Early bird specials for junk food and bleach is Food Lion’s plan for bringing their company back? Yet they still aren’t doubling coupons? *shakes head* I know they’ve lowered prices on “thousands of items”, etc. But they STILL are competitive with other stores in my area, because they do not put as many things on sale at the same time, and they don’t double. I really don’t understand how they are NOT getting the message.

      • Jenni P.

*Still are NOT competitive. Sorry for the typo. Bi-Lo and Publix still are running circles around Food Lion.

        • Rach3lbu11man

I agree…but for those who don’t know that they may make a little money from them…the ad is starting to list more “deals” but if you know what you are doing it doesn’t even compare…..!

          • Kholloman

Publix and Bi-Lo aren’t in my state and Kroger is too far away for me. I’d burn up my savings in gas! In my area Food Lion has the lowest prices especially when compared to Harris Teeter and Lowes. EX: $6 for Hillshire Farm sausage at these stores compared to $3 at Food Lion. Double coupon or not, Food Lion has them beat.  I feel like I’m in an alternate universe seeing you guys complain about their prices!

            • Bthomasson1

I think it’s all about location. I get some steals at my local FL and I have a Kroger right near me. Kroger is so nasty about coupons and there’s always some issue there. I try to price match to Walmart when I can and use Kroger as my last resort.

            • coupongoddess

I think the same thing everytime I get on here and see people complaining about FL, I go there for my regular groceries and only go to Bi-Lo for sale items. FL’s everyday price is usually way under Bi-Lo or Harris Teeter’s , not to mention clean store, friendly employees and managers. I guess it really is different everywhere you go!

            • Mrsswinehart

I agree! I get so sick of people complain about Food Lion. When it’s all you have, you say thank you and be thankful you can get deals at all!

            • Mtmkjr

So many people are making generalized statements, saying that “Food Lion is this”, or “Food Lion is that”.
The truth is, that the store image is so widely varied from area to area.  In some areas, FL is apparently trashy, dirty and not coupon friendly.
In others, it is the opposite: clean, friendly and coupon friendly.
So those that hate FL just don’t have a good store, and those who love it probably live in an area where they put effort into being clean, and friendly.
I live in an area with the good stores.  But I’ve visited others – and totally sympathize with the complaints I read here.
              Just my 2 cents!

        L O L !!!!!!!! Same here.

        • 28086

MMMMM!!!!!! Doritos, Tasty Cakes and Soda????  :P
Lets see, is that breakfast, lunch or dinner???

          • Don’t forget the bleach! Hey, kids, are ya thirsty?

          • Cheryl

Yeah, and the Doritos are for Saturday morning only… what is with that? anyone gonna beat the door down to get them? I do admit, the green beans are 3/$1 and that is a great price, limit 12, and I will get those along w/ a bag of sugar for $1.49. But the Doritos????

FL has not been coupon friendly for quite a while. I took a couple internet coupons in about a year ago to buy pasta. The cashier was new and asked the person bagging my 4 boxes of pasta if they’d take the coupons. Even with the coupons it would have been over $1.20 p/box which is high. But that person said “no, too many fraudulent coupons going around”. She didn’t even touch my coupon or try to scan them. I told them to keep their “fraudulent pasta” and called corporate. They sent me a few $1 coupons and the manager called but I didn’t call him back. I didn’t go to FL for about a yr because of that! Poor CS!! They will learn or go out of business. We’ll see.

    • Bthomasson1

I shop FL with a small list, but they are so friendly to both me and my coupons, and I love those $off a $amount coupons they frequently have. The kiosk can put out some good coupons, too. I did great there this week on toilet paper, paper towels, taco and fajita seasoning, and chicken. I think this week the banana boat deal is worth a look- I have $2/1 coupons.

      • Harris7310

I KNOW!!! I don’t understand it. There are 4 Food Lion’s and one Kroger and I don’t understand it at all!! Kroger’s sales are 10x better than Food Lion’s. Not to mention a “sale price” for Food Lion is a regular priced item for Kroger. Doesn’t make any sense to me at all!

    • Dee

The few items I added to my list printed null instead of description of item.  Ex:  Cheez Its, Breyers Ice Cream and Mueller’s Pasta.  I added them manually, but thought you would want to know this.

    • Dixielee323

Pepsi Next 2L are 79 cents and with the coupon for 55 cents off in last weeks paper that makes them only 24 cents each!!!

      • Amlucenti

is there a limit on how many you can buy?

      • sjgsjg

they were $1.25 in my store

      • The Nexts are not .79 at all stores. They weren’t at mine. I went to BiLo instead (see post above) where they were 1.25 and since they double coupons there, I only paid 15 cents.

      • Swampie376

This is correct I purchased 10 of them yesterday…..Thank you Food Lion :)

    • Bvnclctr

If you sign up on the Mueller’s website, you get a coupon for .55 off one.

    • sjgsjg

I am done with Food Lion!  I swear everytime I shop there, I bring home expired food!  I’m tired of it and their prices can’t compete.

      • I was just about to post an “I’m done” message, too, but for a different reason. In my town, they have chickens for 60c/lb and ground beef for $1.99. Sounds too good to be true, right? Well, it is. No sign of either one! I know I went fairly late in the day, but still, to be complete out of both? I wanted to give Food Lion another chance. Really, I did. They seemed to be making an effort to change with their new circulars plus I had $5 off $25 purchase coupon I wanted to use. So, I gave them a second chance and I got burned again. It’s pretty typical for Food Lion to do that. They’ll have a sale on cheap meat, but they don’t supply the stores with enough product. I have talked to the butchers about that and it’s a real problem. They complain about it, too, but they’re just low end employees so no one in corporate cares what they think. Same with the customers, apparently.

I guess the idea is to lure people in with the cheap meat prices and when they find they’re sold out, they will just buy other stuff. Well, it didn’t work on me. I ditched my empty shopping cart and went to BiLo across the street.

        • Crystalgoodwin3

Where did you get the $5 off $25 coupon?

        • stephanie

I work at a food lion and we always give rainchecks, even on meat.

        • Swampie376

Wow that is so sad. I must give our local Food Lion credit they are super friendly and always have plenty of stock on sale items. I am so thankful I have not encounted this type of problems because I am in a small town (China Grove NC) and it would be very out of my way to find a new store.

    • andrea.gardner13

Wow! I just saved SOOO much money at Food Lion. I saved ~$90 with MVP and coupons. I paid almost half of what I normally would have paid without coupons. I’m in a small town and we pretty much only have Food Lion or Walmart…and this makes me incredibly happy. This is only my 2nd time going into Food Lion and using coupons. The first time, I saved 59%! Wow!

    • 29579

My local food lions are coupon nazi’s, everytime I go in with a coupon they look at me like a criminal trying to steal from there store, Bi-lo, Kroger, Walmart get 99% of my business.

      • Crystalgoodwin3

The same with the FL that’s closest to me. They are definitely not coupon friendly at all. I’ve been thinking of reporting them to the corporate office.
We have 2 FL that I drive by if I’m out shopping. The 2nd one is really coupon friendly and everyone is so nice.
Just not at the FL in Beaufort, North Carolina.

    • Jess

My local food lion had no early bird specials, and had not heard about it at all. I got Doritos anyway, 2 for $3.29 after coupon. The early bird specials were not in their ad either, where did this come from?

      • Guest

Same as mine, I went to 3 food lions looking for the early bird specials with no luck. My husband was looking forward to doritos for $1!

      • Mtmkjr

Food Lion specials vary by area.  If it’s not in your ad, then you don’t have that sale.  Sorry you had to find out the hard way!

    • Shannon

On the Palermo Pizzas it says limit 2.  Does that mean I can only purchase 2 pizzas or 2 at the BOGO deal (4)?  Thanks (newbie here)

      • This can be a little tricky.  The ad will usually state “limit 2 Free” however, each product rings up at 1/2 price, so some stores may read that limit 2 as only 2 products.  But, I don’t imagine that many of you will have that problem, so you should be able to get 4 total products at the B1G1 price.

I do wish that they doubled Q’s, but I really do appreciate thier B1G1 free deals, that you do not need to buy 2 in order to receive the discount, since the items ring up at 50% off each, so you can use 2 Q’s.  Thats the ONLY time I shop there!

    • Leigh

I don’t like the Food Lion near my house – haven’t been in ages but decided to give them a try last night – now I have to go back b/c their own coupon to b4g1 on Totino’s pizzas didn’t work – the cashier tried to scan it and thought it worked but looking at the receipt now, it did not.  I do have a question – not copuletely sure after reading the poicy – can you use a store and manu q on same tiem?  I do think they are trying but not sure if I am going to try again or not.
