brotherprinterI already mentioned that both Staples and Office Max have the Brother HL-2240 Laser printer on sale this week for $59.99 (reg. $119). This is a simple black and white laser printer at a great price that also happens to be great for printing coupons!

Many of you emailed to ask why this is my favorite coupon printer. We’ve talked about it before, but for anyone looking to get a new printer, here’s why I love this one:

1.  Laser printers get a TON more prints between refills than an inkjet. (They use toner instead of liquid ink.)
2.  Prints are clearer, so your coupons scan better during checkout than with inkjets.
3.  Refills are about the same price as inkjets but print a thousand more pages!

Many of you have asked about a wireless version for the Brother printer and Amazon currently has it for 48% off at $77.99!

Why switch?
This printer comes with a toner cartridge that can print 500-700 sheets.  After you use that toner, you can find high yield refills on a number of sites for $20 or less.  The high yield cartridge can print 1500 sheets! Most inkjet printers can get around 170 pages per cartridge, so this is a huge savings!

The one thing negative about this printer is that since it’s black and white, it’s great for printing coupons, but not so practical for school projects and photos…. then again, maybe that’s not such a bad thing!

I know many of you also own this printer, so I’d love for you to share your experience for others that are looking for a better way to print coupons.

Thought I let you know that you can get a wireless one for 77.99 at newegg.com Model # hl2270dw. I ordered me one through bestbuy and they priced matched newegg.coms price. Will have to call to place the order and free shipping too. hope this helps you out. Sale ends this weekend.

Any good toner deals around right now? Bought mine last xmas n it was the best (small investment) more than paid for it’s self. After the toner that came with it was used the high yeild i bought lasted forever! I dont think ive gone through 2 in a year! Wayyyyy worth it! Great printer. Just now need a new cartridge soon. Thanks!

    • Pam

I have been looking for a new printer so I just ordered this one. Can you give us some of the sites to order the toner?

    • Karina

I bought this printer last year. I caught it for only $50. But that is beside the point. I have been thrilled with my printer. It is quick and efficient, more so than the ink printer I had, which was supposedly the best and cheapest ink (refills) for the money. I bought one refill from Staples and thought, at the time, I was crazy for switching. The high yield refill was almost as much as I paid for the printer.
The next time the light started blinking at me, I found a deal for under $30 for two high yield cartridges. I could not be happier. I know I’ve been using this same cartridge for well over 2 months, if not 3 or 4. The only catch is you have to find the reset bypass for the toner warning. But, that is no problem. A quick search on youtube and you’re set to go. My only warning is … When the toner light starts blinking, do not do any large print jobs, such as print several pages of coupons. Once the toner light stays on, you have to reset your printer and that means you lose all outstanding print jobs. So, the easy fix is the do the reset once the toner light starts blinking.

When our toner light goes on we take it out and shake it a few times and then put back in the printer. We might even do this a second time. We go for probably 6 weeks with the light on for the toner before replacing. We love the printer.

    • I just ordered it thank you jenny!

    • Melanie

For those of you that have this printer do you purchase Borther Toner or do you use aftermarket ones? I just purchased this printer last month and loving it, but I want to purchase Toner ahead of time that way I will have it when I run out.
Thanks for the hint about shaking/resetting the toner, I would have not thought of that.
For color/copying I sitll have my old Ink jet printer.

    • Peggy

This is exactly what I need and at a great price too. Thank you so much. I will be getting mine today.

      • Peggy

Picked it up at Staples tonight… thank you for telling me about it.

    • I bought this printer on Black Friday 2010. I have replaced the toner 3 or 4 times, but I do a ton of printing with it, not just coupons. You can get the compatible cartridges on Amazon really cheap any time. And, like Jenny said, the coupons scan so much better. I have a Kodak for printing in color.

    • snowdogmom

Wait for a sale on the HL-2270DW it’s the wireless version. You can usually get it on sale for $69 or $79. I’ve had mine for 2 years and love it. Wireless setup is easy.

      • Mandy

Just saw a post on FB that the wireless version is on sale on Amazon for $79.99.

        • jess

Thanks Mandy for info, ordering me one from Amazon

    • Hsmom24boys

I would love to know the site where you get high yield toner for $20! It’s close to $70 here,

      • Try Amazon or Meritline(dot)com. I’m sure Jenny is referring to the compatible cartridge, not the Brother original.

        • lori

why can you get the compatible cartridge from and how do I tell if it’s compatible with my brother printer

          • On Amazon or Meritline(dot)com. Just search for toner for your printer model.

Can someone suggest a wireless laser. Thanks for this post. I answered a lot of my questions.

    • I need a really good wireless printer, any suggestions? Not too expensive and good on ink thanks!

Brother HL-2280DW on sale at Office Max, Staples, and Best Buy. Just bought mine on Sunday.

      • S

For everyone looking for a wireless but not needing scanning, it’s the 2270DW and it’s on Newegg.com for $78 with free shipping and usually no sales tax: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16828113545

I need a new printer but I’m worried about the black and white. I went to Winn Dixie to use my coupons that I printed in b/w, only to be told that they won’t accept them as they may be copies. A lady had tried this so I guess they decided to change. Luckily the manager knows me and took it. I thought copies wouldn’t scan, but this lady must have been able to use hers or they would not be changing. Has anyone else encountered this? Like I said, I thought copies wouldn’t scan, or at least I was told that!

      • Don’t they realize that copies can also be in color? That’s a ridiculous assumption these days.

      • Tara Kinman

Happened to me at CVS, but they let me use my coupons. The employee said to leave them on the whole sheet, showing the coupons.com at the top and bottom, and they will take them. They way they know you printed them. HTH

    • Tara Kinman

Just want to put it out there. There is a wireless version of the printer. It is on sale as well with Office Max and Staples. I think $99.00 normally $199. They also have the printer at Best Buy, so you could purchase there too and get reward points to buy toner later, as well as the a good sale a wirelss printer. I actually just purchased one for myself and my biggest thing was it had to be wireless. I think it is the Brother HL-2280DW

      • Tara Kinman

The price at Best Buy is also $99.00

    • Cindy

I bought this printer (Jenny’s suggestion) and it is great! I never have problems with the coupons scanning at stores now (compared to my HP). When I was low on toner I took cartridge out and shook it a few times and it kept printing. When it finally needed toner, I went to ebay and purchased 2 refills ($10) and yes, it was messy to fill but WOW the savings!! Love this printer!!

    • lauren

I have owned this printer for a year, and only refilled the toner ONCE! I bought a kit online for $20, and it only took 15 minutes. I wish I would have spent a little more for the wireless version, so I can print from my phone or my roommates can print also. If you have only computer, or are savvy at setting up home networks, then wired is fine. This printer is GREAT!

    • Catty

I was reading a review at best buy on the wireless version and someone said it wouldn’t print coupons from coupon.com, has anyone else have this problem?

I have the wireless one.. it was a pain to hook up but i love it!! and you can buy ink cartries on simply ink for $5 a piece if you order 3 at a time or 5.49 if you order just one!! th only thing is it prints kinda dark so you use a little more ink but its much cheaper and i tend to waste more paper with it but I canfind more coupons because i can do it from the cough.. lol

    • Julie

I have the wireless version that also includes a scanner and I absolutely LOVE it! I purchase remanufactured toner cartridges for cheap and they work great. Will never waste my money on inkjet cartridges for printing coupons and everyday stuff again! We use our inkjet printer just for special projects and things that require color.

    • dwh22

Does anyone happen to know if the wireless version is compatible with the HP Touchpad some of us got when Jenny posted the deal a year or ago? Or any suggestions on a wireless printer that would be compatible with the HP Touchpad?

    • is there a way to know how long the sale on amazon.com will last? Payday with a bonus is next week :)

    • Deana

This is the best printer! You will not regret buying it!

    • S

We bought ours last August when Jenny posted a similar deal and it has been great for quality and cost! No problem scanning coupons at the store now, and it prints so fast. So far we’re still on the initial 700 page cartridge. The light is on, but it keeps printing! We’ll need to get a replacement eventually, and I was wondering what brand people have found that works correctly. The “compatible” market is huge, and anyone can say anything on their website trying to sell stuff… So if you all don’t mind sharing, what brand of compatible toner are you using that you know works and is good?? Thanks!!

    • CrystWD

I missed this deal :( Are there any other suggestions on printers or do you think that this printer will be back on sale some time within the next few months?
