your essential shopper free

For many of you there may be a way in your local area to get a FREE Sunday paper filled with ads and coupons.  Many newspapers in an attempt to raise “subscriber” numbers have joined together to create the Yes! Program.  This brings a free paper to you every week, with all the coupons and ads in it.  The only thing you don’t get… the news.

To see if this is in your area, call your local newspaper and ask about the Yes! Program.   In my area (Columbia SC) the only requirement is that you not be a current subscriber.

Charleston Residents:  You can sign up online for the Yes! (Your Essential Shopper) program.  Delivery is FREE and you’ll get a $25 gift certificate to Restaurant.com if you respond by 12/1.

This is a great way to get your Sunday inserts without having to pay for a newspaper subscription.

If you have this in your area leave a comment to help others know what areas are participating.

Anyone know if this is available in the Atlanta metro area?

      • Dawn

I scoured the AJC website and even tried to google it for the Atlanta area, I couldn’t find anything. :(

        • Heidi

They used to do it and about 2 months ago mine stopped coming with no explanation. My guess, they got rid of it.

          • Nahi

Me too!! i thought they made a mistake or had extra copies and decided to be nice… but for me is not every sunday. I’m from metro area (Atlanta)

            • gabrielamoralesperez

its called the Evening Edge, it is delivered but only to certain homes and only in certain neighborhoods. It has the thinner version of the coupons. Sometimes its good sometimes its terrible.

          • Shanon Banks

I use to get something called “Thursday Evening News” that had all the inserts and add for free. My area stopped delivering it but I’ve noticed that neighborhood just down the road are still getting it.

            • AP

I noticed I stopped getting it but not my neighbors! :-( And thought it was b/c I’m subscribed tot he AJC, but they are also….idk!

      • Acmurphy

I just tried calling the AJC and the fellah didn’t know anything about it. They took notes on this and my phone number and said someone would call me. Well, we’ll see, but in the meantime, I’ll try poking around the ‘net for a bit and see what I can find for us!

    • Sharise Nobles

Haven’t checked to see if its available in NC but the N&O is offerring addtional Sunday papers to subscribers for $1 more/ea. Not bad if you are having to pay the full 2 bucks at the stands!

      • Needham

How do I sign up for $1 N&O?

        • BeachBumShorty

I emailed N&O. They do not participate.

    • Charla

I get it in NE Columbia.

      • slj8402

Did you sign up anywhere or call to get this? I’m in the Columbia area as well

        • guest

they just deliver it w/o signing up – its coming on early sun morning in an pick bag

          • guest

            oops Pink bag- Columbia Sc

        • I just called the State paper at 800-888-3566, asked about the program, and the girl took my info and said I would be signed up for this coming Sunday’s stuff.

      • really? How did you sign up? I have looked online with The State paper.

    • lidia

      What about Knoxville, TN?

      • mia

i know we get it in rutherford county

      • hkitty

I was going to ask about Knox-News, also. My guess is NO, they do not participate. They lose subscribers fairly frequently so I can’t see them giving out any free coupons :-(

    • Mel

The Ledger in Lakeland Florida does participate in the program. You have to call and request delivery. New subscribers only…. The operator I spoke to said participation depends on zip code though.

    • srfields

It’s in Birmingham (at least in Hoover). At the Southern Women’s Show, they talked me into getting a third Sunday paper subscription and they would include the “Yes pack.” I guess that maybe I didn’t need to subscribe to the 3rd paper if the “Yes” is free, huh? Oh well…

    • ej_M

      YES to Charleston, SC…

      • Janet

Were you able to sign up? I logged in but do not see where to actually sign up for this offer. Thank you for your time.

    • I emailed Florida Today, (Brevard County Florida) and they do participate!!

    • Maddie T.

Birmingham participates and you can sign up even if you are a current subscriber.

    • jmedina

      http://www.essentialshopper.com/yes/thanks.html
found this sign up page.. not sure what will happen.. guess we’ll find out! Worth a try!

    • Amy

      Anyone know about Huntsville, AL?

    • Laura

Anyone know is Citrus County Florida participates?? Thank you!! :)

    • tyme725

We get it here in Nashville and surrounding counties! Go to Tennessean.com

    • Janet

I just can’t figure out the Charleston Post & Courier site. I log in and see the banner ad for YES! Your Essential Shopper but I do not see anywhere to click or more forward from the page. Am I missing something?

      • blessedwith2

I just clicked on the link above and it sent me to a page that had a form to fill out so I could register. I’m in Mt Pl. Good luck. Sure hope this is a good thing and works.

        • Janet

I did too but thought that there should be something to click on after completing the form. We’ll see huh? lol Good luck to you also. Thank you.

          • Gail

The form to fill out is to enter a contest…it does not sign you up for the ads delivery.

            • blessedwith2

Do you know a correct way to sign up?

            • Gail

It looks like you have to call and ask your local newspapers if they participate. I have not personally done this yet. We just moved, and I’m still learning which local papers are here. After I filled out the form at the above-listed link, I realized that it was for a contest. =/

        • Amanda Fretz Sterling

I am in MtP and just registered. Keeping my fingers crossed!

    • ciccolellajones

Anyone know if the Charlotte Observer offers this?

    • Veronica

I was transferred 3 times but the Tennessean just outside of Murfreesboro ( Nashville area) participates.

      • spi_cy13

Really? To sign up, do you just call the Tennessean’s 1-800 number, or is it a different number? I cancelled their paper a few weeks ago (because of their Comcast-like price increase); do you think I can still sign up?

        • Kristen M.

I also cancelled my subscription a few months ago and was told I could sign up. I’m in the Spring Hill area. I called 1-800-342-8237. The operator was having a computer issue and said she would have to sign me up after tech support fixed her computer. Hopefully she doesn’t have to call me back!

    • Simply Southern Couponers

I do not get the Augusta Chronicle here at my house how would I know if this is in my area. Or can I sign up for it?

      • Michelle

The Augusta Chronicle does not participate in the Yes program.

    • Chelsea

Anyone know about the Greenville News (SC)?

      • lj

I’m wondering too. I dread calling them… I always get put on hold for 30+ min. Literally. I usually turn my speaker phone on and go about my business till they pick up. And I don’t have time to wait today.

      • Pattie

Yes, it is available through the Greenville News. Just call the customer service number and request it. The lady said it is usually delivered on Wednesdays. We will see how this works! :)

      • Elizabeth

Yes, they offer it. I just signed up so we’ll see how it goes! Fingers crossed!!

      • Elizabeth

Yes, they offer it. I just signed up so we’ll see how it goes! Fingers crossed!!

      • Elizabeth

Yes, they offer it. I just signed up so we’ll see how it goes! Fingers crossed!!

    • Kelly

The Orlando Sentinel just told me No! :(

    • gabrielamoralesperez

I doubt these coupons will be what you would typically get in a major market sunday paper. Probably the thinner version.

      • Robynne1971

We get them in our area (Murfreesboro, TN) and they are almost always exactly the same as the ones in the “paid” newspaper (Tennessean). They DON’T include the GM inserts though. Also, they are hit and miss as to which houses they deliver to (some weeks some houses, some weeks others, even if you sign up).

    • Anyone know about the Greenwood, SC area? Index Journal?

      • Elizabeth

Index Journal knew nothing of it but the Greenville paper does offer it.

    • The Gainesville Sun in Florida participates! YAY!! You just cant be a current subscriber.

      • thx for checking – we miss out on sooooo many coupons in this region!

    • soundring

Panama City News Herald says they do NOT participate.

      • samantha

        Thanks for checking :)

    • J. Howard

I called the Houston Chronicle. As far as customer service could tell, they are not part of the program. Also called the Daily News, they are not part of the program.

      • J T Johnson

Thanks for your help : )

    • blessedwith2

Any one tried Tallahassee Democrat? My parents live there and collect coupons for me so I’d love to get them signed up

    • Sarah

      https://services.bhamnews.com/YesSignup/

Found this link for the Birmingham News!

    • esseay

Out of the blue, I started getting the SmartSource every Weds in Batesburg for over a year, it stopped coming a couple of months ago, maybe this is what changed…

      • love_to_coupon_in_sc

I live in Aiken and I still get them when I get my weekly ads on Tuesdays. I hope mine doesn’t stop too! :(

        • I live in aiken and get the paper and don’t get this how do you get coupons on tuesday only free thing i get is bilo ad.

    • andi330

Although I have recently moved, I was living in the Columbia area and I can say that unfortunately, you cannot get this if you live in an apartment. It took me 2 weeks of thinking I would get it after signing up before someone would admit that to me, but it’s true. If you can’t, see if you can find a friend with a house who doesn’t get the paper who wouldn’t mind signing up for you.

    • Glo

I got it for the Tennessean in Nashville. I just called to start a new subscription and asked for the Yes program instead.

    • Does the Charlotte Observer do this . If so who do I call

    • Monica

The Virginian Pilot has this program, of which I readily signed up for. However, in the past 3 months since signing up, I’ve gotten coupons 3 times. Most Sundays I will get ads for Northern Tool and maybe Parade. So basically, I get more trash to throw away:( I’ve yet to get Walmart, Kmart, Target, etc. I hope the program is better regulated in other states.

      • Kristi

I can’t find info on the Pilot carrying it ;(

    • Gabi

I’m in Columbia, SC and have called The State paper at least half a dozen times to get this delivered again. They keep telling me they’ll deliver it, but no such luck. We did get it for about 3 months maybe a year or so ago, and then it stopped all of a sudden. But good luck to everybody else, because the coupon inserts are exactly the same as the ones in the paper.

    • RaisingHolyArrows

Chattanooga Times Free Press does participate – you only get the Smart Source insert free though.

      • Angela

Do you just call circulation or what? I live in SD so do you think it would be something that would be available out here? Any info or numbers you could give me would be appreciated. Thanks a bunch!!!

      • Ann

They didn’t have a clue when I called. Do you have any details? Thanks!!

    • Michele Roberts

Can you send me a link to The State to do this? I live in Lancaster, SC, and would be so happy to get this!!

    • Michelle

The Savannah Morning News and the Bluffton today do not participate in this program (I work there). Thought I would save everyone the trouble of calling. Michelle Rubrecht – Savannah Savvy Shopper

      • Michelle

The Savannah Morning News does offer a discount when you have multiple Sunday papers delivered to your home. You can email me for more info savvyshopper@savannahnow.com (Jenny if this isn’t ok to post here please let me know)

    • wklsunflower

I got a NO from Tampa Times and Tampa Tribune..they never heard of it

    • Guest

      Charlotte doesn’t do it BOO…

    • Does anyone know if this is going on in Mississippi or Memphis, TN?

    • Amber

I can’t find anything on the Virginian Pilot’s website. I guess I’m going to have to call to see if the Hampton Roads area participates.

    • sue

I called our local paper.about the yes program. and they knew nothing about a free sunday paper. not here in Cleveland,Tenn.

    • Check with Chattanooga Times Free Press and Catoosa County News and they both stated they did not offer this service without a subscription. Thanks for the tip it was definitely worth a try! :)

    • Just signed up for Charleston, SC. Can’t wait to get my free Sunday paper!

    • Colleen

I live outside Nashville and currently have a subscription to the Tennessean. Do you think they will still allow me to be on the Yes program?

      • l1nuxx

No, if you get the Sunday paper you can’t get the YES paper either. But your not missing out on anything because they only deliver the YES paper about 1 in every six months. The delivery drivers make more money selling the bundles to coupon fanatics. Grrrrr

The Tampa Bay Times-Tampa,Florida does not have the Yes Program but this weekend they are having a deal on the Sunday Paper,Oct 25-28, only 50 cents a paper making it $26 for the year. You have to go the Tampa Bay Times site an sign up an pay, this is an internet deal only, but hey what a deal !!!!!!!

    • Td

We get it in Birmingham, but it doesn’t have all the coupon inserts the Sunday paper does. Has anyone else noticed this or am I missing something? I usually get several ads, but seldom do I get all of the coupons.

    • Teri

Does anyone know if The Herald in Rock Hill, SC is participating? I called and the lady seemed like she didn’t know what I was talking about.

    • Amy

Just called the STATE newspaper, Columbia SC, and they made it very simple. Only asked me what my zip was to make sure I was eligible. I was, and so they took my address down, and said I would receive my first copy this weekend. :-) Thanks for posting this!

      • staceye

Did you receive yours? I also call the state and she said I would start getting it this weekend, but I haven’t received. Does it come Sunday? I’m in West Columbia.

        • melynn

I called the State also and signed up but I have yet to receive it. It’s been 3 weekends now. My neighbor received a phone call this past week asking if she wanted it and she received the coupons yesterday but I have yet to receive them.

    • grayeyes0371

Does the Aiken Standard do this?

    • Victoria Kershner

Thanks for posting this! I have been receiving this paper for a few years now and within the past few months I have asked a couple of the neighbors who don’t pick theirs up if I can pick theirs up for them each week. So now I get 3 free sets of coupon inserts per week. PLUS we get a local paper on Tuesdays and the girl who delivers to me gives me a bunch of extra inserts (usually just SS) so I get stocked up and never have to buy a paper!
      I am in Greer,SC.

    • Tina

Where do I call from Osage Beach, Missouri area? We get the Post-dispatch(which for some reason we don’t get all the retail store ads as St. Louis, Mo. does but they raise our price on these papers).

    • hazybuck

I hit the customer service center (in INDIA) for the AJC. After explaining in detail what the program was, and sitting on hold for about 8 minutes . . . they don’t participate. bummer, but thanks for the tip!

    • moonbeam2110

Do they offer this in Anderson SC

    • sheryl heiker

Sighned up for this and received only sporadically. Havent had a yes paper in 5 or 6 weeks. This goes for my entire neighborhood. The problem with sighning up is if you don’t get your yes paper you do not get grocery ads. Makes it really difficult to grocery shop or compare ads. Would rather not be sighned up for yes.

    • frustrated

I signed up and only have received one in past 4 months!

    • lprice99

I signed up and received 1 or 3 in over a year, but my neighbor had 13 in her driveway!
