This week I began the process of restocking my poor depleted pantry after a few weeks of not shopping very much.  We went to Publix and did pretty good with a 61% savings.  The trip included a lot of produce, milk, and some meat so walking out with everything we needed and still saving over half is great.

Total everything in the buggy above should have cost over $230.  Shopping sales and using coupons brought that down to a total of $91.34.  Still a bit more than I like to spend in the store, but it wasn’t a normal week.  We really did need a ton, plus we have my husbands entire family coming in this weekend…  I love entertaining so I have no complaints when the budget gets blown a tad if it’s for having folks over.  I’m actually planning on asking my husband for a separate hospitality budget, I don’t want to feel like I’ve done something wrong in opening up our house.  If any of you do that, I would love to know what you budget for it??

Two things to note from my picture above and this trip:

1.  I grabbed 4 cans of Cocina Latina beans that are free this week at Publix after the coupons.  During checkout the cashier noticed that the coupon states in fine print “limit one coupon per customer per day”.  In this moment you have to decide whether you still want them or not.  For me this was something I would normally never purchase, so we didn’t grab the other 3 cans.

2.  The Wrapping Paper – folks always ask me about how to save on wrapping paper.  Christmas paper is easy, just buy it afterwards on clearance, but other types can be tricky.  My go-to lately is looking for the Hallmark BOGO coupon that Publix puts out at least once a month.  Get any Hallmark items buy one get one, including wrapping paper.  We have a birthday and a baby shower this weekend, so that handled both types of paper I need with an easy 50% off.

Publix Totals:

Total purchase value: $232.20
Total Spent: $91.34
Total Saved: $140.86 or 61%
