Top 10 gifts for girls age 5-6.Sometimes I think girls are easier to shop for than boys, I may be biased though since I only have girls.  For girls 5-6 years old, they want things that make them feel like big kids but that are easy enough for them to play with without being frustrated.  You’ll also find that they are happy to play with anything, even pieces of trash become toys! Since we shouldn’t put trash under the tree for presents, here are some actual gifts you can give.

Top 10 Toys:

Furreal Friends

FurReal Friends Walking Ponies

Ages: 4+

FurReal Friends have been a coveted toy for a few years now, but as a parent they are crazy expensive.  Take my advice and go small.  Grab one of these ponies or one of the other snuggimals animals and you’ll save over 60% compared to the larger animals.  The smaller ones are easier for kids to tote around and play with anyway.

18 inch doll

18 inch Doll & Accessories

Ages: 5+

Some girls are into dolls as much as others, but in general almost every girl wants one.  Rather than spending way to much on certain brands, do a general search for “18 inch doll” online and you’ll find lots of great substitutes.  I’d rather pay $30 for a doll than hundreds!

Lego Friends

Lego Friends Pet Salon

Age: 5+

Lego launched a line a few years ago just for girls.  While they took heat for the idea, they were right.  Girls love it!  There is an entire community to collect and build.  Your girls will enjoy role playing once they build and if they are like my girls they will leave them together forever, set up as a little town.

cottage playhouse

Cardboard Playhouse

Age: 3+

While in essence you are giving them a box to play with… this one is a bit fancier than your average box.  They get to color and enjoy doors and windows without you having to cut out all those parts.  My girls were given one of these a few years ago and played with it daily until I finally put it away.  It was a play area and reading nook.

arts and crafts

Fusable Bead Crafts

Age: 5+

Remember these?  Old favorites are still favorites to this age group.  They don’t recognize it as ancient, just fun.  Let them work on being creative and entertained and you just work on sweeping up all the lost beads.

shrinky dinks

Shrinky Dinks Jewelry Kit

Age: 4+

While we are getting nostalgic, don’t forget this awesome craft.  Are you noticing a trend?  Old crafts are cheap!!  Since this age group isn’t all about the trends, save your money and just get them fun things that don’t cost a fortune.  I bet you end up making a few shrinky dinks too…

connectagons

Connectagons 240 piece set

Age: 4+

This is an award winning toy that lets kids build anything they can think of.  We were given a set when my older girls were 5 and it’s still a favorite toy years later.  All the pieces fit into a small box for storage.  This is another toy that parents will enjoy just as much as the kids!

floor puzzles

Melissa & Doug USA Floor Puzzle

Age: 5+

This takes puzzles to a whole new level.  A 5 year old may need help putting this together, but with practice they become experts at puzzles and at their states!  I love when play and school can collide without my girls even realizing it.

leapfrog reader

LeapFrog LeapReader Reading and Writing System

Ages: 4-8

This is a fun way to help your child learn to read and write with confidence by teaching reading comprehension, vocabulary and listening skills in a fun and interactive way!

a kick scooter

Razor A Kick Scooter

Age: 5+

I know this was in the Boys age 5-6 list too.  It really is a great gift for this age.  Don’t forget to get them a helmet too!

What is your favorite gift for this age?
