Happy almost October!

This was my week off from shopping.  I was actually really torn wanting to get all the deals at CVS, but we really really don’t need any more personal care things so instead of shopping I just ran in and got rain checks later in the week.  In case you didn’t know CVS rain checks never expire and will print the extrabucks that should have printed today whenever you do purchase the product.

Did you have a big shopping week?  Leave a comment or a link to your savings post.

Hmmm…never thought about getting rain checks for things I just don’t need that week (or don’t have coupons for).  I assume you can only get rain checks for items that are out of stock?

      • Usually you can only get rainchecks for items out of stock, yes.  Just a tip, if you know what day your store gets a shipment, go the day before or the morning of the shipment day if you want to get a raincheck.  For example, my CVS gets a shipment Wednesday afternoon, so if I shop Tues evening or Wed morning, they’ll usually be out of stock of a lot of sale items at that time and I can get rainchecks.  Hope this helps!

A whole new wrinkle to figure out…just when I was starting to get the hang of it!

        • Heidi32604

absolutely great idea about finding out what days shipments come in.  i love rainchecks!

Question if anyone knows??? If I got a raincheck for, say, 10 soft scrubs that were on sale and my store didn’t have, and I go to another store and they have the product, and I bought them there, can I still use the raincheck at the store I got the rain check at, or would they be able to tell that I made the deal elsewhere?

        • If you’re talking about CVS, they can tell by you scanning your Extra Care card if they have to type in the ECB sale code at the register.  To my knowledge, if it’s just a regular sale with no ECBs back, then they wouldn’t know that you got the items at the sale price elsewhere.

          • Wethedeans

You were right , I was talking about CVS. Good mental telepathy!

        • Snowdogmom

I know Walgreens doesn’t track it as I’ve gotten rain checks when one location was out of stock and happened to go by another location and they had the product. I purchased it and was still able to use the rain check at a later time. Walgreens writes their rain checks for the price after the rewards. This week they had Colgate Optic white Toothpaste 2/$798 with $6 reward bucks. They were out and they wrote me a raincheck for 2/$198. I have 2 $1 off coupons so when they get in the stock it will be free. It’s actually better to get a raincheck then you don’t have to worry about using your reward $ before they expire. Likewise at Harris Teeter if I go and they are out of stock I get a raincheck, they do limit the amount of items you can get with a raincheck. If I find it in stock at another store and buy it I can still use the raincheck, providing it’s not an e-vic special where they normally limit you to two. They do track e-vic special limits. I can use the raincheck at any location not only the one that wrote it. This worked out great for me recently. I had rain checks from past sales. When Harris Teeter offered tripled coupons I was able to get items not currently on sale at the sale price plus get triple coupon value on the item. Harris Teeter rain checks never expire, at least that is the current policy.

I went to walmart and bought a Brita pitcher on sale 8.98, 4 of the schick 12 pack razors on sale for 1.99, a schick quattro razor on sale for 5.59, and 10 crave cat treats. Had coupons for all, paid 2.10 and will get back 10.00 on the Brita rebate. Also went to CVS and got the B2G1F Hershey candy bars. Had the B1G1F coupons for Hershey air. Put 3 air Hershey’s and 3 reg Hershey’s down with 3 coupons and paid 1.14 for all. That was so cool I did it 3 more times. 24 Hershey bars for less than 5 bucks. Happy halloween!

      • RachelS

Why do you need 24 candy bars? That doesnt seem healthy at all to me.

        • Heidi32604

um, halloween candy for trick or treaters?

    • Heidi32604

today at publix: 47 boxes of cereal for $7.80! (lucky charms, honey nut cheerios, total, fiber one, and oatmeal crisp)

    • Shelli

Wow, I had no idea that you could get ECBs when you purchase an item on a raincheck. None of the stores in my area have the free excederin. I’ve been to 5 stores so far. It makes me mad that they can advertise a special & not have that product available.

      • Snowdogmom

I was not aware of ECB’s on a raincheck at CVS either. Thanks Jenny for that info.

      • The CVS stores in my area are keeping the 8ct bottles of excedrin that are on sale behind the counter because people were stealing them! ask up front before you get too frustrated!

      • Manda29

Try Dollar General, they have an 8 cout bottle for $1 and use the .75 off it’s not free, but .25 is not bad

Can someone explain a ‘rain check’ to me… what it is and how it works?

      • A raincheck is basically a slip of paper guaranteeing that you can get the item you were looking for at the sale price once it is back in stock.  Some stores have rainchecks that expire in a month, others never expire.  You can go back anytime before the raincheck expires to get the items you wanted at the sale price.  Hope this helps!

      • a Rain Check is a Guarantee to get the “sale Price” on a product when that product is in stock again. For instance, there was that AWESOME Airwick MM about 3 weeks ago at CVS (get 4 of the ultra airwick fresheners at $4.99 a piece, use 4 $4.00 coupons, and get $10 ECB’s because I spent $20.00. Well needless to say as it was a $6 MM, they were out instantly. I got a Rain Check and was able to cash in on the deal just this week when they finally had the products back on the shelves again! Does this help?

    • Padawanlearner

I got to use a raincheck today for the slip-on diapers at CVS from last week’s special, and got three packs for less than $2 total (including the $10 extra bucks)!  Made my day!!!  Plus I did the candy bar deal, too, and might get a few more tomorrow.  13 candy bars for about .27 each. : )

    • Amanda

I had an AWSOME shoppiong trip at publix. I spent $20.76 saved $104.35. Our Publix in South GA will now take more than one competitor coupon for $ off a $25 purchase on each order. Our Publix does not double coupons, so probably not as good as it could have been. But I was Super Excited and so was my husband.

    • I had LOTS of fun at CVS, with the CREST Deal ($2 OOP for 2 Scope Dual Blasts + 4 Credt Completes 5.8oz paste!) The razor, excedrin, the thermacare, MILK! ( LOVE it when theres ECB’s on MILK!). Had WAY TOO MUCH FUN at Walgreens on EVERYTHING. I am new enough to couponing to not have much of a stock on anything like RAZORS. And those Balance bars, the cookie dough ones, are AWESOME! Almost every time I bought a set of the W Pads I got a $.50 Q, ended up donating 4 bags of those to a food pantry! (by the way, I went to 3 different Walgreens on 3 different days so as to not clear any shelves!) and the crowning achievement was PUBLIX – 2 trips, one on Tuesday, on this evening, netted me $200 worth of groceries for $50.00. NOT BAD! – also donated 10 boxes of cereal (had a RAIN Check for the $2.99 BIG box of Cinnamon Toast Crunch) they finally had 10 boxes this week just in time! I LOVE couponing!

    • G_gibson00

Today I got  8 boxes of Planters snack bars, 2 boxes of snackwells bars, 2 choc. chip cookie mixes, 10 cans of select harvest soups, 4 boxes of toaster strudels, 4 2-packs of yoplait granola yogurt, 4 bottles of dawn dish soap, 8 boxes of fiber one cereals, and 4 boxes of Total cereal. Before my coupons it was $144.08 after all the coupons I paid $33.59 : ) Great sale at Publix!!!!!

    • Keriberri

I love love love CVS.  I am just having a problem figuring out the ECB bucks.  I understand what they are and how they work, but my problem is how to separate the transactions.  I ended up saving 57%, but I know I can do better.  How do you calculate what to purchase in the first one or two transactions in order to save on the next transaction or so?  I spent like $40 in order to get my ECB for the next transaction.  I feel like I could have done it a lot cheaper somehow.  I think I just panic at the register no matter how organized I try to be when I get there!  Any tips for me?

      • coupons4kids

I think it is overwhelming if you try to organize it while in the store. My sister was having issues with this and I sat down with her and showed her what I do.  I will sit down before I go out and look at everything I want to get and make a list.  I will write everything out, what I am getting, what coupons to use and was RR or ECB I will be getting back. If I have 3 transactions I will have all 3 transactions worth of coupons in seperate paper clips. Right before I check out then I will organize everything in the cart to how I am purchasing them.  Hope that helps!

Just wanted to thank you for getting this up tonight. Now that school is back in session and I am teaching, parenting, and going to school myself I have had to wait until Saturday nights to go shopping. I love being able to see what every one got and then going to find the sales. I have been blessed and normally am able to receive all that I want because by the time I go the new truck has come in. Thanks again

      Hi Jenny,

Is there anyway it could be turned to thursday finals. This help me to see what match ups I missed and still get them on friday while my 3 boys are still in school

      • Guest1

        Really?!

    • Switchfan

I just found out that CVS rainchecks get future ECB’s, that’s awesome!  But, the manager who wrote me one did tell me that they get “dinged” for every raincheck they write.  I don’t know if that’s corporate, or just whoever owned the store he worked in, but just so you guys know…. let’s not go crazy on them.

    • Sarah

I have to brag – shopping trip at Publix: I spent $25.79, and saved $79.35 with coupons and sales!  That would not have been possible without the coupon matchups and printable list – thank you, Jenny!
