Gainesville, FL store knows nothing about change in policy and will not accept competitor coupons – FYI.

    • angeliaa

Spoke with store manager in Wilmington NC today. He said the managers were told the double coupon promotion would be centered around the Atlanta Georgia expansion. He said there was alot of excitement that this is a GOOD thing. He expects that if all goes well this will be widespread corporate in 2 to 3 months.

      • RobinB78

I was told something similar by a FL manager in Jacksonville, NC.

        • Demaris

Good to know, I'm in Jacksonville, NC and was going to ask tomorrow when I went in the store.

        • melirish

that awesome to know! i live in j-ville, NC. And I do like fl but I think that the commisary is cheaper.

          • RobinB78

Yes! The commissary is definitely cheaper! But if FL starts the double coupons, then it'll make me shop there a little more than just for the certain sale items each week! :-)

            • nancy

I am knew to going on the Camp Lej. I only go to the Hospital two time a week. But was told i could use the commissary. How much cheeper is it? anything special i have to do since i am not a marine or Navy.
              thank you of info.

            • nancy

opps new is what i meant lol

            • RobinB78

Do you have a military dependent's ID card? If not then you are not eligible to shop at the commissary. You must be an active duty or retired member of the military or a dependent of one to shop the commisssary. Civilians, even if they work on base, are not allowed to shop there.

IF you are indeed eligible to shop there, then here's the scoop. The prices you pay are the price that the store pays plus 10%. It's usually around a 30% savings based on typical grocery store prices. Plus it's all tax free. The only additional charge you'll notice is a “commissary surcharge” which is 5% of your total bill before coupons. This 5% is the ONLY profit the commissary gets, and 100% of the surcharge fees are used for things such as refurbishment/ repair etc of the commissary.

I find that I can fill an entire grocery basket for just over $100. Before coupons. The commissary does accept many forms of coupons. Including printable ones. The ONLY ones I've been told they do not accept are internet printed ones for free items. However they do honor internet printed BOGO coupons. They do NOT double coupons, and probably never will. But, the prices are rock bottom anyways!

Don't really know what else to say. I tend to stay away from the produce dept at the Camp Lejeune commissary, unless I'm going to use the item that day. It's not always the best. But the meat dept is awesome! Hope it all helps!

            • Ruth

You are right-on about the commissary. I am retired Navy and so is my husband. I have been shopping at commissaries for almost 40 years, and about the only way the civilian community can beat their prices is with BOGO sales and stacking coupons. I have had the same experience with coupons at the commissary that if something is for free or a pdf they will not take it.

I have always used coupons but attended one of Jenny's recent classes in Jacksonville, FL and found out how to “really” use coupons. I live within walking distance of a CVS and a Walgreen's, and I have never shopped there other than to print pictures. But now I know most the people who work there by their first names and give them tips on how to use coupons.

At first, my husband was apprehensive when he would come home and see bags full of “stuff” that I had bought that day at CVS or Walgreen's. He is TOTALLY on board after seeing my OOP expenses were only a dollar or two. His co-workers want me to show them how I get all this free or almost free!

            • RobinB78

I just started CVSing about a month ago and my husband was the same way! He'd look at me like I was crazy but now that he sees how much we get, for so little $$$ he's totally on board!! Of course, I do get asked “How many body washes do we REALLY need?” and stuff like that. lol

            • melirish

i like New River commissary better. I think it is cleaner an less busy.

            • RobinB78

I agree! But I tend to stick to Lejeune, since we do live right here on base in Berkley Manor! I also like the commissary at Cherry Point! We don't get up there much, but somehow the produce up there is sooooo much better!

            • melirish

We have never been to Cherry Point. Might have to check it out!

            • melirish

Hi robin, I have a question for you. Do u know if the commissary stacks coupons? like if i have a military coupon and a manufacturer coupon?

            • RobinB78

The official DeCA policy is one coupon per item. And they do not accept internet printed q's for “free” product. HOWEVER they do take internet printed BOGO coupons.

      • kcreviews

Thanks for the info! I was wondering.

      • jcd2256

Does this mean that Wilmington,NC will be doubling coupons tomorrow or in later months? Thanks for the information!

        • angeliaa

No Wilmington won't be starting in the next few weeks. First they see how GA does then they “hopefully” will open it up to the other cities including Wilmington.

      • kelli

this is fabulous! I really hope that doubling becomes a company policy!

      • Tanya

My manager did not know anything about it. I informed him about what was going on with doubling right now.

    • Kat

Carrollton, GA is one of the stores!

      • Tanya

How much are the slim jims?

        • kcreviews

          I think they were $2.50 or $2.
