I just got home from shopping at Food Lion for the first time in 5 years.  I had to get an MVP card just shop… never had one of those before.  I’m proud of Food Lion for finally having such an awesome sale that you lured me in.  Keep it up!

We ran to Food Lion and Publix tonight.  I am so exhausted that I had no energy to line everything up for you.  Here’s a picture of the massive amount we grabbed.  If you were in the store with me I apologize for my twins who were singing at the top of their lungs in the buggy.  Really I’m sorry if the song they were singing is now stuck in your head…  it’s not quite the right time of the year for Joy to the World.

I had all of last weeks Grocery money so we made this really two weeks worth of shopping.

Food Lion:
Total Before Sales & Coupons – $123.89
Total Spent – $48.33
Total Saved – $75.56 or 61%

Publix:
Total Before Sales & Coupons – $160.27
Total Spent – $50.73
Total Saved – $109.54 or 68.5%

Weekly Totals:
Before Sales & Coupons – $284.16
Spent – $99.06
Saved – $185.10 or 65.2%

A few comments to frequently asked questions:

  • What coupons did you use?” Honestly guys I print the shopping list from Southern Savers and use the coupons matched right there.  Remember everything on the list is the lowest price for that item in that store.  Coupon or no coupon, many times it is still a great deal.  Tonight I didn’t stray at all from list… so much so that I forgot Milk because I didn’t write it down.
  • Savings is great but “what about the time it takes?” I clocked myself.  I spent 35 minutes to cut coupons for both stores.  I spent 45 minutes in Food Lion shopping (I had no clue where anything was) and then spent 32 minutes in Publix which included time to chat with my favorite grocery manager.
Total Time Spent: 1 hour 52 minutes
That means I basically made $99.16 an hour to use coupons!!!
  • “I can’t handle shopping every store in town”
My norm is really only one store a week.  Look over the lists and pick the best store for your needs for that week.  I also use the $1 or less list to get a quick glimpse of what store would be best to spend my time on.  Then use the main weekly list for that store to get ready.

Okay your turn.  How did you do this week?  Leave a comment or a link to your savings post.
