DIY Gifts: Personalized Doormat

There are so many ways to give thoughtful gifts on a budget.  Today’s DIY Gifts Idea is a super easy Personalized Doormat.  If you can handle a pair of scissors and a sponge you are set!  This is a gift that everyone will love and only took you maybe 10 minutes to make!

The total cost is less than $20, and would be even cheaper if you make more than one and reused your supplies.

Materials:

Plain Doormat from Ikea or Target
Outdoor Craft Paint
Sponge Applicator
Stencil Letters

I picked up my mat from Ikea, but then I saw a similar one at Target for a couple of dollars cheaper.  I think the Ikea doormat is a little bigger, but the Target one wasn’t small!  I picked up all of my other materials from Hobby Lobby.

The stencil letters I bought came in sheets, but I ended up cutting out the individual letters.  Cutting the letters gave me better control over the letter spacing and I ran a smaller risk of getting paint on the back of the letters and transferring it all over the mask when I move the sheet around.

I liberally applied the black outdoor craft paint to the mat.  Make sure you get in all of the corners of the letters.

The finished product is a sturdy mat to brush your shoes off with and it’s a fun way to welcome guests to your home.  Stencil the mat with anything:  A last name, a funny saying, an image or a Bible verse.  I love the idea of giving this as a wedding, Christmas or housewarming gift.
