I bought 12 bottles last night and the cashier was absolutely floored!!! She had to enter in the $3/2 manually but did it no problem. There were probably 25 more bottles on the shelf. That’s in portland tn

      • Lisa Cochran

Couldn’t you save even more by doing this on Saturday when you could use the $5 off 25 purchase?

        • Melinda J Putman

i was thinking the same thing

          • Jennifer

Most DG promotions won’t overlap. Since one is DG coupon and other DG promotion, it won’t likely work.

    • Newbie

Does your total have to be at least $20 after the manufacturer coupons for the $5 to come off?

    • Regina

I tried this deal today. Cashier didn’t want to enter in the coupon manually. She said it will only take $2.62 off per q. I told her I didn’t want it. I will try another DG later. Seems like I ALWAYS have trouble with coupons there!

      • Jen Beaver

Happens to me too :( Now I avoid the store altogether!

    • Ellen

the $5 off of $20 will only do one time so better to separate your transactions. I bought 6 bottles and it was $7 before taxes.

    • Pauline

I tried the deal at two different Dollar General stores in Aiken, SC and the cashier did not enter the coupons at both locations. I have always experienced problems getting the Dollar General stores to accept coupons. I have decided to stop shopping at Dollar General.

      • Debbie

I have a lot of trouble couponing at Dollar General also. They don’t seem to be trained in understanding the terms on coupons. This is not just cashier’s but managers and whoever it is the manager calls concerning a coupon. I live in a small town and don’t have the option of shopping elsewhere.

      • Joannar

Same here. Our Dollar General won’t accept any printable coupons even printed straight from the DG web site, and they are very inflexible about coupons in general. I don’t even try anymore.

    • Rachel

Make sure they hit total before they scan your coupons!!

    • Rachel

Make sure they hit total before they scan your coupons, they will have to manually type them in.

    • reynoldsja

The $5 off $20 coupon says it has to be $20 AFTER all discounts and coupons…

      • barb

It’s not the normal 5 dollar off of 20 coupon. This is just an automatic discount because you bought 20 dollars worth of their product ( no coupon) however, three $3/2 will not work because the coupons state one per transaction.

      • Shelley

I wish Jennie would update the original post to include this fine print. I just went into my DG in Chattanooga and the sign on the shelf states in fine print “Net $20 is calculated after coupons” therefore it will not work with this deal.

    • Stephanie Wallace

How would it work with the 2.00 off coupon?

    • Jen

I work at dg and a lot off the bottles have peelies on them. 2.00 off Wyb 2

    • barb

This is not working at any of the three stores I visited. They all said its because the coupon states one coupon per purchase.

    • barb

    • Beaushay

Coupon states one per transaction which loses the $5 discount. DG would not do the deal as written above.

      • Regina

Our store in cville wv wouldn’t let us…

    • Beaushay

    • Lynn

I did this deal this afternoon and the cashier didn’t want to take the coupons. She said it was a limit of one coupon per purchase. I tried to tell her only one coupon per 2 items, it doesn’t state a limit on the amount of coupons u can use. She said she would let it go “this time”. She didn’t even try to scan the coupons, she did them manually. This was my first and last time couponing at DG. I follow the rules n she made me feel like I was wrong.

    • wendy

I tried it this afternoon at DG in Chattanooga. They had ring it up 2 transactions at a time. She said it was Proctor and Gamble not letting you combine because they are already on sale then $5 off the 20 on top of that. I ended up getting 6 and used my $3 off purchase of 2 and it ended up being $2 each which was still a good deal. I didn’t feel like arguing and I was in a hurry. I did see airwick and glade christmas candles and refills that were ringing up half off

    • scubatown

Worked for me and my son tonight. Cashier didn’t want to take the coupon because she didn’t see it was $3 off 2. She didn’t think it would work because the coupon was more than 1 bottle so she took $1.50 off twice for each two detergent we bought. We also got the $5 off so after tax we got 6 bottle for a little under $8. Pretty good deal!!

    • barb

i would like to hear from Jenny on this. The coupons say one per transaction. As I stated before it did not work at any of the three i went to. If it is a mistake then maybe it should be taken down. i personally like to be a good couponer which is why i use southern savers.

    • Brandi

There is also a savingstar deal for $1 off 1 All

      • jill

I don’t think savingstar works at dollar general because they don’t have a card to link.

    • tracy

It worked at my dg in Hubert NC, the manager came over and put the coupons in himself and he was more than happy to help me save money. I think that it has to do with the people working at the DG, some places treat you like you are stealing the products that you save money on.

    • Shelley

Jennie could you update the original post to include this fine print. I just went into my DG in Chattanooga and the sign on the shelf states in fine print “Net $20 is calculated after coupons” therefore it will not work with this deal.

    • Carolyn

I was able to get 4 of the larger bottles for $9. The deal worked great for me.

      • barb

The deal was 1.21 each. You paid 2.25 each

        • barb

          Sorry it was for 1.17

    • barb

It’s not a matter of “working” it’s a matter of proper couponing so that we can all continue to do it. There are some employees and managers that just override the system. The above scenario is not a “legal” one.

      • jacksonat25

        How is it not “legal”?

        • barb

Because the coupons say you can only use 1 per transaction and the fine print on the 5 dollar off says it must total 20 dollars after coupon.

    • barb

I was able to get them for $2.00 per bottle in Eufaula, AL The cashier had to ring up two bottles then scan the coupon. The bottles rang for $3.50 each (reg price $5 each) with tax I paid $2.31 per bottle. I was missing the $5 off special by ringing it up this way.

    • yesenia t

I tried buying 6 ALL detergents the cashier would scan 2 bottles then scan the coupon at the end it didn’t give the $5 off $20. I didn’t like cashiers attitude when I inquired about the $5 discount so I just asked for my coupons and left the store

      • CC

Had the same problem today , but even though the cashier was upset she still gave me the deal , so I got 6 for 7 dollars.

    • mrscarter2u

Might b less hassle if u buy them at Food Lion… They are on sale buy one get one free…my store (ga) has them for $5.49..use $3/2 would b $2.49 for two hth

    • Corey Terry

Next time don’t give coupons until the end of the transaction had the cashier the store coupon first, then the manufacturers coupon. The cashiers are supposed to know that they need to ring the store coupon first.

    • Chris B

Mistakes are expensive. I tried the above deal this morning. I was completely excited since I’m new to this couponing thing. At the register the lady was only able to use the store coupon and one $3 off coupon and a $2.00 off coupon. A little embarrassed I just paid for it which really didn’t save me much only $10 ouch!. I’m taking it as a lesson learn what ill do next time is not use the 5 off 20 store coupon and do separate transactions for each one which will save me more.

    • kim

So I went into DG yesterday to get this deal …only to be told ,,,the only ALL on sale was the free and clear…..so I switched to free and clear,,then got to register to check out a 2nd time …only to get told I cant use coupons on SALE items….so guess what??I didnt get any ALL at all……I have emailed corp about this ,,because no where in the coupon policy do I see where you cant use a coupon on “sale items”,,,anyone else having this problem with DG???
