Learn How to Shop at CVS: This weeks trip

Have you grabbed the awesome paper towel deal at CVS this week?  I love the chance to stock up on paper goods at a price that seems amazing to others.    It’s so easy to grab these deals and you really shouldn’t let yourself be so scared of doing drugstore deals that you never try it.

Here’s what I did today:

Bought:
(3) Sparkle Paper Towels, 8 rolls, $5 ea.
(1) Crest Pro Health Toothpaste, 4 oz, $2.99
Used:
-$1 off Sparkle paper towels, July All You magazine
(2) -$1 off Sparkle 6 roll+, RP 9/29
-.50/1 Crest ProHealth toothpaste, excl trial size printable
-$10 ECB
-$4 ECB
Total Due: 52¢ (after tax)

Got Back: $7 ExtraCare Bucks ($5, $2)

I had a number of ECB’s that I know anyone starting out won’t have.  That’s okay.  When you first start “CVSing” you will have to pay with real money for the first few transactions.  After that though, you will have ECB’s from a past transaction to pay for your current one.

If you are new try this:

Buy:
(1) Crest Pro Health Toothpaste, $2.99
Use:
-.50/1 Crest ProHealth toothpaste, excl trial size printable
Total Due: $2.49
Get Back: $2 ECB

Buy:
(3) Sparkle Paper Towels, $5 ea.
Use:
-$1 off Sparkle paper towels, July All You magazine
(2) -$1 off Sparkle 6 roll+, RP 9/29
-$2 ECB (you just got)
Total Due: $10
Get Back: $5 ECB

You spent $12.49 on your first trip to the store, but you now have $5 in store money to buy things next week. That basically means you got 4 items and only spent $7.49 for them, or $1.87 each.  When was the last time you got a pack of paper towels for $1.87??

Guess what?  Next weeks deals are already up, so start planning now what you will spend that $5 on.

    • Doug

Sorry, but you “spend” the same amount either way. Your out of pocket might have only been $0.52, but you lost $7 in ECBs therefore you still paid $7.52.

      • Yep. But spending pretend money is better than real money any day :) The main purpose of the second scenario is to help folks see past the ECB’s I used and that it’s still a doable deal for them.

ugh that’s annoying when people jump on a post and be negative. smh. thank you for all you do!

I agree! I got my CVS YTD savings today- 868!!! On things we use everyday! We make far fewer trips to the dreaded walmart, and any time I don’t go to walmart, I consider that as money in the bank! LOL. Jenny has saved my small family of three 868 since her tutorials showed me how to CVS early this summer! I haven’t paid for many household consumables in MONTHS and I love free soup/cereal/snacks! WHO could complain about that?!?

            • Mommaof3+1

I agree. No Walmart makes this gal very happy. Three kids and 1 more on the way. We live in a rural area. Without CVS we would spend a fortune in gas. I got my year to date savings and it was over $1000. Easy to spend with all the kids. Thanks so much, Jenny. You have saved this homeschool homemaker a TON of $.

Since I discovered southernsavers, I have saved so much money. Plus, we have more food, personal care items and medicine in the house then ever before. I definitely agree anytime you can avoid Walmart, it’s a good day. I think I’ve only been in Walmart about a dozen times this year and that’s a few too many but I use to go at least once a week. We have been saving so much money that we were just able to save enough extra money to purchase a brand new oak bedroom set including 2 nightstands, 2 chest of drawers (one for each of us) and a beautiful dresser with mirror from Largo Furniture Makers. Next, we’ll be saving for new Dinning Room Furniture.

You are right, i was thinking the same….. i got these towels as well but it cost me only $4 for real, because i had 3 off $15 coupon from the red machine, so 15 minus $3off $ 15 = 12 minus (3) MANUF.coupons=$9. so i gave them 9 ECBs and got 5 ECBs back, at the end cost me only $4. i understand her when she says that only pay 0.52 right now but that was money that one day in the past came out of her pocket. i always remember to count that as money even if is PRETEND money… I guess is just a different way so see savings. still a great price 7.52 for 3 big packs of paper towels, even when she think that she only paid 0.52 LOL. and be prepare because they going to EAT YOU ALIVE” is like nobody has the right to say what they think, if you post something in here and dont agree with Jenny they attack you! God help you!….

Gosh have you guys ever heard the term, “don’t look a gift horse in the mouth??” Don’t be so negative! Smile and enjoy getting a good deal on something you need!

I certainly agree. I used the MM on the Swiss Liver products to help pay for my paper towels. I love almost free paper towels. I also got the bonus packs so I got 30 rolls of paper towels for almost nothing. You just got to love CVS.

Whatever my purchase is going to give me back in Extra Bucks, then that’s the same amount I use to help pay for it. Like the sparkle gives $5 EB so I used a $5 EB to pay with and plus my coupons. That way I am rolling my EB not actually using them. But If I have some that are going to expire, then I will use them also plus the $5 the product gives back.

My store had the bonus pack of paper towels with 10 rolls in them!! It made for an even better deal!!

    • Marcella

      LOVE CVS

    • Kimberley Sick

I had a 5 off 15 and the 2 bonus rolls also. I could only print two $1 off coupons so I paid $8 and got back $5. So $3 for all, woo hoo!

    • Stephanie Lauren Dyar

I got the pampers deal this week. Got two boxes of diapers for $38.00 with $15.00 back in ECB and went back to get 2 packs of toilet paper and 1 pack of paper towels, spent nothing and got another 5 ECB after that purchase and bought candy for the kids with the 5 ECB. Im still new to CVS so I think im doing great :)

    • hailey

So I didn’t need paper towels this week but we were in desperate need of Pull-ups, so I bought the 2 packs of pull ups and B1G1 1/2 off Johnson Baby Lotion totaled $43, used (2) $2 off pull ups and (2) $1 off baby lotion PLUS used $10 ECB I had from a previous week. So my total OOP was $30 but then I got the $15 ECB.
I’m going to use my $15 ECB for the Clorox deal to get 2 64 oz bleach, 2 cans of clorox wipes and 2 409 formulas and 4 cans of campells soups for about $16 so my total OOP will be around $1 and some change then I’ll still have $5 ECB for next week or another week on something great…
      what do yall think?

    • Sheena Nix

Whooo hoo what a deal!!! I got this deal for 0.52 OOP + tax! yay! They were out of the sparkle paper towels and I was bummed but asked the clerk if maybe they had some in the stockroom. She said they were sold out but they were offering a substitution deal with the store brand paper towels plus they’d still take my manufacturer’s q’s AND gave me the ECBS on top of it all! They are the nicest employees of any store, ever! My husband is still amazed by my thirftiness and my father tells me “he’s jealous that he doesn’t have the patience to score the CVS deals” lol! I can’t believe how much money my family saves thanks to Jenny and CVS! It was time for me to stock up on paper towels so thanks for the heads up, Jenny! So many of us appreciate everything you do here!
