take time to relax

Thanksgiving is next week which means lots of turkey, family time, and shopping. This doesn’t usually equal very much quality time with your spouse though, so we are taking a day off for Frugal Date Friday.

Pick one day during the weekend or an evening during the week (depending on work schedules) to do nothing. You can’t worry about the dishes or laundry or go grocery shopping. You just should use this time to focus on each other. Go see a movie, play a game, read books, or put together a puzzle. Even better: have a spa day at home.

If you have kids, try to find a sitter or trade off babysitting with another family for a couple of hours. One thing that works well for us is an extra long nap time on Sunday afternoon. Even if the kids aren’t sleeping, they have to stay in their rooms. They can read books if they aren’t tired.

With really little ones, this is more of a challenge. No one with a two year old can just do nothing for a whole day. So maybe for you this looks like just hanging out with your husband after you put the baby to bed. The next day may be a little crazy at first if there are dishes, but it’s okay. Give yourself a break and allow yourself to just stop and enjoy your awesome husband. Every other aspect of your life will benefit from it.
