I know it’s not Friday.  I realized I never typed this earlier today when a 5 year old asked me what day it was.  Yeah… you know you’re a stay at home mom when you have to consult a phone or calendar to answer that question.

This week I didn’t go grocery shopping, just hit CVS.  My goal is to go weekly for the next month and break down for you how we bought it transaction by transaction whether in a post or a video.  This week since I’m already late lets just type it out rather than waiting longer for me to piece a video together.

For this first week at CVS I had no ExtraCare Bucks.  I haven’t been in ages, and still don’t really need to go except for diapers.  I ended up going to a new to me CVS that is right next to my unique Bi-Lo that has no clue about coupons.  This store is also as unique, they don’t advertise sales and ExtraCare Buck deals because no one does them.  Sad day…  so on Wednesday night I walked in as if it were Sunday and got every deal exactly as I planned.  The only hitch for me, was that with no sale tags I had to completely trust my shopping list and the trip took a little longer to find items.

Here’s what I bought by transaction.

Total Due: 53¢
Got Back: $8 ECB

Total before sales and coupons: $114.92
Total spent after tax: $31.27
ECB Remaining: $12 ($8, $2, $2)

Even without the ECB back that is still a 73% savings on things that we will use.  I personally loved the diaper deal and could have cried when the $4 off coupon printed for me.

I have $12 towards the deals we grab next week, which is also awesome!  It should mean we pay next to nothing next week!

    • I also did the diapers deal plus Crest and Colgate. Lately, I just grab eggs and milk as well to use my ECBs instead of paying cash elsewhere. Here’s a link to my detailed transaction. Thanks for all you do, Jenny.

I bought Crest mouth wash but didn’t get the $4 rewards, can I go back to ask them for it?

      • Guest

One time I bought a nail polish, but did not realize that I did not get my ECB. I called the number on my card and spoke with their main office and they credited me my ECB. I went to the store and it printed out on the red/coupon machine.

I had a really great coupon week–I spent $71.05 oop (under budget), but with extraBuck accrual, I actually only spent $43.45, for $354.99 worth of groceries, diapers, etc. between Weis, Giant, and CVS. I ended up going to either the grocery store or CVS 6 out of the 7 days last week, so this week, I’m hoping to just spend away my obscene about of ECBs ($55+) and stay home a little more ;)

    • R

I just can’t bring myself to shop at CVS because the prices are so inflated . Not sure I could find deals week after week to use the ecbs

      • Gianna Werner

Chex cereal is like .99 a box this week after coupons for starters! Especially lately, I have found that their sale items are on par with, if not better than grocery stores, and even big stores like Wal-Mart. The only issue I have is that the sales you see on a lot of couponing websites may not reflect the pricing in your region.

      • Amie

The great thing about ECBs is that they don’t expire the next week… you have longer to use them. I have a pretty good HAB stockpile so for the past few mos, I’d only shopped diaper deals & money makers and rolled ECBs. They have plenty of great deals though. If you know you are going to take a break, you could always spend ECBs on paper products or beverages. They regularly have good deals on these items. As Gianna mentions, there are often good grocery deals, too.

3 packs Huggies, 1 Huggies Wipes, 2 Jergens Lotions, 1 Maxwell House Morning Blend Coffee, 5 vitamin waters for $25 – first trip couponing at CVS only paid for diapers/wipes and used coupons for those but then everything else was with Extra Care Bucks and coupons essentially free and things we needed. Excited because I know that I will get better at combinging deals and multiple transactions over time, very cool, thanks Jenny for all the info/advice – especially the videos :)

I’ve only been couponing for about 3-4 weeks and was inspired after watching your videos. Never imagined I’d get into the drugstores (CVS, RiteAid) for lots of reasons until you convinced me it might be fun to try out. Yesterday was only my 2nd trip to CVS… I only wanted to score on the freebies: Gillette Venus razor and Crest ProHealth mouthwash. Got the razor for $7.89 + $5 coupon + $4ECB = $1.11 profit! My very first freebie and profit! They didn’t have any of the mouthwash left, so I also got my first raincheck for future use of sale price ($4.99 + $1.10 coupon + $4ECB) which I cannot wait to use!

And I still have $9ECB to use for next week.

Thank you for your super clear and awesome youtube videos! And you were absolutely right about CVS employees… the guy at my store is the nicest ever!

      • I’m so glad to hear that! Keep up the good work.

I was insanely happy about the diaper deal. I had $15 ECB, $4 CVS diaper coupon, plus the $3 off diapers and $2 off pull-ups. I ended up getting two packs of diapers, one pack of pull-ups and one thing of wipes and paid $0.72. Plus I got $12 ECB back. After taking a break from coupons that was just what I needed to get back in the swing of things!

    • Krystal

Is there a new Kroger ad out yet? Im use to seeing it posted on Saturdays and for whatever reason, I still see the old one. Thanks in advance.

    • Kim

I had a $10 off $50 purchase so I did one big transaction:

      2 bottles of coppertone

      1 Aussie Shampoo

      1 Aussie Conditioner

      2 tubes of Colgate toothpaste

      2 bottles of Colgate mouthwash

      2 Colgate toothbrushes

      1 tube of neosporin

      2 boxes of band aids

      first aid case

      1 Gillette Venus Razor

Ear plugs (DD needed them bc of an earache)

      Used:
      $10 off $50
$3 off $15 mouthwash or toothpaste purchase
      $27 ECB
      Paid OOP: $17.62
      Got back: $26 ECB

There were so many good deals this week. I did the great CVS diaper deals, Walgreen’s Friends & Family Event, and some Kroger deals. Yesterday, I realized I was completely out of sun screen. I only had access to the printable $1 off Coppertone coupons. I also knew I wanted to pick up Veet Wax Strips, Clairol Hair Color, 4 newspapers, and Woolite and was willing to use my ECBs to save cash oop since I have a points earned gc on the way. My husband and I were each emailed 25% off coupons so I decided to see what I could get. I knew my cash oop was going to be $7+ with the sunscreen alone. Husband’s Card: 1st Transaction: 2 Coppertone – paid $7 and change & $12 ECBs, 2x$1 Coppertone, and received $8 ECBs. 2nd Transaction 2: Veet Strips, 1 Puffs, 4 papers, mouthwash – used 25% off, $8 ECBs, $2 Veet, $1 off Puffs, and the mouth wash coupon was marked down to 70 cents because my total went to $0. I paid less than $1 tax and ended with $4 ECBs. My Card: Clairol Natural Instincts, 2 Crest Whitening toothpaste, and Woolite. I used a $2.50 off Clairol coupon that was in front of the product, $1 off Woolite, $12 ECBS, and a 25% off coupon. I didn’t have the toothpaste coupons with me. I paid $2 and change and got $6 ECBs back. So in the end, by using coupons and ECBs, I only had to spend $3 more cash. I was really happy with that.

i love coupons. I live in Arizona & I know Kroger is the same as Fry’s but do not know the rest. Publix I think its Albertson’s. Do you know if I have the rest under different names.

      • Guest

I do not think Albertsons is Publix – we had both in florida when we lived there. Albertsons there turned into a Rowes supermarket.. I can almost be 100% that Publix has always been Publix – at least where I have live/live now.

        • denisse

          Thanks. : ) I wish I had one ..
