        I’ve read the last two coupons I’ve printed and it said AFTER other coupons. The instructions on the printable actually instructs the cashier to deduct BEFORE manufacturer coupons. You can still score some really GREAT deals though. There was a Pledge printable for $1 off.. it’s priced at $4 and is something like $3.84 at Walmart. After the coupon it was $3. I think Wisk was also marked down to $4 and would be $3 after the $1 printable on DG’s website. Just be sure to go ABOVE $25 with COUPONS so that they’ll take your $5 off $25.  :)

        I went there yesterday and the register wouldn’t accept it and they had to enter them manually. They questioned me using multiple coupons for the same items but eventually did accept them.

          The managers and cashiers need some training in how coupons work. ALL OF THE MANAGERS AND ALL OF THE CASHIERS plus their registers need upgrading/ reprogramming.

      I don’t think I will ever go back to the Dollar General near my house on Hartley Bridge Road in Macon, GA.  The cashier was soooo rude to me!  The ONLY person that has ever been rude to me anywhere about using coupons.  I did use the last $5 off coupon, but it’s not worth it to get the harassment from her.  I only used 9 coupons but there were 4 people in line behind me and she started getting stressed out.  I offered to step back and she could try ringing me up again after those people.  But she said, “Oh no, I’m not about to start this all over again.”  She looked at everybody else and said real loud, “People, you are just going to have to wait, I’m sorry.”  I only had 9 coupons and it wasn’t that complicated.  It’s not like I was an extreme couponer, because I am not.  After I put my purchases in the car, I had a question about the receipt so I went back in to ask VERY NICELY about one product.  As I came in the door, she saw me and said very loudly, “Oh Lord, here she is again!”  I even told her I was sorry that people were waiting behind me.  However, I will NEVER go back to that store again!!!

        I would contact the corporate office because there is no excuse for ANYONE,  much less a cashier to act that way!

        I understand and no exactly how frustrating that can be.  I’ve had the same thing happen at my local CVS and it was about 9:00 p.m. – they weren’t even busy!!!!  It is our only CVS and I will not shop there!  There is nothing that calls for rude behavior from the cashier!

        I had some trouble at DG yesterday too. They weren’t rude, just got frustrated because the register wouldn’t scan the coupons and they had to put them in manually. The cashier tried to tell me that if the register wouldn’t accept them there was nothing she could do. When I told her if that was the case she could just void the whole transaction the manager got involved. He showed her how to put them in manually, but he was even questioning me for using multiple coupons for the same items. When I explained that they were SQ and MQ he reluctantly entered them, I think just to get rid of me. Oh well in the end I got what I wanted and the store will get paid for the coupons. :)

          I have had issues with their registers too. If I buy multiple items and use multiple coupons the register does not recognize the coupons after the 2nd one. I read somewhere online that the best way to check out is to have the cashier scan one item then one coupon then another item and another coupon. The cashiers also give me that bs that they cannot enter a coupon so I always have to bother the manager to get him to enter the coupons.UGH

             Same problem yesterday using the $5 off $25 coupons with MQ’s. It was taking off the MQ’s but not the $5 and the cashier tried telling me it took small amount off each item, and even the manager tried telling me it wouldn’t show on the receipt. Well if it doesn’t show anywhere on the receipt and the total is $5 more than I had calculated then it didn’t take it off. They had to void the transaction and start over. The manager figured out that they have to hit a key after scanning the $5 before the MQ for it to take it. Same problem at 2 different stores. Beware and know what you should owe before you get to the register.

        I have had many troubles with checking out….most of my newspaper coupons do not print (and forget a printable one)…the last time I had trouble I pointed to the HUGE poster on the front door (which was just about 3 feet from me) advertising the fact they take coupons…..I just stressed every time I go to check out

      This coupons says it is not valid with other DG coupon offers. Has anybody had problem with this? I was planning on getting some items that have SQ and MQ but I’m worried they won’t take this one too.

        the closest DG to me will not allow you to use any coupons with the $5 off coupon

          on our coupon it stated scan first before man. coupons. I love these super saturday sales. did 2 transaction had 54.00 value pd 24.00 OOP. Our DG is very friendly and helpful

      Make sure and check the clearance area….I just got back from the store and I found CoverGirl Lashblast mascara on sale for just 2.00…then I had a 1.00 off of one (from the latest P&G insert)….so I got two at that price (was still many left on the shelf)….1.00 for that mascara was a steal I thought!

      I am getting very discouraged with DG shopping.  Although the deals should be good and the people are very nice, the registers don’t follow their coupon policy and scan correctly.  Today’s visit was particularly discouraging because I had to re-plan my purchase twice in the store because items were either not available or not unboxed/on the shelf yet.  Although the cashier was very, very nice and tried very hard to input my coupons ,the register wouldn’t allow both a DG and manufacturer coupon on the same item which should have been perfectly acceptable given their policy.  In the end, my total was $5 more than it should have been as a result.  I am getting very close to throwing up my hands with DG and shopping elsewhere where I don’t have to waste my time planning my shopping trip only to be disappointed when their register won’t scan accurately.  This all makes me appreciate Publix even more.  I never have issues there!

         I know that dollar general updated there coupon acceptance policy to that you can only scan 2 coupons per product that you have the coupons for. if you have more than the 2 coupons you have to break the order up to get the full savings. meaning if you have 3 detergents where you have 3 manufacturers coupons and 3 dollar general coupons, you may have to split it up. have 2 products on one order and the 1 product on another transaction. that is what I was told. hope this helps!!

      BEWARE! The $5 off $25 states “Not valid with any other DG discounts.” My DG in Cullman, AL didn’t even give me the advertised B2G1 discount when I used the $5 coupon.

    • Today I found a cardboard display for CFL Lightbulbs. They were $4 each according to the display. Attached to the display, next to the $4 price were mail in rebates. For every 2 bulbs you purchase, you get a $5 rebate, making each lighbulb cost only $1.50 each! 

      Paired with the $5 coupon, I paid roughly 88 cent per lightbulb! 

      The lighbulbs on the shelves are not marked with the $4 price. The manager had to key in a price over ride for each bulb. I ended up coming back to get more at this price and she did the same for me then. 

      The manager did tell the cashier that she must scan the $5 off $25 coupon BEFORE hitting “total” on the register. 

      I have never had a problem with my local DG. I match coupons to sales, then use the $5 off $25 coupon on top of that. I have, on several occasions, had to get the manager to key in the coupons manually due to register not accepting them. I try to go when they are not very busy, as I know this is going to happen.

      Someone said that they would not accept a $1 coupon on an item that cost $1. The cashiers may be confusing this with the part of the policy that states, “Coupons for free items are only accepted if a purchase is required to get one free”. This of course means they will accept B1G1 or a Buy this and get that free. It excludes those coupons that are just for a certain free item. To clarify, you can show the very bottom of the coupon policy that states, “In addition: ‘cash back’ will not be issued if the value of the coupon is greater then the purchase price of the item’. This shows that you CAN use a coupon that is for more then the purchase price, you just won’t get cash back! So, $1 off a $1 product is usable! 

      Print the coupon policy and take it with you. Cashiers are often not trained. Most cashiers are not managers, so they don’t have the ability to override or enter coupons manually. If a cashier has a mean manager (and it happens), the cashier may be hesitant to call the manager up front. A good way to deal with this, is when the problem presents itself, and the cashier refuses to accept your coupon, calmly state, “I have a few questions about the coupon policy myself. Would you please call the manager up so I can ask them my questions?”

      When the manager arrives, tell the manager that you had some questions about the coupon policy and asked to speak to them. At this point, you’ve placed the cashier in a position where she is off the hook and won’t get chewed by her manager when you leave. This cashier will remember you and do all he/she can after that to assist you. The manager will, hopefully, abide by the store’s coupon policy and then do whatever overrides you need. 

      Sure, it takes a bit more time to handle it this way….but I’ve found once you find a good cashier, even when the manager is negative, it makes all the difference in couponing.

      for those of you check out the clearance section at all stores, check out dollar general’s clearance. I found that they had loreal true match foundation and covergirl cosmetics on clearance. I had coupons for the any loreal face product for $2 off and any covergirl eye product $1 off. I got the last 3 true match and 2 covergirl mascaras for $5.

         btw, the true match price at walgreens is $10.99 per bottle and I bought 3 of them for $1 each!!
