DIY Lip Balm Recipe - great for a girl's party!

A simple gift that is fun to make and fun to use is DIY Lip Balm.  You can get as fancy as you want with this, or go simple.  Either way, you have an organic gift that actually makes a number of gifts in a short time.  Once you grab the ingredients you are set to make a ton, so lets give everyone lipgloss this year!

Before you get started think about special flavors, scents and colors.  It’s very easy to make each one a little different.  My husband loves a clear peppermint chapstick (aka lip balm) while my girls like pink grapefruit!

DIY Lip Balm Recipe

DIY Lip Balm

What You Need:

Coconut Oil
Candelilla Wax (Or Beeswax)
Small Crockpot
Glass Pipettes
Lip Balm Containers
Coffee Stirrers
Vitatmin E Oil (Optional)
Essential Oils (Optional)
Lipstick Colors (Optional)

The Recipe:

2 Parts Coconut Oil
1 Part Candelilla or Beeswax
A Few Vitamin E Drops (Optional)
2 Drops Essential Oil Per Lip Balm Container (Optional)
Shaving of Lipstick (Optional)

Go ahead and heat your crockpot while you’re getting the ingredients together.  Dump in the coconut oil, beeswax or candelilla and the optional vitamin E.  Let all of those completely melt (the photo below shows the beeswax recipe being used).  If you use a tables spoon to measure, it should yield about 3 containers that measure 1.25 in. diameter.

While your ingredients are melting, add 2 drops of essential oils and shave off some lipstick with your stirrer to put into your lip balm container.  Personally, I highly recommend the peppermint!  You can include as little or as much color as you want – depending on how bold you want the color to look.  The color shouldn’t show up on your lips, but it will look good in the container.

Use your pipette to fill the lip balm container with the melted ingredients.  Fill it all the way to the brim as the lip balm will compact as it hardens.  While the ingredients are still in liquid form, stir them in the container with your stirrer until the lipstick color is completely melted.

The lip balm will harden in a few seconds.  Put the lid on it, and you’re good to go!

This is a great activity for a girl’s night or a birthday party!  The cost obviously varies for how big of a batch you’re planning to make.  At Becoming, we had 2 batches of balm.  One was made with Candelilla Wax, and the other with Beeswax.  Candelilla has a higher melting point, so it’s more practical if you keep your lip balm in your pocket.  This is a super easy activity and I highly recommend it!
