I went out tonight and had a night to myself in Publix.  It may seem backwards, but I think I spend more money when my kids aren’t with me in the store.  I tend to mosey around the store and enjoy my time, which means more things I put into the buggy.  I did pretty good considering some of the high priced items we needed.

Publix:
Total before sales and coupons: $331.50
Total Spent: $134.55
Total Saved: $196.95 or 59.4%

To help some of you see in other areas that this can work for you, this only included 4 coupons that doubled ($2 in savings) and was with no competitor coupons.

It was a lot more than we usually would spend, but it did included $19.98 in pecans, $18.67 in Salmon, $11.59 in ham, milk, eggs, cheese, and $21.40 in fresh fruit.  We have everything to make Christmas dinner plus a few other fun treats (homemade cinnamon rolls are already in the oven).

How did you do this week? Leave a comment or a link to your savings post.

      Jenny,
Why didn’t you use coupons? You post such great deals, but you don’t get them, I don’t understand?
Do you spend over $100 each week?

      • Stephanie

She did use coupons, just not competitor coupons.  I don’t think there’s any way to save $196.95 just on sale pricing.  That amount is sale plus coupons.

      • My normal budget is $50 per week, but you’ll notice that I take at least one if not two weeks off per month from shopping.  I did use a number of coupons on this trip, totaling over $90 in coupons.

    • Me and my friend went out today and hit a few stores. At Old Navy since they were pretty dead they let us do 4 trasactions and used 2 of the groupons and 2 coupons we had earned for 40% off and with all the amazing deals we got over $137 worth of stuff for just $34 OP and the $20 in payment for Groupon.

Then we went to Children’s Place used a coupon we found online on one trasaction and a coupon I had earned for shopping there one the second and got $120 worth for $50 not the most amazing but we love that store.

Then we hit Staples and got 4 sets of the ear buds and a flash drive for free and used our rewards we already had to get $30 worth of Cryola stuff for free and a few stamps I needed for my business which where $30  for $12.

Lol next we attacked Wal-mart. We got 5 Little Mommy dolls for free with the $10 off coupon and price match against Kinney’s, $120 of Monster High dolls for $54 price matched against Kinney’s also, 10 first Aid kits for free, 4 bags of carrots we made .60 cents each on thanks to Recylebank, 4 Axe gift sets for $6.99 price match vs Kinney’s and 19 DVD’s for $2 each price matched against our Big Lots. The DVDs were $152 before price match.

      So we spent about $213
Got about $713 worth of stuff.

Then we sat and had lunch at a Chinese place to reward ourself….paid full price lol

I found an awesome deal at Rite-Aid this week with the Arm and Hammer toothbrushes and the Oragel Toddler toothpaste.  They have b1g1 for each of these items, plus get $5 plus up reward when you get $10 worth of them.  There are coupons out there for both products, plus an $8 rebate after you buy 8 products.  Here is what I did:
Bought 2 Arm and Hammer Spinbrush toothbrushes – paid $6 (after coupons)
Bought 2 Toddler Orajel toothpastes – paid $3 (after a coupon)
      Got $5 back
Went back and bought 4 Toddler Orajel toothpastes – paid $4 (after coupons) Got $5 back
      Mail-in rebate – $8
I made money on $41 worth of oral care!

The rebate will not work – it states you cannot use it with any other offers including coupons…..read the fine print before you waste your time and a stamp.

PAYING FULL PRICE HURTS MY FEELINGS NOW !! It happens at Walmart lately. I only had ONE coupon to use on my purchase : (  That was for $ 1 off cheese Fl. q.  I planned on using my lil smokies q’s and got there and they only sold Bryans, not hillshire. The generic conf. sugar was still cheaper than Publix along with flour and all the other staple items I had to have, so when I checked out, it was $96.00 !!!  OUCH. I hate that now that I coupon !LOL  The day before, I went to Publix and spent $15.29 on $127.01 worth of various items including medicine, pizza rolls, crackers, ect on B1G1 this week. DIdn’t take pics, but I did 12/17 when I spent 126.00 on $500 worth ! Will post a pic from one of those transactions.

      • It’s getting to be more and more of a pain to even bother with Walmart

Dear SS,  I want you to know that often I am stopped in the store and asked how I do it, and I will write down my 3 best go-to sites, but I ALWAYS tell them if you only get one,you have to make it Southernsavers! It is my favorite and posts sales before they ad begins so I can prepare and I like the way she marks the stock up items !  So, I know alot of folks here in the Pensacola area follow you and we thank you so much : D Merry Christmas and be blessed for all you do!

      • sissy

do you mean the acorns? as stockup items….I don’t think that is what they are for, but I do wish Jenny marked the stockup prices with the acorns.

        • Sarahbeth1210

The acorns are for stockup prices.

          • sissy

I asked Jenny about this, and she told me that everything that is listed is stock up (atleast 40% off), and the acorns are to draw attention to particularly great deals, usually a $1 or less.

          • my classmate’s aunt makes $74/hour on the computer. She has been laid off for 7 months but last month her income was $7645 just working on the computer for a few hours. Read more on this site.. CashLazy.com

I haven’t been able to coupon shop in weeks and its making me sad :( I miss going to the store. This has been a hard week I have a TON of ECB that I used my sisters Extra Care Card to purchase and she can’t find the card :( $20 down the drain.

I have realized that grocery stores are by far the best deals than walmart. My mom went to get baking supplies at walmart bc she had a giftcard. They wouldn’t take half our coupons and none of the stuff was on sale! :( Merry Christmas to everyone! I agree southernsavers is the first site I tell people that live in the south to use..

      • They can pull up your card by telephone #.  AND she can request a new card- but it may not come before the ECB expire.  Try her tele #.  works for me several times when hubby takes my set of keys

      • She can also go on line and request them to be reprint and most store will still honor expired coupons, If she explained what happened they have always worked with me. Shoot they send me emails when my ecb are expired and let me reprint them, with another expiration date furthure out.

I did great this week – because I was all stocked up from previous weeks.  Picked up a couple of extras and main items for Christmas dinner, including the meat and some fresh vegetables. I think I ended up spending around $60.  This is unheard of for a holiday meal.  2011 has been a difficult year.  I am so grateful to be able to stretch my resources through couponing with the assistance of Southern Savers….definitely the best site around! Have a very Blessed Christmas.

Had a great week at publix myself this week, went in to buy grocery that totaled a little over 114.00 and went in with 118.00 worth of coupons, when we left I ended up being given over 2.00 and all my grocery. Woooo Hooooo. I love publix.

      • sissy

        HOW???

    • Cross2stitch2003

I had a great week at Publix.  Probably the best I have ever done since couponing.  I have been at for 7 months now.  I went in and the bill was about $112.00 and I paid a little over $48.00.  I got 6 boxes of Alka Seltzer for free!!
