Water Missions International – Give the gift of fresh water. We all have enough “stuff” so why not give something we take for granite to someone else. They have varying gifts from digging a well to water containers.

I would give her a gift basket with some candles, scented lotions, etc. and include a book of coupons that give her a little time to herself to use the relaxation items. I would LOVE to get that from my husband…a backrub, an uninterrupted soak in the tub with the candles and bath wash that you put in the basket, a coupon for a daddy date – one with no one but you at the table, and one with you and the kids, leaving her at home to do anything she wants – coupon void if she cleans. The point is to give her a chance to recharge her batteries. Good luck on the Christmas quest! PS, Bath and Body works has a great new scent out called Twilight Woods…rather exotic and nice.

Here are several ideas-as I don’t know your budget:
Digital video camera-they are reasonable right now with many sales forthcoming I am sure (around $150)
Make her an appointment at a spa-and pay ahead of time-gift cert. are passe- make the appointment for her so she has to do nothing! (varies by services $50-$500)
Set up a girls afternoon-get her closes friends together and set them up with a lunch date and a mani/pedi-you pay-so they can all enjoy it!
Vermont Teddy Bear- they have a variety to choose from and are delivered to work or home.
Build a Bear-you can create one to match her personality
Jewelry is always an option-the new knot style that has come out is my favorite. All chain stores are carrying a variety of this. The stones don’t have to be enormous-they vary in size and price.

I may purchase something with free shipping but it won’t be for Christmas. If I don’t have Christmas bought before then there won’t be any Christmas at my house. LOL I’m an early shopper, start right after New Year’s for next year but then I can’t remember where I put it.

I am doing good if I get started on my Christmas shopping the week before Christmas!! :)

        • Bobbie

Oh my goodness that would worry me to death. My brother-in-law and his wife always waited until Christmas eve to shop. I save lots of money at sales during Jan and Feb. But like I said it’s hard to keep up with. I usually write down what I buy for each one but was lax this past year.

A gift certificate for a day at the spa- she can get away, relax, get a massage, whatever she likes. When she gets home, the house will be clean and a delicious dinner waiting for her-thats where you come in :) Merry Christmas!

A maid- to give her time to do other things and not worry so much about housework.

      • jennifer

this is a really good one! like a maid for a year! maybe a company would sponsor that for advertising :) she truly deserves that for all that she has done for us!!!!!!!

a trip away! 3 nights minimum, no kids (with you of course :) ) childcare arranged, meals for kids arranged, someone to do her posts arranged :) , somewhere with no phones, no computers, no tv (unless she would really enjoy the tv!) maybe a bed and breakfast? nice idea hubby! have fun!

I recommend a nice organizer/planner, since she’s obviously a busy lady. I have my eye on a pretty Italian leather Franklin Covey to keep all coupons, lists, bills, and dates organized.

I asked for a new wedding band (not engagement ring). I have wanted one for years and intended for it to be my tenth anniversary gift. However I got a COUPON in the mail from our local jeweler and can’t resist. Hey, it is only two years early:-)

Use your computer to make some creative vouchers for babysitting (by someone other than you) and other intangible gifts that you can provide. I am sure she would love to use one of those vouchers when Publix and CVS had a huge week and she could go to the stores kid-free without feeling guilty about leaving them home with you. Good luck hubby!

I think a love letter would be priceless! maybe tuck it in a novel she has been wanting to read. A letter that recounts how you met, your wedding day, the birth of your children…. a keepsake.

My hubby tries to get me something useful…not so thrilling. If he gave me a love letter (not a note!) I think I would pass out!! from joy of course..LOL!! Good luck! I sure do appreciate all the work she does to help our family afford our necessities.

This may sound quirky but give her the gift of time. I am the first to say a new coach purse and fabulous new boots and of course a tiny box under the tree with something shiney. However, we are all so blessed with things and as a full time working mother of 3, the thing that means the most to me is my time. Not necessarily time away from the kids or away from my husband, just time. One Saturday that I could spend without picking up toys behind the 3 year old or a Saturday that laundry isn’t looming in the laundry room would be the most memorable gift of all. We do lots of activities with our kids but after the fun, there is still “stuff” to do. If my husband arranged a day that the house was already cleaned, the laundry is all caught up and he and the kids woke me up and told me it is my day for us to do whatever and let the worries of life go – I mean let them go completely – that would be the best Christmas gift ever. Time is the one gift that we can never top. Good luck!

I love the new Pandora bracelet (now available at Jared). You can view it online at Pandora-Jewelry.com. It’s an updated “charm” bracelet. It’s the perfect gift b/c you only start with the bracelet and a few charms, then you can buy her additional charms for her birthday, other holidays, etc. That way you won’t be in this boat next Christmas!

      Than’s what I need bad.

    • Crystal T.

Okay. The biggest issues are the what not to buys:
      1. Don’t buy anything she will have to work to use (appliances, pans, stuff like that).
      2. Gift certificates just say that you did not take the time to go get her a gift that is personal.
      3. Money says the same thing.

As for the actual gift, what about something that will bring back a precious memory everytime she sees it? A painting or picture of the place you got engaged at, a mother’s ring/ couple’s ring, or a music or jewelry box that plays a special song?

I love getting the baskets that are mentioned above. You could do a robe, socks, bath stuff, spa trip, type thing. Also, don’t forget to get the house cleaned by a cleaning service for her. Now I truly loved that gift. A day away and when I came home, my house was spotless!
