I’m excited to bring you guys a big discount and an awesome giveaway.

Dave Ramsey has helped millions of people get out of debt and take control of their finances.  The biggest way to tackle your finances is with his Financial Peace University.  On average families that have gone through the program, paid off $5,300 in debt and saved $2,700 in the first 90 days!

We have been a Dave Ramsey family since day one of our marriage thanks to sweet friends that gave us a number of his books as wedding presents.  Now 9 years later I’m excited to say that hopefully this year we will make the last payment on our mortgage and then yell “I’m debt free” at the top of our lungs.

If you have been wanting to learn more about your finances, Dave Ramsey is offering Southern Savers readers a free book with orders of $20 or more.  Use the code freemorebook to receive Dave’s book, More Than Enough, free with any $20 purchase.  In this book, Dave Ramsey gives some of the essential steps to creating prosperity, and presents the 10 keys necessary to creating a financial plan that fits your income and creates wealth.   This offer ends February 15th.

The Giveaway:

Dave Ramsey is giving away a Financial Peace University Kit to 2 Southern Savers readers!  This means you could take a class in your local area for free!

Since we are now debt-free (as of December 2011) our goal is to build up wealth.  We have a specific goal to have a certain amount of money in savings by May 1st.  We set our goal and made a plan to achieve it.  One other goal is to help others to reach where we are (smarter and quicker).  We have a number of friends in the same plight we have spent most all of our married life—we are ready to “pay it forward”.

Thank you for posting information about financial goals.
Yes, our family has discussed several goals for this year, and we’ve tried to be realistic about each goal.  Instead of stating that we will pay off ALL of our debt, we’ve re-stated that goal to name a specific bill to be paid off.  We’ve talked to our children (4 teenagers) about helping with the monthly expenses by helping to plan our dinner menus, find the coupons, and stick to a certain $$$ amount for each grocery shopping trip.  One of my children was very proud during the first week back to school after the holidays when she told me that she and her sister helped to save almost $20 this week by packing their school lunch instead of buying lunch.
Ideally, I think the main goal this year for our family is to keep better track of every penny we spend while also setting aside a specific amount each month for saving and debt reduction.
So, to sum it up ($$$, that is) we are on a mission to be more disciplined in our spending/saving for 2012!!!

My husband and I were just married in October.  Our goal is to raise a family with his salary as a police officer, so I can be a full time, stay at home mom (which can be challenging on a salary such as that, but we are both determined).  Our immediate goals are to pay off the vehicle, save an emergency fund, and pay our house off in 10-15 years (instead of the 30 years most people take). Being in our 20’s, we want to have a fantastic financial beginning and avoid debt.

I am a big DR fan and started working on my financial goal in 2011 by taking on extra jobs for extra money. My goal is to get out of debt and begin to build the life I want for myself. Couponing and extra work is helping, but I would love to participate the program to help push me forward.

We had to repair our house a year and a half ago. It caused us to go into debt by 23,000. It feels like that loan is going nowhere due to my husband being out of a job. I’m only able to make the minimum payment each month. I know Dave could help us out and see where every dollar is going. I just need his guidance. Thanks for offering this giveaway. I don’t think it would be possible with our household income to pay off all our student loan and car debt in one year, but I would like to pay off a big chunk of it this year.  I have always wanted to take this class to get my husband & I on the same page, but have always felt it was stupid to have to pay so much for a class when you are obviously already having trouble with finances.

I’m a single mom (well, currently going through a divorce) and my hopes for this year are to finalize my ugly divorce and get the lawyer paid (No coupons for that! LOL!), get the one credit card that I have paid off, and to get a nice place for my kids and myself instead of living in a run down rental. Going from being a stay-at-home Army wife to a single working mom has really taken a toll on myself and my children. I just want to get out from under this umbrella of debt created by this divorce and be able to move on with my life.

were blessed to go through Larry Burkett’s How to Manage Your Money course as
newlyweds, so we paid off all debt and built our home debt-free before any of
our 4 kids were born. We made a commitment to the Lord early in our marriage
never to go into debt again, for anything. That was over 13 years ago, and He

My husband and I moved in together after two years of being apart. I was in a different state taking care of my mother who was diagnosed with cancer. This put a huge financial strain on us. We are slowly crawling out of the debt we created while living apart and trying to find time to see each other during our time apart. While it make our hearts grow fonder of each other, it put a huge financial strain on our family of 4. We can use any help available to us. We started out couponing but I believe Dave Ramsey could help us so much more then that. Please consider us in this giveaway. Thank you!

    • LouisvilleShopper

When I made my ‘New Year’s Resolution’ for 2012, I decided that this year I would do my absolute best to only purchase products for which I have a coupon. For the past 2 years I have been on again, off again with using them. BUT, I DO know, when I get serious about using coupons I save a TON of money, have plenty of items to donate to charity and still have plenty for my family of 5. I plan on figuring out what I WOULD have spent without coupons and try to put that much money away, into paying bills, etc. It would be great to be caught up on simple bills, like water, elec., etc. We always are one month behind. • Maycx08

2012 goal is to pay off as much debt and start building an emergency fund.

    • Acsc1621

I would love to be able to pay down our credit card debt by the end of 2012 and learn to manage our money in more useful ways instead of wasteful spending. I would love to be able to have the knowledge of better budgeting to help my family in the future & help my 4 year old son grow up knowing the value of budgeting. I don’t want him to fall into my footsteps and live a life pay check to paycheck. This will help my marriage be about love & devotion for my family again instead of wording about how we are going to pay daycare and the power bill. Southern savers has helped to learn how to coupon and save money, now I need the help to learn to budget better and pay off our debt and be debt free!!

    • Hammondclan

To eliminate as much of our debt as possible this year and not incur any further debt.

    • Raparicio2008

My husband I have been listening to Dave Ramsey since August. Our financial goal for 2012 is to change our family tree by eliminating ALL of our debt (which includes selling our house and renting for cheaper while we pay our debt), and building wealth. We want our childrens children to be taken care of, and following this plan will help us get there!

    • Slwaldroup2001

This would be a blessing to us. We live in west Georgia and my husband recently took a job in upstate PA to try to keep us in our home and cars. He listens to Dave. We have both been wanting to take the FPU class. Getting our finances together would enable my husband and I the financial freedom we have desperately been seeking, and possibly get him home more often.

    • Birgit Gilbert

Our goal for this year is to pay down all our debt by at least 50 percent so we can purchase a home.

    • Cindyblye

    • Ashmash1224

My goal for 2012 is to move closer to paying off my student loans so that I will have more flexibility to stay at home with our current child and future children! • Stacielovescoupons

Set up a budget and fund an emergency savings acct.

    • Jessica McMasters

My husband and I have been following along with Dave Ramsey for two years now.  For the first time every we have a $1000 emergency fund and have paid off close to $30,000 in debt.  Living off of one income it makes it hard, but we are up for the challenge.  It may take us a little longer to accomplish all of our goals, but we will keep on.  Our goals this year are to continue to pay off our debt and save money by making wise choices.

    • Imaprincess09

Goal #1. Get our 6+ months of living expenses fully funded.
Goal #2. Get enough extra saved up so my husband can start flipping houses. (He usually gets laid off or else works extremely short weeks in the spring: his thinking is a house to fix up would be something to do, and extra income later on, as long as it does not dip into our 6 months of living expenses fund.)
Goal #3. Keep my grades high enough that between scholarships and one of the who knows how many jobs I’m trying to get, I’ll be able to pay for fashion school.. debt. free.
Goal #4. It would be great if we could end the year with enough in savings that when a foreclosure comes up in the area where we wanna move to.. we can grab it.

I created a budget to reduce our grocery, dining out, and random spending (going to get one thing coming away with 5 or 6) therefore blowing the budget.
We also would like to invest in a home since renting is crazy and wasteful. I could really use the help with something like this. I have no idea how you could be debt free after 9 years but I would love the ability to join in and be debt free too.

I would really like to be able to payoff our medical bills.  Last year was really tough on us, we had 3 surgeries and a bunch of medical tests done on our son.  We had a change of insurance half way through the year and it really did a whammy on our finances. We’ve listened to Dave Ramsey on the radio, but haven’t taken his class. Our medical bills are very high and taking the class would help us to get on track to paying this off or at least getting plan for paying it off.

    • Gracieb44

I have allergies, and there has been mold growing on our windows, so we got someone to come out and look. We have to get a french drain put in under our house, and it’s expensive, so our goal is to figure out how to pay for that without borrowing. Also, found out we are pregnant! Excited, but we have a high deductible. We need help!

    • Alison Gilmore

    • Nancy

My goal this year is to pay off all my credit card debt. My husband and I used his gi bill and credit to help fund our life while we were in college(we also had two kids to pay for). Now that we have both earned our degrees we really want to pay off that debt and have some financial freedom!

    • Tiffanyf56

Oh, where to start!  First, I plan to make a plan : ).  We are refinancing this month and will be saving $200 a month on our mortgage, and knocking off 6 years!  A portion of the extra money is going into savings to start an emergency fund, and a portion is is going to go straight to credit cards (that’s what Dave recommends, right?).  Our main goal is to be free of the revolving debt by the end of the year!

    • Kaemc5

My goal is to create and use a spending plan in order to become debt free ($20,000 credit card debt and mortgage) and strengthen my marriage by working together with my husband on this. Our debt is currently negatively impacting our marriage and keeping us from freely following where God might lead us.

    • Bentley

To be able to get out of debt.  My husbands company shut down which we were heavily invested in and we lost everything.  Had to file bankrupt and you know what goes along with that except we choose to reorganize and pay off our debtors which we think was the right thing to do so we do still have debt and have to learn how to pay everything off properly and learn how to live on a whole lot less.  Husband is also having a hard time finding a job.

    • Cid

My goal, and I have been successful for 18 days so far, is to live a cash only lifestyle so I can pay down my debt.  If I dont have it then I cant spend it.  Sounds easy? Not after 40 years of living so far beyond my means that the light from my means may not reach me for another 2,000 years.

    • AlexSherman

I have taken the course before and it is how my husband and I were able to save to get married at 20 with a full years worth of living expenses in our savings. I would like to win this kit so that my mom can take the course. She has been struggling financially for a few years now and within the last month her debit card has been locked and is unable to buy food for my brother and sister. We would like to help her get a fresh start by having her take this course and help her to figure out the best ways to manage her money like we were able to.

    • Tyanneh

We have not take a FPU class, but we have read Dave’s books and started our debt snowball seriously about 4 months ago.  In that time we have been able to pay off about $10,000 in student loans, our goal for this year is to pay off the other $20,000 in student loans and at least half of our second mortgage which will be another $10,000.  So far we are doing great and it’s amazing how quickly we have been able to pay things off by staying on a budget and finding extra work to help increase the money that goes into our debt snowball.

After always feeling behind financially, my husband and I figured out our annual income and I was shocked by what we discovered.  While it is a tight income, there was NO excuse for us to be in such debt.  For weeks that number haunted me and I was afraid that even after my husband graduates law school and we have a much higher income, we’d soon adjust our standard of living only to continue our legacy of debt.  After reading “Total Money Makeover” we are learning strategies to not only live within our means but MUCH less.  We’re working on our second week now and it’s hard but it will be so worth it once we meet our first goal of paying off our credit cards and car payment by this summer.  2012 is the start of us taking control of our money and health, and it feels good.

Hi Jenny!  We have been working on our obtaining financial peace since I started couponing this time last year.  I love to hear Dave Ramsey.  After my husband had back surgery in 2009, I have been trying to stick to budget to keep him from having to go back to work and yet both of us still be able to retire at a decent age!!

    • Bkittie

My goal is to keep track of exactly where I spend all of my money for the next 3 months, so I can look more closely at areas I can cut.

    • Barbara

    • FlusteredMama

I owned a Curves franchise until May, 2011.  It closed b/c of financial problems.  My personal finances are a mess.   My husband doesn’t make enough to pay for all of our bills, much less anything extra.  I’m trying to start a home daycare, but that’s going to cost quite a bit of money in order to meet the compliance regulations.  I’m a stay-at-home mother (I have 5 children), and even if I did get another job (which I’ve tried for 8 months to do), I would only make enough to pay for the gas to and from work & daycare.  I’m better off staying at home with my child (all the others are in school).  This daycare could bring in significant income for my family, all the while I would be able to stay home & not spend any “extra” money.  I’m tired of collection agencies calling every day, and me not being able to even scrounge up $5 to make at least a little payment.  I’m tired of being on government assistance.  Our TV service has been cut off a few times, my husband cancelled his cell phone, and I’m constantly borrowing money from family members to buy gas for my own vehicle.  We are blessed, however, to own our house & 2 vehicles debt-free.  But, there’s still the insurances that go with those.  My children deserve better, and I’m praying that one day we’ll be able to give them what they deserve.

To finally finish paying off the credit debt that we incurred when my husband was laid off for two years and my medical bills from two hospital stays due to severe illness.  I can finally see the light at the end of the tunnel!

    • MaryJ

Our goal this year is to use the money from my new job and my husband’s recent raise to pay down our small loan and student loans.  Just keep living like we didn’t even have any increase in pay!

    • We’re both out of work, so we’re looking for work or income streams of any sort right now. (goal 1).  Also trying to tighten up our belts – no eating out or buying new these days.  I hope to change over to paying off debt again as soon as we’re working again.

    • Amanda

I would really like to win so I can give it to my husband’s brother.  The have no idea how to save and are overdrawn in the checking buying things they don’t need and can’t afford.  I would love to share Dave’s knowledge with them.  They really need it.

    • Lstewart002

I plan to save more.  I need to tuck away more each month and try to spend less.  I’m retired and my husband will retire in 5 years.

    • Asorensen

I have a terminal illness and despite how expensive medical bills can be my husband and I decided that our goal this year is to research Dave Ramseys plan and work it.  I want to leave my husband and children debt free so that they will not have a financial burden when I am gone.  And although I may not be here to teach them everything they need to know hopefully this example will put them on the road to financial freedom when they are grown.

This is a life changing plan that really works!!  My husband and I read Total Money Makeover in late November.  We are applying what we have learned and we will be debt free (excluding mortgage . . . but including pay-off of two vehicles and more) in 16 more months!!!!  And thanks to Jenny, we are now saving an additional $500 / month!!!!  So grateful for sharing hearts.  Love Dave Ramsey’s motto:  “Live like no one else today (frugality), so you can live like no one else tomorrow.”  Being able to pass the blessings on to others in need.

    • Lmkoller1

I have started working Dave Ramsey’s plan after reading his books. My goal this year is to pay 1/3 of my largest debt that I have been chipping away at for nearly 10 years. I would love to take the Dave Ramsey class, and would love to win a free kit!

I plan on taking charge, though and need all the help to ensure financial freedom in our retirement. Hubby has not helped me but has been engrossed in his day to day workday activities. I have no one to blame but myself….will continue to look ahead and Dave Ramsey, I admire you for your persistence in helping families like us!

My financial goal for this year is to save money to be able to use cash for Christmas purchases next year.  I hate the stress Christmas time brings because of all the presents we need to buy and feeling like we don’t have enough money.  My plan is to set aside so much every month and dedicate it to Christmas.  I haven’t decided on the amount just yet, but whatever ends up being in the “Christmas Fund” that is all that we will spend for Christmas.  It sounds good to me now, I just hope I can accomplish this throughout the next year.

I’m a single woman, no kids, but am still drowning in debt. I do love Dave, have been reading his work for years and if not for the loss of salary I was on my way to being debt free. I’m selling off everything I can and have even sold my 17K Element in favor of a 3K Ford.  My goal for 2012 is to make it to 2013 and if nothing else, still have my house and a better paying job.

Wow! What an awesome opportunity!!! My husband is a contractor and we have had a rough couple of years! This year, I had my second child and decided it was in our best interest for me to quit my job and stay with my children! The best decision I have ever made! However, finances have become extremely tight … Extremely!!! We are having a hard time trying to figure out how to balance our finances and pay things off… I would give anything to be out of set! However, can’t afford Dave’s books… As much as we would love to have them! This would be a priceless gift for me and my family! In 2012, it’s our goal to pay off as much debt s we can while trying to put some aside for our future… No easy task! But I think we can pull it off!

Now that I have a job I want to pay off my car (I have 6 months on it), all my medicals bills, and at least one of my credit cards. I’d like to be debt free before 30.

My fiance and I have set financial goals to pay for our wedding and to pay our credit cards and his car off this year.  Since we are starting a new life together and do it with financial responsibility we could really benefit from doing Dave Ramsey’s course.  Thank you.

    • Carrie_penny

We have planned to pay off the last of our credit cards, reschedule our IRS payments to have the debt paid off by the end of 2013 and reduce our other spending by 25% this year.  We are also looking to finace out of pocket a vascetomy reversal for my husband this year.

My financial goals for this year is to pay off the all our credit card debt. We currently own our own home and have no car payments just a lot of Stupid Tax as Dave says on his show. I know we can do this. We did not use our Credit cards this Christmas so we are already ahead. We really need this. I have taken on house cleaning for my friends and neighbors trying to earn extra money. I listen to Dave every day at 1:00. I know his program could change our live.

    • Ellen

We would pay off my husband’s student loans and pay down our mortgage so we could finally move and not be an hour away from my husband’s job and the kids’ school!  Also we’d save money so we could maybe take a vacation.  Haven’t had one in about 3 years! :)

    • Wendy Moore

I actually have the Dave Ramsey Financial Peace kit. However, I would like to win this kit to give to a dear friend of mine, who I’ve known since I was 6 years old. She has 3 kids, a husband, and she works but they are in a great amount of debt. I’d like nothing more than to be able to give her the gift of Dave Ramsey’s FPU so that she can finally have that peace that I am in the midst of obtaining myself! Thanks to Dave Ramsey!

My financial goal for 2012 is to track more closely the money we spend to try and eliminate “unneccessary spending”.  I have already realized that by doing this, I tend to buy less (realizing that I don’t really need everything I may want) The only debt my husband and I currently have is a car payment and mortgage. Our goal is to save that extra spending money and put towards these two items to get them paid off sooner.

    • Lschraf

My boyfriend of 4 years and I are planning on getting married soon so I would like to be able to save for our future (house, kids, new car, the works) as well as being able to pay off the debt we have now so that we can have a good place to begin in our marriage.  We’re both public servants, I’m a Child Protective Services Investigator and he’s a police officer so we aren’t making a fortune here, but we do want the best lives we can have together and for when we start having kids.  Any help that we could get to achieve these goals would be amazing!

We’ve been following the Dave Ramsey advice since getting married 2.5 years ago.  We have successfully paid off most of our small debts and are now focusing on our mortgage.  This year, my financial goal is to figure out how to save more while paying down my mortgage faster than my the 28.5 years I have ahead of me!

    • Donna

I plan on paying off my credit cards and my student loans- finally!

    • jaqueen

I reviewed my credit report because my credit score is so low.  To my surprise, I found out that outside of my student loans & a mortgage I’m still trying to get my ex-husband to refinance, my remaining debt was a little more than $6k.  With my student loans and the mortgage being current, it’s these very old debts that are weighing down my score.  My goal for this year to eliminate those debts totally, improve my credit score & put myself in a better situation to do things like starting a small business. Looking forward to it!

    • Katrina

I would love to pay off all our credit cards and our two sons college loans so we and they can be debt free. Thanks! Katrina

    • Sarah C.

My husband and I have been married for a year and half and we are determined to be good stewards of our money. We are both young teachers trying to do what is right with our money. We save, I coupon, and we try to make daily smart decisions but still have $70,000 in student loan debt. We pay over $1000 a month toward the loans to pay them off quick so we can feel comfortable to buy a house. We have no credit card debt and no car payments but we need Dave’s encouragement and strategies to begin our live together and have financial peace. Thank you for considering us for this…what a great giveaway!

    • Arcumbaa

This past year we have gotten a lot of medical bills that for whatever reason our insurance decided not to pay.  We are really trying to get those bills paid off and pay off our car as well..  We would love to learn how to better manage our money and get these bills paid off fast!  Dave is an awesome teacher and we can’t wait to begin learning how to achieve the financial peace that he can teach us about.  Thanks for a chance at this great giveaway!!

Jenny – I have had my eye on Dave’s material for a couple of years – just never have the extra $ to put towards it. I’m 27 and my student loan payments of $350 a month are about to start on top of needing a new car in the near future and trying to help my mom pay off my grandad’s funeral. I want so bad to get my credit cards paid off, put a little away for a car, and pay off this funeral so I can get financially prepared for my student loans to kick in. Thanks for your giveaways and taking time to read this :) – A

I would LOVE to be able to win this kit so that we could learn to do this from the best name in the financial budgeting world!

    • MomOf2!

My husband’s small business fell apart with the downturn of the economy last year, and we are now living paycheck to paycheck along with everyone else.  We currently coupon and save money wherever we can, but we would be greatful for the opportunity to take a free class!  We desperately want to get out from under the business debt along with credit card debt, but our biggest goal for 2012 is to finally start a college fund for both of our small children.

I want to begin getting out of debt.  I am 56 with $30,000 of credit card debt, $30,000 in student loans, $80,000 mortgage and very little in retirement. Future “looks” bleak!

Our financial goal for 2012 is to pay off our two year old twins NICU bill!  We only have about $ 7000 more to go from $127,000.  My husband and I have read the Total Money Makeover and have done the envelope system (using cheap white envelopes) but we would love to know how to continue our financial peace after we have accomplished this goal.  We want to be good financial stewards and hopefully pass on the ability to live debt free to our children.

Just read the Dave Ramsey’s book and am starting our Total Money makeover in February, hence just began couponing this month and must say that your site has been the most helpful in tackling the couponing mysteries.  Who knew it could be so complex.  So my goals begin in 2012 but go through 2014 and I will be debt free with 6 month income in the bank.  And truly on my way to financial peace.

My plan as a disabled person with a low income is to stop all catalogues coming into my home tempting me. I have bare boned down to the extended basic cable, cheapest package basic internet, no frills cell phone plan and I am still struggling. I HAVE started bank drafts for my utilities and credit cards to avoid late fees I can’t afford.I have budget billing on my enery billing and very energy wise. I have no home phone, As you know Social Security Disability is very low income, yet not low enough to qualify for help with food because I am by myself. My fico score is bad due to medical bankrupcy in 2006. I have my bank automatically put $10 per month into a savings account, As each credit card is paid off I plan to increase this. I have 7 cards with $20 – $35 per month with a total of $1900 credit card debt. I’m trying to pay off the highest interest card off first by paying a little extra than the minimun on those cards. I plan to compare my auto insurance and raise my deductible to $1000 to see if I can get a better rate. I try to be as frugal as possible and I still fear at 53, due to my health, I’ll never have that half year stash of emergency fund stashed away. My granddaughter told me the other day, “Granny, you never take us to the movies anymore.” I spoiled them for so long, Now we have plenty of arts & crafts, board games, and yard games.

Any suggestions for streching money under the poverty line?

    • Teri

      Lower our student loan debt.

    • I got married in September so 2012 is our first full year of money management as a married couple.  Our goals for this year include paying down our home loan for the remodel we did in 2011, tithing more to our church, and totally eliminating ALL credit card debt and maintaining $0 balances. We are so close to the last goal we can taste it.  But it’s like the last 5 pounds of a diet…the last $400 seems to be the hardest!

    • Trish

My goal for 2012 is to maintain $0 in CC debt (recently achieved this!) and to avoid entering into new credit relationships as much as feasibly possible. This means getting a part-time job and using that $ to save towards a replacement car and save $ to send my daughter off to college.

    • T.V.

I have returned back to school only taking one here & there.  I’m  changing careers and hope to go to school full time by the summer. This will mean I will have to quit full time job.  My financial goal is to save as much money as possible and to pay off as much debt at the same time.

    • Omoneal

My goal for 2012 will be for my husband and I will continue to pay down our debt without adding any new debt. Which means that we should be debt free by the end of the year!

Start working to pay off student loan debt, working towards a new home, and providing for our first baby due in June!! I am recently graduated from college, and I really feel that I could benefit from the lessons Dave Ramsey teaches on how to better manager money, to get out of debt, and eventually how to even save money and be prosperous instead of scraping by. I know I am not the only American facing financial difficulties, but I would love the opportunity to be able to start young so that by the time our new son is an adult, mom and dad can give him the same sound advice and sense of financial peace that will hopefully change our lives now.

Since purchasing our first home at the end of 2010, it seems like everything that could go wrong did – my husband lost his job, I was 7 months pregnant so we racked up a lot of medical debt and then my husband had not one, but TWO kidney stone procedures done. We did what we could – I launched my own business working from home so I could be with the kids and not pay childcare costs, my husband found a great job (after 9 months of searching) and we learned the value of couponing. Our goal this year is to not go any deeper into debt and to pay off our 20 different medical bills!

I graduated college January 2010 and have plenty of student loans I am trying to take care of along with many other typical adult payments/loans I have. I am getting married in May and we would like to start a family sooner then later so a goal we arer working on is trying to pay as much as we can on everything and go without eating out so much and buying things that are not necessary. It has been a hard change and we both wish we had some kind of guidance to see the bigger picture.

After almost 25 yrs of marriage and several attempts to set up a budget, we are now at the point of no return.  A couple of yrs ago we consolidated our debt into line of credit and kept one card for overdraft protection.  Big mistake!!  Just like Dave talks about, our relationship with money hasn’t changed so we find ourselves actually DEEPER in debt and no lifelines left.  I am finally serious and have been laboring over our current budget (on a very irregular income) for the last 3 weeks, adjusting it and really coming to understand what it means to label every $ BEFORE it leaves my hands.  Wow!  What an eye-opener!!  Our goal is to make a serious dent in our line of credit and pay off our one credit card.  And our ultimate goal is change our family tree, so my children can learn how to handle money and so we can also really, truly bless them before they leave the nest.  :)

    • Susie

My financial goal is to take the lowest credit card balance and pay it off then take the payment for that card that I would be making and put towards the next one to get that paid off and do the same for the rest of my cards so by the end of 2012 I should have them all paid off. Wish me luck…

Our goal for this year is to learn how to keep away from those financial pitfalls, stay out of debt, and to manage our money betterWe have been on a debt management program for the past couple of years.  It has been great to be free of all of the credit cards, but we are still struggling.  Our biggest fear is once we are through with our debt management program we will return to our old ways.  We have heard about Dave Ramsey and his financial advice.  We have been wanting to take the course but can’t afford it.  This opportunity you are providing would be a huge blessing to anyone of us who are hoping to win.  Thank you so much for this chance!
