This has been a fun week for us.  The biggest savings part of our week was getting to see country life start to bless us with food.  We got 12 little chicks a few months ago, and as they grew it became apparent that a few of them weren’t known for their laying but instead for their growing!  We had three that country folks would call broilers.  So this week we decided to finally eat one.

It took some serious mental prep for us city folks to do it.  In the end though to have a free range organic chicken that cost almost nothing was pretty awesome.  Two of our other broilers didn’t make it to be full grown, so now we have 9 layers left (though we think one is rooster).  We have no plans to eat our layers and are still in discussions on whether we will get anymore intended for eating.

This chicken was huge!  After being cleaned and prepped she weighed over 9 lbs!  At a normal price of $6-$8 for this type of chicken that would make it cost $54-$72 if we had purchased it.  Figuring out the cost to raise it ourselves, it probably cost around $5 (and some time & patience).

We did do some shopping this week too.  I went back to my new favorite Bi-Lo, the one that doesn’t even know how to scan coupons…

Bi-Lo:
Total before sales and coupons: $65.71
Total Spent: $24.86
Total Saved: $40.85 or 62% off

I also earned 30¢ off a gallon with fuelperks.

If any of you went to Bi-Lo this week you’ll notice that their ad was off on a few big prices.  I wasn’t able to get them to honor the price (didn’t expect them to really).  There are so many other deals this week especially once you throw in the gas savings that it was still a very worthwhile trip.  I also used a few rain checks from previous weeks.
