I have two girls in this age range, so while it may not make me an expert it at least gives me a better insight. This is a unique age, they are still sweet and eager to learn anything you put in front of them but… they are also starting to care more about trends and what other kids have. This is the first year that my girls have asked for specific gifts rather than something more broad. No matter what’s on their Christmas list, make sure to head through Ebates to grab your online deals. You get to grab the items they want and also get some of your cash back.
How cash back works:
Always check Ebates for cash back deals before you do any online shopping. To get your cash back, sign up for Ebates, click on the link I provided below, and search for the item on the website the link takes you to. After you make your purchase and use all of your coupon codes like usual, and the percentage of cash back will show up in your Ebates account. They will mail you a check after Christmas at the end of the year. It’s that easy!
Top Toys for Girls 7-9
Kids love the chance to take their own pictures, and now in the digital age you’ll love never having to develop horrible pictures just see what they took! Think of all the money our parents wasted on us… Go cheap with this camera. They are going to be tough on it! This is not an age to get anything fancy. This particular camera is refurbished and regularly is over $90 new.
This is the perfect age to start learning an instrument. Half sized guitars are built for smaller folks and the right place to start for a 5-9 year old. You probably need to look into lessons too… but you can have them start with free youtube videos.
Anything crafty is always a great choice! Pairing crafts with desserts… even better. This is a great kit to make edible art that will make for a fun afternoon project and treat.
Board games are a great choice for this age group. They are finally old enough to get waiting for their turn and they are super competitive. Just be ready, giving them a board game means they will want to play with you! This particular game is my girls favorite. It’s tricky to find (you won’t find it in a local store) but is awesome because while they love it, they are also learning about places all over the USA. They get states, capitols, landmarks, state parks and a lot more.
If you have someone that loves puzzles, this is an awesome gift. It will take them a chunk of time to figure out how to work the ball through the maze. We gave this to our girls last Christmas and it ended up being a toy for parents too as we all tried to master it.
This is THE craft item this year. The name brand version starts at $20 and goes up from there, this is one great example of when not go name brand!
This is another hot toy this year. Pair it with a new app and your kids can raise an entire furby city. The small creature develops it’s own personality based on how it’s treated and how your kids play with it. Personally I don’t know what to think about paying this much for a small little creature… but this is one where your kids might really want it because of it’s trendiness.
A break from the traditional board game, grab a game that requires some skill and logic to keep it going. It’s a fun game for an entire family to play and no matter how old you get it’s somewhat fun to watch things fall down.
Personalized Back Pack (Lands End)
If you didn’t get a new bag at the beginning of the year, getting one now is a great dual purpose gift. It’s something they need, and a fun way to give them something special. Remember safety wise it’s best to not put their name on a bag, but many say initials are fine.
This is the pricey item on the list, but it’s here for a reason. One of the top toys for this age range is the Innotab or other kids tablet device. Sadly though, those games are quickly outgrown by your kids. They also cost more than buying them a Kindle! If you are looking at a toy in this area, I encourage you to think about grabbing a real tablet device and getting a good case. In the long run you spent a little less money and got something they can use for more than a year or two.
