    • FrugalAggieGal

What are some items you use for $0.10 fillers?

      • mrn1

I’ve never found 10 cent fillers at the two stores in my area unless it is holiday time and a pencil or bag is on sale.  Some stores have taffy or caramels near the registers, but not mine.  I usually buy something I need as a filler or find a clearance item.  Sometimes I use the cheapest sale items like the comet or gum this week.  10 cents would be nice, but no go for me.  I recently discovered the poster board at Walgreens is really good quality and isn’t but about 15 cents more than at Target, so I have been using it as fillers too.  Never too much posterboard with kids in the house.

      • Barbara

In the Gaffney SC store there is a clearance section with little purse size calendars for .10 cents each. They have come in handy many times for me, and they still have a bunch back there. I have also found stickers, pencils, and other small items in our clearance section.

      • Yes, always check the clearance first!  Last time they had easter goodies for $0.10 and under!  They just filled the clearance isle at my Wags last week with all new stuff.

    • Stephanie

Wags can be so enticing! But I’m sure they will be out of everything when I get there!

      • Bryarsmom

Resolve that issue in a flash, just like we all do-if interested in grabbing all the deals.
        Be there when they open.
I go on way to church every Sunday. Be organized-zip in and zip out. BOOM! 5 min. :)

        • Nancino89

I used to do that until i noticed that my store never mananged to have the items in stock no matter what time of the day it was…. :( gave up on walgreens love cvs though. :)

        • Stephanie

That worked great for me — before kids.  Now nothing is organized, or in and out in 5 minutes…..  :)  Wouldn’t have it any other way!

      • TeeCee

I found out when my store’s mid-week delivery is…that has saved me a lot of aggravation because they get the shelves restocked overnight.

    • Coupon_dude

The print limit has been reached on the Blue Diamond almond coupon.  :-(

    • Adavis

the chex mix Walgreens coupon is 99 cents of if you purchase 3.. not 99 cents off each one… atleast that is what my June Walgreen coupon book states. Does other people have 99 cent off each package??

      • Qing1

Also the Lysol Wipes is .50/2 not .50/1. So it defeats the purpose since the RR is on only one. O well

        •  Thanks for catching these! I’ve updated the list :)

    • lovintocoupon

For the P&G promotion, I was thinking of getting two packs of diapers and two packs of wipes.  The total will come to $24.98.  Will the RR still print?  I’ve heard CVS’s program will when you’re within a few cents (never tried it through), I just didn’t know if anyone knows anything about Walgreens.  Thanks!!  :)

      • Susanne

It will not print for $24.98 when it states $25.00 at Walgreens. It will at CVS and at Rite Aid.

        • lovintocoupon

Thanks Susanne!  I didn’t figure it would, but I thought I’d ask just to be sure!  :)

      • Nope:(  At CVS that would work, there it always works if it’s $1 under, but not at Walgreen’s sadly!

    • Susancoupons1

My Walgreens will not allow me to use my RR on a transaction that is suppose to kick out RR. In other words, if I use my RR to purchase an item that is suppose to give me back RR, the RR will not kick out at the end of the transaction. So unfortunately the scenarios above will not work for me. Does anyone know why this is…does each store have its own policies?

      • Tamarascoupons

I would call the customer service line because unless you are trying to use the same reward to get a RR for the exact item that is not their policy. You just have be sure that it is not the same item or from the same company. They will directly contact the store. Also try other stores in your area, I had a similar situation and once I called it was brought to the attention and they have to comply with policy. Also print the coupon policy from the website. As I told the manager I want to be aware of your policy so I can continue to shop. That’s why they give the RR to shop again. These experiences are why I hesitate to sometimes shop @ Walgreens.

        • Guest

The store does not have any control over the Catalina. We are at the mercy of whether it feels like printing. As an employee of a WAG, on regular occasions, my employee discount kicks out the RR and causes problems. Try not to be all up in arms with the cashiers or managers because they really have no control over it. It is frustrating though!

          • HappyChi

My WAGs also doesn’t kick out an RR when using an RR. Im wondering if a filler would make it print even if the RR amount is over the filler. Any ideas.

      • It means you are using an RR that is of the same manufacturer of the next RR that is suppose to print.  Even if you are getting different items, if they are of the same family (P&G, Kimberly Clark, J&J) the next RR won’t print.  You have to be careful.
*Sometimes they will print, but you never know if it will work or not on the same brand.

    • Susancoupons1

    • mrn1

To shop or not to shop.  That is the question.  Just the three transactions in the scenario above, while they appear to be free after RR, will cost me at least $2.50 in tax alone, not including the cost of my fillers for items that I don’t really even need.  It is so hard not to go shop.  Couponing is so addictive.  As my teenagers say…Mom is smoking coupons again.

      • I agree!  I have to say though, I usually price match everything at Walmart :) Love it!

      • mandernmd

Haha!!!  Love the “mom is smoking coupons again.”  Too funny!  My husband says he wishes he could turn into a coupon or sales flyer so he could get some attention…heehee!  It is SOOO fun AND addicting!

      • Couponer

Yeah, I wouldn’t touch the scenario above.  With 10% tax and $.59 fillers it’s definitely not worth it.

        Here’s what I did.  (I started with a $7RR)

        Transaction #1
        Brainstrong Kids $10
        Newspaper $1.50
        – $4 Brainstrong coupon
        – $7 RR (from last week)
        = $.50 + tax
        Receive $10 RR

        Transaction #2
        Lansoprazole $6
        Goody Hair item $2
        Reach Toothbrush  $2.99
        Walgreens kitchen spice (needed) $.79

        – $1 Reach coupon (in dispenser on shelf in Walgreens)
        – $10 RR from Transaction #1
        = $.78 + tax
        Receive $6RR, $2RR, $2RR

        Transaction #3
        Brainstrong $10
        Walgreens baking soda $.59
        – $4 Brainstrong coupon
        – $6RR from from Transaction #2
        = $.59 + tax
        Receive $10 RR

        Transaction #4
        Repeat Transaction #2

Even with tax, it’s a definite MM

    • Ruth

Some of the stores have post cards, if you are looking for a cheap filler item.

    • Page Mccurry

Wouldn’t it make more sense to purchase the American Express gift cards for the total amount of your future transactions so you can get a $5 RR first and then do the scenarios listed above?  Is there is minimum purchase amount for the gift cards?  Just wondering!

      • Dezzybooboo

That’s an awesome idea!!!………… Does anyone know if this would work?

        • Couponing124

It will except you have to buy 2 cards and the least $ you can put on them is $25….

          • Page Mccurry

             Thank you Couponing124!

      • Dezzybooboo

That’s an awesome idea!!!………… Does anyone know if this would work?

      • mrn1

Good idea, but the American Express cards usually require an activation fee and it takes around 2+ hours for it to be activated.  I will have to check into that one.

      • Page Mccurry

Thanks for the heads up on the activation fee and delay in activation for the gift cards!  I might call my Walgreens in the morning to get the details on this deal and I will update this post.

    • SuzQ

Question:  If I buy two of the boxes of Omega Smart Fish Oil, do I need to purchase them in two separate transactions to get two RR back?  Or will two print if I purchase two in the same transaction?  (Here I am thinking there will still be two on the shelf when I get there.)

      • Monarch2003

        gotta do two trasactions :)

        • SuzQ

          Thank you!

    • cswilliams

I will be there bright and early, i work right next door to wags, so excited for tomorrow. I have plenty of RR’s to use so hopefully i wont go to crazy. I still have to work. Lol!

    • cswilliams

    • Wethedeans

Oh yeah…… Got 6 ecotrins on sale 2/3.00. Had 3 coupons for $5/2 making me $6.00 right off the bat. Also bought in this same transaction a 200 and something pampers butt wipes on clearance for $7.35. I paid 1.62 oop and got back a 2.00 RR. First time I’ve ever shopped at Walgreens…..I’ll be back!

      • ashley

How did you end up paying 1.62 on the wipes??

    • Theclampitts

I think one could avoid the need for useless filler on listed scenario by doing it backwards. Fish oil 10.00, then gummies 10.00, no need for filler there, then the other 2 items goodies and and acid reducer, get any 2.00 item you can actually use (I usually get toilet paper) and get back 8 RR insted of 10, but at least you don’t go home with useless fillers. My store never has .10 items,so fillers can take me awhile to find, and usually cost at least 50. I’d rather have something I need than more friggin jello.

      • Stephanie

Sometimes I do this, but it depends.  I’m one of those ‘one-transaction’ people.  It’s too much work to split it all up and the cashiers give you a hard time.  Sometimes it’s easier to just buy a little thing and then give it away to someone who would use it (I do food drives at church).  They have this basket of caramel candies that are 3/$1 at the registers that  works well.

        • Couponer

Many of us do not have inexpensive fillers available.  We don’t have baskets of $.33 caramels at the registers or $.10 Laffy Taffy or anything that closely resembles anything close to anything under $.59.  That’s why we cringe when we see needless transactions — each filler adds up (and if it’s taxable that’s another 10% added on to the filler cost…)

The cheapo Nice! gelatin is no longer $.25 ea.  In today’s ad, it’s 4 for $1 or $.69 ea.  The cheapest filler item in the ad is $.59 this week. And when we see those items, we hope that it’s something that we can use.  In many places, we’re no longer able to purchase newspapers with our RRs so that wipes those out as filler items.

If the goal is to spend the least out of pocket and a transaction can be switched around with another to avoid a $.59+ filler item then it’s a very good thing.

    • Couponer

Why spend $10 on Brainstrong when there’s a $4 manufacturer’s coupon right in the store for it?  Goodness sakes, it’s a $4 MM this week and no one has mentioned it???

      • Ckladd

It’s in a Wags Vitamins and Supplements Booklet if you can find one. They are usually located near the vitamins.

          • Couponer

Thanks VP22.  :-)   It was a busy morning at the store.  ;-)

I found the new coupon book in store on the 1st and didn’t see it mentioned on any of the sites until that night.  I gave a heads up on one site I look at and they never posted it.  Oh well, plenty on the shelf for me to get my 4.

      • mrn1

Whether it’s mentioned previously or not, I appreciate when others repost this kind of stuff. I have a large family and can’t spend a long time to read every comment on every site I visit. And, quite honestly, those coupons aren’t always at my store so some of us have to spend the initial $10 oop. Congrats to those that dont!! Happy couponing & thanks for sharing the heads up!

    • Stephanie

I could not find the Omega $10 Vitamins.  The vitamin isle was nearly barren in the one I went in this morning.

    • Stephanie

Did anyone find the Goody hair ties that are $2, with $2 RR?  I did not see it in the ad or on the shelf.  I did see some other brand that was BOGO.  But nothing with RR associated with it.

      • Couponer

Not hair ties.  Two pack of thin hair band or single pack medium thickness hair band or 2-pk barrettes.  I received a $2 RR for each pack I purchased today.

      • I got the RR on the two pack of thin head bands.

    • Mschwartz

Boy oh boy, that buy one Venus cartridge get the razor free coupon in today’s paper made for some good deals. went to 2 wags store and bought the basic Venus 4ct. Cartridges for 13.49 and a 12.99 razor at each. Got back $8 rr for each transaction, making it roughly 5.49 for both the razor and cartridges times 2. That would be a great deal in itself, but now I can submit for $10 p&g rebate making it .25/each!

      • wstrait432

Did the same deal expect when the B1G1 coupon scanned it took off $16.99 which was the price of the refills.  So I got the razor and refills for $1.99 after RR so this will be a MM with the $10 P&G rebate!!

      • Rachel1318

Where is the 10 mail in rebate? Thanks!

        • Rachel1318

          NM I found it LOL

    • There was a $3 coupon for the Omega Smart Fish Oil Supplements a few weeks ago but is no longer available to print.  If you printed it, then this is a $3 MM.  I bought two today so it was a $6 MM for me :)

    • The Gauthier Family

Y’all be careful with Walgreen’s – I went to one in Dothan, AL and they’re on a program that identifies if you use the same card on two consecutive transactions. If the deal is listed as one item per customer for RR, then a second one will not print on transaction #2 if you use your card. Use cash if you can, or use your card for the largest transaction and another card or payment method thereafter.

      • macboy

Oh wow. This must be a pilot because I did two card-based transactions on the same card back to back.

Too bad I bought them together first, asked for a refund to purchase them separately, only to find  out a few days later that I didn’t receive the original refund. Now I’m fighting to get reimbursed.

        • The Gauthier Family

The manager referred to it as “something new we’re trying” so I do believe it’s a pilot program. Using cash makes it no big deal, but I’m a debit card user and didn’t expect the hassle. Although I will say that I haven’t had an issue getting refunded to my debit card.

    • Challo11496

If you go to Walgreens website and look at the weekly ad, they include extra pages that aren’t in the circular. They call them bonus buys. The only place to see the bonus buys is the online ad, they don’t even have the items marked as being on sale in the store. This week there is B1G1 Rembrandt. You can get (2) 2-hour whitening kits for 22.99 and use (2) $5 off coupons = $6.49 a piece.

    • Val

I am new to this and new help understanding this.  If I have BOGO coupon but I need buy 2 items to get the RR, if I just buy 1 and get the other free, will I get my RR?

      • VP22

        Yes

        • Val

Thanks.  I think I was overthinking it too much.

    • Lutzprincess

Hope Wags gets their act together soon in Tampa Bay Area, last week their youth vitamin collagen $7 RR was checked and there were 12 bottles at one store on Fowler and NONE at any other store.  So this week I bet every store will have them and no RR if you got a rain check.  This is bait and switch advertising at its worst!!  Truth in advertising laws should apply.

    • Mcleodsc

I have a question about using the coupons in the “Answers at WALGREENS Vitamin and supplements”. Does the cashier keep the coupon or should I get it back to reuse since the coupons are Walgreens coupons?

      • Couponer

The coupons are manufacturer’s coupons with retailer redemption information so the store has to send them in to get reimbursement.

        • Mcleodsc

You are right-I looked for the redemption address. Thanks!

    • I am just learning how to coupon and  southern savers is really helping me out a whoooole lot. Thanks you guys….mrs.love

    • Stephanie

Sorry y’all. I found the vitamin coupon book today and every single one in the book expired on 5/31/12. So the Brainstrong coupon is expired. Woulda been good tho!

      • di

There is a new vitamin coupon book.  I had the old book that expired on 5/31/12 that had a $3 coupon. My Walgreens had the new books in today and I used the $4 coupon for my Brainstrong deal.

      • Heatherisbell

my walgreens has the new vitamin booklet with$100 Savings all coupons expire (next year) 05/01/13 so maybe just try another location with the new books

        • Stephanie

Im out of luck this week. I only have time to go Sunday or Monday usually and I went to both wags near my house Sunday one by my kids school after dropping them off yesterday, two near my office on my lunch break and one near the chiropractors office after my appointment last night…. Books were only in one and they were old. Oh well, can’t win them all!! Can’t say I didn’t try tho. :)

    • SuzQ

Someone told me you could use Walgreens RRs at Walmart.  Is that true?

    • SuzQ

Someone told me you could use Walgreens RRs at Walmart.  Is that true?

      • Nicole

You’d have to check with your Walmart just to be sure. I’ve heard Target is accepting them, but haven’t checked with my store yet.

      • mrn1

My WalMart doesn’t.  Besides, look at your RR, it says Redeemable Only at Walgreens.

    • Nicole

Although I haven’t read all of the comments, I just wanted to quickly note that in addition to the $4/1 Brainstrong manuf coupon in the Answers book, there’s also a $5/1 Wags coupon in the June IVC book for Brainstrong Dietary Supplement, Prenatal, 60ct or Adult 90 ct. So please disregard if this is a duplicate! Even if the $10 RR doesn’t include those listed with the $5/1, it’s still a great stacked coupon deal for $9/1!

The sale for the Brainstrong is on the Kids supplements. The $5/1 should not work.

at our local Wags, if you use a mfgr coupon (which the one for Brain strong is in the Wags coupon book) it will NOT give you a RR (cause those are actually mfgr coupons)so you either get it for $6 and no RR or don;t use the coupon in the booklet and get it for free!

That’s not how it worked on my 4 boxes.  I paid $6.90 and got $10 RR

        • Couponer

Wow, I must have received imaginary $10 RRs, too. ;-)  It’s amazing how real those $10 RRs look, though.  And they spent without any problem when buying other RR items (and using manufacturer’s coupons.)

Make sure you look at the price when your items are rung up. I went to Walgreens today and the acid reducer rang up 9.99. Took about 10-15 minutes to get a manager to the register and fix it. Luckily, the RR still printed.

That happened to me. It only took the manager about 4 mins and the RR still printed too.

O.k., now I’m stumped. In the past I have used R.R. at Publix, since it is a manufacture coupon. Last night,at Publix, I pulled out my R.R. to pay towards my groceries and they told me they can’t take them because it says,  “Redeem Only at Walgreens”.  I understand the “Only” part, but what I don’t understand is how just a week earlier they went through without any problems. Do all RR say redeemable only at Walgreens and no one has caught it until now? Or are there some RR that don’t have limitations on where they’re redeemed? You can tell I don’t pay any attention to what’s written on them, I only notice the $$….lol   I’m hoping you all can help me, because I REALLY need it. Thank-you

They all say Redeemable only at Walgreens, at one time some did and some didn’t, but for the past forever they have all said it…my Publix has not taken them in the two years I have been couponing.  I would bet they weren’t getting reimbursed for them and  corporate has told them to not accept them anymore.  Just my thoughts, no proof as some would ask of me.

Makes good sense to me. I really appreciate you responding. It has been bugging me since last night. Maybe now I can get some sleep. ..lol Thanks again!

            You’re welcome :)

You might want to give this a try. I went to Walgreens today and bought the goody headband a bottle of palmolive dish detergent. I used the .99 store coupon in the add. and a .50 palmolive coup i found in one of this past months inserts (sorry cant remember which one) anyway, the coupon is for a 20 oz or larger bottle and the .99 bottle is only 10 oz but the coupon scanned so they allowed me to do it. I did three separate transactions but got 3 headbands and 3 dish detergents for $8.10 total. with $6 in RR I only paid $2.10 for the lot. Pretty good deal

Using a coupon for a product other than indicated on the coupon is coupon fraud.  It doesn’t matter if the store allows it or not.  Jenny teaches ethical coupon use on this site and your shopping trip definitely doesn’t fit that.

I usually shop at CVS but have been wondering about shopping at walgreens.. I went there once and they said there is no store card the prices just come off. Does that mean if I buy something that prints RR its not really linked to anything..? Is there a limit on the deals? Like if I wanted to get two of each of the items listed that give back 10RR Can I use the RR already earned on the opposite items more than once..? Veryyy confused

Shopping at Walgreens can be trying.  (CVS is much easier and with the $/$$ coupons, it’s more more profitable at times.  But Walgreens has it’s moments when they throw us a $4MM like they did this week…)  There’s a Getting Started Guide on the upper right hand side of this page that will help explain some things.

Some Walgreens stores are coupon friendly and will let you do multiple transactions.  Other stores aren’t friendly at all and won’t let you purchase more than one RR item per week.  (Those stores are just shooting themselves in the foot in terms of revenue…)

Let’s say you wanted to buy 2 each of the Brainstrong and the Omega and you didn’t have coupons for any of the items.  If you were at a friendly Walgreens, you could buy a Brainstrong for $10, receive a $10 RR and use it to buy the Omega.  You’d receive a $10 RR which you could then use to purchase your second Brainstrong.  You’d then receive a $10 RR which you could use to purchase your last Omega.  You’d receive a $10 RR.

Now, you can take that $10RR and buy a $2 Goody hairband, a $2.99 Reach toothbrush and a $6 Walgreens Lansoprazole.  You’ll pay $.99 and receive $2 RR, $6 RR, $2 RR.  you can continue to do other transactions or you can tire of paying tax/trying to find things you want and decide to call it quits.  You might want to hold on to those $2 RR for the coming week or the following week because you can use them on Nivea or on Suave shampoo.

Once you get the hang of it transactions are fairly smooth.  It’s when you have manufacturer’s coupons and need fillers that things get a bit more complicated.  Plus, RRs expire in two weeks – it’s rare to find a manager who will accept them even a day past expiration.

If i wanted to get more than one of the goody hair accessories that give 2RR, would it only give me one or would it print one for each package?
