I’ve shared all the awesome freebies this week at CVS, but don’t miss out on some great gift card money makers too.  They may not look free since they require an out of pocket expense, but if you need things or plan to give gifts from these stores then they are well worth grabbing!

cvs paypal moneymaker

First, head to the CVS My Weekly Ad and see if you have this deal listed.  If you do them jump up and down and run to CVS!

Grab a PayPal MasterCard and load $150 on it.  You’ll also owe a $4.95 activation fee.  In the end you’ll get a $50 ExtraCare Buck!  You can then head to any store and use this $150 on anything you were already going to spend.  In the end, you made $44!

Other Gift Card Money Makers:

Get $20 ECB when you buy  $75 in iTunes Cards

Get $25 ECB when you buy $100 in Gap, Banana Republic or Old Navy gift cards

    • Kelly

Wow! So this PayPal card is just a regular debit card you can use anywhere?

      • Karen Simpson-Wedding

I don’t see this offer in my ad! What page is it on?

        • Kelly

I think it’s only in the online ad at cvs.com, my store shows it there but not in the paper ad. Can we apply our ECBs to purchase this?

        • Marty O

The MasterCard offer doesn’t show in the circular but the other card rewards show on page 10. If you look at the circular online the MC offer shows there under ECB rewards.

          • LuvthisStuff

It shows online Weekly add. Not the flyer…

      • Judy Kalley

Yes, It is a Mastercard. Take it black Friday and spend it anywhere!

    • Karen Simpson-Wedding

I do not see the Paypal deal in the circular!

      • sally

It’s found in the online ad under your zip, not in the print ad. It IS available in store despite not being in the print ad. That’s why she put a link to the CVS weekly ad online. If it’s not found under your zip, then it’s not available at that store.

    • StephEast

Can you roll these ECB? For instance can you buy the Paypal Card and then use the 50ECB on the iTunes or Gap cards? I’ve been couponing for years now but haven’t been to CVS in awhile so I’m a little rusty on their policys.

      • MoolaSavingMom

Some people have been able to use ECB to buy the other cards.

      • sally

I have always been told in the past that ecb’s couldn’t be used towards tobacco, alcohol or gift cards. I’m not sure if that’s actually true though bc some of the people who have worked at our CVS haven’t been the smartest!

    • MoolaSavingMom

The Paypal gift card deal is not as simple as it seems- first there is a $4.95 fee to BUY the card. Then within 48 hours they will deduct $4.95 from the card for maintenance fees. There is a $4.95/mo fee on the card as long as there is a balance. If the card goes unused for 3 months there is an additional monthly fee. You must provide your SS#, DOB, address and telephone number to activate the gift card. Many stores are showing it as a limit 2.

Also many people are reporting the ecb is NOT printing for them and the gift card is non-refundable so keep that in mind.

      • Kathy

I definitely wouldn’t give my SS# to activate a prepaid card!! Not sure it would be worth it! Has anyone else encountered this?

        • You only have to give your SS# to use it at an ATM. I used it right away with no SS number needed at Walmart.

          • Rocky

So you didn’t have go on line to finish activating the card. When I went on line it asked for my ss, address and phone number

          • Dani

Jenny, I went to my CVS this morning and thèy said corporate has pulled this deal but it seems it is still working for others. Should I give corporate a call?

          • manuela

do you just activate the card online without SS to use it? I tried using it without activaction, as credit, and it didn’t go through. I would like to use it as a temporary card, not as a debit card.

            • mel1

I did the same thing, but it seems as if you need to activate it. I’m still trying to figure this whole thing out! Jenny, can you explain any more? Thanks!

          • Kristy

I bought mine 2 hours ago and it worked. I am confusing about using it though. Jenny, I see it says to go online to activate and they will send a card to me. The card is a temporary I guess. I was hoping to use it in the next few days. So hopefully I can use the temporary. Please help.

            • MoolaSavingMom

You either have to call or go online to activate it. Yes this a temp. card. A ‘real’ card with your name will be arriving in the mail. Within 24 hours of activating it they are going to deduct another $4.95 in fees (did it in less than 2 hours on my card). You can use the temporary card as a debit card just like the one with your name on it that’s coming.

              Hope that helps.

    • Judy Kalley

The pay pal deal is NOT advertized but the stores do know about it and it does work. I did mine yesterday and then used those EBC’s to buy alll the stuff that gets you new EBC’s. It is awesome. I literally came home with all sorts of FREE stuff.

    • Sandy Reynolds

It was not advertised at my store….. and the ECB did not print and the clerk would not push it through…. and would not take back the prepaid card….

      • Joey L

My wife tried to buy it this morning and it did not print the $50 ECB. The manager issued a cash refund after I told them she didn’t want it. You should be able to tell the manager to issue you a refund since the deal was advertised on CVS website.

    • Kelly

Can we put our ECBs toward the PayPal Mastercard purchase?

      • happyshopper

They wouldn’t let me use any ecb’s on my purchase. still a great deal! Pay 154.95 get a card (after fees) a $145.05 and $50 ecbs!! I already spent mine shopping online for Christmas and plan to use the rest at the grocery store this week then cancel! Great deal!

    • Amanda

now don’t you have to use all of the $50 ecb in one transaction???? I could do it but would have to work at that one…….

      • KatRand

I am wondering the same thing, Amanda!

      • Joey L

You will not get the different back. You will lose any unused portion.

    • Cindy Duncan Jones

So does the $50 ECB come as one, so you have to use it in one transcation?

      • mel1

        That’s right.

    • CrazyforYeshua

I’ve been following this deal on Slickdeals.net, and there are people that are ridiculous. They are starting multiple reward accounts, and walking away with hundreds in ECB’s…I think it ruins it for everybody else, besides you might not find any of these cards at the store, because they’ve taken them all.

    • mary

does the ecb $50 card have an expiration date?

      • Christina Schaff

        yes. mine said 12/24

    • Cyndi Bowman Jackson

just for information, I bought some gift cards for a special walgreens deal last year and the rewards did not print. The manager on duty couldn’t make them print and the cards were un-refundable. I called the 1-800 number, and the next day the store manager called for me to come pick up my rewards certificates. So if it doesn’t work, call the cooperate number before forfieting 50 bucks.

    • Kelly

Just got back from CVS, purchased the prepaid PayPal Mastercard, put $150 on it. Had some difficulties because the registrar forgot to scan my CVS card so they had to refund me my money and then ring it in again but the $50 ECB did print out. It does expire, on 12/25. The deal was not advertised even in store but the store personnel knew about it.

    • Olga

This is an amazing deal! My pocket won’t even feel it because I’m going to use the card to buy groceries and gas :)

    • Jamie Benfield

I was able to purchase one Sunday AM. Then when I used $50 ECB’s they said all the cards had been pulled because corporate pulled the deal. Was not aware of the extra $4.95 fee but it did come out. I will be paying a bill with this card so I can get rid of it quickly. So it did cost $9.90…. $4.95 up front and the $4.95 was taking out of my initial $150. I used my Extra bucks on a Philip Norelco Shaver and Wahl Hair trimmer after coupons and ECB’s I paid $11.76 for all (includes paypal fees). Overall I am very happy.

    • Anna Greer

I got the paypal/mastercard I paid $154.95 then my balance on the card was $145.05….Did this happen to anyone else??? I got my ECB but wasn’t expecting to pay activation twice.

      • MoolaSavingMom

      • Kelly

Hmmm, I just checked my balance and it said it was $150.

    • Dani

Just got back from CVS. The store manager said they are discontinuing this promotion.

    • pdnr

I would never be able to use the $50 in ECB all at one time! It’s hard enough for me to use a $10 ECB at one time.

    • lavonda

Here is a thought too…buy the Paypal card get your 50ecbs then go back and use the paypal card to buy 4 $25.00 old navy giftcards get another 25 ecbs and you will still have $50.00 on the card to use elsewhere

    • melissa edge

Does anyone know if they are still running this or if it has been pulled?

      • cynthia

hi the deal is still on
        Cynthia

        • stacey

worked for me in charlotte, nc

          • melissa edge

I got it!!! The cashier and even manager were totally unaware of the deal so I pulled up the CVS site and plugged in the store and showed them. I got it as we all crossed our fingers! This was an awesome find!

    • Never_Speechless

I refuse to pay monthly fee’s on a pre paid debit card. Even to make a few dollars. American Express has a prepaid card you can buy that you don’t have to give your SS# and the only charge is when you buy the card. I’ve used them before.

      • Never_Speechless

So this card cost 5- to buy….5- to activate it before you can use it then another 5- monthly fee if you don’t use it within 48 hours. How silly.

        • hokiedad

Just activate the first one and use it to buy the second one right away. Once you buy and activate the second one, go straight to an ATM and withdraw the money. You will have to pay 4.95 + 4.95 + ATM ($2-$3) in order to make $100 in about 10 minutes. Pretty silly NOT to do it.

    • marnieh

I just did it and it worked. It was $154.95 and it looks like they will take out another $4.95. That said I can use the $50 to get all the black Friday deals at one time and use the rest on toilet paper. Even if you just bought toilet paper it would be $50 worth for $10 (more if you have the 25% off.) Seems like a good deal to me!

      • lidia

Are you talking about the 25% off the entire site, that came in the email? Can that be used in the stores somehow? Or how could this card deal be done online, due to the extra bucks that need to print out? Any suggestions?

        • marnieh

It was an email and it was for in store. The 25% off would be on non-sale items you buy in store with the $50 ECB. Not everyone got the email. I did but I didn’t load it in time.

      • mel1

I haven’t added up all the Black Friday deals… do you know what they add up to? Will I still have to come up with fillers to get to $50?

    • Marie

Just so that ya’ll have the information…. CVS policy does not allow you to use a prepaid card to purchase gift cards. This has become an issue and notice has been sent to check for this when the customer is checking out!!

      • sj

I used my Pay Pal card today to purchase I Tunes cards and it worked like a charm. I activated the Pay Pal card about 10 mins before use. So I ended up with $70 in ECBS. HTH

    • Toni

If you purchase the Paypal Prepaid MasterCard, you will have to provide your social security number and other personal information if you want to activate the card, due to the “Patriot” Act. ( I won’t buy this card, knowing that. It’s the principle of the thing.) If you choose to not activate the card, its value will expire in 120 days. I was thinking of giving this to someone as a gift, but no thank you. It would expire in 120 days! What kind of a gift would that be? I’ll give a non-reloadable VISA card. Office Max has a Black Friday deal on those–save $20 off $200.

    • Sheri

These had been pulled from the shelves at my CVS

      • Pan

        Where are you located?

        • Sheri

          virginia

          • mel1

I’m in central VA and just bought one. Manager said I was the first person to do so. Worked for me.

            • debbie

I tried in Colonial Heights and Petersburg and was told “we’re not allowed to sell them”. What store in VA did you go to Sheri and mel1?

            • mel1

I’m in the middle of nowhere–probably 2 hours from you. :) But I just read above that someone talked to someone at corporate and they said they pulled the deal? I never know what to believe. I mean, I believe they were told that, but why is it still working at some stores and not at others? Wish they would just be consistent about it.

            • hokiedad

Mine worked in Mechanicsville yesterday, on Cox Road this morning and On Staples Mill Road & Hungary this afternoon. (I told all my coworkers about it and they ran right out and did it themselves!) Some CVS’s were out or had very few left.

            • hokiedad

    • Christina Schaff

Sooooooo glad I didn’t go shopping yesterday and did the paypal card today!!! I have $150 to spend for Friday and used the $50 to get all of the ecb deals for just $3.23 and still have $29.56 ECB’s to spend!!! wooo hoo!

      • stacey

(FYI)if you plan on waiting to use the card balance on friday you will get charged 4.95. They charge you the monthy main. fee after the first 36 hours :( Robbery

        • me

NOT true because i activated my card today and i told them that i dont have a social security # and they do have two option to active the card, one with the ss# and the other one without, so i choose the second option the only thing is with the second option i can NOT use the card online only at the stores, but that was what I planned to do anyways SHOP AT WALMART THIS FRIDAY and the other thing is with the second choice is only have 90 days to use your balance but that was perfect for me and I didnt give my SS# AND NO WORRIES about any fees… yyaaaayy me HTH!

          • me

im sorry my bad is 120 days not 90 .. sorry

            • Kristy

So do you not have to pay the second $4.95 if you say no SS number? Everyone keeps mentioning a monthly maintenance fee. Should I wait to activate until the day I use it. I wonder if that will avoid the fee. I want to use it in the stores on Friday or this weekend.

            • yourbilletdoux

It says 36 hours from time of purchase so you probably need to activate now.

            • Anna Greer

SUCKS for me I brought one paid $154.95 soon as I activated it my balance was $145.05. Thought about buying another one with the card and some cash and maybe using someone’s referral code or maybe my own.

    • mommaKTCH

Just worked for me!! when you activate your card if you use referral number 2461072675 you will receive a $5 credit on your account and I will too.

      • marnieh

I tried to use it but it kept saying account not found. Bummer for us both!

    • marnieh

I have a referral code that you can use to get $5. 7758548523

      • lindsey

i used your code, thanks!! :)

        • kendrabrown

          Just used it!

    • Judy

I know there are a TON of questions and I have looked through and don’t see this one- has or will anyone try to see if their Harris Teeter will accept the 50 ECB as a competitor’s coupon? Just wondering if I should try this :)

      • Allison

Harris Teeter does not accept any drug store coupons. Only grocery store coupons for $ off the total and it has to be AFTER all other coupons.

    • Keenia Bowden

Anyone in Northern Cali-Bay area … I think mine have been pulled?

    • Joey L

I got the $50 ECB cash back yesterday. My wife went to the same CVS store and tried to purchase it with a her CVS card (different account) and it didn’t print. The manager said it is discontinued.

    • joyhenderson

Bought in Columbia, SC. Worked perfectly. Did not have to give my SS. And I just used it for an online purchase. Excited for paypal and CVS to partner up to do this. Can’t wait to use my ECB for stocking stuffers!

      • Kristy

I just bought one too in Columbia. How does this work though. Do you have to go online or call to activate? I’m confused it says that this is a temporary and they will mail the card to me. Thanks for any help you might have. I am hoping to use to help save on a 3ds for Christmas present my daughter. I was thinking that I would use in store though.

        • mel1

Haven’t used mine yet (just sent it with my husband to try at the gas pump) but it says on the front of the package 1. Activate 2. Add Money and 3. Use It. The cashier at CVS activated it and added money to it. I assume I can just use it. Will let you know if it works without going online to activate it again.

          • Kristy

Ok thanks. Yeah I thought we could just use it right away. I looked back at the package it came in and I think you have to call before using. Someone said that you don’t have to give you social security number though. So I might try looking online to see if there is more info. I haven’t found anything yet. I do see that some people have referral codes to avoid fees. Either way it’s a great deal even if you pay 2 fees.

            • mel1

I agree. It’s a good deal either way. I was hoping to avoid having to give my SS # and it sounds like I don’t have to. BTW, he wasn’t able to use it at the gas pump. He chose credit–maybe it was supposed to be used as debit. I don’t know. Guess I’ll have to call and activate it.

            • nymomnfla

Use it as a debit. You must pick out a pin when you are having the card activated.

            • Kristy

Hmm not sure. I am going to try activating tomorrow and say I dont want to use SS number. I think I read on here if you use within 36 hours you don’t pay a fee. Not sure. Some people have referral codes to avoid fees.

            • lucky

got one yesterday, activated it around 1pm this morning by 10am was charge again another fee. went to walmart got cash back still have about $15 left. i choose to deactivate it and got charge again. the remaining balance will get mailed to me.

    • Karen Simpson-Wedding

The card is not available at my store even though it is in the ad on line at their web site. It is not in their paper ad…I live in the St. Louis area.

      • Kristy

Mine wasn’t in the ad either in Columbia SC but I looked at the online ad for my area.

    • Chadbek

I am in the South FL area. It pulled up on cvs.com when I put in my zip. The first cvs I went to I bought the card and the nice cashier forgot to scan my eb card:(. After the cashier telling me of other ppl doing the deal the manager arrives and tells me that it is a scam. I showed her my printout from cvs.com and she didn’t care. I left and called corporate. The lady in CS told me I was fine and they would send my EB on Friday. I’m noticing that stores are pulling them though. :(

    • Rebadarlene

      does paypal charge for transactions

    • aliceneasley

I just spoke with a CVS customer service agent at 888-607-4287, and the Paypal promotion has been cancelled as of today for all CVS locations. Apparently, some locations were having issues with the promotion/ECBs ringing up correctly. She said they have no word yet whether it will be reinstated! :(

      • aliceneasley

She also stated that some stores pulled the Paypal cards from shelves just to avoid confusion…

      • I just bought one today in Greenville SC, so it was either reinstated or not all locations pulled it. It also seems like you can do 2 per CVS card, so I may get one more.

    • Krysta

I bought one today and activated it over the phone. I told them I didn’t have a social security number and they limit it to in store purchases. I went straight to bilo, purchased a few groceries and did the cash back and got the rest of my money back. :)

      • Krysta

They also told me that they got an email about people rolling them to rack up bookoos of extra care bucks.

        • nymomnfla

The limit is two per CVS card. I did this twice and cashed out with a manager and had no problems and no beeps. I received $50.00 ECB’s both times without any having to be force printed. It is an awesome deal!

      • Kristy

So do you have to pay a fee if you do it right away? I would rather use it in store and not use my social security number. I figure if I can’t find what I need right away for a good price. That I will buy a gift card for a store that I know I will spend a lot of money on a Black Friday.

        • krysta

They may charge a fee on the first of December for the new month if you do not use it. You pay an activation fee when you buy the card at cvs. hence the 154.95. I did not wait to find out, i went immediately to bilo and did cash back so i didn’t risk loosing any money.

          • Kristy

Ok great, so maybe if I use it tomorrow I won’t have to pay the extra $4.95. I am so excited about this deal I was hoping to find a nintendo 3DS XL for a good deal. So hopefully I can save about $80 to $90 if my plan works out. I might try to get a gift card for 1 of the 2 store I will shop at this weekend. Thanks for up your help.

    • Yourbilletdoux

I just got this to work in Huntsville Alabama. There were two cards hidden by store employees I think but I got one!

    • Heather

To everyone agonizing over how to spend $50 in ECB at CVS … Please just call me and I will help you lol. It’s FREE! Get toilet paper, fragrances, an electric shaver, or that expensive wrinkle cream you’ve always wanted! Whatever!

    • pan

The deal is still working at CVS in Columbia SC

    • ericswifeowensmom

9193291912 If anyone registers the Paypal mastercard, please use my referral code.

      • Jamielynn

        Thanks just used your code!

    • nymomnfla

I went to CVS here in Houston and the deal was still active with a limit of two per household. I purchased a $150.00 PayPal card received $50.00 in ECB’s. I went to my truck and activated the card by calling the number on the card. Then I went back into CVS used the card I just activated and used my only CVS card and purchased another card and received another $50.00. Nothing beeped and there were still plenty of cards left. I think a lot of people didn’t want to go out in heavy rain. The deal is 2 per household so initially you would be paying $150.00 plus $4.95 to activate each card. Great deal!!!

      • Kelly

That’s a great idea. I am going to go back and get another card. I wonder if you could do the refer-a-friend thing with your 2nd card and have both cards get $5…..

        • klb

I tried that and it denied it. try registering second card under husband or sibling possibly? but they know its you because of the info you give at activation

          • nymomnfla

            What was denied?

          • Kelly

I will try doing it under my husband’s info and see what happens, thanks for the advice.

      • Christina

So you got two using your same CVS card both times? And they loaded $100 in ECBs onto your card?

        • nymomnfla

Yes $50.00 each time. On my receipt is said I still had $150.00 to reach the limit. I cashed out with a manager and there were no beeps and the ECB’s printed. There was no force printing. I hope that helps.

Deal still worked in charleston, sc cvs tonight, but i wish i had known about the additional fee and the hassle to activate (i am on hold now and have been for over 40 minutes). Got a free sonicare out of the deal but not sure it’s worth it…

      • JSSMommy

Hang up and activate online. Takes about 2 minutes.

        • Kristy

Do you have to give your social security if activating online?

      • yourbilletdoux

I agree. I should have read the back of the package but I was just amazed at the deal. According to other forums, some people are getting the second $4.95 as soon as a day after buying the card, even before activation. I just used my balance up tonight and put an email in to paypal to see if I can close the account before incurring charges. It’s a good lesson for me to look before I leap.

Deal still worked in Montgomery, AL. I bought two cards and received 50ECB for each card. I had no problems at all.

      • jill simmons

which store to you go to? Zelda?

        • Ssheets

          Ray Thorington off Taylor Road.

I got the paypal mastercard deal today at the Dickson, TN CVS. They had lots left but I only wanted 1. My ECB worked. Now my only question is do you have to activate in online to use it at all in a store, or can you skip that part. I want to use it on black friday or I saw someone went to walmart bought something and got the rest of their money back in cash. How does that work. Can I buy gum and get the rest back in cash? Or something more substantial?

    • Kristy

I was searching this deal info online. Someone on another site said to ask for “limited use” when activating in order to avoid the fee. I haven’t tried yet but will tomorrow.

      • deb

correct…i activated two cards. I did have to insist to not give my SS #. Finally, the “Limited Use” was offered. I had to be put on hold for a manager to activate my 2nd card and was given a random pin. All in all, very easy just took about 15 minutes to activate both.

        • karen

          deb
I tried for hours to activate my card without giving SS#. I caledl toll free numbers and about 10 in the (402) area code only one person picked up the rest I either left a message or the number was already DCed. Nobody could help. Could you give me the number to call? It would be so helpful. Thanks Karen

6856562975 If anyone registers the Paypal mastercard, please use my referral code, 6856562975 and we should each get $5. I just used a code listed below, lets keep it rolling. Happy Holidays!

    • Kimberlyn

Beware. You pay $4.95 upfront to buy the card before loading and here I am, less than 24 hours out from when I activated it, and they charged me ANOTHER $4.95 monthly fee.
I am livid. $10 for using a card that you have had less than 24 hours. I will use up the balance and buy a Walmart card quickly tonight and close that thing out.

      • lucky

the same thing happened to me, and got charged again another fee for closing it out

    • Lisa

I just paid for the card, got the extra bucks. Activated card in two minutes online, then filled up both cars with gas. Pretty easy.

    • Anna Greer

5492608168 my referral code gets both of us $5….one of our $4.95 fees back.

      • Kristy

I just used your referral code. Thanks. I hope it works for the both of us. :)

      • emme

        i used yours, thanks

      • Kristy

Sorry I don’t think my using your code will work. I am not going to load the card they mail me. I called paypal and the redemption code only works if you load to the new card they mail you. Either way this is a good deal. I am going to go use my $145 to buy a new gift card at Target for Black Friday. Lol

    • shelia

where does the referal code come from?

    • nina21007

Is this deal still going on in Central, VA?

    • CW

Referral Code: 3473489985 We both Get $5

    • amywindland

I used mine to pay my husbands student loan bill. All 150.00 immediately so I would not loose any of my credit.

      • Kristy

How did you activate. I activated online and used a referral code. When I called for the balance it said $145. It hasn’t been 24 hours since I bought it at CVS.

        • amywindland

I saw that some were having the issues with balance, so I charged mine out within half an hour of activation, which I did online. I already have an account with Paypal to process credit cards for my business, so I was not worried about the ss#.

    • amywindland

BTW, Broad River Rd location is now out. And they do not offer a rain check. Lake Murry still has them, that is where I was able to find mine. They had ten left.

      • Christina

This was today? And Lake Murray did the ECB deal? Because it’s not in Lake Murray’s online ad anymore…

        • kendrabrown

Lake Murray just unpacked some for me. Tall thin white male super nice!!!!

          • amywindland

cool. yeah, I had no issues there.

    • Christine

Two things with the PayPal card deal! Some stores are not showing it in their ad, but it is working in the store. If it doesn’t work, you can call 800-shopcvs and get it corrected. BUUUUUUT I was just told they are pulling the deal after today because there have been so many problems! So Hurry and get it now!!

      • Christina

It’s been pulled from my ad even though it was there YESTERDAY. Do you think the deal will still ring up correctly in the store even though it’s not in the ad anymore? How will I know if I’ll be given the ECBs before I purchase the paypal card?

    • emme

hey, refer us and get $5 for both of us! 8647735221 thanks alot!

      • P Wolfort

i just used your referral code

      • sarah

so how does this work? what is the referral code for? do you buy the card in store and then have to go online to activate it? is that when i would use that code? confused!

    • P Wolfort

      • joyce

I just used your code! Thanks!

      • joyce

Have a question. I tried to purchase a card with my first card last night using the paypal card as a debit and the register wouldn’t accept it. Can someone help. I am going to try again today at the only store that has any left and wondered what to do about payment. Do I scan the first card as a credit card, or how do I cash the card out into cash. Can I do that at any atm? Sorry but I am a novice on using these cards! Thanks and help is very appreciated!

      • K Edmonds

        I used your code. THX

    • P Wolfort

according to the papers that came w/ the card they are not supposed to deduct 4.95 fee unless its 90 days dormant

    • Olga

I got my card yesterday. I noticed that some friends of mine don’t have it listed on their deals. That might be why the 50 ECBs aren’t printing for everyone. Jenny do you know if everyone can do this or just certain customers? Also the monthly fee applies if the card has been inactive for 90 days. You give them all your info because they send you an actual card with your name on it. It’s almost like a “bank account” . You can make cash withdrawals using a PIN. If you do it from an ATM there are ATM fees associated with it.

    • Kristy

I called Paypal and the referral code will only work if you let them mail you a card and load money to it. You are probably better off calling and activating for limited use like some people have said. I was told that they charge a monthly maintenance fee on December 25th. I activated online and then called to get the balance which was $145.05. Either way it’s a good deal. So if you don’t want to wait on hold you might have to pay the maintenance fee when you activate online.

    • Olga

Please use m referral code when you register your card! 7207069549 , I get $5 and so do you!

    • Kim Dempsey Kolarik

Do you have to use cash or a debit card to get this deal? I was going to buy a few other things and use my Visa Credit Card. Unsure if I can get a gift card with credit card?

      • SC

Yes you can! Hubby just did it & it is working still, and he used a credit card to pay.

      • stephanie

I used my american express to get 3x points on my pharmacy purchase.

    • Andrea

Anyone know if this is working in MS, if I try it, can I return card if it does not work?

    • Jem

Just did it by phone in N Ga with no SS#. Said it was like a “gift card” but no problem using it at Walmart they said. We shall see. No opp for giving a ref # on the phone. They spoke English better than most phone service centers too.

    • Tarantula

I got the PayPal card last night and it turned out really awesome!!! I put $150 on it and got my $50 ECBs instantly, then activated my card online while I was at CVS. Yes they charge the activation fee, big deal – I still made $45 profit.

I used those $50 ECBs plus $21 ECBs previously earned, plus $10 beauty ECBs and 25% off coupon added to my card (which still worked yesterday, even though it was supposed to expire on Sunday), plus all kinds of CVS and manufacturer Qs. I bought over $220 worth of stuff in 3 different transactions – my OOP on each transaction was: $0.47, $0.20, and $0.00!!!

I also left with $18 ECBs for next time, as well as expecting $1 back from SavingStar, and I have enough purchases to complete my $15 MIR for P&G, so I’m happy as a pig in mud :) And then I went to Walmart and stocked up on all sorts, using my PayPal prepaid card to pay for it all. This morning I closed the PayPal card as it was empty.

Hope that helps with questions or concerns!!

used your code and nothing happened…my balance still says $150 so now I am just confused :)

    • Greta

I just got the deal in AL. I used it for all the “free” deals, and a few other things I needed. When I activated my card online and it shows I have $150 in the account. As long as I don’t have any trouble spending the $150 it should be a great deal.

      • Greta

Here is my refer a friend code for $5 for me and you. 4706139893 It didn’t work when I used someone’s code to activate my card, but maybe it will work for you.

    • Stephanie

I am thoroughly confused…I already paid the $4.95 at CVS but is there way out of paying the extra $4.95 when you register it?

    • disqus_gc4AacoqhE

    • Jan Swanson

Does anyone know if they charge a per transaction fee on the Paypal? Or a per month maintenance fee?

      • Kristy

You should call when you activate. I think some people recommended asking for a limited use and didn’t want to give their social security number. I had a $4.95 monthly fee deducted before I had it a day. I actually called for a balance right after I activated online. They can charge fees for other things. I wasn’t worried about the SS# because I already had a paypal account and had given it to them before. The customer service rep said that the $4.95 fee would save me in the end. Lol. That they can charge a per transaction fee of $2.

        • Toni Woodbury

I asked to waive the permanent card, not give my SS number, and just use the temporary card only. They said NO. I think the paypal prepaid mastercard website says the opposite, though. I’ll go back and check it again.

    • Kristy

Be careful using referral codes they can only be used once I was told by Paypal. I initially activated online with a referral code. I would recommend calling in to activate and tell them you just want to use it one time or something. Make sure to ask about fees. My balance went to $145.05 and I went to target and bought a gift card. I called to find out about the referral fee and cancel the card. I was told that referral code was already used so it wouldn’t work. I asked to talk to a supervisor and he said that they will automatically charge the $4.95 monthly fee. He seemed like he wouldn’t refund the fee or give me credit for the referral code. I tried ending the call and said so there is nothing you can do about the fee? And he said well since you have already cancelled we can refund the $4.95 by mail. So I said thank you for your help and hung up. Still not sure that they will process the refund though. Lol. Either way it is a good deal.

    • Aaron W.

I am happy to have taken the $40.10 profit out of this (it paid for my BF stuff on Sunday — now I have a ton of ECB’s to use on other stuff)… BUT — lets pretend CVS didn’t give you a $50… total ripoff!!! $4.95 at the register … another $4.95 the next day — a laundry list of other fees if you can’t get your money off the card in time… I really feel for people that need to rely on these cards (or that use them not thinking or caring about the horrible fees)… I also missed out on the referral because I saw this thread too late with people’s referral codes in it — but that is okay.. I only use paypal for ebay transactions and other rare situations due to knowing the practices of ebay/paypal — and would only do this deal in the future to get the $50 (and spend the money within 24 hours so I don’t get another surprise like I did with the second $4.95 fee)…

      • jem

Yes I got charger the second 4.95 fee too two hours after I activated it. Earlier on this posting it said they would wait a day, but they don’t. I bought gift cards at Walmart with it for black Friday.

      • Toni Woodbury

I was hit with the additional monthly service fee well within the first 24 hrs. after purchasing the temporary card. The agreement states they will hit you with it WITHIN 36 hrs., meaning they can hit you with it immediately if they want to.

    • Kat1177

Can someone tell me if the barcode/number for the Paypal card is 799366834045. I would just like to know if I am buying the right card.

    • Amanda

Does anyone know if this deal is still working today?

    • ashlynn

Is it under household in the online ad?

    • kate

They changed the prepaid Paypal card deal, no longer offering the 50.00 ECB on the “my weekly ad”

    • Karen Simpson-Wedding

My CVS changed it to a prepaid a MyVanilla Prepaid Visa….and then they gave me 2 $25 CVS Xtrabucks today! The fee was $3.95 and I found it annoying to register the card, but I guess it was worth it in the long run. I was also able to buy 2.

    • kim9507

I did this deal at my CVS store in Bedford, Virginia yesterday. It did not show up in the local printed ad but was on the website for Bedford, Virginia. I asked the store manager Cynthia who by the way is the bomb always friendly, helpful, etc. about the paypal deal and she said they had received a call from corporate and this deal would run sometime into January. I got my $50.00 EB but was charged a 4.95 fee for the 1st month use. I not complaining because I still ended up to the good for $40.10. Thanks Jenny!

      • Lori

My store is showing that it runs through 11/30.

    • Susan

Thank you again Jenny for telling us about this. The $50ECB plus the 25% off coupon enabled me to get for free some pretty expensive o-t-c eyedrops that our insurance doesn’t cover. (plus a razor, mouthwash, and colgate toothpaste!)

    • disqus_gc4AacoqhE

Thanks Jenny! this deal was awesome….I used my $50 ecb on other items that would earn me more bucks…I purchased listerine, visine, orbit gum, 5 react gum, gum toothbrushes, colgate toothpaste, right guard deodorant, advil, venus razor, cvs razor and total home laundry detergent plus i had cvs coupons and mfg coupons…..and i walked out with $34 ecb and I spent a total of .64

      • Tarantula

Your shopping trip sounds almost the same as mine! I got $220+ of stuff for less than $0.70 and left with plenty of ECBs and MIRs to do! :) Yay for Jenny’s hard work, helping us all!!

    • tiffany

I just went to my CVS and it was in the sales ad but when they rang it up it wouldn’t give us the $50 ecb even with the managers help she didn’t know why it wouldn’t work

      • Robin Stringfellow

Be careful of which Paypal card you pick up, there are like three different Paypal cards!

        • Toni

We were not allowed to choose, in our store. The cards were behind the register, and you had to ask for them. You took what you were handed. We did not know that there were three kinds to choose from! Maddening.

      • Lori

I just picked one up. My cashier made me use cash to buy it, and it did not ring up the ECB’s. She called a manager over, and she forced a $20, $20, and $10 ECB for me.

    • Monica

My CVS here in Florida did the deal with the MyVanilla card and gave me 2 $25 ECB’s. I authorized the card via the company’s online site and it was VERY easy to do so. Also, I like that it was a VISA, rather than a MC. I asked the manager if alot of people were doing it and he said No, because no one knew about it (wasn’t in our local ad I don’t think).

      • Jessica

where in FL im here also!!

        • Monica

          Deland

      • Robin Stringfellow

I went to three CVS before one of them told me I could substitute for either the MyVanilla or another card. If the store you go to is out of the Paypal cards – ASK about the substitute!

    • Jan Swanson

I called the Paypal customer service for this card and they told me that the only way to save on the 4.95 extra fee after purchasing the card was to activate the card by phone and tell them you would like to activate it it as a gift card. It will have no cash draw and no fee and will expire in 120 days.

      • Toni

If that is true, then I was lied to over and over. I called to activate the card as a temporary gift card only, and to waive the permanent card coming in the mail, and customer service said that was impossible. They said I did not have such options as you describe.

    • Stephanie

Does anyone know if I can use my ECB’s to buy the gift card?

      • Laren Erasmus

        you can not

    • Claudia Cruz

is this deal going to run thru saturday? or does it run also on next week ad??? does any one no?

    • debbiecake4

I am very interested in doing this deal. I cannot find it in my local ad. Does anyone know if it is available in Virginia CVS stores?

    • CVS-lover

Purchased the paypal deal last night at my store in Blue Ridge, GA. The signs were up saying the deal was good through today. They had to force the ECB to print, but I got it! Activated card last night and by this morning they had taken 4.95 service fee, used the remainder to pay on credit card bill and then immediately called and cancelled the card and closed the account, you have to do both! Make sure your payment has cleared before calling to cancel, if you use it in a store and use your PIN it will clear immediately, but if you use it online it may take a few days! I am thrilled and can’t wait to spend my bucks at cvs! Loving me some CVS! Who needs to Wal-Mart, they have never paid me to shop with them!

      • Toni

Really? Because I used mine only IN STORE and immediately, within a couple of minutes after activating it, spending the full amt. in that one transaction and bringing the balance to zero. I used a pin. But when I then called immediately, and again and again over the next several days, to cancel my card, they would not cancel it. They stated that the transaction had not yet gone through.

    • Lisa

The CVS in Acworth, GA, said that the deal ended on Wednesday when I called. They were one of the few stores that even had the debit cards still in stock. I called back and told the supervisor that I saw online that it was good through Saturday (yesterday). He put me on hold and said that I was correct. When I got there several hours later to buy the debit card, he was not there. The supervisor on duty told me that the deal ended on Wednesday per corporate. He rang up the debit card and no extra care bucks printed. I told him that I drove all the way over there because the supervisor that morning told me that the deal was still good. He called him (he was from another store) and confirmed that he told me that. He did say that the supervisor that morning was wrong, but that he would go ahead and give the me rewards. He printed off two $25 rewards. As soon as I got home and activated the card, I rushed up to Kroger and bought several Target and restaurant gift cards with the debit card before Paypal could take out the $4.95 activation fee. I was relieved when I saw that I was able to use the entire $150 and the activation fee had not gone through yet.

    • amywindland

In the mail today I received a paypal mastercard debit, with my name on it, and I thought I was just getting a prepaid one time use card. WTH is this?!?!?!?! You try and call the number, and cannot get anyone on the phone. Anyone else having this issue?

      • LizInDallas

I bought two and then got 2 cards in the mail. Have no idea what we are supposed to do. I’m worried now that they opened lines. Hoping someone can help us.

        • Toni

I have a question. Have either of you already canceled your temporary card yet? Did you by chance cancel your temporary card and yet still receive the permanent card in the mail in spite of that?

I’m just as new as you are– to this bank that everyone is dealing with here.

Read all of the fine print in the cardholder agreement that you agreed to when you registered the card. The agreement is on a large piece of paper folded up to about the size of the card and included in the packaging.

Did the agreement tell about the permanent card that would come in the mail in about 10 days?

If you didn’t read the agreement, know that it told you that you would be charged $4.95 EACH MONTH that you own the card, forever, unless, of course, they want to change the rules on you and charge you more, which the agreement says they can do. They are allowed to change the rules. I chide myself when I reflect that even a child playing marbles knows better than to agree to let his opponent in the game change the rules of the game anytime it suits him.

The first $4.95 monthly charge was posted to your card account within the first 36 hrs. after you registered your temporary card, UNLESS you brought the card balance to zero BEFORE they had the chance to do this–in which case you won’t be hit with the first monthly charge as long as you never load any more money on the card and as long as you cancel your card now. Call to cancel your card right away.

As far as not being able to get anyone on the phone to cancel your card (the problem amywindland, above, has had), keep trying, and let us know what happens. We will see if this company is reputable or not, depending on whether or not they let you easily cancel your permanent card once all your transactions have gone through. (Transactions go through about three business days after your transaction.) They should cancel it no problem.

      • Toni

Keep trying to get someone on the phone. I called them today and they told me that since I had canceled the temporary card, the permanent one that would come in the mail was already canceled, too, because even though the new card has a different number, both it and the temporary card applied to the same account, and it is the account that has been closed. I asked over and over again and worded it very carefully, and they assured me that my account was closed, it was not open, and that when the new card would arrive in the mail, it would not be connected to an open account, because the account had been closed.

        • Toni

(The exact wording they affirmed to me was that since I had canceled the temporary card, I no longer had any open accounts with them–none at all.)

    • Toni

Jenny, I have two questions. Someone has blogged below that there were three Paypal prepaid mastercards to choose from, and that you had to be careful to get the correct one–a temporary one that could be used as gift card vs. a temporary card that could not be used as a gift card and had a permanent card attached. Question 1: Is that true? Because our CVS kept the cards behind the counter and we had to ask for them. They never said there were several to choose from. We were given ones that had no option other than to receive a permanent card in the mail. PayPal Prepaid Customer service told me that I didn’t have the option of getting just a temporary card (without a permanent card following after) when I called about my card. But others have blogged they received cards that were easy to cancel and that did not have a required permanent card attached to the deal.

Question 2: Now it seems like some people in this blog are having trouble canceling their permanent cards that have come in the mail. Do you have any knowledge or experience with this?

      • Gina

Toni, I bought a PayPal prepaid debit mastercard 11/27. I immediately called PayPal and asked how I could get around the charges. After going through all the possible scenarios with customer service, they finally suggested changing it to a gift card with limited use. Which made me very happy. I did not give any other personal information other than my name and mailing address, and no charges for the use of the card. I must use the card within 120 days of activation and use as credit when purchasing. For those who have not activated your card, request to use the PayPal prepaid debit mastercard as a gift card when calling to activate. Save time, frustration, and money. I hope this helps. Its possible they may change the remaining balance on the card to a gift card after activation.

Thank you for this good info. This may be useful in the future! It appears that customer service at PayPal deliberately sets things up to deceive callers, as they did me, by setting up their customer service agents to tell customers that this option is not available when customers ask. I guess you have to persist with them.

That is, unless the card you purchased is a different kind of card than the one I purchased. If that is the case, I am just being too suspicious.

I did not realize or remember that it was one deal per person, but one deal was all that I wanted. I went to the store prepared to buy just one card. After I had purchased it, however, the CVS cashier asked me if I would like to buy another one. She said the limit was 2 per person, not 1. I was surprised–getting two had not crossed my mind, but I thought about it for a minute then, and decided to get two. Later on I heard that it was a limit of 1. I had already spent my ECBs. This is not good.
