I went to Publix and Kroger tonight. 75% savings at Publix, 74% at Kroger.

    • Though this may not be the place to post this, I thought I would share how some people make it hard for others. I went to Publix tonite, and there was a lady there w/ Q’s. She had several Q’s that gave her great overage. After all the Q’s her overage was $35. She wanted the manager to give her the $35. When he refuse, she asked if she could purchase several packs of beer. I don’t know what her intentions were, but it was clear she was expecting the overage. To me Q’s are a priviledge, and that was rediculous of her to even try to do something like that. That in turned embarrassed me because whan I got to the register, the cashier checked all my q’s w/ the products. She even counted the number of q’s I had. Well I just wanted to vent, have a nice day everyone!

    • Tammy

This is my biggest savings yet…the cashier actually asked me to teach her how to do it and we had to call over someone to override the coupons because I reached the $50 coupon mark! I spent $83.70…but saved $162.95!!!!! My husband was amazed…I think I won him over to the couponing with this trip!

    • Jan

I clicked on the first link for the Friday Finals and it was to dog breeders!?!?! Is this allowed? lol

    • Becky

I agree with you, Leonard’s. That would be Coupon Abuse, if such a thing exists. I work hard at making sure I am following the rules, but getting the best deals. It’s people like that that ruin it for the rest of us!! On a happier note, I spent $43 for $229 worth of groceries. My personal best on Publix so far. (Thanks Jenny for what you do!) PS- My husband and I got to watch Star Trek with our free movies and just got 2 more tickets today. YAY.

    • Jim

Thanks so much. I am glad to have found a place that has the Bi-Lo deals. We are new to couponing but between Harris Teeter and Bi-Lo tonight we got $180 worth of groceries for under $40. I am very excited.

    • Katherine

I absolutely agree with the Leonards. The point of using coupons is to purchase necessary items to get the best possible deals. Not to get free cash!!! How in the world did she manage to have a negative balance of $35?!?!? If I have overage, its usually a few cents here and there!!!

    • Amy

My totals for the week were going to three different stores total spent $5.37 total saved $122.01. That’s the best week I’ve had since I started couponing.

    • Alicia

I too hit a personal best this week. $20.77 for $221.51! I did two separate transactions so that I could avoid the register beeping and managed to have my favorite (super friendly!) cashier there as well. I had received a Target coupon book in the mail last week with a $5 off $50 plus other coupons, and would have simply given it to my sister as I usually do since she’s at Target all the time. But, thanks to Jenny and those that post, I got approval from my Publix manager to use them. There were several terrific match-ups. We’ll be feasting on top quality steak this week, and the kids are thrilled that I brought home ice cream. Thanks Southern Savers!

    • Courtney

I haven’t gotten up as high as some others get but I did go to Food Lion last night and spent 78.55 for $140 of products. That was my personal best so far. The cashier was super nice. They had a deal at my Food Lion to buy an oral B toothbrush and get free Crest toothpaste and she ended up just giving them both to me free b/c she couldn’t even figure out the sign that was up. It never hurts to try. I love this website and thank you Jenny for all your work!

    • Marie

I had a GREAT week. Thank you, Jenny. I spent 49.04 at publix and saved 159.26!!!! At Bi-Lo I spent 42.07 and saved 76.06. Yeah! After getting the Hefty plates and cups I won’t have to wash dishes for this weekend’s cookout!

    • Marie

Alicia — you are amazing!! Great job. I’m in awe!!

    • seacoastmom

I love the feeling of buying the things my family uses and getting a deal! I routinely save 50-60 % at Publix and hardly EVER shop at the Super W-M anymore (Which saves me $$ because I don’t wander around finding things for the house that I really just don’t need).Just 2 mornings ago my husband handed me a $5/25 coupon for Walgreens and asked if I needed to get anything there. OMG! He must have printed it out at work or here at home which means thet HE is surfing the ‘net for coupons. I believe that I have won him over and that he now actually looks forward to hearing my deals. Can’t wait to show him my CVS deal this week. As an added bonus, my kids now ask “Mom, can we get some XYZ this week?” rather than complain we are out of something!!

    • Michelle

Thank you for all you do. Before the economy began to drop off the way it has,it was already hitting my family. Thanks to yours and a few others we are able to enjoy things that I would have never thought possible a year ago. Our incomes have not changed since then, just the way that we are able to shop. God bless you!

    • Alicia

Thanks Marie :) I’m blushing from my first official coupon compliment! Seacoastmom: I too have slowly dragged my husband into it. He never just drops by the store anymore. He always asks me about coupons and what he should buy. My kids also have accepted it as just the way we do things. My three year old has his own scissors and folder. He cuts pictures out of Sunday ads and collects his ‘coupons.’ Heaven forbid the cashier ask, “Do you have any coupons?” My kids say things like, “My mom always has coupons” or “My mom is the coupon queen!” I think I save money by staying out of Target as much as possible because I buy other things as well. I used to be a weekly Wal-Mart shopper, and now I’m in there about twice a month to get a few products that we like that only they carry and to match up a few coupon deals. I wonder how many of us have dumped them as our regular grocery?
By far, the best part has been teaching / helping my friends and family save tons of money on groceries, especially those that are struggling to make ends meet. I sincerely hope that Jenny feels the same type of satisfaction from helping so many others.

    • cindy sharp

I love this site!!! Thank you thank you thank you, from my entire family! I spent $22 this week at Publix and saved $211…Excellent since I have only been couponing for less than 3 weeks!! I am happily now a coupon addict!

    • Christen

I saved 73% on my groceries this week!! This has been a huge help to our family, I’ve gone from a $200 a week grocery/household budget to about $75. Thanks so much Jenny for all your hard work!

    • Stacey

Publix on Monday-Spent $18.05 saved $70.82, on Thursday spent $25.83 (with two items not on sale) and saved $90.69. Going to Bi-lo this afternoon. I love this website!!

    • Cyndy

Hello Everyone- I am new to using coupons and must admit, I think I could become addicted!!! A friend and I are working together comparing coupons/notes and then our success stories. I just started a week or so ago and Publux has become my new favorite store. I would never shop at Publix before because the seafood market always seemed to smell. My family has owned a major shrimp dock since 1945 and it never smells. However, I find I am able to “look past” the smell to get the deals. I went to Publix 2x this week – once I spent $18 & saved $28 and the second time I went I spent $17 & saved $30. I know these numbers are not huge but I will get there! One coupon at a time. Thanks for all you do…..

    • Jen

Looking for the Summer Is Here booklet with the Glad Wrap coupon. I’ve got quite a few of the Summer Savings booklets that have more coupons including the $1 off Vitamin Water ones that will make for free bottles. Anyone looking to trade? Please e-mail: amichaelis@juno.com Thanks!!

    • Lisa

I’m hooked on coupons!!! My husband has even joined in and I wanted to let everyone know how great Jenny and Southernsavers.com is for us. We are saving more that we could have ever imagined.

This week spent $34.74 and saved $182.12! Absolutely amazing!! Thanks again for all you do.

    • Sheila

Went to Bi-Lo Friday subtotal before savings $233.11 total savings $133.66 = $96.45 oop and got tons of fresh produce and meat for cookouts.

    • Stacey

      Bi-lo today spent $14.46 saved $49.20.

    • Dixie

Does anyone know where the glad cling wrap coupon is? Is there one, or are you just getting them because of the charcoal deal or something??

    • Mina

Dixie – The cling wrap Q is in one of the Publix booklets. I THINK that it’s in the current Yellow Advantage Buy flier. I’ve got gaping holes in mine; so, I’m not positive that’s the one they came from., ;-) but I’m certain that they are in a Publix flier.

    • Dixie

Thank you Mina. The coupon wasn’t actually in there, but I was able to find it by looking in the yellow advantage post on this site–it was in the 4/05 redplum in case anyone else was looking!

    • Mina

I’ve spent a lot at grocers the past couple of weeks. I don’t have all of my receipts in front of me for this week, but this is the bulk of them.
      Food Lion$18.5 spent $9 “saved” $9.5
      Kroger – $26 – spent $10 “saved” $16
      Kroger – $96 – spent $21, “saved” $74
      Publix – $62 – spent $19, “saved” $43
      Publix – $205 – spent $39, “saved” $166
      Publix – $92.5 -spent $28.5, “saved” $64
      Bi-Lo – $27.6 – spent $7.6, “saved” $20
      Bi-Lo – $37.3 – spent $0.83, “saved” $36.47
      Bi-Lo – $75 – spent $7.0 “saved” $68
      Bi-Lo – $61.1 – spent $2.7 “saved” $58.4
Plus a few other small trips that are missing.

Amounts listed as “spent” are pre-tax on any non-food items included. The reason I put saved in quotes is because savings are always based on the list prices of what are generally name brands, and create a very inaccurate picture of what I would have spent on the items that I would have purchased instead.

I made ZERO trips to drugstores. (Except to drop off an OYNO and milk token that I knew one of my fave cashiers could use.)

I did some major meat purchasing this week, thanks to the OYNOs for beef or chicken from Old El Paso purchases, pork for partially stocking up on charcoal, FL’s $1/5 for beef, and the Oscar Meyer hotdog q’s combined w/Kroger’s sale. Also purchased fresh veggies and fruit, which were partially offset by the Kraft $1 off produce, Nilla Wafer’s 55 cents off on bananas, and the use of single bananas as fillers to match the number of q’s at Publix.

It’s been just over 2 months since I’ve gone back to coupon shopping/deal matching following a hiatus of many years. My weekly expenditures have not decreased. If anything, I spend more out of my own pocket now. BUT my hubby’s OOP expenses have decreased drastically. Instead of having me hand him a full page bi-weekly list, I now only give him about 5 small things to pick up, half of which he forgets, anyway.

Although I am actually spending more from my pocket on a weekly basis, in exchange we have an abundance. After 2 months of this, there is nothing that I think we really “need” in any given week, except for milk and maybe bread. I do still have some things that I want to stock up on. For instance, I thought we had enough pasta to last several months, but the stock was quickly decimated once pasta salad season began. I’m still hoping to be able to get back to spending less than $100/wk avg. within the next couple of weeks. Wish me luck. :-)

    • Mina

Oops! Sorry, Dixie. I’m glad you found it! Publix was where I used mine. They’ve had such great q’s in their booklets lately, that I must be thinking that everything good comes from a Publix booklet. :-)

    • Mina

Okay, I calculated my total “savings” for the week to be ~78.5% with all of it going toward food and food related items. Good week! Actually, it was a GREAT week, especially considering that I bought enough meat for at least 3 weeks worth of dinner. I had forgotten that part of my Bi-Lo totals consisted of stocking up on salmon. Also, I ended the week with $26 worth of OYNOs, and a small stack of rainchecks. Happy dance time!

    • Suzanne

I’ve been looking for the summer is here booklet in Upstate, SC. Yesterday at the Publix in downtown Greenville they were having a cooking demonstration (not the Apron strings stand) and the lady giving out the pork samples gave me a coupon sheet called “Summer Grill’n” with 3 manufacturers Qs. $3 off Publix fresh pork wyb Kingsford charcoal 13.5lb or larger, and $1 off Glad foodstorage, and $1 off KC masterpiece marinade or bbq sauce.

    • I had a good week.

      Bilo:
      Spent $43, saved $63

      Publix: Spent $58, saved $136

I’m happy with it! Stocked up on pasta, Ragu, cereal, charcoal, cheese, and ice cream, plus a ton of other things!

    • I had my best week ever at Publix. Spent $35.39 and saved $94.59! Got several items free. Thanks Jenny! I couldn’t do it without this wonderful web site.

I shopped at the Maryland Farms Publix in the Nashville area had a great experience as usual.

    • Chantelle

For last week I shopped Publix, CVS, Target, Aldi, WalGreen’s and a 2nd Target trip.

In total I spent $121.97 with $136.29 saved (dont’ know how to count what I saved at Aldi’s. My goal is to get my grocery budget to $100 per week. We buy lots of fresh fruits and I don’t want to stop doing that. I also get a good bit of meat at Sam’s and we do angelfood (www.angelfoodministries.com) This month I’ve been stockpiling and hoping that starting in June I can achieve my goal!

    • Amanda

I shopped at Publix with my husband on Monday (he was off for the holiday) and he couldn’t believe his eyes when the total started coming down. Our cart was full to the brim. Our total before coupons was $98.54 and we checked out for $6.39. They called a manager over because the cashier said the “screen locked up”. I thought my husband was embarrased but he started laughing when we were loading the groceries in the car. He thanked me for all my hard work putting the coupons together.

    • I had another week of $0 out of pocket for over $400 worth of groceries. You can check it out on my blog following the link below! Many thanks to Jenny and her list of deals!
