Most people have goals to save money and lose weight.  One of the common myths is that products with coupons are all unhealthy.  Each week, this list will provide you with some tasty, good-for-you frugal meal and snack ideas based on sales at the grocery store.

I am posting the Weight Watchers points below items, if you aren’t doing weight watchers then just know these are very healthy choices.

Use a Pizza cutter to cut each deli flat into 8 triangles. Warm under the broiler for 3-4 minutes and serve with the Hummus.

      This is great, thanks! I have been doing Weight Watchers for 5 months now and my couponing has really slowed down because I feel like so many of the coupons out there are for junk food. So any guidance you can provide with this is super helpful!

      Don't forget to investigate alternative sources for fresh fruits and veggies. Asian and Hispanic markets are usually much cheaper than Kroger and Publix for some produce and that is usually without coupons.

      Examples near us are Assi, Super H Mart, and Aldi (German, I think).

        I'll second that! I live in southern California, with lots of ethnic groceries. I hit the Latino markets for my meat and produce, and the Asian market for different varieties of rice and I save a ton! I rarely pay more than .49 cents a pound for fruits, or .79 to .99 a pound for veggies. Also, for anyone who has 99 Cent Stores in their area, you can get some killer deals on veggies there.

        Assi and Super H are both awesome. It is well worth it to me to make the 45 min drive every few weeks to stock up on fresh (and I mean FRESH) fruits and veggies. Even factoring in the gas and the fact that the do not take coupons it is still the best way to go. If you have kids they will love it because it is fun for them to see all the unusual fruits, veggies and fish.

      Thank you for this. I don't do WW but I've been on a low glycemic diet since Jan. 1 and have lost 4 pounds so far. Grapefruit, eggs, and salad are a big part of my diet! I got the Vocal Point home mailer with the $3 off Kashi Go Lean Crunch (which made it free at HT this week) and the cereal tastes great and is healthy.

      One of my favorite recipes is for Garlic Lime Chicken, which comes from the Saving Dinner cookbook endorsed by FlyLady ( I think you can get this recipe free on her site as well as a bunch of other ones).

      CHOCOLATE MARSHMELLOW BARK (4 POINTS) 12 SERVINGS
      8 oz bittersweet chocolate, finest quality recommended
      2 tsp regular butter
      3 cup(s) Kraft Jet-Puffed Mini Marshmallows, or other brand

      Instructions
      Line a 9- X 9-inch pan with heavy-duty aluminum foil.
      In a double boiler, melt chocolate and butter over medium heat, stirring occasionally, until thoroughly combined; remove from heat and stir in marshmallows.

      Scrape chocolate mixture into prepared pan using a silicon spatula; smooth into a somewhat even layer. Refrigerate until chocolate sets, at least 1 hour; keep refrigerated until ready to eat. Cut into 12 pieces and serve. Yields 1 piece per serving.

      Jenny, I can't tell you how much you've changed my life, I don't know how you find the time to do what you do, but you are an angel. I have been a southern saver junkie for 1 year now and save consistently 50% or more. I buy mostly healthy so I feel this is an awesome savings. And I don't buy what I don't need or can't use. You are AWESOME to include receipes/menu's and points for Weight Watchers. I work at an elementary school and a large group of teachers and staff are going to doing this together so it is a huge help for you to show us all how to use what is on sale and use toward the diet as well.       I made the petite turkey meatloaf tonight. It turned out great. Very moist. I have the same pan listed and since there are 8 holes, I just doubled the recipe. The husband loves meatloaf sandwiches.
