We ended May with another week of no shopping.  That was the goal, and also was a good thing.  This week has been long and the lack of sleep really starts to hit you after three weeks…  not that I’m complaining cause it’s a joy really.

In case you are curious how we went an entire month with no large grocery trip, here’s how:

  1.   We had over 12 meals provided by church members and friends.  Many were larger than we needed to they worked for 2-3 meals.
  2.   I had already stocked up on chicken, ground beef and steak with bulk purchases from Zayconfoods.com and our local Chef Foods Store (my favorite store).
  3.   In April we stocked up on frozen vegetables and other easy sides.
  4.   We also put up 26 freezer meals in early April and saved them for May.  We still probably have half left.

I plan on jumping back in head first next week, and have been getting all the coupons throughout the month so things won’t be too hard to pick back up.  Taking an entire month off though was sanity for my soul and a nice way to save almost $300 (based on our normal grocery budget).  That helps nicely with hospital co-pays.

Off topic a bit, this week Mary got her casts off!  We also got the green light to let her start to stand on her good leg again.  She is too weak to stand at all, but we are starting to work on that as much as she can tolerate each day. She has leg braces to wear now, but at least those can come off and she can take a bath!
