Looking for things to do during the summer with kids can get frustrating and expensive, so here’s a fun deal that’s free if you are in Georgia!

When you rent the Zoo Atlanta Family Pass DVD from any public library in Georgia, you’ll receive a free admission to the zoo upon returning the DVD.  This voucher prints on your receipt.

I’ll warn you… finding this in your library will be tricky.  You might want to get on the request list now for it.

Check here for more details regarding free admission to the Atlanta Zoo.

(thanks Kati!)

Just checked one of my local libraries and they had 7 copies!! Woo Hoo

      • Amygmyrek

        where do you live?

    • Jenn

The library in Conyers, Ga will not let you check it out.  You have to watch it there!  So it makes it very easy to get these passes!!!

    • Cheapergles

You can’t request it in Gwinnett County.  Good luck figuring out which branch has the DVD.

    • Atlanta-area mommies, check this out!

    • Shannon V.

If you’re lucky enough to get it, see if you can find a friend to go with you when you return it. They can check it out right behind you (Atleast in Gwinnett since there isn’t a wait list). Last time I returned it I didn’t have a friend, so looked for moms with kids in the parking lot. The woman I found was so happy to get it after me!

I have been on the list since last summer in Forsyth County

    • Hrleonard

I have cards for both Cobb County and Fulton County and don’t see it in the online catalog search for either.

    • Aucoupontiger

Wow!! Forsyth County has 3 copies and there are 457 hold requests already!! Crazy!

      • thanks for posting.

We did go to the zoo for free this past Saturday – if you have a child born at Northside, mark your calendars for the first Saturday in June next year. Every year they have the Northside Hospital Baby Alumni Birthday Party on the first Saturday in June from 6:30-8:30 pm. Free admission for Northside babies & their families.

      • Mrs. N

oooh! Didn’t know about this – thanks!

        • Qing

Yep, we were having a country broil out in Grant park this past Saturday and saw a bunch of people coming to the zoo around this time, and asked what the occasion was. I think it’s great the hospital and zoo have such a treat each year. We fortunately know one of the managers so got our little ones into the zoo for free earlier in the day while the food was cooking. They had a blast

      • Diane

Thanks passed this on to my daughter who will be delivered at Northside in October

    • Hberry1980

Not sure if this is true for all branches, but in Tifton, GA you have to use the free pass within 7 days.  We went this past weekend and it was great!

      • Jessica

Yes I think this is the case everywhere!

    • Kat1890

If I read correctly, one pass per household per year. So I could do this for school holidays with a little planning on my part? Or is this just for the summer months? I didn’t find where it is limited to certain months of the year.

      • Shannon V.

It is year round. But you’re right, one visit per family per year.

    • Esther

I was on the hold list for the DVD but couldn’t get it in time for our planned trip to Atlanta — so my kind and generous librarian filled out the free pass for me anyway.  (I got the DVD a few weeks AFTER we’d already gone to the zoo!)  So check with your librarian — they might be able to help you out.

    • Jessica

We went last Sept and I called the library and it was available the same day.  If you wait until Sept I doubt there would be much of a wait, if any.  Apparently they have changed the procedure because when I checked it out I got the receipt needed for admission when I checked it out not when I returned it. However, that isn’t what the Zoo Atlanta website says now.  Also, you must use it within 7 days of the date on the receipt.

    • lcp

When you return the video, you must use pass within the next week.  Check your local libraries…some will let you place a hold & some are first come first serve.  This is a great deal – got in on it last summer.  Waiting for a another copy so we can go again this year!

    • jennaj81

Last year our library (Butts Co.) held a public viewing which made everything much easier. We are a small county and only received 1 copy. The librarian said with the waiting list they had it would take the rest of the year for every family to get a chance to rent it. Plus they had a problem with people checking the DVD out and keeping it for 2 weeks or longer (how rude, right?). Maybe if your library has a long waiting list you could suggest this! FYI—the pass does not cover your entire household, just 2 adults and a couple of kids (sorry can’t remember the exact #). So if you have a big family like me, you may have to get the grandparents to get a pass and come along with you to be able to get everyone in for free.

Just searched the PINES database and can’t find it… any one in the north west georgia area found it??

    • sassyteacher

I am in Atlanta, GA and the Fulton Public library had two available this morning, one at the Sandy Springs branch, which I picked up, and one at the main branch on Peachtree Street.  You will not be able to hold the passes online using your library card.  The Sandy Springs librarian told me you must call your local branch or come in person to hold.

    • sassyteacher

Also, for those in Fulton County, GA, the pass is listed in the online library catalog as “Zoo Pass”, using the advanced search, type is “DVD”, and keyword “zoo pass”.  The list of branches that may have a copy is up to date in the online search catalog.  That is how I located two this morning.

      • Hrleonard

thanks for the detailed info! we’ll wait and go in the fall since I have kids who aren’t in school yet.

    • Diane

The zoo website also has some craft ideas and there are some printables that kids would enjoy and help build excitement for a trip to the zoo.

    • jennaj81

okay, so I went to my local library get on the waiting list today and was told I could not do it again because I did it last year. I had read on the Zoo’s website (the link above) that it is once per year, not once period. But my library wouldn’t budge. Any one have ideas on what to do? Anyone else had this issue?

      •  Maybe go when a different librarian is on duty? Or go to a different branch in your county?

    • wendy

We went last month. When you return the DVD you get a written pass signed by the librarian. It does not print out. and it is good for 7 days. You can do this once a year.

    • 5higgins

Last year the Conyers GA library let you check it out and watch there and then turn it in right away and gave you the pass, they didn’t allow anyone to take it out.  We also could not get on a waiting list at our other branches.

    • Jen

Anyone know exactly how many passes it give? Just trying to figure out how many kiddos I can take…

      • Jen

Okay I figured out it is 2 adult and 2 kids.
Also, the DVD case says you can do it once a year!
