is a little excessive?  It is couponers like yourself that result in stores having strict policies and cashiers getting pissy…..don’t be so greedy, and if you have to be, then make a few trips.

        • jessica2140

It would be excessive…if I wasn’t supplying my family, a brother in college, and 80% of my church’s food pantry/special programs.  :)
I imagine it WOULD be greedy if I were hoarding a bunch  of stuff in my house…however, I’m attempting to get A LOT of people through tough financial times…and I don’t feel bad AT ALL about doing it.

          • FreedomPooper

Plus you do not know how hairy she may be. She might need those 10 Revlon tweezers!

            • mewatts

I think it is totally excessive no matter how many your supplying. It’s people like you that get the policies changed and why people like me cannot even get 1 or 2 of the items I want because they have been all wiped out by sheer greed.  Cashiers know greed when they see it and sometimes that is why they get an attitude…

Loved it!!!!!  I needed a laugh today.

    • Amy

Shopped at the $ tree in NE Florida. Had the cereal, bar and soft soap and Libby’s. Cashier checked every coupon, but was very nice. Actually, nicer than they usually are. Said they were getting lots of couponers.

    • Bell7869

my dollar tree didnt carry the comet and the mean green was only the 12 oz size so my shopping trip was a bust at  hiram ga .

My Dollar Tree said they can’t give free products, so I wasn’t able to use any $1 coupons.  Frustrating!

      • jessica2140

Print out the policy…and request they adhere!!  It says that you can’t use any coupons that SAY free or b1g1…anything that you have to write in a price on.  You CAN use $1 off coupons!  Trying to be understanding because I know they are all new to this, but I agree…it’s SUPER frustrating!!

    • Spi_cy13

2 print at home internet coupons/transaction. So, I can do multiple transactions, right?

      • FreedomPooper

Depends on who is working that day!

    • Martha Thomas

Bought four boxes of Post Shredded Wheat today.  I was surprised at the register that the cashier said she had to ring each box and coupon separately.  I did four transactions of $0.07 each.  I hope that she figures out soon how to key multiple items and coupons in the same transaction.

      • Martha Thomas

A note – I just contacted Dollar Tree to let them know and they have already written back to confirm that the cashier misunderstood the policy and that they would address it right away.  Kudos to Dollar Tree!

    • Jenna

I agree with sullysaver.  Watch your quantities.  We don’t want them to stop couponers from finding good bargains, but we also don’t want them to allow people to go over the top also.

Enjoyed my trip to Dollar tree today..  It did take a few minutes longer when checking out because the girl did read every line on each coupon but she was so funny doing it.  She would read it and then ask me the questions instead of another on of the workers or a manager,  Didn’t really get that much.  The store where I am is very small.  It was fun however and look forward to going to a bigger store next time….  Thanks Dollar Tree for joining the coupon world….

i have to say i wont make a special trip to dollar tree just for coupon usage but i do shop there from time to time for classroom items for my students. I will be sure to bring my coupons with me. I do agree with the person that placed the post that the sizes they carry are smaller and sometimes even with a coupon the by the unit price is a better buy at another store. I have not had any issues with using the coupons at our local store they are very nice about itbut be patient they have to hand key in the coupons just like at family dollar.
