Mississippi River

Happy Friday!  This has been a fun and productive week!  Today we took the really really long way from Jackson MS to Tupelo MS.  So long that we went through 2 other states to get there.  It was done intentionally just to have some family time and to add a few more states to our family scrapbook (we are one of those crazy families that gets out and takes pictures at state lines).

For shopping this week I made it out to Kroger and Walgreens.

Kroger:
Total Before Sales and Coupons: $66.18
Total Spent: $38.10
Total Saved: $28.08

I got a few Mega Event items and the rest was stocking up from that Half price Clearance Wine spot.  We don’t really need any but it will great for the holidays.  I also got a lot of rain checks since most of the great Mega Event deals were long gone.

Walgreens:
Total Before Sales and Coupons: $28.99
Total Spent: $8.44
Total Saved: $20.55

I stocked up on clearance makeup and got a few of the other weekly deals.   I also got some of the clearance expandable towels for our Operation Christmas Child Boxes.

How did you do this week?  Leave a link to your savings post or a comment.  If you don’t have a blog but want to share a picture you can post it in the community for everyone to see!

Wow, look at that photo. I have never seen the Mississippi with my own eyes, but I sure hope to do so one day. We did something similar a few weeks ago, when we surprised the boys after school with a camping trip to the Florida Keys. Sometimes family time away from all the technology and craziness of our city life is much needed.

You even got some great shopping done too! I barely made it to the store this week, as it has been absolutely crazy. I ended up taking the bus there with two of my boys, and then walking back to my middle son’s school….just in case I don’t get to do any real shopping done at all this week, at least I got a few of the deals.

I would like to invite you (and everyone else) to link up your savings at the Weekly Savings Linky @ Frugality Is Free , it’s a great place to connect with other frugalistas.

I also want to share a couple of great giveaways that I am hosting. Aldi has finally made its way to South Florida, and to celebrate I am giving away 7 x $25 Aldi gift certificates. I am also giving away 2 x $25 Del Monte gift certificates, which can be used almost anywhere.

    • The Mississippi River is so pretty we used to cross over the bridge on our way to our yearly visit to Grandma's in Arkansas. We love to drive also-no big rivers here but some Great Lakes!

Have a great weekend and thanks for hosting.

I just can't fathom how you all do it saving so much with cupons??! I have tried to catch sales and use e-cupn's with my manf's ones and I still never have those savings….EveR..lol I guess I just need to stockpile all of the others things up to the point that you all have and then I can have those savings…maybe I have been doing this for about 4 months. I even told my husband that he had to put a shelving unit up for me in a closet upstairs so that I could stash all of my stuff (hoping that I have a stash soon) in there…

      • laura

I don't really stock pile…. I saved about 80% last time I went to the grocery store. It just depends on what you buy, and how much of the stuff you buy is on sale.

    • Athena

      I meant Coupons…lol

Good week for me. I shopped Publix, Bilo, Dollar General, Rite Aid, Walgreens, Home Depot(went for the ray o vac batteries and got a flash light while I was there) and the Rack Room (they e-mailed me a $5 coupon even though I live in Tn), anyway. Total before coupons w/sales tax $201.20, total out of pocket w/sales tax $34.52. I love good deals. Thank you SS.

Welcome to Tupelo! Thanks for coming! Looking forward to your class tomorrow and meeting you!

    • kelli

I hope you guys are having an awesome trip!

I've been so busy the last 2 weeks that I just finally made it to Kroger today for the Mega sale. Surprisingly they had everything that I was looking for. I was shocked. I also went to Rite Aid and CVS this week.

Kroger: I mostly got mega sale items but I also bought marked down bread and sour cream, without those my total would've been about $5 less.
      before sales/coupons: $82.54
      oop: $9.12
      saved: $73.42 or 89%

I'm hopefully going to make it back to Kroger tomorrow to use up the rest of my coupons. I used 36 today. I've got a pile more to use up.

      CVS
      before sales/coupons: $5.76
      oop: $.16
      saved: $5.60 or 97%

      Rite Aid
      before sales/coupons: $168.45
      oop: $4.13
      saved: $164.32 or 97.5%
ended the week with $22 more in +ups then I started with! :)

      • Kb

where can I see your rite aid matchups?

        • kelli

Jenny has great match ups. I did several of the +up deals multiple times, matched them with coupons and I did really well. My husband and I each have a video values account, as well as my mom and aunt (I do a lot of shopping for them), so I have access to 4 sets of vv coupons. I did 5 transactions throughout the week. I bought 8 garnier hair dye and 4 shampoo, 5 nivea body wash, 1 finish quantumatic, 2 oxiclean, 2 halls, 1 crest toothpaste, 1 oral b toothbrush, and some marked down halloween candy (I think that's it).

      • kelli

went to Kroger again today. spent $4.58 and saved $67.22 or 94%

I hit up Bi-Lo and Publix this afternoon.

At Publix – got a cart full of groceries for $33.12, saved $57.93

Bi-Lo is having the meal deal, so I did a large order with a meal deal – spent $52.49 and saved $86.35. Then did a separate meal deal for $6.99 plus tax – saved around $9 by getting the ice cream, coke and instant rice FREE with the PF Chang's frozen dinner.

I got the turkey at $.49 a lb with $1 off, 11 free Martha White cornbread mixes, 10 steamfresh veggies and lots of other food we like!

I'm waiting for Sunday to see what Kroger will have on sale next week. And waiting for the new Walgreen's ad so I can get inexpensive sparkling juice for New Year's, peanut butter, and Durkee onions for green bean casserole for Thanksgiving.

best deal i have had this week… 5 boxes of cereal for a total of .07 cents at Food Lion. 4 of them were special K that they had on clearance then they also had a 50 cent box of their brand of cereal that I figured hey why not if its 50 cents. so I got 5.00 off for the Kelloggs thing they have going and ended up just paying with a nickel and 2 pennies for all 5 boxes.

      • Courtney

Thanks for coming to Jackson! SO enjoyed the workshop (you are hilarious!) and meeting you. Thanks again for all you do.

Wal mart has Campbells cream of chicken for $.70. There is a peelie for $.55 off which makes for $.15 per can. You can't beat that for the holidays.

    • Ammshorty29

I went to Kroger and stocked up on some of the Mega Event items. I ended up with $115 worth of groceries for $9. My savings was about 92%. That's the best savings I've ever done. I purchased several of the Welch's grape juice, Land o Lakes butter, frozen pizzas, cream of chicken and cream of mushroom soups, beef broth, stuffing mixes, and even a few Advils. With five children, it's great to be able to stock up and pay so little!! Thank you for your website!!
