This week was an off week for me.  Instead of shopping I basically went “un-shopping” and cleaned out every cupboard and pantry.  We are moving in a few weeks and for a stockpile grocery shopper this is a bit of an ordeal.  It’s amazing what can get pushed to the back of a bathroom cabinet.  I found 6 boxes of ThermaCare heat wraps, 10+ tubes of toothpaste, countless sticks of deodorant, at least 10 bottles of body wash and lot more.

For some of these items they are brands that we learned long ago that we don’t like, and I see little need to move with items that we will never use.  So…  I boxed it all up and gave it away!  For the pantry we are going to go on a pantry clean out plan for the next few weeks with the goal of eating things up that we haven’t touched in ages.  Don’t get me wrong the goal is not to clean everything out, it’s important in saving money that you have a small stockpile, we are just going to work on some of the more random items.  I think we have at least 10 boxes of muffin mix, so breakfast this week will be lots of blueberry and cranberry muffins.  On Monday next week I’m sharing a post on menu plans so I’ll share our crazy plans for the next two weeks to tackle 8 bottles of bbq sauce and other oddities of our stockpile.  Other than produce needs, I’m hoping to not shop at all next week either.  We’ll see how the plan goes!

How did you do this week?  Leave a comment or a link to your savings post.

Jenny, good luck with your move! We move cross country and end up giving things away when we move. It makes the process easier. Last time we were in temporary housing for over two months! Yikes! Hope you move goes well!
This month I started my stock pile with your help! I appreciate all your hard work teaching and helping us save money! My best day was Rite Aid and Bi-Lo. I spent $49 for $252 worth of groceries, cleaning supplies and clearance make up. I also had $11 in UPs and $4 in catalinas for next time. Every day I played double coupons at Lowes Foods and got all the Harris Teeter deals. I can not believe the wonderful deals I got thanks to you.

Remember you can use those mixes for good pancakes too. Can’t wait to read your pantry clean out meal plan.

I’ve couponed for 7 years and did 33-60% until my sewwt friend from church mentionned you. Well, i’ve done even better saving 85% this week and am thrilled. If I shop well for one cycle (8 weeks or so), i can usually get by without shopping for anything but fresh produce and milk for 2 months or so. I get beef from a farmer friend, 1/2 beef at a time for 2.38/lb. His are very well fed and taste much better. It helps alot to make a menu for your sale weeks, you only have to do it once, because they rotate. All our extras we give to a local boy’s home, they can always use razors, soaps, and toothpastes. Check your area shelters for your area.

My family is getting ready to move next month. I was packing some books today and used some paper napkins and pads from my stockpile to fill in some empty spots! I’m hoping they’ll work just as good as packing peanuts :)
