Hello from rainy L.A.!  I flew out this morning for a whirlwind two day trip to attend the Independent Film Awards as a guest of Aveeno.  Today was a long day of pampering and learning about all the cool things that Aveeno has on the horizon, they might even send us home with some things that aren’t even on the market yet!

Tomorrow, myself and 24 other bloggers (all fashion and beauty blogs – I am definitely the oddball here) are hanging at the awards ceremony in the Aveeno backstage lounge, so follow me on Facebook and Twitter to see who we are meeting.  I know Nicole Kidman, Natalie Portman, Samuel L Jackson, Ben Stiller, and a number of other big names are nominees so hopefully we’ll get to meet a few of them.  It will be a fun day I have no doubt!

As for shopping savings (what this post is really about):

I went to Kroger, CVS, Publix, and Walgreens this week!  That’s huge for me, but I was on a roll and lovin’ it.

Kroger:
Total before sales and coupons: $199.58
Total spent: $76.54
Total saved: $123.04 or 62%

I went a tad over board on Hefty trash bags.  They are $3.50 after the mega event and coupons and that’s an awesome price.  So almost half of this is trash bags and Reynolds foil.  The rest is produce and other foods.

Publix:
Total before sales and coupons: $15.42
Total spent: $3.21
Total saved: $12.21 or 79.2%

This was just Bertolli Pasta Sauce.  I had to wait for Sunday’s $1.50/2 coupon to grab it.

Walgreens:
Total before sales and coupons: $24.19
Total spent: $8.41
Total saved: $15.78
Register Rewards Remaining: $4 ($2, $2)

CVS:
Total before sales and coupons: $9.96
Total spent: $1.15
Total saved: $8.81 or 88.5%
Extra Care Bucks Remaining: $4.99 ($4, 99¢)

Weekly Total:
Total before sales and coupons: $249.15
Total spent: $89.31
Total saved: $159.84 or 64%

That’s more than I like to spend in a week, but it’s almost entirely trash bags that sent us over and the deal was good enough to do in my book :)

My Friday final is reading this post. We had the flu (the third week of sickness in our house) so I was at no store at all. I would like to comment on your purchases, Jenny. I am learning a lot from you personally. You don't go overboard in purchasing anything and everything. That is a good lesson for others.

I know we can't make others be more considerate (or less greedy to put it plainly) but we can surely set the right example in reasonable purchases.

Just as an example of how extreme some take couponing, a couple of months ago I was in CVS standing in front of the toothpaste – one of the moneymakers but also a product my husband has to use. A young man and woman came down the aisle, reached around me and grabbed the one and only box of toothpaste. They sort of waved it in front of my face and said, “That's a great deal, isn't it!?!”

I was more shocked to see them go immediately with just that one item and check out. I could see the cashier's expression and she didn't look happy at all. They must have an unfavorable reputation.

So to those who make reasonable purchases, thank you for setting a good example in kindness and consideration.

LOL That happens to me at yard sales frequently. If I look interested in something, someone reaches around me (while I'm looking) and carts it off. I have learned to just carry it with me until I decide.

    • Maria

We have all been sick, but i mustered up the energy to make a quick trip to Kroger this week, spent a total including tax $3.40, saved $209.91, even sick, that made me feel great.

    • LD

Wow sounds like a great time for you this week . Hope it is great weather for you all. Have fun and maybe even some great deals .

    • SydneyC

Is Bertolli Pasta Sauce on sale at Publix?

      • It ended with the sale on Tuesday or Wednesday this week. Now its Classico Pasta sauce

    • Mickie

My biggest deal this week was Weight Watchers SmartOnes meals for 90 cents each at Target!

    • Jnaylon419

I am so excited. This was my first week in coupon training. I have also been able to strech my dollars but this week I got a year supply of Finish Tabs, Two pair of jeans, stocked up the family medicine cabinet and paid $4.88 at Target. Then Publix: lots of Italian there. Did my weekly shoppingfor $79 out of pocket with a savings of $106. I have been on a $65-$75 food budget for 2 years with a family of four and finally we can eat. Thanks to Southern Savers and the kind lady at my local South Florida Target that shared this secret!!! -Happy Mom of Twins in Davie, Fl

Jenny, welcome to my hometown (L.A). Hope you have fun at the Awards. LA's a crazy town so be careful out there. :) Love, Kelly

    • I really enjoy your blog and especially your shopping lists. Thank you.

    • Momma Kirby

I saved $93 on my first coupon experience at Publix. You made it sooo easy. I'm starting to get the sunday paper which will make it even easier in the future so I won't have to print as many coupons. But THANK YOU!! I'm a new stay at home mom and am so glad to be able to add more to our monthly funds

Glad I don't live in LA they have the worst air in the country by the way.

I also think by attending events like this they spend millions goes against your blog as its about saving money. I find hollywoody to be very greedy and not about saving money. Just a thought. I for one will no longer buy Aveeno products.

    • Damarisarroyo691

Today at walgreens I purchased arm and hammer toothpaste which is $3.99 a type. Well they were buy one, get one free. I had a coupon for $1 off coupon for each. They ended up costing me $1 each!

I am getting so much better at this lately, my totals for this week were: All of my trips were between Publix and Kroger. Rite Aid was out of my stuff but I did get a rainchecks so hopefully it will be in on Tuesday before my Rewaqrds expire.

      Anyways, total numbers are :

Total before coupons and savings: $314.28
      Savings and coupons: $314.28
      OOP $94.30
Still have $6 of Kroger coupons – $10.50 of Rite Aid Rewards – $17.58 in ECB's

I was going to type up the list but there are 144 items on it so I will just say I got a ton of stuff, mostly canned and stockpiled for a very small amount.

I am making a publix trip again tomorrow I think for a few things I have not gotten yet.

    • Spbyhelen

Tuesday I bought $129.61 in groceries at Publix, paid $36.24; Wednesday I bought $13.36 in pasta at Publix, paid $1.46 (had to add on 3 packs of gum to get out of the negative!) I was thrilled with my first 2 attempts at couponing! Can't wait to do more!

      • Helen

Correction – I bought $14.82 in pasta and gum at Publix and paid $1.46 :)

    • Stefluvs2sign

Tried to post a pic but didn't work bc I had to link it to my FB. All of my couponing photos I send from my phone to FB so I can't post one sorry but I paid $8.93 at Publix saved $100.22!

    • Hippychic11575

I did great at CVS last night (for today's deals). I bought 2 Charmin tp, 2 Cover Girl eye lights mascara, 2 Maybelline cosmetics, 3 puffs plus, 1 dove deoderant, 1 dove shampoo, 1 crest toothpaste, 1 (6pk) dove soap, 3 excedrine migraine, 2 pks orbits gum and 1 tide laundry detergent.

Total Before Coupons and ECB's: $126.45
Total After Coupons and ECB's: $32.12
      Earned $10 more in ECB's

    • Thimblefull

Does anyone know where I can get a peanut butter coupon?

      • Your best bet is to check the coupon database on Southern Savers to see what all is available.

    • heidi

Well I still haven't figured this all out yet, only taken a few shopping trips with the coupons so far, and only at Publix and Walgreens so far. I haven't figured out how some of you have totals 200-300 and only spend a few dollars LOL But I'm trying. Yesterday at Publix, spent 32, saved 40. That was good enough for me. And I agree with the post about extremes. I make sure I only clip what I need or know we will use because as the only working parent, the budget is tight. Let me tell ya, couponing is a chore sometimes after a 40 hour work week LOL Some Sundays when I have to work I miss the papers and thats a bummer, but I did manage to snag two today with all the great P&G coupons. Thanks so much for this site! I could never do this without it cause my waking and non-working hours are so few! I really appreciate all the work that goes into saving all of us money!!!

    • Senoia MOM

I spent 21.09 at Publix and I got:
      2 bags of Doritos,
      6 cans of Grands Biscuits
1 PKG of hot mamas garlic knot rolls
      1 pkg mueller's spaghetti
1 PKG Publix creme cookies (thursday .01 special)
      6 pkgs Idahoan instant potatoes
      3 cans hunts diced tomatoes
11 cans of green giant green beans
6 cans of green giant corn

I do not have a site, so there is no way for me to send the photo.

The canned veggies were buy 1 get one free. (65 cents ea) $13.60 total
      I had a Publix coupon for $5.00 off of 20 hunts/green giant items -5.00
      and 2 $1.00 off store coupons (hunts&GGiant) -2.00
      .45 of 3 Hunts tomatoes coupon (doubles) – .90
Total for the 20 cans 5.70 (or .29 cents EACH!)
I forgot the biscuits were on sale, so I had to rely on the peelies,
.30/3. I love the hot mamma's rolls , which are on sale, but no coupon, but who can resist?…NOT ME. yum! I LOVE PUBLIX!

Thanks SOOOO much, Jenny! I also work 40 hrs, and commute 1 1/2 hrs each way, and this site makes it possible for me to coupon, without taking so much time from my family!

      • Senoia Mom

Oh, and these were all things I needed to buy, too. I was out of canned veggies from making soup & chili so often when the weather was yucky last month, and was to the point I would have to pay full price this week.
I did make other trips, and saved a TON, bot this is the deal I liked besy

    • Gardengrrl

CVS awesome deal of the week….actually made $17+ on this transaction (when you take into account a $25 gift card I got free last year for a prescription).

      Here's what I got:
      (1) Tide
      (4) Dawn
      (2) Oral B Cross Action Toothbrush
      (2) Oral B Satin Floss
      (1) Crest Pro-Health Toothpaste
      (1) Crest Pro-Health Rinse
      (2) Bounty Basic Paper Towels, 8 pack
      (2) Puffs
      (1) Pantene 2-in-1 Shampoo/Conditioner
      (1) Pantene Shampoo
      (1) Pantene Conditioner

3 separate transactions. I used a $25 CVS gift card, which I got free last year with a new prescription to pay, and I had to add .80 to finish my transactions. I had a bunch of manufacturer coupons (many from the P&G home mailer and inserts), a $5 off $25 CVS coupon that printed when I scanned my CVS card in the store, $1 Extra Buck from my CVS Green Bag Tag, and I used the the Extra Bucks that printed off from each transaction in the next transaction. I now have $18 in Extra Bucks to spend in the coming weeks and another $5 off $25 coupon, too.

    • Shawna

I'm confused…How are you getting so many trash bags? How do you get so many coupons? I print them and get them out of the Sunday paper and thats it? I can only print two max usually so I don't know how you are getting so much?
